21 Places to Drink and Dine Around Joshua Tree National Park

"While admittedly not much of a restaurant per se, this centrally located Joshua Tree stop is ideal for groups wanting quality food on the cheap. It’s perfect for backpackers and day trippers heading into the park, and don’t sleep on the wide array of awesome drinks." - Krista Diamond, Farley Elliott

Google
Delicious grab and go options and also made to order options. We did the grab and go thing so that we could get on the trail quick. The line was not long and it moved quick. This place is conveniently located right next to the Joshua Cherry visitor center so you can do all the things in one stop get directions use the bathroom and get the supplies you need for your hike. I do wish they had better water options. They only had mineral or spring water in liter glass bottles..

Google
Super convenient location. Bought my parks pass at the visitor center then headed directly next door to Roadrunner to pick up lunch to pack in to the park. Very impressed by vegetarian options (multiple sandwiches available). Happy that everything was super quick to grab and go - already wrapped up, no waiting, easy to read signage and prices. Sandwich tasted great and the bread held up even to the moisture of the dressing on the sandwich, and sitting in the car for hours.

Google
Nice little grab and go spot. I think calling it a 'deli' would be a bit far. Yes, there are sandwiches and hot burritos, but they're pre-made. It's more of an airport take-out style situation, but that said, the selection is great and designed to fuel hikers. So, you'll find nuts and cheese other hiking foods. And good for vegetarians. Good selection of ice cream, too!

Ellie Patrikios

Google
They are so sweet in there and make yummy home cooked meals with seasonal menu offerings. Gluten free and vegan options available! A great place to come before heading to JT National Park or a road trip anywhere!

Google
It got my attention when I was coming back from Joshua Tree Park so I decided to stop and see what’s inside. It’s a cute cafe with prepped meals, cold brew, snacks, drinks, ice cream, fruit. I ended up trying nitro coffee with oat milk, and I bought the savory Bear Bar. When I see organic and vegan, I can’t help it 🤷🏼‍♀️

Google
We found this place by accident after looking in the Joshua Tree NP Visitor Center. We wanted sandwiches to take into the park and we were not disappointed. Not being mayo fans they made us 2 beef sandwiches without mayo. They were absolutely delicious. You will not find a better sandwich to go anywhere. The service was friendly and atmosphere lovely. Thank you for the sandwiches…we enjoyed them very much!

Google
Don't expect much from a grab and go store. Food are all fresh. Is it the best sandwich? No. Does it fill you up? Yes. You can also grab other snacks. The food is a little pricey. The meat to bread is good.

Google
Grabbed sandwiches for our hike, which was great and convenient. They used good quality ingredients! We also got a drink to go, but i do not recommend the matcha if you actually like matcha. I'm not sure what it actually was, but it wasn't matcha.

Yelp
Why is this spot so cute? You can tell that they make everything with love! I appreciated that one of the ladies was so kind enough to show me the selection of food they had. I ended up buying the Italian sandwich, the dill pickle potatoes and the fruit salad. The sandwich was as packed with flavor, the potato salad was perfectly balanced and the fruit bowl was refreshing! I would come here again and try another sandwich!

Yelp
The best spot for a quick grab and go meal before heading into Joshua Tree! Keep in mind there is no food, water, or wifi inside the park. Stopped by Roadrunner in the morning before starting our day our day. They have a variety of hot breakfast items like breakfast burritos and cold sandwiches you can pack in for lunch later in the park. There's also chia pudding and things of that sort. I wanted the turkey sandwich but didn't see any; a minute later a staff came by to refill the station and told me if there's anything you don't see, just ask and they can make more! I really appreciated that. There's also hot drinks/coffee. No lattes but I had black coffee and it's good for a quick fix. They open everyday 7:30am-5:00pm. Located right by the visitor center on the west entrance.

Yelp
A great place to pick up food for a picnic at Joshua Tree National Park. They have a nice selection of wraps, sandwiches, salads, desserts, and more. Everything was fresh and tasty and the location right outside the visitors center was perfect.

