Rocco's Cucina & Bar - Review - North End - Boston - The Infatuation

"Rocco’s is a tiny bar on Commercial Street where you’ll feel like you’re watching the game in the hold of a ship. You don’t have enough room to bring your whole kickball team here, but if you’re looking for a more intimate place to watch the game that also has a decent menu of pizza and pasta (we are in the North End, after all) this is your spot." - Dan Secatore

The extra block from the crowded bit of the north end makes everything much calmer. Excellent dog-friendly outside patio.

If you’re lucky enough to visit and find Sherveen behind the bar, you’re in for something way beyond a drink. Sherveen isn’t just a General Manager—he’s the heartbeat of the place. His presence elevates the entire experience from good to unforgettable. From the moment you walk in, his energy is magnetic. He’s warm, professional, insanely knowledgeable, and somehow makes every guest feel like the most important person in the room. Watching him work is like watching an artist in motion—he crafts cocktails with precision, tells stories with charm, and leads with grace. You can feel how much he genuinely loves what he does, and it shows in every detail. The vibe changes when Sherveen’s around. It’s more vibrant, more welcoming—like you’ve just stepped into your favorite scene in a movie. He doesn’t just serve drinks; he creates moments. Thank you, Sherveen, for making our night one we’ll remember. The world needs more people like you in hospitality. Absolute 10/10.

During our first visit to Boston, we discovered this restaurant near our hotel. We enjoyed dinner there for two consecutive nights and loved everything about it: the music, the excellent food, and the great atmosphere. The service from the waiters was fantastic, with positive energy and an upbeat attitude. I can’t wait to come back soon!

Worst mashed potato ever, it didn’t even had potatoes it was just flour. $28 dollar for a flavorless dish. Tap water was the best part.

BIG IMPROVEMENT! I’ve been coming to Rocco’s often ever since I moved the north end 5 years ago. In the past 6 months this place has improved drastically. The bartender told me they have a new manager and it’s a change you can tell. The atmosphere felt rejuvenated, with a warm welcome and attentive service that was noticeably improved. Plus the bar/ wait staff are genuinely friendly and attentive.

Google
Food and service were good, but the volume was overwhelming. The club music was fine (it IS a bar and it WAS Saturday night, I understand that) but when they switched over to the March madness basketball game it was earsplitting. We hustled out without waiting for our dessert. The steak tips were amazing and the arancini was great. Nice beer selection, though only one non-alcoholic beer (Sam Adams Just the Haze). Energetic bar scene.

Google
Best of the best. The local hang where legends are made. Sherveen runs the nicest, funnest ship in town. Ayden, Bianca, (especially) Erin, Taylor, Jamba, Julie and Maddie are the best bartenders in the northeast. Every night is greatness. Best drink is the Tiramisu martini. <3 shoutout the calzones.

Google
Shevreen is the best host and bartender of all Boston! The food is amazing, the drinks are incredible and the hospitality is second to none! shevreen will serve you your favorite drink, or whip up something that fits your pallet! You name it, you got it! This is such a fun and friendly atmosphere that you will want to come back for more!! Love this place!!

Yelp
I love Rocco's! If you're in the area, it's the best place to watch a Bruins or Patriots game. They have several screens! Bartenders are always nice and they have a full bar menu. Portions are big (the meatballs are awesome! They have a good rigatoni too. Plus regular bar food is all excellent too. If you're on the north end and want to catch a game or just have a bit or a drink, this is a great choice! Outdoor seating in the summer. Yes!

Yelp
After a long day of whale watching, we decided to get take out delivered to our hotel. The order was fresh and hot. Everything was delicious and so so filling!!! The takeout portions were huge. Easily a shared meal for one dish. The meatballs were big and very well blended and full of flavor. We got the rigatoni Ala vodka, peppardelle bolognese, and an order of mozzarella corozza. The noodles were authentic and homemade! Mange mange!

