The website belies the reality. This was a landmark. A beautiful setting to enjoy some of the best food in Oxford. A mainstay for boaters and those traveling via the ferry, what happened? What a disappointment and what a shame.|Close the restaurant to allow the memories of the Inn’s “past life” and glory remain.|So sad.|Our food was awful||Of note, Pope’s Tavern is also closed and apparently the owners have applied for a new permit of change.||Thank goodness for The Highland Ice Cream establishment.

This place is a trip back in time; slanted floors, door jams, etc. Our experience was not the "antiquey" B&B feel that we were hoping for. It was just an old historic building with a little charm. Our room was small, but adjoined a bathroom and then a sitting room on the other side of the bathroom. The A/C worked and made the room comfortable and the bed was nice. We had a great night sleep. We did not have dinner there so we cannot comment on the food. I feel that it was a little expensive for what we got so we probably will not return. I understand that the Inn has recently changed ownership so I'm hoping they take the time to restore this potential beauty to its potential.

This is in regard to renovations and menu changes performed by new ownership for the public and dining spaces. Ruinous choices, taking an eighteenth century space with twentieth century colonial revival renovations, ripping all that out, and installing the most garish, ugly furnishings imaginable. Milled and carved woodwork don't mix with what I guess one might call Swedish mid-century leather seating. Monotone paints don't work in spaces that have detailed carving that would historically have been used to accentuate. Lowes ceiling fans surely shouldn't be the choice in such a space. And that's the decor. The menu; here's a location, a space, an ambiance that all call for classic Eastern Shore fare, classic American, perhaps European influences owing to the history. What I shouldn't be seeing: multiple tempura dishes, mahi-mahi, tortilla, quesadilla. I have no issue with a restauranteur wanting to explore these, but do it somewhere without the tradition, community importance, connections. Any number of restaurant spaces in Cambridge, Easton, St. Michaels, or Annapolis could host the decor and the menu. Instead, this ownership group wants to rip the soul out of a place that matters to a community and its people. All with a bogus Disney-esque rewriting of its history in the meantime.

The best part was leaving. It was a disaster— no front desk staff, cold cream of crab soup, dirty handrails leading to the room complete with bird poop. The smoke alarm was dangling from the ceiling and the window curtain was pulled off the wall on one end and disconnected at the other. There is long standing debris in the yard and no one was working on repairs. The place was devoid of guests and I understand why. ||I recommend closing the place until it is ready for business again.

The new management has a passion for history and quality; both in experience and service. The food is wonderful. The bread is fresh baked in house. We were truly blessed by our experience. Although we didn’t stay in the in this time, they took the time to give us a tour and we will definitely be here to stay in the future. As both a Constitutional attorney and a teacher of the Revolutionary era, I was truly impressed by the experience. Visit for Christmas- the ambiance is warm and inviting.

Came here last weekend on a quick trip to go check out my husbands boat. A nice quick stay for one night. Everything was good except for the WiFi. The WiFi was slower than the data on my phone sadly. Ahhhh wish I could have relied on it. The staff was friendly and tried to be helpful but I know it’s a small town so internet is not a priority.

Went for the first time for my sons 24th birthday. Pros: Love the look. Inside and out. Great atmosphere. Fireplace going. The food was great.. we had salmon, shrimp Alfredo, steak, and cheeseburger all was excellent. Fries were great too. Homemade rolls were good. Bacon sausage puree was good too. The baguette that came with puree was great. The apple caramel bread pudding was great. Cons but by no means bad. Salad greens were a little bitter. Felt the steak dinner should of had a different potato option than fries. Finally felt the bread basket should of came with the meal vs. add on. I was a great night and the food was great. The atmosphere was great. We would definitely go again.

We loved staying in this beautiful inn dating back to 1710. You have to realize that it is not a modern hotel with its conveniences and go with it!||Our large 314 year old room was beautiful with its air conditioning unit and nice bathroom. We loved the crooked slanting walls!|We were in a corner room with two water view windows. | |We had a coffee machine outside of our room. ||The employees here are| friendly and helpful.||The restaurant serves DELICIOUS food.

Had a wonderful dining experience here with a group. Service was very good, great menu options for food & drink, nice atmosphere too. Would definitely recommend & return!