Yelp
For many years, this has been my go-to place for grabbing a sandwich while going into Joshua Tree National Park or grabbing food on my way to visit friends or anything else that requires a decent sandwich on the go. The sandwiches are good, and I'm told the drinks are good as well. They also have vegan options as well. Their packaged food tastes better than a lot of places, and are certainly infinitely better than gas station sandwiches.

Yelp
One of my family members is a vegan and finding vegan friendly food in Joshua Tree is aa little challenging. When we got to Roadrunner, they had sold out on the vegan breakfast burritos, but the staff was kind enough to make two more. I tried their bacon/egg/potato burrito;while the eggs were scrambled fresh and very fluffy, the burrito was bland and had barely and bacon. We were provided salsa to accompany the burritos and the salsa was properly garlicky. The vegan burrito was also unseasoned, the potatoes and tofu lacked flavor. The burritos were decently sized, but nothing else was noteworthy. If you're not used to California/tourist town prices, you'll find the food here on the pricier side. I should have tried the breakfast sandwiches, as it appears many others enjoyed them thoroughly. Maybe there will be a next time.

Yelp
So happy I found this cafe! We were on our way to one of the hikes but not sure where to go so there's the visit center next to the cafe so we asked the lady working there to give us some ideas and she pointed out a couple on the map so that def helped! The cafe has warm breakfast food, snacks and coffee. They have a great variety of coffee. I got the salty caramel mocha and that was so good! I also got a breakfast sandwich and my bf got a breakfast burrito. Even though they were nice and warm, the breakfast burrito was too smashed and not enough texture. I got the s'mores brownie too which was okay. The service was helpful. We parked on the street.

Yelp
This is the place to go for vegan food in Joshua Tree. They had a really good breakfast burrito with potatoes, scrambled tofu, and super garlic salsa to fight off desert vampires. A lot of things at the shop I wish I could go back and try too, including a variety of plant based ice creams, local Joshua Tree dates, and a Greek sandwich wrap. Staff were really nice and dealt with crowds quickly!

Yelp
The perfect quick stop for a caffeine break! My boyfriend and I stopped by before visiting the park, and I got the most yummy iced dirty chai. I would recommend for anyone who loves a strong herbal flavor in their tea! It was also great to see turkey sausage options for anyone who doesn't eat pork. The cashier was polite, and very welcoming. I also loved seeing that they supported local community with selling community beef jerky. Honestly, the perfect stop --- quick, clean, and yummy!
google avatar

Krista D.

Yelp
They use powdered eggs in their breakfast sandwiches. . For the price and vibe of the place - very deceiving
google avatar

Lauren C.

Yelp
Their packaged food is better than most restaurants we've eaten out at in Joshua Tree. Plenty of gluten free options and everything is labeled clearly. I loved the GF butternut squash salad and deviled eggs. Great place to load up before entering the park for the day!
google avatar

Vivian T.

Yelp
I appreciate the convenience of the grab and go concept as it's perfect for taking the food on a long trip or to the park. I also appreciate the organization of the store! Came for some breakfast items and they were a bit limited in terms of breakfast selections, but you can basically grab anything. I opted for an egg sandwich which looked so plain when I ordered it, however, it was surprisingly flavorful. My boyfriend grabbed an italian sandwich and he ate it up. Glad to have stopped by Roadrunner Grab+Go before heading back home.

Yelp
Thankful for its convenience and hours. But quality and service has gone a lot less excellent over the past two years. Things aren't as tasty (my fave tuna salad and the measly microwaved bacon strip while increasingly priced higher). Also, for a grab and go, I've become increasingly skeptical of the tip demand. I try to come here once a month the last six, hoping things I like about it come back, and nope.
google avatar

Randal M.

Yelp
You'll probably want to stop elsewhere for coffee. It's not great, and the matcha tastes a little off too. They run a fast operation though and the sandwiches smelled really good. I can't complain too much given the location walking distance to the visitor center of a national park!
google avatar

Jina P.

Yelp
The breakfast sandwich with bacon was really good ! Fluffy eggs. And we got some salads , egg sandwich , and potato salad to go !
google avatar

Lydia P.

