Roaming Rooster, a D.C. Favorite for Fried Chicken, Will Move Into Maryland This Fall | Eater DC

"I've followed this food truck–turned–local chain as it keeps expanding across the DMV; it's bringing its beloved buttermilk fried chicken sandwiches to its first Maryland restaurant this fall inside the Pike & Rose complex in North Bethesda. The 1,843-square-foot outpost — Roaming Rooster’s sixth in the region — will serve its Nashville hot, Buffalo, and honey butter chicken sandwiches, along with wings, tenders, salads, sides, and an all-week breakfast menu featuring biscuit sandwiches. Their birds are free-range, grain-fed, antibiotic-free and halal, and the fast-growing business from Michael Habtemariam, Biniam Habtemariam, and Hareg Mesfin has already debuted an AU Street NW location, opened in Tenleytown this winter, and is headed to the Western Market food hall in Foggy Bottom and to Skyland Town Center in Southeast." - Tierney Plumb

This is by far the best chicken sandwich I’ve ever had. And it’s consistently the best. Even the worst one I had there is better than other places I’ve been. And I’ve traveled the country trying chicken sandwiches. Their Buffalo Chicken sandwich is what I would consider the best version of a buffalo chicken sandwich. Well sauced, perfectly cooked and crispy. I appreciate that their heat scale is accurate, so if you’re adventurous and like spice but not to a point where you will regret it later their extra hot is the perfect balance of flavor and noticeable heat. And their fries…I’m a huge fan of double fried fries and they do them well and you get so many! Everything is al a carte but I wouldn’t skip the fries as an add on. People have always been super friendly and place is always clean. I have been going to Roaming Rooster for a couple years now. I’m not from the area but fly in every couple months and while I’m here, I am sure to stop there once a visit. Okay, twice…maybe 3 times. It’s just that cluckin good.

My choices were Nashville and honey butter sandwiches with fries and coleslaw. Juicy and extremely hot chicken can abrade your palate. Always tasty and tender. Coleslaw was a bit rough and less saucy but tasted better than mayonnaise bombarded ones. Try mild or medium spicy if you are not a spicy food person.

Staff at the Woodmore location was extremely friendly and professional. Very attentive, checking to see if I needed anything else, how it tasted , was I ready for dessert, etc. And the food was delicious. The OG Nashville ordered as medium hot was a good level of spice and a good portion of chicken. The fries were good and the Half n Half was on point. I can't believe it took me this long to get here. It was a tad pricey at $23 a la carte (adding a modest tip), but a combo price would be nice. Again, the customer service was tops, so that made the experience great, so I will definitely be back soon.

Was hanging out with my best friend and he mentioned a chicken spot he loved called Roaming Rooster. There just happened to be one closed by we swung by. I had seen this spot before and always wanted to try it. I got the OG Nashville. I went with medium heat since it was my first time so I could gauge their heat level. For me, medium had the right amount of kick without making me sweat. The chicken was fried perfectly (crispy on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside). The slaw on the sandwich was really good and a perfect combination to cool the heat. The sandwich was substantial so bring your appetite. The fries were really good also. Note that they give you a LOT of fries. One order is enough for two to share. It was on par with my favorite chicken sandwich shop called “The Bird” I used to go to in San Francisco when we used to live in the Bay Area. I picked up some chicken tenders for my daughters (9 and 11) who are chicken tender/nugget connoisseurs and they gave it high marks (with the exception of the pickle….they are not pickle fans). I do appreciate that their food is made to order so there is a little wait but when you get it it's freshly made. Overall a great experience and I will definitely be back.

When I walked in, it was a little confusing because people were waiting for their food at the register so it looked like folks were in line. When I asked, they said they were waiting so I went to the register to order and was ignored. I was not greeted or acknowledged. I continued to wait for awhile. Finally an employee said ahuh what do you want to order. I placed my order. When it was ready, I will have to say my sandwich was hot and fresh. The coleslaw definitely has more of a lively flavor, you can tell it has cilantro, very light on Mayo, it had a refreshing taste. I didn’t like the seasoning on the breading that the chicken had. My fries were cold, which they did forget to give me and I had to go back and ask for me. The tables were all dirty, I moved around a few times and had to clean each table I sat on. Oreo milkshake was very delicious, the ice cream they use is very creamy. In my opinion, the place wasn’t anything special. Typical fast food, reminded me of Five Guys but Five Guys is better. Employees weren’t friendly or professional. I speak Spanish so I could hear what they were saying. The food wasn’t good in my opinion. I wouldn’t go back. Not clean, there were cleaning supplies at the stairs, surprised it wasn’t put away in a closet or out of customers way.

This is a fast food fried chicken sandwich place. The sandwiches were really good. The coleslaw was a bit strange. The machinery was quite loud, so that's why I only give 3 stars for atmosphere. It might be quieter when it's not summer time so the air conditioner is not running. The sandwiches were really really good. I will definitely be back for more.

I decided to give this place a try tonight and it did not disappoint!! The young woman and man on staff recommended a popular item -- the honey butter sandwich-- it was fresh, well done, and flavorful 10/10. The staff were also friendly and welcoming - a plus especially right before close

Service is so bad at this location. Workers here cannot communicate in English. There needs to be a manager on shift to run the orders and customer communication. I went in for a pick-up and the guy was confused. Mind you, I just got a text saying my order is ready. The bag is right in front of him. I leave and when I get home, I realize they only gave me 6 nuggets but I paid for 9. I called multiple times, no answer. Finally someone picks up after multiple messages and calls. She takes 5 minutes and still can't locate my order. Again, I was just there like 10 minutes prior. She finally finds it and was like ok next time you order just say you have a credit, WHAT? No refund me my money. She was like I can give you $3 back, that still doesn't make up the difference. I ask if she can email me a receipt and this is the worst part, she says I have to put you on hold I have a customer.... I told her not to put me on hold because I'm also a customer and they've made a big mistake. She puts the phone down and continues to help the customer. I'm on hold for another few minutes and she answers the phone and says your refund is already done. I ask why would you put me on hold then, she just keeps saying she had a customer. She's not understanding there would be no need to put a customer on hold if you already finished the transaction. I remind her I'm waiting for a receipt, her simple answer is no. Just no. Not I can't, I don't know how to, just no. Service is always this bad and honestly the communication barrier, even when ordering online is just unworth the visit. I did also see a huge rat by the outside seating are as well.... so there's that. There are waaaaay too many chicken joints around to put up with such a bad experience. I'm going to roam on down the street.
