I had a little extra time for dinner at Newark and so I thought this place would be pretty good. I wasn’t totally satisfied with the service or the food. With all of the options at the Newark airport I would suggest someplace else. I ordered a beer, which was finally brought to me and slapped out on my table without a glass. Just the can. When the food came, the steak was basically raw in the metal. I ordered it medium rare, but this was actually raw. The fries were not that great and really the service was nail. I ordered using the app in the QR code again, I would recommend looking around at the many, many other options that are available at the Newark airport and Concourse C.

Google
I’ve gone there a couple of times over the past year because it has decent seating and charging ports in the airport. The food is always so disappointing. The portions are awful and the food always over or undercooked. The service is lacking which is surprising considering it’s already self-seat and self-ordering. I had the hanger breakfast steak and they managed to overcook my eggs and undercook a medium rare steak. Obviously, the cook threw them on high heat and didn’t care. AirPort price gouging at its finest.

Google
Terrible food, I ordered the Croque Madame. Just a simple meal but it had a strong “fish” kind of smell and taste bitter which was just soooo groooosssss. Purely a waste of time and money

Kevin A.

Google
Horrible experience. Didn't even make it to the food; I ordered a simple omlette with tomatoes at 8:54 AM. Fast forward to 9:30, not a single staff member in sight. Other patrons also got up and started asking about where their food was. Had to cancel through PayPal and leave. Don't waste your time.

Yidian Liu

Google
My card was charged 4 times because their self-ordering system kept saying there was an error processing the payment. Only after the 4th time I called the waitress and she told me the payment went through the first time. So I ended up paying $200+ for a $50 meal. The manager helped me to issue the refund, but until this day, I still have not received my refund. It's been 3 weeks and I have not seen the refund on my statement. I am considering filing a lawsuit.

Google
Staff is super friendly, the food great. Good place for a bite while traveling. Thank you Britney!

Google
Do yourself a favour and avoid this sham of a restaurant.Travelling with my son recently we had time to kill between flights inside Newark Liberty Intl Airport, there are so many eating venues to choose from, now the riviera looks like a restaurant but is more of a film set you sit outside the said film set and you order extremely overpriced food from an iPad, my son wanted a burger so I joined him when they eventually came the chips ie fries were very cold not edible the burger was lukewarm, I went looking for a waiter and he was in the fake restaurant with another chap stacking boxes the inside was just full of boxes he agreed the fries were cold and said he would get us more, so in the meantime, we eat our burgers, he came back about ten minutes later with replacements and you guessed it they were exact replacements as they also were really cold where does this food come from? I say very very far away. So bad service cold food and overpriced I would be ashamed to own this venue.

Google
This place was terrible. I ordered a croque monsieur and it was like the most cheaply made deli sandwich. Honestly a deli would have been so much better. The bread was supposed to be sourdough and it was definitely cheap white bread. The ham and swiss were gross. Bechamel nonexistent. Just awful. What a waste of money. Do not go here!!
google avatar

Aaron R.

Yelp
Terrible do not eat here. This is like a big trap, you pay first on your phone and never see anyone, if the food sucks and the coke tastes like tea it doesn't matter, there's no one to address the problems. The French onion burger I got was a cheese burger with mustard. Avoid if possible.
google avatar

Esmeralda C.

Yelp
Service was kind of slow for a non-rush type of morning. The food for breakfast was bland like hospital food and not worth the price. Ambiance is not much since we sat out in an area designated by the eatery.
google avatar

Laur L.

Yelp
After reading some of the other reviews on here... have some common sense. Get real. You're in an airport. Food is likely gonna be overpriced and you're not gonna get amazing service or ambiance. That being said, I suggest you bring your own drink (fill up a water bottle) and just get an entrée or other food item. I loved their Croque Madame (heated, pressed ham & cheese sandwich with runny egg on top with salad and sliced avocado on the side).
google avatar

Brian W.

Yelp
For an airport restaurant you expect to pay a lot and not get much, and to that end, Riviera delivers. The ambiance is at least better than the interior of the food court (Global Bazaar C1 at EWR) that it's a part of, and due to the slightly higher prices they charge than the fast casual places inside Global Bazaar, Riviera generally has seats available. We waited 10 or 15 minutes for food, which wasn't awful, but was a bit disappointing. The steak frities was pretty sad looking and the fries were soggy, while the main seasoning on the lamb chops was best described as "cooked" rather than much of actual seasoning.