Yelp
Flavorful, healthy choices are so welcome when just arriving after a long drive to get to the Joshua Tree National Park. Conveniently located adjacent to the park's Visitors Center. The Italian and Turkey sub sandwiches that were made fresh for us were excellent - tasty with quality ingredients. It's gourmet grab-n-go at a fair price. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Liana H.

Yelp
A great stop for quick food that still tastes good. They have a pesto pasta salad that is amazing and the breakfast burritos are great too. Lots of good options here.
google avatar

Alyssa A.

Yelp
Roadrunner is located right next to the Joshua Tree Visitor Center, so it's perfectly located to pick up your drinks and food before entering the park. I gave it a 3 star because of its perfect location and convenience. However, both of the drinks we ordered did not have a good taste and would make me not want to return here again. However, as I said, it's great for convenience to grab last minute snacks before entering the park, and, while we didn't get food, the grab-and-go food options looked decent.

Jessika V.

Yelp
Great location, very friendl and I love that I can be in and out so quickly. It's refreshing to have good quality food in the desert and not wait an hour for it. Definitely recommend trying the vegan salted chocolate chip cookies.
google avatar

Asher G.

Yelp
I often stop in for pre made sandwiches or salads. I like the roast beef with horseradish sandwich. Very quick, easy, fresh, and reasonably priced. Nice people who work there. Not a dine in place but that's ok.

Evan T.

Yelp
The team at Roadrunner are fantastic!! The food is delicious and fresh and when I was in a bind today at 730 am and ordered 35 box lunches to be ready in 90 minutes and they did it!! So grateful!!
google avatar

Kelsey C.

Yelp
Don't be put off by the tourist center location - the prices might scream tourist trap, but the ingredients are quality and can't have been cheap to ship out this far. They have some nice sandwiches - the Roast Beef with chimichurri is a cool combination, and the super-thick with fresh mozzarella is pretty great. They also sell gourmet charcuterie ingredients, perfect for picknicking, best when washed down by artisan kombucha. My favorite thing was actually the Mezze Platter, a mix of hummus, pickled things, feta, and veg. I usually hate plastic-box platters, but this one had a lot of really delicious items that went well together. Kiddo loved their sugar-cookie cake, and I must say, so did I. They do make some tempting-looking sweet stuff, that's for sure. Great place to shop for supplies right before you hit the park.

Yelp
Great service and great food. From the moment we entered an employee let us know they could make whatever wasn't in the cooler. That meant to me everything was fresh. And it was and delicious! We ate here more than any place else on our month visit.
google avatar

Michael K.

Yelp
Grave disappointment today. For all the years we've been going there, they have sweetly accommodated our requests for making sandwiches slightly different from those premade. Today, we called in for a simple roast beef sandwich order and the clerk said "oh, we don't do that," suggesting we were stuck with the pre-mades on their shelf. "We don't"? "We always did before." We turned around and went to Von's, which will make what we want, and with pleasant attitude. Very disappointing. Very.
google avatar

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Simply the BEST! The sandwiches and cookies are to die for! The owner Rosa is the sweetest person you would ever like to meet and she makes the most delicious food with love. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
This is a review for coffee only. We were staying in the area and after lookin through several coffee shops in the area, this place had me at Mexican Mocha! They only offer it in a 16oz, it ended up being perfect for me and the price was under $7. Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Yelp
Roadrunner Grab+Go is conveniently located right next to the Visitor Center. We stopped in here various times during our stay in Joshua Tree. The first time we came in to pick up some coffee beans since we didn't have any at the house we were staying at and some snacks (chips, brownie, potato salad, pasta salad). The coffee they carry here is from the local coffee company, Joshua Tree Coffee Co. and it's amazing. We came again for breakfast before we headed to JTNP. They had hot breakfast sandwiches on brioche. I got the one with sausage and eggs. I think what did it for us was their potato salad; it's SOOO good and made there. We brought potato salad and more pasta salad with us for snacks (we had a cooler) while we adventured in the Park. We even saved the label with the listed ingredients so we could try to make it at home.
google avatar

Nisia M.