The Salters Tap Room and Tavern: Dinner was spectacular at the Inn's restaurant. The service was friendly and prompt and everything tasted so fresh. We sat indoors in one of the booths under exposed brick; had it not been a 90 degree evening we might have sat outside on the patio overlooking the water! Would return next time we find ourselves in Oxford.

We are staying overnight in Easton for an anniversary, and I made our dinner reservation at the Robert Morris Inn in Oxford. It was a perfect evening. I love history. The drive through the countryside from Easton to Oxford is lovely. The Robert Morris Inn is at the very end of the road, right on the water. They do have outside tables on the patio, but it was threatening rain, so we ate inside. It is a historic tavern. The food was excellent, from start to finish. Our server was pleasant and the food came out promptly. My husband ordered a mixed drink, and I had a glass of wine. We shared the Eastern Shore crab salad, which is lump crab wrapped in paper thin cucumber slices--a very pretty presentation. My husband had fish & chips, which he demolished. I ordered the shrimp curry, which was really delicious. I almost licked the sauce off my plate. We shared a slice of Smith Island cake. It was a very memorable anniversary dinner, and we walked down to the water to enjoy the sunset afterward. Perfect. This place is a gem.

Do not stay in the cottages, they smell like a sewer!!! Had to check out and leave to a cleaner hotel. The place was outdated and smelled musty and moldy. The breakfast was good, but the tavern also smelled musty and the room was warm. Very disappointed with the accommodations...

Went here for a romantic weekend with my fiancé. This is a great place to stay if you are looking for a cozy beautiful hotel with great views! It was cold so we didn't go outside much. The people that work here are so nice and helpful! From booking online (they called is a bit after) to ideas of things to do around town. If you want a new fancy hotel with all the amenities, this is not for you. The room did not have a tv, but plenty of signal for our phones. The bed was one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in! Included with our stay was breakfast! The food was amazing and the staff was super nice! All in all, I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

We returned 42 years after a honeymoon at Robert Morris and selected a "superior" cottage to avoid the stairs. The cottage smelled like mold and mildew - visible mold above the sink (cleaned upon request). There is some type of air cleaner in the room doing something. Pink fixtures, peeling wallpaper and 60ish wall to wall carpeting complete the picture. Recommend AVOID the cottages. The food at the inn was great!

Patrick Kane, bartender extraordinaire and super server made our night! From the beautifully crafted Elderflower Pear Martini to the perfect menu guidance, the evening was lovely, due in no small part to Kane. The oyster pot pie was perfectly balanced with sweet oysters and rich "gravy". It's common knowledge that the Robert Morris burger is a keeper, but the fries...crispy outside, soft interior, salty...exactly what fries should be. With spirited live music in the background and the glow of the fireplace, ambience was en pointe! Thank you to the wonderful Robert Morris Inn!

My wife and I stayed at RMI in early April, so very out of the tourist season. If 3 and a half stars were an option, I'd pick that but I rounded up here. I really want to empathize the positives here because the negatives are nitpicky things but are notable. The pros, in no particular order: The room was clean The bed was very comfortable Staff was friendly and very responsive Great view of the bay, Chesapeake that is. Breakfast was a great value ($20 credit use or lose) Parking was easy There is a tavern/restaurant attached Free WiFi The cons, also in no particular order: No Kleenex in the room No Mini fridge, ice was only available from the office Ridiculously small bathroom (see photo) Stuffy room, even with the windows open but they did provide a small fan No elevator, so I hope you're okay with stairs Spotty WiFi service but it's free Also, no tv is provided in the room, which they advertise, so personal preference if that is good or bad. There are a number of B&B's in the area, so choose wisely, but RMI will do their best for you.

We've been to the Inn many times over the last year and a half or so. We enjoy having breakfast on the porch when the weather is mild. Today we arrived around 9am. They we were not very busy, and we seated ourselves at the middle table on the porch. They've always instructed us to seat ourselves. We sat there for half an hour and no one even made eye contact with us. The waitress passed our table several times and attended to the tables on either side of us. She did not acknowledge our presence in any way. If you're familiar with the Inn, you know that the porch is narrow and the tables are close together, which meant the waitress passed within two feet of us on multiple occasions. After half an hour we left and went to the Coffee Trappe where we had an excellent breakfast with outstanding service. We make it a practice to treat wait staff with kindness and respect. We are always forgiving of circumstances beyond their control, such as being short staffed or unusually busy. I have never sent food back or even left a bad review anywhere, but this was ridiculous. We have had good service there in the past, but probably won't ever go back.

