I had read some really great things about Robert, so decided to take my partner here for dinner for our anniversary. I saw a number of less positive reviews, but as the menu frequently changes I thought maybe there are some "off" nights so decided to reserve a spot anyway. We arrived on time for our reservation, and were given our choice of tables as the restaurant was relatively empty.
There is an a la carte menu, or it is possible to do a 5 step tasting menu. We asked if it was possible to make the tasting menu vegetarian, but it wasn't because apparently they just take dishes from the a la carte menu, make them smaller (if that's possible!) and that's the tasting menu. So we ordered a la carte - I had the veggie salad with shaved cheese to start, with a Moscow mule, and my partner had the scallops and a glass of wine. The salad was underwhelming, with a very light dusting of cheese and nothing exciting happening. The scallops apparently were amazing, although the dish was tiny with two little scallops. While we were eating our starters, a massive fly flew into my partner's (almost full) glass of wine. We alerted the sommelier who told him she would use a spoon to take it out, which she proceeded to do in front of us. This was a a bit shocking, as giving him another glass would cost the restaurant next to nothing, and would have kept us happy. Anyway, our mains arrived. I was so excited to try the homemade ravioli with pumpkin filling. It was served with a butter sauce and some toasted nuts. Again, quite underwhelming. Obviously the ingredients are all of a high quality, but the portion size for almost 30 euros is ridiculously small, and it was just a bowl of ravioli in a sweet butter sauce (which I didn't like at all) with not much else going on. My partner's beef main dish was also super small, and he didn't enjoy it as much as his starter. We were still hungry so ordered two desserts, which were ok but at this point I was just ready to go home.
We had one really kind waiter working there, who had just started but when we had questions she would follow up with colleagues or try to help as best we could. Otherwise, the wait staff, food and overall experience (the restaurant remained pretty empty throughout the evening) were all very mediocre. This is a shame because this was supposed to be an amazing meal for a special occasion when we didn't mind the splurge (we paid 130, and I could have had a snack on the way home).