Yelp
Would never think you can find amazing sandwiches right outside of Joshua Tree but I'm happy I was proven wrong. Roadrunner Grab+Go offerers a selection of quick lunch options like sandwiches, soups, and salads. All perfect for throwing in your cooler before a hike. I stopped in her steed at after visiting the park and heading back to Vegas. There wasn't much left on the shelf but one of the workers let us know that if there was a sandwich we wanted but didn't see, she'd make it for us. Great, because we saw the label for their sandwich of the month that included turkey, havarti cheese, a mustard, and cranberry jam on a brioche bun! That sandwich was so good but at $12 a sandwich, it'd better be good. I would love another turkey sandwich with cranberry jam. We also tried the potato salad which was good.

Yelp
Highly recommend! We've lived up here for almost a year and have passed up going to this place, because we thought it was just like a little convenience store. The sign outside says sandwiches, drinks and snacks, so we were thinking prepackaged store-bought items like Doritos and junk. We could not have been more wrong! We came in because we heard they sell Artisanal bread on the weekends, but what we found was a kitchen where they were freshly preparing whole foods, snacks like kale salad, deviled eggs, carrot slaw, fresh sandwiches. I picked up a hot bowl of scrambled eggs with veggies and my husband has a breakfast burrito. Both were terrific and the homemade salsa was the perfect touch. Took home two bags full of other stuff. We can't wait to try, including the bread. They sell Joshua Tree coffee, which is excellent. I think they need to put some words on their outdoor sign, like fresh, homemade, organic. Also, the staff was super friendly, and that matters!

Yelp
*** 4.5 stars *** Probably the best (and maybe only?!?) spot in Joshua Tree in terms of healthy food made with high quality ingredients. In the land of comfort food, it was refreshing to find this shop with great sandwiches and sides. They have both hot and cold foods to grab and go. I had a peppered turkey sandwich with a side of the thai peanut noodles and both were delicious. If you need a picnic to take with you to the park (or just a delicious breakfast or lunch), this is the place. Great and friendly service too! Tip: It is adjacent to the Park visitor center.
google avatar

Marcus G.

Yelp
The service was pretty bad. Felt like they were bothered to have customers. Yelled/screamed at each person who tried to use AMEX. The coffees were OK, but for someone who usually gets 1/2 sweetened, their regular amount of vanilla wasn't cutting it and they wanted to charge more since they "already put TWO PUMPS!!!" (They screamed that too)
google avatar

Wendy M.

Yelp
This shop is perfectly located next to the visitor's center in Joshua Tree. It is a small shop filled with everything you may need for your day of hiking in Joshua tree. I have to say, I didn't expect much from this place, especially since it's right next to the visitors center. But WOW, they have some of the best coffee I've had in a while! I usually get my coffee black and this cold brew was brewed to perfection. The flavor was so good and my girlfriend and I came back the next day to order the same thing. They also have great sandwiches, but I didn't get a chance to get a picture. The staff is very friendly and you can tell that they really like working with each other. It's a very accepting space and it felt very welcoming. Must try, especially if you are a coffee lover!
google avatar

Bridget W.

Yelp
Well this was a surprising find. A grab-and-go shop with clearly marked vegan options just outside Joshua Tree NP? Count me in. The spot is tiny and on a weekend they were super busy, so I ended up just browsing quickly before leaving when social distancing couldn't be maintained. I did notice all of the locally made products they featured, which I always appreciate. The building is directly next to the Joshua Tree NP Visitor Center, so as expected the prices were slightly above average. But if you're plant-based and willing to pay for convenience, they've got you covered.
google avatar

Hannah F.

Yelp
Small little store to stop in and get unique items from Joshua Tree. The sandwiches are really good. The staff is amazing! I highly reccomend.

Darla M.

Yelp
Great food, excellent service. Love this place. Really good food and always consistent. Love local business
google avatar

Audra R.