Oxford is a protected harbor for watermen who harvest oysters, crabs, clams, and fish once Maryland's largest port of call and is still an important center for boat building and yachting.  Sailboats and yachts gently pass by well-manicured landscapes of the stylish historic homes.  With approximately 700 residents, the town's charming and unique characteristics give you a glimpse of small-town America.   Staff at the Robert Morris Inn have made changes in their day-to-day operations and are following CDC guidance for your safety. Built-in 1710 and operating as an Inn since 1800, this is the oldest full-service Inn in the United States. Important historical figures such as the First President of the United States, George Washington stayed in their 310-year-old rooms.   The first floor houses the formal Dining Room, Salter's Tavern, and the Tap Room, seating up to 170 customers; the 14 historic bedrooms are located on the second and third floors. Adding to the historical value the original wood paneling, red brick fireplaces, and oak timbers are all as they were 310 years ago, hand-built by ship carpenters from locally acquired materials and the red bricks used as ships ballast from England. The Inn has been enlarged several times since its first use as a private home. The staircase which leads to the guest rooms is the enclosed type of the Elizabethan period and was built before 1710. The flooring in the upstairs hall is Georgia white pine. The nails were hand made, and the 14-inch square beams were fastened with hand-hewn oak pegs. Four of the guest rooms (rooms 1, 2, 15 & 17) have handmade wall paneling from earlier periods, and fireplaces built of brick made in England, and the Tavern's slate floor came from Vermont.   Now I have read several accounts of guests saying that the Inn is haunted. I can tell you I'm a skeptic and don't believe in ghost stories and we didn't experience anything out of the ordinary. The house is old and if you like old historical buildings like me then you know they creek, make weird noises and have strange smells occasionally. This historic home is just like all the others in that sense and I love it. My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Robert Morris Inn, now it could use a bit of updating but then I would have to say you would lose that historic feel. If you want all the conveniences of the modern-day then go stay in a fancy hotel with elevators and motion sensor lighting. If you want that down-home country feel with that experience of staying in a historic home from the 1700s then this is the place for you. Don't take the lack of modern conveniences for a place where you won't enjoy your time. We loved every minute of our experience.              We had a delightful experience staying at the inn with a wonderful dinner and breakfast. Chef-Partner of the Robert Morris Inn Mark Salter knows what he is doing! Chef Salter can be found in the kitchen focusing on all the fresh seafood the Chesapeake Bay has to offer. I had the Robert Morris Inn jumbo lump crab cake, sautéed zucchini, and squash with French tarragon, tomato, and lemon butter sauce. My wife had the tenderloin of beef with sautéed spinach, butternut squash, caramelized onion mashed potatoes, and burgundy sauce. We also had breakfast the next morning we both had the Grand Marnier French Toast with powdered sugar and strawberries, I had a side of scrapple and she had the bacon. Both breakfast and dinner were fantastic and we would recommend that if you are in the area or are staying in the area that you try the food here.

I love this place. We come here every year for a couple days. The Inn is very historic. The food is very good at the restaurant located on the premises. Bike rentals and kayak rentals on location. The location is wonderful on the Tred Avon River

We had high hopes for brunch at the Robert Morris Inn but left deeply disappointed. Our waiter had amnesia. He forgot our drink order, didn't bring cream with our coffee and forgot to bring butter or jam with our toast. We waited another 5 minutes for cream and never saw either butter or jam for the toast. The $4 orange juice is only 4 oz and it tastes like it's a mix. The eggs and bacon were well cooked. The biscuits and gravy were mediocre. The view and ambience are nice but this restaurant leaves a lot to be desired.

Great little Inn and Tavern, a lovely find. Fish n Chips were great, and so was breakfast. The Pub Sauce was a great hit. The rooms are old and quirky, but that is what I want from an historic old Inn.

Nice experience We spent just one night in February. The rain and cold prevented us from doing too much outside. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the accommodations were clean. The cooked breakfast was excellent. The attached restaurant was convenient and food excellent. You might bring a sweater for use in the cool common areas.