Geoff M.

Yelp
it's an airport so expectations were low but this was borderline inedible. My wife had a salad with steak that was so bad we sent the steak back. the server said that looks really bad - let me get you a piece of salmon. that was worse. about quarter inch thick and hard as shoe leather. croque madame was one of the worst things I've eaten. the salad it came with was ok.

Liane H.

Yelp
Absolutely awful service. Girl never came out to check on me after bringing food. All communications are done by an app. Ha! Good luck with that! I sent three messages just asking for water to be filled to no avail. I will never ever sit in a restaurant and order from an app AND pay a tip. Nope not with this awful service.

Yelp
I was lured in by the videos of eggs benedict and lox, but sadly, this restaurant serves none of those. Their repeating video should just be interpreted as, "imagine what breakfast could be at an actually nice restaurant." I got the croque madame. It came out without the egg on it. I noticed the error, told my server, and she said that the egg comes with the croque monsieur. I said no, it's the madame... She had to go back and actually check in the kitchen, and yes, it should come with an egg. A couple minutes later out comes a pretty questionably cooked egg. I definitely like a runny yolk, but this egg had substantial clear egg whites still across the top. Anyway, it was a breakfast

Sandra L.

Yelp
Our female server was simply not in the restaurant field (perhaps baggage handling?), and love an app that suggests a 25% tip before you even see a human. A family of four left because they had to catch their plane and never got their food (which they had paid for). I asked for a to go box three times, as my flight started boarding 15 minutes later I went to the "kitchen," where the server actually picked up a (stained) container, dumped fries out of it, then unceremoniously handed it to me. Riviera is the worse service I have ever experienced (the diners were all aghast) and I am 62 years old!

Richard J.

Yelp
HORRIBLE, eat somewhere else there are better choices. Was not greeted entering the place had to solely interact with the app which was painfully slow. Eggs overcooked and served cold, potatoes served cold, coffee and tea were hot but refills were not offered. Food runner argued with me about my order. Won't be back!

Alyssa C.

Yelp
Obviously greed driven company interested in making money, and knows that you have no choice if you want to eat in this terminal as it is a monopoly (they own every restaurant here in terminal) You must order on their app, difficult to modify if you want something changed, takes a long time and must pay/ tip prior to knowing how your service is. One kitchen serves multiple restaurants and is far away so food takes a long time. Eat before you come to the airport.

Marc S.

Yelp
No service Airplane food They can't even serve the right beer and argue . -1 star at best
google avatar

Adam G.

Yelp
Terrible service. Order on iPads and wait 40 minutes for crap food. Drinks never came. Servers are unable to help at all.

Yelp
Dropped by the Riv for a quick breakfast and decided to sit in the gate area across from the restaurant. As with most of EWR, you order from an iPad and pay at your seat. I ordered the croque monsieur and a coffee. It was pricey but omg was it worth it! It reminded me of our travels in France! The croque comes with a mixed greens salad and a sweet Dijon vinaigrette. Make no mistake, the sandwich was HUGE in my opinion! I couldn't finish everything it was so generously portioned. I'll definitely hit up the Riv again in the future!
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Dreadful. Extremely expensive food of mediocre quality delivered slowly. Don't plan to eat here if your flight boards within an hour. The salmon was pretty bad, especially at $31. It didn't taste or look fresh and seemed indifferently prepared. Worst $140 dinner I have ever had. I ordered bread pudding for dessert. Almost an hour later the sever told me they were out. But, the iPad ordering system had already closed my tab and charged my credit card. I guess I will have to complain to AMEX to have the charge reversed. One out of the three servers was nice and apologetic about how slow the kitchen was in putting out food. The others were: c'est la vie. I do not recommend Riviera.
google avatar

Bill T.

Yelp
They didn't have the menu item I ordered and since they require prepayment through their app, they would only offer a substitute priced LOWER than the menu item I ordered. That said, the wings were good.

Hailey W.

Yelp
Do not eat here! Terrible service and food is even worse. It took forever to get the food we ordered and only one salad came out and the rest of the food took another twenty minutes. My salad was drenched in dressing but they put it only at the top of the salad instead of tossing it. Server was rude, disappeared and demanded to see what we ordered before he brought out rest of the food. The server also got into an argument with a lady seated behind us and was rude to the man next to us because he again took forever to get him his glass of wine. The kitchen is nowhere to be seen. Strange overall experience
google avatar

David J.