Yelp
Such good food and great place to watch any sports game!! Haven't had anything bad on the menu

Yelp
Great bar in the North End to watch the game. They mix Italian food and a sports bar vibe. They also have a strange thing with their liquor license so they only have certain liquors. Service was friendly. We didn't get any food but the pizza looked good. Overall a different vibe than the rest of the restaurants in the North End but still cool!

Yelp
Absolute great place to watch the Euro cup. Nice outdoor seating with open windows. Quick service and delicious food. Highly recommend the bruschetta!
google avatar

Kristen M.

Yelp
Stopped in for a drink before heading back to the hotel, we had Bridget for our bartender and she was seriously FABULOUS! She took the time to talk to us and explain to us about the liquor and cordial licenses in the NorthEnd. Great vibes, people, drinks, music. Stop in, talk to the bartenders, have a drink or 3 you won't regret it!

Yelp
Rocco's was right around the corner from our Airbnb in the North end so an easy spot for a beer or some late night food. Went and watched Monday night football and grabbed some munchies. The food company out of the kitchen looked awesome. The beer list was just okay. I'm an IPA guy and their selection wasn't my favorite but one acceptable choice. Had the mozzarella sticks which were delish. Bartenders were great. Place was hoppin for a Monday night. I'd actually like to go back and have dinner here as the food looked awesome. Nice outside seating for a warmer evening available. Felt local and homie.

Yelp
This is a nice sports bar in the North End if you are looking to watch any of the games. It's a little small but the service is nice. And there's enough TVs to see what's going on from anywhere. We had a group come in and order 2 pizzas, the broccoli rabe and the vodka sauce, both were really good. But the vodka sauce was my favorite for sure. And they were priced extremely reasonably. I wouldn't say it's best pizza in the area but still up there. And we also got the fish and chips which were just ok. In all we will be coming back if there's ever a big game day.

Yelp
Fabulous neighborhood place. Generous pours and a lively vibe. Fig pizza and chicken parm sub for the win.

Yelp
The white mashed potato pizza was incredible! My husband and I will be drooling over it until we visit Boston again some day. We also had the chicken tenders appetizer. Huge portion and delicious! Conveniently located in the North End (walking distance to our hotel on Battery Wharf), great staff, and delicious food.

Yelp
I don't review often, but I think more people should know about this place. The staff was super friendly and kind. The food was delicious. I had the ravioli with meatballs and my partner had the gnocchi. The meatballs were fantastic; you can tell they really care about the quality of their food. But let me tell you... the cannoli!! They were the best cannolis I've had in years. I wanted to make a pit stop on our way out of the city just to get more of them. If I lived here, I would go broke. I was told Boston was one of the best places for Italian food and Rocco's proved it true. No notes on our whole experience. Also, please enjoy this cute pup that was hanging on the patio.

Paula C.

Yelp
Great experience! Food and drinks were great and reasonable priced. Service was A+. Definitely more of a sports bar vibe later on in the night but good for dinner as well!

Kathy C.

Yelp
This place is fine if you want to grab a drink. Friendly bartenders and decent music The flat bread pizza was subpar. We were told " we make our own crust". No was it was homemade, it was clearly mass produced. And it was not close to warm. Pass on this place to dine.

Yelp
The perfect mix between bar vibes and Italian restaurant vibes in the North End! Located close to North Station but far enough away you're not in the height of the chaos. A super wide variety of options on the menu so everyone is bound to find something they enjoy! The waitress was very attentive to us and did not get annoyed when we could not decide for a bit once we got there we appreciated the patience. Will definitely be going back to watch a game or for a date night!