Each year it's been a welcome respite from the rush of every day life to walk through the front door of the Robert Morris Inn. One feels the character and charm walking through the original part of the Inn built in 1710. None of the door frames are squared and I need duck slightly to make I don't hit my head on any of the door frames, but that part of the allure of spending a weekend in history. None of the rooms have telephones and Oxford didn't have cell service until recently, so one could totally retreat -- even though one is less than two hours from Washington, D.C. Until last year, there was also a restaurant which served the best crab cakes bar none. I generally don't believe food recommendations by celebrities, but those crab cakes, especially the crab cakes au gratin, were awesome. The innkeepers also own other lodgings in Oxford, along Tred Avon, so we generally lounge away the days watching the sailboats or the evenings watching the meteor showers. Regrettably the future of the Robert Morris Inn is in doubt as the original innkeepers are looking to retire and sell the Inn.

My wife and I stayed at the Inn 40 years ago for our honeymoon. We loved it. I decided to surprise my wife with a stay here over the weekend for our 40th wedding anniversary. There is a new owner and we couldn't be happier. The Inn was opened in 1710 and has been in continuous use ever since. That's 310 years. The current owners purchased the Inn a few years back after it had fallen into disrepair. They got a grant of a few million dollars which disappeared quickly working on structural issues. Much more needs to be done but I believe they will find a way to get the work done. The restaurant was open with social distancing. We had breakfast there three times and dinner there twice. The food was amazing with a wonderful IPA on tap. Please support this business and help keep an American historic Inn going well into this century.

If you are an environmentalist, or are considering this Inn for the electric car charging, please read what follows. I am likely one of a few working class people who live in Oxford. I was considering the purchase of an electric vehicle, but there are no chargers nearby other than the one at the Inn. I was then informed by a wealthier Tesla owner in town that the Inn allowed him to use their charger. When I called to offer the same, that I would even pay for the service, they refuse stating "we don't allow non-customers to use our chargers". I guess they only allow wealthy non-customers to use their chargers. If you care about worker's rights, or the environment, don't give your money to this place... they are all about the profits, and not the environment.

I stayed and eaten here many, many times over the past 25 or so years. Most of this was back when the Gibson family ran the place and the "relatively" new owners have maintained a charming and high standard. The Inn itself is old and shows it in a charming and antique way. It doesn't have all the comforts of a modernly constructed Hampton Inn, for heaven's sake the main inn dates back to 1710. It is wonderful that such throw-backs in time still exist in America. I stayed here yet again this weekend and loved it. Some rooms have private baths, others do not, so be aware. They are priced accordingly. The bar and restaurant are the best in Oxford. Saying that, there is not much completion in terms of dining, but I don't mean that as damning with faint praise. Breakfast is included as part of your room price up to a $20 a person limit. The food is good although not gourmet, though reasonably priced. If you want really gourmet food, go over to Easton. In Oxford the dining options are limited and disappointing, except, of course, for the Robert Morris.

The restaurant was 5 star The oldest Inn in the country at 1710 the main hotel accommodations are not for children, but they do have an expansive off site that is better for small children Can't say enough about their culinary skill. This is not a summer beachy menu but has a great fall winter feel

