Drive-thru institution tied to the city’s famed Whole Enchilada legacy, founded by the late Roberto Estrada. Generous burritos, red or green enchiladas, and everyday plates make it a local comfort standby.

My husband and i frequent here quite often. Everything we have tried here is great!! Green enchiladas are delicious n so are the tacos and burritos! Service may not always be up to par but the food makes it worth it!

Google
Food is delicious, especially the red chili burrito banado, red enchilada's and sopapilla's! Extra red chili please... Great atmosphere. It's like my second home!

The beans were interesting but actually good as well. But shame for a taco plate; I would believe I was missing only one taco, but overall, that, luckily, was good stuff anyway for my first time eating this, as far as I recall.

Google
Service is lousy! Who waits almost an hour for 3 stuffed sopapillas? If one was on their lunch hour, they would definitely be late getting back. They cared more about their drive thru customers than they did customers inside. Everyone was complaining. Quality and service is down.

Google
We ordered $30 of food Tues June 3rd. Got home noticed the whole bottom of the brown bag was saturated in grease. We took our food back and asked for our money back. Their cheap new owner Yvette’s son gave us $5 back. We just wanted our money back for the 4 burritos we ordered not the rest of the food. The Lady that went to the back to speak with this owner was very rude to us and we will never go back there when we are in town. Grew up here have always supported Roberto’s restaurant when he was around and there after. They do not care about their customers or customer service. Shame on you new owner and staff. Take some courses on automne service

Went in yesterday Dec16 At around 11:30 to dine in, we ordered our fresh made tamales our drinks and a bean burrito, we waited for 30 minutes just to be told they didn't have any tamales of any kind, the people ahead of us had been waiting for longer just to be told the same thing. They sold us tamales they didn't have. We did get a refund for the tamales as well as the other customers. We got told that we could order ahead of time for the next day so that the same thing wouldn't happen so that's what we did. They told us our fresh tamales should be ready for pick up from 10:30 to 11 am. I ordered one dozen red and one dozen green cheese. When we got there this morning around 10:45 they told us they only had red left that they hadn't received the green ones yet? They offered me green chicken tamales instead but that's not what we wanted so they told us we could wait for the green ones to get there or come back later but they had no idea when they would arrive. We waited for about 30 minutes then they tell us the green had just came in . They sold us frozen green tamales 😭 They warmed them up as we waited for the fresh tamales to get there.🤯 We waited a whole day just to get the same frozen tamales Walmart sales. Make sure if you're dinning in to confirm they have what you are trying to eat, or you will be waisting your time waiting just to get a refund. And if you order for another day just know they'll pull a fast one on you and sell you half warmed up frozen tamales 🤢. So make sure you check your tamales. We will not be returning here, They have no communication within they're team . The girl that took care of our order kept filling up orders as well as the drive through lady, without confirming they even had tamales. We waited 30 minutes just for a bean and cheese burrito. If your hungry at the moment I do not recommend going here as the waiting times are bad and they probably end up serving you warmed up frozen tamales. If we wanted warmed up frozen green Chile tamales we would of asked for them since the first day, or even have had gotten them from Walmart for only 97 more cents. It may not be a big deal to many others but twice our family meal got ruined by the unprofessionalism of the team at Roberto's. We miss the old times where things like these would only happen as a last resort and with the customer approval. We couldn't eat together for the second time since we had to warm up the tamales correctly, While the fresh ones cooled down .💔

The owner and her daughter have great customer service. We were recommended by an Amazon employee. We were greeted bythe owners daughter and she had great customer service and was fast unlike the other employees that gave attitude. Specially a young short girl that was not the daughter of the owner. I have talked to the owner before and I know it's a family owned. The food is great but not authentic in many things they make. I was happy and still like the food that is why I keep coming back but I might just stay away from dining if the customer service is not going to be polite and professional.

Google
Horrible place! This is the second time we visited this place. We decided to give them another shot. The place has a dreadful atmosphere no music, and badly lit. The cashier both times was rude. If you don't like your job, don't work there! The employees touch the trash can with bare hands then handle food right after, gross!