Yelp
Worst app experience ever. Every time I am in EWR I cannot believe they force you to use such horrific App. The ads block you from ordering .. takes 15 minutes to get anything ordered. Food is meh if you are lucky enough to order.
google avatar

Amar M.

Yelp
Food didn't come for a long time. When it came it was cold and obviously had been sitting there for a while. No ability to get a refund or speak to someone in charge.
google avatar

Beverly V.

Yelp
Ordered burger and fries and a Margherita pizza Fries ice cold and he brought a cheese pizza Waiter argued that it was a Margherita pizza.... Nooo, we even showed him the picture in the menu There are many options at Newark airport... do not eat here

Hussain A.

Yelp
I have bad food and have had terrible food; this is leaning towards the latter. Bread was hard, food was cold, utensils were plastic... Pretty disappointing considering the prices they charge
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
First time I've never been able to finish a steak. All their food was awful. Paid $98 for everything and nearly threw up. After about 10 minutes of trying to force it down because of how hungry me and my gf were we just gave up and went to get pizza around the corner.
google avatar

Sigdia S.

Yelp
Really good I was really happy, very tasteful good portions, not to much on the menu but everything looks extra good I got a ham and egg sandwich on a croissant with some French toast n it was delicious! $6 sprite for the size was a bit much but other then that pretty cool spot

Ramon I.

Yelp
Ordered the pasta and half of it was cold, the other half was blazing hot which means they probably just nuked it... the lamb had zero flavor and was drenched in oil... the prices are outrageous ($30-$40 per entree)... feeling like we got food poisoning kicking in as I'm writing this review (we just finished a few minutes ago)... stay far away from this place

Lawrence S.

Yelp
We ordered two 25oz drafts. Almost 20 minutes later, still thirsty, I found someone who looked to be in charge and he finally brought two bottled beers, 12oz. Said he would bring us two more when we were ready. Said it wasn't his fault as he just got there. When I asked about paying for 25 oz and only getting 24, his response was "Hey, I'm trying to help you out. You give me a hard time and you get nothing." Welcome to Newark Airport and their famous attitude.

John C.

Yelp
Yeah, don't go. Still waiting 30 mins for my order. Overpriced and can't speak to quality as food has not arrived. Waste of time.

Teresa G.

Yelp
Hmmm. The tables and the floor under them were so dirty. How hard is it to spray some 409 on them and wipe off with a paper towel. Seriously the bathrooms looked cleaner. I ordered a French onion burger but there were no onions on it. The French fries were lukewarm (and later cold) and soggy. My husband ordered the 9 oz wine. They were out of wine glasses and he got it in a plastic cup- for a $20 "glass" of wine!. I drink wine a lot and I swear it was 7 oz and not 9. I ordered my burger medium but it was done medium well. I did not get a glass of water unless I asked. In defense, the waitress was working hard and tried hard. The place was understaffed with only one server.
google avatar

Jean Paul M.

Yelp
Many of airport restaurants can be a bit overpriced, but this one was truly disappointing. For the price you pay you do not get any ambience (sitting is in the open area of the terminal), no service (you order through an iPad and just get it delivered) and to top it off food that is subpar compared to a regular sit-down restaurant. Given the area this restaurant is in, I would recommend you look at some of the quick serve options around it instead.
google avatar

Azita A.

Yelp
So far, it's the slowest place i have been in. There only 2 other table and the food menu includes salad & sandwich. How long does it take to put some greens on a plate The order is taken on the iPad and an 18% of suggested gratitude!!!! On what? I would have just had a muffin& coffee, but wanted to have dinner here with my daughter; what a waste of time and money:( There are at least 3 people working here just walking around.... Basically, I could count greens' leaves and there are 3 grapes tomatoes cut in half, see the photos i shared. I mean, even for the airport eatery, it has the lowest standards. 40 minutes here, I just got the green salad; waiting for sandwich, perhaps another 40 minutes... My guess is that they don't really care about my review, but I just had to write this review as i'm waiting for the food. The sandwich(stake) is pretty good, but not worth waiting 45 minutes and $16.00.
google avatar

Joe L.