My husband and I have different ideas of what constitutes a good weekend away: He loves the outdoors, sleeping under the stars, and cooking over an open fire. I like nice meals, cushy accommodations, and shopping. So, he planned what should have been the perfect compromise away weekend on the Eastern shore: one night of camping at Tuckahoe State Park followed by a relaxing stay at a B&B with water views in Oxford. Upon seeing my room, I wanted to be back in the tent. I will start with the positive, which was the food. We had breakfast at the inn because it is included in the room rate, for up to $18 per person. While other reviewers have commented on the high prices, $18 certainly goes a long way at breakfast! I found it extremely reasonable. We enjoyed french toast, egg/crab Benedict, coffee, and multiple sides, and our bill was still zero dollars. Service was polite-- not exactly speedy-- but on pace with what I expected--this isn't New York City, after all. We sat on the end of the porch and enjoyed the tranquil view and the wonderful meal. A woman even came by and asked if she could take our picture in order to paint it later because it was so picturesque. Another great attribute of the Inn is the location: besides being right on the water, you are right in front of the ferry dock, which comes every 15 minutes. You can get on with your car and then take a short drive to St. Michael's. It's very convenient. Within very short walking distance along the water from the Inn is the Scottish Highland Creamery, which has great ice cream. You can also walk to a small market, a bookstore, and a few other restaurants. The location of this Inn is exactly what you want for a quiet weekend getaway. Also positive were our interactions with the staff. The staff was friendly to us and promptly showed us to our room. When I locked myself out of my room (oopsies! It locks automatically!), the woman at the desk was very kind and not at all annoyed. The waitstaff was very friendly and polite, too. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed, and even grossed out, by our room. It's important to note that we did not stay in the main Inn building. I have no idea what those rooms are like. We had booked one of the Bottle Cottages. They are using the word cottages very loosely here, as both cottages are simply one tiny old house from the 1950s (1960s, maybe?) that has not been updated. The website description describes the Bottle Cottage as, "Large rooms with two in the cottage. More modern with seating areas and direct water views. Televisions are provided in these more modern rooms." Calling the screened-in area a porch is a joke. The two provided chairs cannot even fit side-by-side in it. There is nothing modern about the bottle cottage: mismatched floral wallpaper and upholstery, two twin beds pushed together, old, stained carpet. It was really, really, unappealing. There was black mold in the shower and everything just felt dingy, stained, and old. Even my husband, who loves to "rough it" was skeeved out. He agreed to go to the car and get our sleeping bag from camping, and we slept in that instead. I did not complain to the management because there was nothing they could do and it was only one night. What were they going to do? Replace the carpet, shower, and bed before my eyes? For $240 a night (198 on a weekday), I expect way, WAY more. The worst part is that the room was stifling. It was not even a very hot weekend and the room was so musty and hot. I wanted air freshener, a candle, a fan...anything..so badly! We had been warned not to touch the air conditioning or it would "freeze up," so we just suffered through it, ending up on top of our sleeping bag instead of in it. For me, the whole idea of staying at a B&B is to have a nicer experience than home. I was very happy to come home to my modest, but clean, apartment at the end of this weekend. However, if I were back on the Eastern Shore, I would not hesitate to stop back at the Inn for brunch and water views.

I booked a room at this inn for mid January. I needed to call and change the date.I have been trying to get a hold of someone there for the last six days! I have called no less then eighht times a day, the phone is continually off the hook or they simply just do not answer. I have also sent two emails, no response! This is terrible terrible customer service! I have absolutely no desire to go there now and I had really been looking forward to spending a couple of days there because Iam a history buff and wanted to have the experience of staying in the oldest inn in the country. Iam extremely disappointed in who ever is running this place, they obviously don't want the business!

Always good to visit Oxford (try the swings in the little park looking out over the Tred Avon). Restaurant not too pricy and food is great -- especially at lunch.

Just got back from a weekend getaway to Maryland's Eastern Shore and we had the pleasure of staying at the Robert Morris Inn for 2 nights. The front desk/booking staff was very friendly and helpful in making our reservation and checking us in. The inn is located across the street from the Tred-Avon River, Oxford-Bellvue Ferry, and Tred-Avon Yacht Club. Being a 300+ year old historic building, it has some quirks that add to the charm. Our admiral room was on the third (top) floor and had water views from both windows. The bed was only a double, however it was clean, comfortable, and had a lot of character. The bathroom was quite small, but also clean and functional. We ate two brunches (included in room rate) and one dinner at Salter's Tavern and everything was really good. The service was attentive and the food came out quickly. Views from the porch while dining were relaxing and romantic. All around, great dining experiences. Overall the stay was very pleasant and ideal weekend getaway with proximity to both DC and Baltimore.

The place is adorable in aesthetics, but other than that it's not exactly the most comfortable place to stay. You have to know what you are getting into. If old, quirky, and unique are what you're going for, this is your place. If you are looking for a comfortable weekend away, it's not. Something to that effect is even written on the inside of the doors. When I went, there was an unusual warm front and we ended up on the top floor with no air conditioning. It was at least 85 degrees in our room with no way to cool down. Therefore, sleep was lacking that night. Breakfast was included with our stay, though, and it was excellent! It was the only meal we ate in the tavern, but was totally worth it.