Yelp
This place is amazing! It is definitely a go to for locals when in Las Cruces. The walls are adorned with news articles capturing the history of Roberto's as well as paying homage to veterans of the city! Roberto's offers great food and. Very reasonable price. $4 for the potato and bacon breakfast burrito?! Yes, please! A Sopaipilla for $1.50 that is huge and delectable- absolutely! Get there earlier on the morning if you want to ensure your breakfast burrito, by 10am, they were out of many ingredients. Staff is friendly and helpful! You can order inside or through the drive thru. The food is simply delicious. It's prepared and cooked so well. You just have to experience it for yourself! Don't forget to order a dozen tortillas to go. 12 tortillas for $2.50 is the best deal for the best tortillas! Yum!!

Yelp
Restaurant used to wonderful to go to and eat, but sadly the owner, Roberto has passed away and his daughter has taken over the drive through and she is mean, hateful and nasty. Today, she actually overfilled my to extra large to go order in one small plastic bag, before handing me the bag, it exploded and red chile went everywhere, including on my new expensive purse, which she couldn't care less about, me the customer. She just became hateful and nasty about her clumsiness and the mess she caused. I've been coming to this restaurant for years prior to the death of the owner and she's always had a look of hatred, but she's become worse. If only she could be replaced, this restaurant would be once again a great place to go like when her father was alive. She has done a disservice not only to her deceased father, but also to the customer. There's nothing special about eating inside, no ambiance.

Yelp
Roberto's is an old favorite. Walked in to get an order to go at 6:00pm and was surprised they told a few customers after us that they were going to close even though their posted hours were 8:00pm. The food was delicious with fluffy sopapillas and a relleno burrito with just the right spice.

Renée W.

Yelp
I had a red potato sopapilla with beans & rice. I loved it but the sopapilla could have been more seasoned. Hot is not a flavor! My husband had a bacon potato burrito and he loved it. Of course, horchata for our beverage. Took home their yummy tortilla chips. The service was incredible with only one very nice lady doing the drive through. Order taking, serving inside take out & phone all while still smiling. The place was busy. The ambiance was early cafeteria but had a large area for big parties. I was hungry and forgot to take a picture. Everything was done to go serviceware with plastic knives and forks. I will go back I thought it was good food great beans great rice the sopapilla could be improved on but everybody's taste is different.

Maria W.

Yelp
The food is delicious & so Authentic. The flower tortillas were soft; reminded me of my mom's. Chile Relleno burritos , soft Chicken Tacos, Beef & bean stuffed Sopapia-Excellent!Sorry, no pics cuz, food was waiting for us to devour & It didn't make it home!

Yelp
It's all about family values that makes this place great, quality food done right! This is an original recipe tamale with standards great value!! Can't wait for more

Yelp
The food is good but the service is slow and unfriendly. I waited a long time for a burrito and a pint of beans. Others that came in the restaurant placed an order after and left before I got my order.

Vicente S.

Yelp
Food was okay, nothing to write home about. However my biggest concern was the metal I found inside my tamale. A metal shaving from steel wool was inside my food. Called multiple times and got no answer. Trash. Don't ever go here

Danielle M.

Yelp
My significant other went to Roberto's about 20 minutes ago to pick up three dozen of their rolled tacos. I bit into one and there was a tooth pick , actually rolled into the taco . I called to complain , they would not let me speak to the manager or give us their name. They also , said there's a warning on their menu inside that there may be tooth picks In the food. I understand how one can break , but how can a whole tooth pick be rolled into the middle of it. I will no longer be going there. If it was a small child who bit into it , it could harm them , tremendously.. This isn't the first time either , I've heard from others the same thing has happened to them at Roberto's.

Margie C.

Yelp
There seems to be new people working at Roberto's. They are very friendly and courteous at the drive-thru and counter. I used to hate going there because of the rude lady. It's a pleasant experience now. Are there new owners now?

