Excellent bakery. I've tried so many things, the Frenchy sandwich (3 out of 5 stars - the bread was delicious but a bit too hard and I had to add more of my own fig jam or it wouldn't have tasted like fig at all, otherwise, very tasty sandwich), the ravioli, which is excellent (5 stars), the rigatoni (I use in my own mac & cheese), the bread, the pastries! Morning buns are delicious toasted in my own toaster oven, and so big I can't eat a whole one on my own. The handpies are amazing, I also toast those up.
The produce is always fresh and delicious, especially the eggplant and the tomatoes.
The only thing keeping this from being a 5-star review is that it IS on the pricy side. I am one of those people who does not mind paying high prices for quality, and Roan Mills does exemplify quality. However, their prices are high even for me. $6 for a morning bun or a handpie. $25 for a chicken pot pie. That's alot. Sell a personal size pot pie for less so people can test it before forking over $25; what if they don't like it. They're out $25 and the pie goes into the trash. Same with the apple, cherry, and pecan pies. $8 for a Frenchy sandwich that I had to doctor up myself to make it palatable? It had almost no procsuitto on it, and I had to add my own fig jam because there was barely the tiniest smear of fig jam included. I guess I was lucky there was brie. I know the cost of ingredients has gone up, but if I'm paying you $8 for a sandwich, it should be a good sandwich.
Also, their coffee is delicious, but NOT HOT. I have a pet peeve about coffee that is served lukewarm. It's not a good thing if I have to microwave your latte when I get home.
So I never spend less than $50-$60 when I go to Roan Mills, and I usually end up with: a package of ravioli, 2-3 handpies, a morning bun, and a loaf of bread. Along with a few veggies. That's it! That is only 6 bakery items and maybe an eggplant, some mushrooms, and some herbs or tomatoes. That's EXPENSIVE. Either I go grocery shopping for two weeks, or I visit Roan Mills for a few treats. I don't get to visit Roan Mills very often.
Oh, and just an update on the hours - maybe it's just a holiday thing, but they're open more days now. They are now open Wed-Sat, 8am-3pm. So 4 days a week instead of 2, which is nice I guess.