Stayed here over the weekend but most likely we will not be back unless it's to dine. The location is excellent as Oxford is an awesome place for a getaway and will certainly be back to the town. The staff are extraordinary with Brennan and David being about the finest young men you could want to meet. The restaurant and bar manager, Julie was the greatest, after a few moments with her it's like having a best friend there with you. She will do anything to accommodate you, she deserves credit for her kindness. There is a young lady that cleaned the room her name is Dayja and she is very sweet and hospitable. Janet was at the front desk when we arrived and she was very welcoming, she's is a very nice lady. All in all meeting the staff was a pleasure. The food in the restaurant is great and just about anyone should be able to find something they want to eat. The chef is very creative and If we ever come back it will be for the food and the service not the hotel. I have to keep in mind that it is the oldest inn in America and I'm certain it's a challenge to maintain but the rooms vary in condition and furnishings that range from very nice to yard sale chic. Our room did not have ac but the ambient temperature was such that it wasn't an issue. However a close examination will show that housekeeping is not much for vacuuming the corners and dusting is spotty. Expect a lot of peeling paint and floors that are so out of level if you don't remember that as you're moving about you could possibly fall and hurt yourself. The shower faucets are not pressure balanced and will scald you if your not careful. They are kind enough to put out plenty of bottled water with a coffee maker on every floor a very nice touch. It is a unique experience but not what I expected. It had always been a desire of mine to stay there and I did, But again it's the oldest inn in America I just hope that eventually they can get a handle on the maintenance, it's probably a daunting task. Quite frankly they should get credit for just trying. With that in mind I think I'll give them an extra star. They do have cottages as well and was advised to ask for cottage number 2 if we ever returned. I wish the staff all the best for their sincere kindness we will always remember them with great fondness. It appears that they are pet friendly, although we are past the pet stage in our lives we appreciate the benefit of being able to bring your best friends with you. To us that's a big deal.

Expensive, quaint inn. Very Small rooms. I understand that Maryland is all about crabs, but No vegetable entrees on the menu in the tavern? The drinks were mediocre although the food was very good. Actually, I don't think the "bartender" had any training at all... Once, we left some untouched and ordered wine after The wait staff at the tavern were disorganized but quite friendly. The staff at the Inn were mixed; actually I had some reasonably small issue and one of the owners, rather than listening, tried to dodge/blame/duck/rationalize, rather than at least making me feel heard. I was left dumfounded and exasperated.

This will be a two part review; first, the inn and then the tavern. I will also note that we got our room through a deal on groupon which may differ on opinions from those who paid full price for rustic charm. As the one of the oldest inns in America, the Robert Morris Inn has its quirks. The floors slant, the doorway to our on suite and the shower were both comically small for my 6 ft fiancée, and the small double bed was rather uncomfortable; we have back aches and this is the reason for the 2 star demerit. This is not a fancy five star hotel. Do not expect a large bathroom, TV in your room, or a typical hotel experience. However, if you can look past its quirks you will find the RMI to be a quaint piece of history worth considering. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They went out of there way to make us feel welcomed and offer recommendations. The inn looks over the water, right near the ferry, and is only a short walk from the few town highlights. Free water and coffee is available in the hall and complimentary afternoon tea and breakfast is a nice touch. However, the real highlight of this place is the tavern. We had two complimentary breakfasts here and one dinner. The wait staff is the nicest I've ever experienced and the food is outstanding. The chicken curry was creamy and delicious and the avocado fries were a quirky and tasty app. We enjoyed both breakfasts on the porch overlooking the water. Food was great! We tried the Crab Eggs Benedict (a must), Grand Mariner French Toast, blueberry pancakes, and the classic egg breakfast. Definitely worth the trip to just eat here if you are in the area.

Very quaint inn. This building is over 300 years old! There's a lot of history here! It's right by the water, great place to relax. Don't expect a fancy hotel. There are no tvs and no phone in your room. The rooms and bathrooms are tiny, the doors are hard to open and close, and the tiny ac unit hardly cools down the room when its hot and humid. The restaurant is very good, you get a free breakfast when you stay here and is totally worth it.