Yelp
This place is locally owned and operated by the family of late but forever great Roberto Estrada. Roberto's legacy of Guinness world record enchiladas, his superior business ethic, and the taste of delicious New Mexican style food is what makes Roberto and his restaurant iconic. Roberto's was a place I loved to eat as a kid growing up in Las Cruces. Now as an adult, I the drive thru has been my go to for any food I pick up. My favorites are their burritos, specifically because of their flour tortillas! Recently stopped by for breakfast burritos and was not disappointed! The eggs in the burrito tend to be a bit oily so make sure to ask for napkins! I cannot recall a time I ever got a bad order from Roberto's, although I do agree that the customer service could be seen as cold at times. Growing up I never saw this as a negative because I never felt their intention was to be rude, it was just that the business was always busy and they're always working double time to provide the fastest service possible. Definitely recommend the drive thru because they are making the orders as they come in, unlike the large fast food chains who have the food sitting for hours. I believe Roberto's drive thru does it right even though (as Americans) we think fast food should be FAST!

Yelp
The best green Chile meat burritos in town! They are hot and spicy, just like the locally grown green chiles. The meat is juicy and that's it! Nothing else but these two great ingredients, plus the flour tortilla. If you like hot and green Chile, go no place else before trying this place. This is all I order here, and I'm happy when I do. Be prepared to wait in the drive thru line. They are NOT McDonalds!

Yelp
The service is less than adequate and the food is overpriced for the quantity, the quality on the other hand... delicious and that's why i gave them 3 stars. i paid almost 6$ for this pencil thin burrito

Rob. P.

Yelp
It had been a while since I checked out Roberto's so I needed to update my evaluation. One reviewer stated that the employees were new and that the infamous poor service was a thing of the past. I have never used their drive up window so I can't comment on that but I found the service at the front counter to be pleasant and efficient. No complaints. The menu of course is mostly New Mex. Prices are very reasonable. The interior is clean and roomy. It is a nice place for a casual meal. Roberto's operation continues to be similar to fast food. You order at the counter, pay, and they give you a receipt with a number. They call you up to the counter when the food is ready. Mine was ready in about ten minutes and presented on a tray with the food on plastic plates. You take the tray to a trash can when you're finished. No follow ups or table service but no tipping either. Today I ordered Roberto's Special Plate and a red chile con carne smothered burrito. The combination plate had two enchiladas covered by a green chile sauce with white cheese. These enchiladas were so-so. Rate them a B-. The tamale was made with what appeared to be a soft white tortilla with no masa flavor. Inside the tamale I found cheese and bits of chile...no pork. That's how Roberto's does their tamales on a green combo plate. The tamale had a little kick and I kind of liked the flavor but it seemed much like the enchiladas. Rate it a B- also. The whole beans on the plate were fairly good. Rated them a "B." The rice was the usual. A ground beef taco with a crispy shell accompanied the meal. It was just ok...nothing special to note, Rate it a B-. The chile relleno was small and not great tasting. Instead of a light coating of batter it seemed as if a large pack of dough was tossed over it...thick with an eggy flavor. There was no cheese inside the somewhat small chile. This was a rather strange relleno. Rate it a "D." Over all, this plate was not poor but somewhat mediocre. The red chile con carne smothered burrito had a fair amount of meat inside and no potato. The flavor of the meat and chile sauce was rather strange: It seemed to have too much cumin flavor in it...or something, Rate the burrito, sad to say, a "C-." All in all...the atmosphere, prices, and service at Roberto's were fine today, but the food was not top drawer. With most of the food in the C- to B- range I don't think I'll be hanging out there. Rate the overall dining experience around THREE AND A QUARTER STARS....for very pedestrian.

Yelp
Went here this afternoon & the old lady at the drive through window.. was SO RUDE i even feel like she's past being rude if you ask me, the usual customer service as always.. (ASS) when i drove up to get my order from the window she litterly "handed" basically threw my bag at me. I get home and my enchiladas are all lopsided where they should be.. its almost empty, they landed over my rice and beans, & not to mention all the slams of drive through window they give you in your face before the shitty customer service, they have the window broken from slamming it with all their might.

Tammy M.