Yelp
Genius concept for this area! Incredibly well executed! Hot selections and sooooo many cold selections. Loves: Breakfast sandwiches, Chia pudding, potato salad, roast beef chimichurri sandie, Needs work: Thai noodle salad, how annoying the traffic flow is- the customers themselves were kinda rude, awkwardly in the way, it was strange. Overall incredibly fresh, healthy and with high end flavors offered. Little pricey but you get what you pay for. Will definitely be repeat customers this area badly needed this business!
google avatar

Shane Z.

Yelp
Great little shop with lots of great choices to pick up before you head into Joshua Tree National Park. I was expecting "gas station" type food but was way off, delicious sandwiches, nice beverage selection and great/fast service.
google avatar

Dara B.

Yelp
Perfect for grabbing some quick bites to bring into the park with you if you didn't have a chance to make anything. The food is healthy, premade, and conveniently located right next door to the JT visitor center.

Aldo O D.

Yelp
Thank you Rosa, super nice to my daughter and I. Grabbed Lunch to take into the park and had a nice little picnic. Really enjoyed my Italian sub and my daughter enjoyed her ham & cheese we will be back next time we are in town. Until next time.
google avatar

Darlene B.

Yelp
Great place to grab a sandwich for a picnic in the park. We both enjoyed the Italian but all the sandwiches looked phenomenal.
google avatar

Colton P.

Yelp
Beautiful spot right next to the Joshua tree visitor center; only a couple steps away. They have delicious food and drinks of all kinds. Recommend stocking up here before you head into the park as this will be your last chance for a grab and go spot
google avatar

Yasmeen E.

Yelp
Really expensive sandwiches, but they're not bad. I got the dirty iced chai and it was so unbearable to drink :/ it tasted very strong; like Arabic or Turkish coffee. I wasn't able to finish it unfortunately. This is a convenient place before entering the national park but I would suggest packing your own food before heading out there.
google avatar

A'Lissa O.

Yelp
Needed a little something to tide us over and this was the perfect healthy snack to literally grab and go. Prime convenient location right next to the visitors center. The kale salad was tasty with a great dressing. The egg salad sandwich has a nice flavor with a crunch of onion, but the bread was a little dried out. And the vegan chocolate chip cookies with salt on top were the perfect finishing touch. I recommend and will return again.
google avatar

Elizabeth G.

Yelp
Good healthy selection. So much more satisfying than grabbing junk food at 7-11. Service is quick and polite.

Steven K.

Yelp
The hot breakfast sandwiches are decent. The sausage egg sandwich has a decent amount of sausage that provides just enough bite and substance to a soft bun. The bacon egg and cheese sandwich doesn't have enough bacon so the sandwich feels mushy.
google avatar

April S.

Yelp
It is right next to the Joshua Tree National Park visitor center. It is convenient to get food and coffee right before hiking.
google avatar

victoria p.

Yelp
We love this little cafe with an amazing selection of grab and go items, ranging from fried chicken and mac and cheese to vegan broccoli salad (my favorite) to a large variety of sandwiches. This is our go to for lunch on days we need something quick or for picking up before heading into the park for a picnic and hike. My only wish is that they were open a little later than 5 so we could grab something after work. Everyone who works here is so so nice, and they are always kind to our kid which is always a plus.
google avatar

Alison S.

Yelp
I got a terrible case of food poisoning from the overnight oats please make sure you check dates and ask if they're replaced daily which they should be doing. It ruined my trip entirely I was so sick after that vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramps just terrible.
google avatar

Stephanie B.

Yelp
Great place to grab something quick before or after visiting the park. So many good options, including vegan options! Staff is helpful and store is clean.
google avatar

Brendan Y.

Yelp
Very cute, chic and cute place next to a visitors center. The place has plenty of local products, canned drinks, cheeses, ice cream and fresh made coffee. Simple menu without anything too fancy. I had a caramel cold brew, it was quality, smooth and didn't taste old like cold brew often can. I'd recommend light half and half as the drink is already pretty sweet. It wasn't too expensive, very quick even though it was somewhat busy and the young lady was very nice. Also appreciate being at a restaurant and seeing pride flags, makes me want to tip!