First I have to say sitting on the porch and having breakfast is wonderful - only wish they would include the potatoes with your meal. But Beware of the Inn. They have two rooms call Bottle One and Bottle Two - Don't book those rooms!!! They smell and have the twin peaks feel! Like your great grandma's furniture - truly a time capsule. Can't really say a nice thing about it. I would go stay at the Sandaway next door next time I come to Oxford, which has a wonderful view and lawn to sit out on and watch the boats go by and then have breakfast at the Robert Morris.

We had planned to have dinner in Annapolis but decided to come into Oxford since we were staying at the Robert Morris Inn. What an excellent decision we made! The Inn is delightful and the Salter's Tavern is a hidden diamond. For starters, the martini was perfect. The Maryland crab cream soup and crab cake were, hands down, the best I've ever had cross my lips (and I consider myself something of a connoisseur of Maryland crab). Side dishes (asparagus and Parmesan fries) were as good as the entrees, and the desserts (Myers lemon cake and chocolate caramel creme brûlée) were superb. Chef Mark Salter's talents are worthy of the finest five-star restaurants. Oxford and the Robert Morris Inn and lucky to have him and his delectable offerings in their midst. We will most definitely make it a priority to return! The Inn was delightful. Yes, it is historic and slightly quirky, but then so am I (more historic than quirky). The innkeepers were very accommodating and went out of their way to meet every need. The rooms were charming and the bathroom was spacious with good, hot water. It is a unique space with interesting history. It was a privilege to spend part of our vacation here and we look forward to returning. Soon.

We've been coming here since 1979. The Inn used to be almost magical in its charm and service, but that is clearly not the case today. While the food is still quite good, the cleanliness of the rooms leaves much to be desired, detracting greatly from the Inn's charm. The greatest disappointment is the substandard service, which begins with the Inn's current owner, Ian - who can best be described as arrorgant and thoughtless. This is a must miss destination in charming Oxford!!

We stayed at the Inn for two nights doing the mid-week leisure package. Our goal was to eat Maryland crab for breakfast, lunch and dinner in an historic Chesapeake Bay environment. This was the perfect place. It met all our expectations. I'd highly recommend to anyone interested in a very old historic Inn on the Bay nearby other Bay towns and activities. The Inn is not overly restored. It's still the real deal, cozy, quiet, and not feminine frilly. If your expecting high speed internet, big screen TV, and a large glamorous bathroom, this is not your place. There is wifi, but sometimes intermittent. The food was excellent, and staff friendly and attentive. I'd certainly come back, especially when I'm craving crab by the shore. It was a very enjoyable stay and the mid-week leisure package makes it a good value.

We actually stayed at the Sandaway Lodge, which is owned and run by the same folks who run the Robert Morris Inn, and is located about 2 or 3 blocks down the road. Unlike the Inn, the Sandaway sits directly on the water, so many of the rooms have water views. My wife and I stayed in the Tuckaway Cottage for a brief honeymoon. It's a little detached cottage a stone's throw away from the main building. The room was very nice, clean, spacious, and nice and cool (which is crucial because it got pretty hot out). The one downside (which we knew going in) was that it didn't have a view out over the water. If I go back, I think I'll go for one of the rooms that has a direct water view. Speaking of which, the view is great. We sat on watched the sunset over the Choptank river on some of the Adirondack chairs sprinkled about the lawn. Word of warning in the summer: wear bug spray after dusk/dark. I got eat alive by vicious eastern shore mosquitoes. The staff is all very friendly. The complimentary lite breakfast is delicious (fruit, a bit of yogurt, muffin, small personal souffle, juice and coffee), and if you don't fill up on the first serving, they'll bring you as many as you want. All in all, I would certainly recommend this place, and will definitely be returning.

The Robert Morris Inn doesn't know the meaning of customer service. We gave our parents a gift card and when then came for dinner, the card was rejected - they had to pay. The Inn refused to resolve the issue with us and not only was this completely embarrassing, but the ongoing excuses for something so easy to resolve are pathetic. Not to mention my parents noted the meal was mediocre. I'd advise taking your business elsewhere. There are many charming places with great service in the area.