Yelp
As I made my way through the North End on Hanover Street, the press of pedestrians grew sparse by the clinic, and near nil once I passed Nico. However, after a left turn onto Commercial Street, I popped into Rocco's to find it rather hopping inside. Several televisions were brightly lit with different sports playing. A bar lined the far right wall of the wide narrow space, with tables set with chairs by the left side, while high tops filling the right. I was immediately greeted by the hostess and led to a table. For my early dinner - Steak & Cheese Wrap $10.95 (Shaved steak with peppers, onions, mushrooms, and cheese. Served with your choice of sides - french fries, sweet potato fries, onion rings, side salad). The wrap was stuffed with meat, a generous portion of cheese, and a scattering of veggies. Juices unfortunately oozed out onto the plate soaking the wrap. The sweet potato fries were lightly crisp on the outside, and a good sized pile on the plate. I asked for some honey mustard for dipping, and at the end of my meal was surprised to be informed of a small surcharge of about half a buck. I came to realize that I prefer my steak and cheese to be stuffed into a crisp crusted chewy roll for a greater contrast of textures. But yes, a wrap is likely the healthier option. Service was fine, and I witnessed the care and consideration set upon a nearby table with a young patron, as bread and a basket of chips were quickly delivered.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were visiting from Oregon and were looking for the best Italian food in Boston. We walked past Rocco's, checked the menu and price and sat down. Our server was super friendly, knowledgeable, and gave great service! Our food came quickly and was absolutely amazing. The best pasta we've ever had. The portions were large, the food was hot, and the flavor was incredible! The owner also came out to check on us, which was not expected, but appreciated. Highly, highly recommend!

Yelp
How many times are you going to come here for trivia night before you realize the game is rigged? I am a big fan of themed bars however, and this place nails the Italian theme out of the park. It has everything a real Italian restaurant would have. Pizza? Check. Pasta? Check check. Meatball sub? Check your waistline! Just make sure you bring enough cash with you or Rocco's gunna wack you with a bread stick.

Emily M.

Yelp
I came here with my fiancé to watch the Celtics game and we shared the fried ravioli and broccoli sausage pizza. The food was delicious and the service was even better! Our server Layla was friendly and helped us decide which pizza to order, she was lovely! Would definitely recommend this spot especially on game night!

Yelp
Kayla was my server and she did a great job. She went above and beyond. The food was very good and the portions were a good size. I will be back again to enjoy the good food and service. Thank you for a great night.

Yelp
The owners were SO SO considerate and helpful. i accidentally left my bag the night before the Boston marathon and they went out of there way to get it back to me very appreciated!! food was great!! perfect carbo-loading meal!

Yelp
Great service at Rocco's from a waitress who got the vibe and only stopped by our table as little as necessary. Not too much, not too little, but just right. Thanks! We had the buffalo wings to start. A-OK with the right amount of sauce on them and a good heat. The small cup of blue cheese was a little challenging not to double dip but we poured it out in halfsies. Nicely plated and delicious. For main, I chose the ziti with chicken and garlic and broccoli. It was tasty with a lot of excellent garlic. I found it to be quite oily though, getting through it and down to a one inch pond of it in the bottom of the bowl. Perhaps too much oil for my taste, but it was good. With the windows open and a view of Commercial, it was a pleasant dining experience. It is in the North End for sure, but around the corner from the usual strip of Italian restaurants on Hanover. As such, it's more "cucina" than "ristorante." Rocco's is A-OK in my book!

Yelp
Service was amazing! We rolled in with a party of 9 and they were happy to accommodate us. Had the house wings: 8, clam chowder: 8, calamari: 9, fish and chips: 9. The kids ordered a bunch of flat breads and they enjoyed it. The gem really was the service! Our server, Lexi is the best! Thanks for the awesome service and recommendations!

Yelp
I went here on a first date and the vibe was solid. Their mozzarella triangles are delicious and they made a very tasty moscow mule. The bartenders were awesome and great to talk to too! It's also easy to get to - just a short walk from the green or orange lines. Overall I had a good time at Rocco's and will definitely be back for more.

Yelp
Stopped in for a few drinks with a group of 7 on a Saturday afternoon. The place was pretty crowded but we were able to find some room near the bar. The upscale italian-ish sports bar concept falls kinda of flat- the semi upscale interior clashed with the cacophony of commercials blaring during college basketball games. Re-runs of the golf channel were also playing. When I asked to change the channel to another game, the bar tender was pretty annoyed but she eventually found the channel.