Yelp
Food was bad. Service was fine but that didn't help the food . No one else was there so I should have taken that as a warning
google avatar

Jennifer K.

Yelp
I ordered a potato and egg burrito and it was completely saturated in oil. Totally inedible! I love Roberto's but I've never been so disgusted. This has happened multiple time now. I won't be going back.

Yelp
Same good food and service was great! Support the business that's supported our community!

Yelp
This place use to have the best food in Las Cruses and excellent customer service. Came in today place was empty figured I would get great service since it wasn't busy. customer service was terrible lady in the front was complaining the whole time yelling like a mad woman. Food was not the same Never coming again! I guess I'll just stick to Andele Mexican Restaurant.. Ambiance negative 10

Mary B.

Yelp
Sorry to say because I use to like Roberto's. But it was the worst Chile ReIleno plate.
google avatar

Diana S.

Yelp
Roberto's food is always very delicious. Sometimes the service feels a little fast food service and their dining room is sort of fast food looking but the food is always delicious. they just need to maybe make another restaurant that cozy looking.

Bernadette N.

Yelp
Very poor customer service. The cashier who also takes the orders is rude and angry. So is the only waitress present. I was hoping the food will make up for the poor service but it didn't. Don't bother going to this place. it's a waste of time and money.
google avatar

Miguel N.

Yelp
DO NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL I'm surprised they're still in business. Worst customer service ever, the lady in the drive through was sooo rude, I pulled up and was asking for the total when she yanked the credit card from my hand and slammed the window in my face without telling me. When she came back and opened the window I asked for the total again and she responded: "do you want the food or not." She threw the food at me and slammed the window again. It was a horrible interaction, I wish I would've seen all the reviews about the kind of customer service they have I wouldn't have bothered going at all. All in all the food was unimpressive, not worth dealing with horrible service. Can't imagine anyone would deal with the service with so many other options for Mexican food in town.

Yelp
Growing up in Las Cruces i always knew about Roberto's because of the whole enchilada festival. My parents never took me though. It wasn't until high school that my buddies wanted to make it a regular spot for lunch. Shamefully, I wasn't that into Mexican food back then. Having travelled around the world for work and living overseas for years made me crave my roots and my appreciation for Mexican food came to life. I can say on my most recent visit to Roberto's that it was a forgotten gem. It's very simple. It's an order at the counter and go sit down. Some may think it's fast food, but in many ways it's a hybrid of fast food and sit down. I really appreciate that aspect of the restaurant. My wife ordered Christmas enchiladas and I got the Gordita plate. From the rice and beans to the gorditas, all was prepared properly. Mexican food is supposed to be heavy and grimey. If it's clean and decorative you are at a commercial spot. Don't get me wrong, Roberto's is not throwing grease and lard at you. They are simply cooking their fare properly. LoL. My wife explained that she quite enjoyed her enchiladas. She does, however, like her food so hot that you can feel the ring of fire the following morning. That was really her only disappointment. I agree that the food could be spicier. As expected, the chips and salsa were good. Nice kick to the salsa. Their chips are very well known as you can find them in local grocery stores everywhere. I did notice they had sopapillas. I did not get them, but I will next time. They appeared to be of proper size. However, I only caught a glimpse of them. I have been very disappointed in the flat fried dough most restaurants are serving as sopapillas these days. More to follow.......

Yelp
If you like to wait and expect to be treated like a nuisance, this is the place for you. The drive-thru is guarded by a joyless, painfully unpleasant woman who shows little gratitude for a loyal customer base built by her father. Sometimes the apple does fall far from the tree, and there's nothing worse than the putrid smell of a rotten apple. Once you escape the grip of the troll guarding her bridge, you might have a mediocre meal.

Craig R.

Yelp
I fell in love with their green meat burrito over 10 years ago and stop through any chance I get (which is occasional as a truck driver). Can't get enough
google avatar

Agnes L.