My husband and I stayed at the Inn for 2 nights. We are from the Philadelphia area and were in the area because I was a craft vendor at the Great Chesapeake Balloon Festival, so we made it into a weekend. We loved the history and ambiance of the Inn. We were able to check in late due to the festival and that was a plus. Our room was actually a suite with a little sitting room and a large bathroom. The only criticism that I have about the room was the air conditioner in the bedroom, being a window unit, was right next to the bed and it was either blowing right on us or was too stuffy when turned down. But much better than no air at all. We did have an incident with the maid service. My husband and I were in and out on Saturday morning, at least 4 times before we left for the afternoon in which we were gone for 3 1/2 hours. Each time we came and went we passed 2 maids on the second floor, in the same spot every time. They were friendly and said hi, we actually mentioned to them that we would be out for the afternoon. When we returned at about 3:00/4:00 pm, our room had not been cleaned. Later when we left for dinner we asked the front desk about when we could expect service and we were told that the maids had left and that they had tried to knock when were most likely napping! The woman at the desk knew our room number and our comings and goings!! She seemed to be defensive about the situation instead of just saying "we will take care of it!". The room was clean when we returned from dinner, but I felt a bit like she made excuses that no guest wants to hear. We travel a extensibly and have never been made to feel that it was somehow our fault that the room was not cleaned. That's not okay!!

This historic Inn is charming not only for the quaint location, lodging, but more so for the charming staff - specifically, the British born chef and owner, Mark Salter and his Scott's born wife Ailsa. Mark's flare for turning traditional Eastern Shore fair into something nearing nirvana, leaves one yearning for more from his magical kitchen. The menu is surprisingly diverse with items such as spring rolls stuffed with crab, watermelon salad with feta cheese and grapefruit, seared Asian tuna, and perfectly cooked lobster with all the accoutrements. Dining on the garden patio, surrounded by the fragrant flowers, and feasting on such exquisite cuisine may cause one to feel as they have been enchanted.

We stayed at the Inn one night and found it so pleasant that we decided to stay another night. The food was fantastic, starting with the salad all the way through to the dessert. The salmon was perfect and it was served with vegetables cooked and seasoned just right. The wait staff, particularly Kirsten, were helpful and friendly. We'll be back.

My husband and I stayed for our first anniversary weekend and we were less than pleased. I booked one of the waterfront "bottle" rooms that is a cottage unattached to the Inn. The location and view was awesome but our room was not. The entrance area was dirty, covered in webs and bugs and clearly not maintained frequently. Our room smelled of literally a faint vomit smell the whole weekend we were there. The air wasn't strong enough to cool the room down which was extremely frustrating on one of the hottest days of the summer this far. My husband did go over to complain about the air and was told if it's set to anything below a mid 70's temp it would shut the air off completely. They did provide us with an extra fan but instructed him to close all the curtains to help keep the room cool. They were very kind but paying 240$ a night for a water front view to be told to close the curtains to have a the room get below 80 degrees upset me. I'm not high maintenance, my husband and I are big campers but we were paying for a nice weekend relaxed from the elements. The pictures of the inn are beautiful. A vintage historic feel. Our room looked like a make shift, cheap and tacky version of the inn with stains on the carpet. There had also been food from the previous people who stayed there in draws. I expected more for what we were paying. I wanted to leave after the first night but my husband convinced me to stick it out since we only planned a 3 day stay. Hopefully the Inn is a better but I would never book there again.

We stayed here with 8 other couples on my " mystery destination" event. Everyone enjoyed the inn, and i had no complaints from anyone, in fact the reverse. Food was great. Staff was very helpful to me in making it a very successful occasion.

Service is so bad it is insulting. Coffee is served in plastic cups, unless it is part of the regular meal time, no napkins for those who like to sit down for a simple drink b/n 10 and 12, 3 and 6, etc. Staff explains, "we are transitioning..." as if this should justify the horrible service. The restaurant treats people as if they are idiots, as if they can't know better, and simply should take the airs it puts on at face value. This place is NOTHING but airs... and the fact that it is now run by the chef, truly outrageous!

I am reviewing the inn and not the restaurant. The restaurant was great five star! The accommodations were terrible. The room was worn and dirty. The bathroom was small. Only one outlet in the room worked and the gfi in the bathroom worked. My cell phone and computer wires were plugged into the bathroom. Climate control was open windows no air conditioning. Flashlight and last tenants trash was behind the bed. Lots of dust and no attention to detail.
