"Roast, a steakhouse launched in 2008 by Michael Symon, was a catalyst for Detroit's culinary resurgence. Known for its happy hour menu featuring a popular burger, it closed abruptly in January without notice, displacing 30 workers. Alumni include chefs who went on to open Selden Standard, the Skip, and the Metropolitan." - Serena Maria Daniels

"This long-time downtown chop house inside the Westin Book Cadillac is already famous for its dry-aged ribeyes, filet mignon, and its date-worthy Porterhouse for two. What diners in the know are also aware of is all of its steaks are from sourced from Creekstone Farms, a major purveyor of halal-processed proteins." - Serena Maria Daniels

The service was great and the atmosphere but the taste of the salmon was a bit bland the rib eye steak I felt the same about. Everything was cooked to perfection as far as tenderness and moisture. The whipped potatoes were delicious and I had them loaded to make it even better which it appears they normally do not do but I def ennjoyed them. Mac n cheese was good but I needed a little salt and pepper. The potatoes around my salmon were a little oily. I don't feel it is worth the price so I probably wouldn't go back. I enjoyed my drinks as well. The waitress and the staff that fills water and takes dishes were very much on point which is why I gave 4 stars or I would have given 3.

So I have been here twice. The first time it was phenomenal, the second time, not so much. We ordered basically the same meal on both occasions. The first time we started with meatballs as an appetizer and they were delicious. The second time I visited, they were still tasty but dry. I also had a Caesar salad which I loved so much the first time, I took one home for lunch the next day...this time this was also dry. The sides were pretty much the same....the mashed potatoes were ok and the brussel sprouts were ahhhhmazing. The steak had good flavor but was terribly underdone. I was just barely able to eat mine (honestly I should have sent it back) but my son sent his back because it was nearly raw on the inside. Between the two experiences, I am torn about whether I should go back. Price wise, Roast is a fairly expensive restaurant, especially if you are having a steak... It definitely was not worth what we paid on our second visit.

My wife and I eat out alot in Downtown Detroit and around the Metro area. Roast ranks up in our top 5 restraunts. Our server Michael was very nice and very informative. The Ceasar Salad was so delicious it was almost to good to be true. Food was excellent! We will be returning. Absolutely a great place for any occasion.

Pretty good Happy Hour at the bar. Decent variety of Happy Hour drinks and tasty bar fare. We ordered the burger and Mac and cheese. No complaints here! Very attentive and informative staff. Will return to try the dinner menu.

Roast has the BEST burger in the city. I know most people that come here come for a lavish dinning experience, which they have as well, but I've only dinned in after work in the bar area for a quick drink and small meal. The entire restaurant is nice, the atmosphere is genuine, and the service is top notch. The bar area holds about 20 seats and picks up a nice crowd aside from the general restaurant area. But back to the burger lol, it's AMAZING!! It's loaded with a fried egg, bacon, lettuce, the works; and it comes with fries. For happy hour I believe it's half off. I've also enjoyed their Brussels sprouts which are cooked well and very delicious.

We had a business dinner here at Roast. We had a reservation, and a nice, friendly hostess greeted us and took us to our table. Our table was really nice and big! It is nice to have a group dinner without worrying about how much space you are going to have without bumping your elbow into your colleague. I ordered Branzino for my main dish. The server warned me that it comes with its head and tail, which I was already aware of, but appreciated the kind warning. It was beautifully done and quite large too! Branzino was not only beautiful, and it tasted as great as it looked. It was packed with flavor, completely de-boned (thank you!). Moist, flakey, just perfect! We had a few side dishes to share among the table as well. We chose Rosemary Fries, Brussels Sprouts & Walnuts, and Grilled Asparagus. They were all so good, we all enjoyed them. I was pretty full, but one of my colleague talked me into getting a dessert… Yes, I am so easy when it comes to dessert! I ordered The Bar. It was interesting, kind of a deconstructed S’mores in my opinion. Our server, Brandon was a top notch server. He provided great service, we didn’t need to ask for anything! And, always “ladies first” kind of service, from handing out the menu, serving drink and food. Love being treated like a real “lady” among all the gentlemen. Needless to say, the business dinner was a big success. Everyone enjoyed their food and drinks, and we were able to converse in a spacious table without being crowded. I would definitely recommend this spot!

Great meal and great service! I had the Seasonal Pasta (which ended up being lobster fettuccini) and it was incredible. My Wife had Filet Mignon. We loved both of them. Would highly recommend.

Expensive but a great dining experience. The bone marrow and Riesling were amazing. The charcuterie board was appetizing and if you ever go for happy hour ( highly recommend), you must try the hamburger with egg. It's amazing!