Yelp
I love the food from Roberto's- every Easter I drive from El Paso to Las Cruces to get a 3 dozen green enchilada casserole. It has been a staple dish in my home for Easter-for over the past twenty years. In addition, their whole pinto beans are so delicious - every time I go-I buy a gallon of beans to go. The potato burritos with cheese, and the bean gorditas are the best!!! I just love going to Roberto's!!!
google avatar

Diego L.

Yelp
Robert's hasn't changed since I was a kid, same food, same rude ladies, and sticky lobby....
google avatar

Beth G.

Yelp
Nothing served there that you cant easily make at home .. Small portions and under seasoned...not recommended.

Janice A.

Yelp
Since I don't eat meat, I need to ask for Chile rellenos with chopped green Chile on top -- that's a winner for me. But there regular green chile sauce has meat.

Em Dee W.

Yelp
Never again! I've ate at this place for years but, the last few years, always disappointed. 1st, I believe it's Roberto's daughter maybe granddaughter works the drive thru. She is the most unpleasant human. Rude! I avoid the drive thru during the morning when she is usually working. 2nd the food is simply crappy now. Has been for some time. Do you like salt? You'll love this place. Want a burrito you can hold and eat? Don't go here. Seems they are always short staffed and none of the employees can roll a burrito. Fillings falling out in the bag, bacon undercooked, salsa tastes like tomato juice now and I'll never buy food from this place again!

Duke T.

Yelp
Many people enjoy the food offered by this establishment. Their reputation is well known in Las Cruces. Which makes this all the worse for having to report. We ordered over almost $500 of food from Roberto's a week in advance of a funeral repast. We had confirmed earlier that day with a representative who assured us our food for pickup would be ready at the appointed time. When we arrived direct from the graveside to pick up our rather large order, we were not greeted by anyone in the establishment, nor is there anything like a separate counter for.pickup orders. We were deliberately ignored by the staff until finally one of our party approached on of the counter workers and stated our business and that we were told our order would be ready. She barely acknowledged him and we proceeded to wait until finally they began presenting the trays on the counter. No one from Roberto's offered to help. This was 40 minutes after we had arrived for pickup this large order meanwhile the 2 staff workers helped everyone who walked in to the restaurant before ever acknowledging our presence. When we finally delivered the food to the VFW where the repast was held we discovered they had not even fulfilled the order completely. We were cheated on top of all else. We were there almost an hour loading while not one word of apology by the staff nor offer to help with this order. Clearly Robertos relies on their reputation and feel comfortable treating customers in this fashion. They are not the only game in town and they are now crossed off our entire family's list. And in spite of our recent loss there are still many of us who will no longer patronize Robertos due to the terrible unprofessional customer service.

Yelp
Very disappointed will not go back. I have had there breakfast burritos they were good. Ordered take out for dinner. I had the chicken flautas meal. Beans were dried out as if they had been sitting all day long. Chicken in the flautas were so dried out over fried you couldn't tell it was chicken and had no flavor. The red enchiladas were terrible. Sauce not the same as it was before.

Andres U.

Yelp
Food is good, and so are prices. Just don't appreciate it when they give whole beans in the bean burritos. Like how lazy can you get??? Also, I pulled to order, and the lady said "WHAT?!" And I had bought chips and salsa, and they gave the salsa without the lid! And they cut their portions on the chips and salsa.
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Stopped in for breakfast. It was delicious!! Didn't get a chance to get a picture because we inhaled it!
google avatar

Amy Z.

Yelp
We haven't lived in Las Cruces for many years, but our memories of great food was always Roberto's. So when we came back to visit we were excited to go order food from Roberto's, but were so disappointed with how rude the woman was who worked the drive thru. Extremely poor customer service and a serious let down. Not worth coming back again.
google avatar

Jude H.

Yelp
I really love their nachos and their enchiladas! Their tortillas are awesome as well!
google avatar

Travis K.

Yelp
Roberto's is a Las Cruces legend. The food is always tasty and consistently well prepared. The portions are filling. The service level has improved. I took a break from Roberto's since I moved away from LC, but came back on a recent visit. (When I was living in LC I would always just look past it because the food is just so darn good.) On this visit it was a big change for the better. All the faces were new, and I was greeted with a smile and spoken to nicely. Minus one star for using antiquated styrofoam plates and plastic utensils. If you want to put yourself a rung above basic fast food those kind of details need to be improved.
google avatar

Alma S.