Yelp
With only 30 minutes until our flight boarded, it was probably a bad idea to order breakfast. Fortunately for us, our waitress kindly allowed us to switch to takeout and our food and coffee was brought out quite quickly. The egg and avocado sandwich was quite good, albeit expensive. Unfortunately I ate it too quickly to take a picture! Also, the bistro chairs are cute!
google avatar

Stephanie G.

Yelp
Waiter was nice. Food tasted good but was served cold. Coffees were also served cold and toast (they forgot mine and never brought it when I asked for it) was not served with butter. Paid $75 for two adults to have a cold breakfast of 2 eggs, breakfast meat, toast and potatoes and a cappuccino w/ shot of Bailey's and a coffee with a shot of Jameson. If you are in a rush, do not go here as service is very slow.
google avatar

Gaby C.

Yelp
Extremely slow, the order went throw a computer and they still mess up. You have to pay and the gratuity is included, even if the service is sucks. I do not recommend it at all
google avatar

Chris W.

Yelp
I almost always give a place the benefit of the doubt, and only give a negative review if I really feel a place is subpar. The service was ok here, but the food was honestly awful and inedible in my opinion and overpriced (which can be expected at an airport but food in other airports is often very good). We got lamb pitas which were cold + nothing like the menu description (like a strange mayonnaise "lamb salad"). The fries were ice cold and the waitstaff's response was just "sorry" with no offer to correct the issue. Disappointed in our pass thru the Newark airport.
google avatar

Vinny F.

Yelp
An Interesting place that is way over priced but what isn't at the airport! Ordered a feel items including a very good tomato bisque a nice Ceasar Salad and a dish in an iron pot that was not good at all! The saving grace was their people .. Bernardet our waitress was marvelous and when we complained about one of the items on the menus we ordered she immediately agreed with us, told us that if we were not happy with the item that of course we shouldn't pay and got the manager Michael who credited our bill accordingly. It's the people who make the place and she is the Star alkng with Michael! Well done !
google avatar

Laura O.

Yelp
They don't look at you, ordering via iPAd is dehumanizing and led to me paying for someone else's bill. You prepay so the staff don't work for their tip.
google avatar

Dave B.

Yelp
Not much to say other than 10 minutes after placing our order they came out and said "Chef just informed me we are all out of waffles." Airport is light traffic at best, how could you run out of waffle mix at a place that serves breakfast? We canceled our order.... still waiting on receipt showing credit back.... Update, another 10 mins and they came out to ask if I still wanted the coffee... No just the refund so we can spend the last few minutes before our flight to grab something else where to take on the flight and ear there. Save time and money and go to the food court!
google avatar

KL M.

Yelp
Where to start? Perhaps at the beginning. The iPad for ordering sucks monumentally! It's covered in worthless stupid games when all you want is to order in a hurry. The user interface DOESN'T work! I just want to order food. No, I don't want you to take a picture of my face or scan my boarding pass. I just want to order food! It's hard to find a bad Pinot noir from Oregon, but these chuckleheads managed. Barely drinkable. I'd already abandoned two of this company's restaurants in the horrific Newark airport because their idea of gluten-free offerings was broccolini or olives. Salad Nicoise seemed like a good idea. Wrong again! Limp lettuce, dressing that was little more than oil, flavorless tuna, gigante beans that tasted like they'd been soaked in a preservative that was outlawed in the 70s, mealy dry potatoes. Stay away from all this company's restaurants. Better yet, avoid the Newark airport altogether!
google avatar

Dennis G.

Yelp
Make sure you check on the backlog before you order. One kitchen supports three restaurant's. Tonight I waited over 30 minutes for my food.

Martin L.

Yelp
Terrible. Order on an ipad took 15 mins to get the cc processed. Wrong drink arrives. Food eventually arrives cold. Still waiting for my drink...meal finished. Automatic gratuity added and too late to change. Even for an airport totally hopeless.
google avatar

Bryce Q.

Yelp
Food was poor to mediocre at best. Croque Madame was bad. Bread was dense and seemed a bit stale. Almost no beschamel on top. Egg not great. Ham and cheese croquettes were pretty bad. "Pommes Frites" were $9 and were regular bagged frozen fries and as far from pommes frites as you could get. None of the food was hot - just a bit warm.
google avatar

Madelyn A.