Yelp
I have been eating at this restaurant since 1997. Their red chili is so authentic and delicious. Their green chili ROCKS! You really can't order a bad meal here. Roberto's is the king of the Whole Enchilada Festival, and if you had not had the chance to attend and try this enchilada dropped from heaven, you need to try it. MUST EAT!
google avatar

Sarina B.

Yelp
I am a Las Cruces native and have eaten Roberto's my whole life, along with many generations of family. The customer service has always been terrible at the drive-up window so I quit going a few years back. Decided to try it again and the person at the window, Yvette, was especially rude and nasty. She acts like you're bothering her when you're giving her your business.
google avatar

Jen S.

Yelp
Ordered 3 dozen tamales. All were very good. Chicken and green chili was my favorite.

Kali N.

Yelp
Roberto's food is always good but the wait time is always forever. I waited 20 minutes in the drive through and the owner definitely doesn't mind being rude to customers because she knows she can
google avatar

Maritza A.

Yelp
I've hadn't been here in 10 years and it's still as good as I remember. Ordered the red chile meat burrito and a sopaipilla. The food was delicious and the service was so so. One thing I don't recommend is using the restroom. I went in just to wash my hands and it was awful. Worst part was the smell. Eww
google avatar

Carla C.

Yelp
The red and green chili meat burritos are outstanding. Burritos are filled to the max and with such great delicious flavor. Worth the wait as the line to order from the drive thru can get long.

Irene B.

Yelp
Extremely disappointed - 45 minutes for 3 burritos, 2 quarts of menudo and a taco plate. Get home and no condiments for the menudo. 2 tacos on a taco plate WT???? Beans tasted like they were instant, servings very small. You'd think for the wait and $33 there would be complimentary salsa and tostadas - cheap ass'es Definitely won't be going back
google avatar

Yelp
Purchased pretty much every type of tamales they sell. I know they sell them at the grocery store but getting them fresh IS different....

Yelp
Coming here was a waste of time. My boyfriend wanted carne asada fries, which you can get at almost any authentic mexican restaurant. This place is definitely not authentic, because when he asked the woman at the cash register for carne asada fries, she said "what?" So he repeated it again three times to her but she still said "what?" Each time. I guess she finally comprehended it the third time and she said they don't sell carne asada fries there. So we asked if we could get fries with guacamole and she said they don't sell that either. We were really confused, what kind of "authentic" mexican restaurant doesn't have these things? So we quickly picked something else to order, as she began chattering away with her coworkers and looking away from us. My boyfriend patiently waited to place his order, and when she finally looked our way he started ordering when she just flat out ignored him and turned away again! We continued to wait for them to finish but I could tell my boyfriend was getting mad, so we just decided to walk out because they obviously didn't care enough to take our order, even after we were being patient with them to finish talking about whatever they thought was so important. Don't ever go here. I am usually a generous person when it comes to servers, I get when someone has had a bad day so they're stressed and might come off as slightly rude. That was not the case here! To me it seemed like this woman flat out did not give a **** about her job, the restaurant, me and my boyfriend, or anything but herself. Despicable

Yelp
We had not visited here for several years. Stopped in for a quick meal before heading back to AZ. Food was good and Jessica and the rest of the staff were awesome. We highly recommend stopping here. Not much to look at from the outside but very clean inside. So, stop in and say hi to the girls and enjoy a great meal.

Yelp
NO! The green chile burritos are drier than the Sahara and there was a lot of chile peeling left in the burrito (not good for those with diverticulosis). These people were slower than molasses we waited forever for seven lousy burritos, people who came in after we ordered received their orders first, what did they have to do, kill the cow? In any case I won't waste my time here ever again, Sombreros down the street had a full house whereas Roberto's was dead, no doubt due to they're poor service and food :( Sorry Roberto's, gotta keep it real Only pro was the ample parking lot and dining area