Yelp
I walked in at 11am and it was pretty empty. I found a booth off to the side and proceeded to order my lunch from iPad. I went with the cod fish sandwich with fries. It came out pretty quickly and I wished I had to them to hold onions. The fish was really good and fries were hot. My waitress was really nice. They need to update their iPads payment system. I had to get her to help swipe because machine wasn't working. The whole purpose of self ordering and paying is to give customer total control which I love.
google avatar

Theresa C.

Yelp
My husband and I each ordered a Bloody Mary and shared a Croque Madame. The good: the service was not bad and the food came out quickly. If offers comfortable seating and our gate was right next door. The bad: The bill was around $54.00. Setting aside the cost, which is fairly expensive even for an airport, the drinks were mediocre at best. The bread for the Croque Madame was very dry and cold in some areas. The cheese on top was melted, but the egg white was still a bit runny. The iPad ordering bit is gimmicky and became frustrating when you tried to special order. One Yelp reviewer commented that the use of iPads without a sanitizing hand wipe on the table was unsanitary given the number of men who use the bathroom at airports and don't wash their hands. I had not thought about this until after reading the review...thankfully I never used my hands to pick up any of the food for our meal.
google avatar

Kathe K.

Yelp
Expensive and slow service. Trouble is ALL RESTAURANTS at this airport are owned by the same company so you have NO choices. Monopoly at its worst. Bring food from home.
google avatar

Lina Z.

Yelp
Wanted to treat myself to a nice-ish airport meal. I had the "cavatappi Pasta" @ $21 - it was just not worth it! It was supposed to be a "yellow tomato sauce" instead the pasta was literally swimming in OIL. - Looking forward to my airplane meal
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
Order from an iPad, slow also unsanitary. Customer across from me kept coughing on iPad, which you will use to order. I personally see about 1/4 men not wash their hands in restroom airports. How disgusting to think of the germs. If they won't provide real servers, put hand sanitizer at the tables! They build an 18% tip for food runners who don't know who orders what and take 25 minutes for a salad. If you don't keep touching the screen, the check will close out with the tip- well before you get your food. Food- ordered ham croquet and chicory salad. Salad came with a cold soft poached egg with runny yolk and no asparagus. Bits of bacon were actually okay. Ham was very breaded like a popper would be. Ordered a ginger ale which took at least 10 minutes and arrived in a narrow glass and watery. I almost lasted to cancel the salad which didn't arrive for 25 minutes and then I was finally asked if I wanted a refill. My check was $30, and a poor value Avoid this place.
google avatar

Rachel Q.

Yelp
Food was terrible, service was a combo of desperate and despondent, ordering was made somehow less efficient by adding a tablet and photos, food came out at random times, and I got an unsweetened iced tea that tasted like chemicals. The waiter was nice tho.
google avatar

Anna O.

Yelp
The only sit-down option we found in the international departures area of gates C90-99 of Newark airport. Convenient order through iPads at each table means that the order goes straight to the kitchen - shorter wait. If you can not see your gate from the seat, a flight tracker on the same iPad will keep you updated. The choices are varied, including vegetarian (Lentil Tangine looked quite tempting), but pricey - sandwiches $13-16, entrees $16-30, cocktails $12-17, a couple of kids' options around $13. Well, it is airport, just happy to find healthier choices and a quiet-ish sit-down. Table side Ginger Rogers cocktail was surprisingly well balanced and strong. Roasted half chicken came on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes and wilted spinach. Fruit sorbet really surprised with a light authentic flavor of just-shaved-watermelon. The long trans-Atlantic flight with kids looks much easier after the delicious Ginger Rogers...
google avatar

Cion S.

Yelp
For airport food it's great, won't find much as good anywhere else. However for the price.... RIDICULOUS! I need to see a cleaner plate, greener greens, quicker times. The only thing that made it enjoyable was my Lamb was cooked correct and bartender was awesome.
google avatar

Vidushi B.

Yelp
Newark must have spent a lot of money trying to revamp and "innovate". It's a shame that most of that investment has gone to waste. Like many other airports, Newark is trying to replace labor with iPads. So you sit down and you order on the iPad at your table, and then pay with a turnstile attached. Sounds great, right? Too bad the credit card machines and the apps don't really work. It look forever to order my one glass of wine (which of course ended up being $12) and I was annoyed as hell. We sat at the bar which hadn't even been cleared even when there was clearly labor to do it. I'm not a fan at all and they should really get their shit together.

Yelp
Had the penne pasta. Comfy seating. Everything on note and splendid service from Alex! He took great care of us! (Thank you!)