Yelp
I had my doubts! The last time I went to come here there was an extremely rude woman seating people. She turned us off so much that we left. But last week we wanted to do trivia on Wednesday. Sure enough we went down to Roccos! The food was delicious and the trivia was so fun! The service was decent but no one was rude! Can't wait to come back for more trivia soon!

Yelp
Small, well kept & inviting bar/food establishment. I really enjoyed this place when I lived down the street in the North End, frequented quite often. They have a great selection of alcohol, their food is amazing & they have really awesome employees who are really friendly! This place has their act together!

Yelp
We just got into town and this was the first place we walked by. What a gem!! Nice restaurant and not too loud!! We could actually talk to each other. Food was delicious!! We had turkey club, chicken broccoli pasta and steak and cheese calzone. We will be back!!

Yelp
Food was good, awesome friendly service, casual fun atmosphere !!We wanted to watch a specific football game, they were very accommodating with our seating and put the game on for us. We will definitely go back when visiting Boston again.

Yelp
My best friend and I stumbled upon Rocco's Cucina & Bar while wandering around the North end tonight. The restaurant was closer to the water and away from all the crowds which was one of the reasons we decided to stop and look at the menu. The menu had a decent amount of options and it looked nice so we decided to eat here. We were seated right away for dinner in this small half outdoor section that only had our table for two -- it was so cute! While waiting for our meals they brought us bread -- it was buttery and doughy, so good! For Dinner I ordered one of the specials which was a Lobster roll with French fries (pictured) -- the Lobster roll was so delicious and literally melted in my mouth as I ate it! It was one of the best Lobster rolls I've had in a long time and I would highly recommend getting it if you see it on the menu! It looks small in the picture but it filled me up. The fries were also really good -- overall I was extremely pleased with my food. My friend had a Chicken Caesar Wrap with French fries (not pictured). She enjoyed her meal as well -- she said the chicken was flavorful. And she agreed that the fries were really good. If you're in the Boston area I'd definitely recommend coming here!

Yelp
I've been coming to Rocco's since 2006 when it was called the Waterfront Cafe & I'm really happy to see them finding ways to improve upon their product! I loved their steak tips sub back in the day & their pizza always had a consistent crust! I'm looking forward to talking to Rocco about the most recent UFC, I know he's a big fan of the sport & is a black belt himself in one of the many martial arts out there. Rocco is a big, friendly guy that sometimes decides to work with the staff in the kitchen, & I've always seen him treat his employees with the respect they deserve. I know they offer a full bar as my friend had a shot of tequila once her Croatian team beat Russia haha this is essentially a legacy review, but I will eat here again before I leave so I can update this review with a quality dish or two!

Yelp
I don't really review restaurants here on Yelp and I'm sure that because of that my review may be hidden. Regardless, I came across Rocco's on a walk with my SO and it looked like a very nice outdoor seated, socially distanced place. We were both in the mood for seafood. She ordered the baked haddock and I the seafood medley over risotto (with haddock). Her haddock was a bit dry, but cooked. Now don't get me wrong, this is not some ultimate sin. The mashed potatoes and veg she got were great. However, my haddock had gone off. It was a green/grey in the middle and was mushy. After I relayed this to our waitress she asked for my fish portion and took it back to the kitchen. She came back saying that the chef said that was how it was supposed to look. Haddock is a white fish. It is not supposed to be green when cooked. It really was a shame too because the rest of the seafood medley like shrimp and calamari was outstanding. But to be told that I was being ridiculous and that the fish was good when it was clearly off is disgusting. Not just for me mind you, what about anyone else ordering it? I just cannot recommend a place that does that. It's not 1 Star because I believe they serve good food, but come on now.

Yelp
Uber eats delivered steak tips and onion rings. The restaurant jammed steak tips and onion rings into a box and onion rings are soggy.

Yelp
YUM! I found out about this little gem through this app called SEATED. The app grants you gift cards for either lyft, Amazon, or Starbucks when you dine at a restaurant that you find through the app. All you have to do is upload a picture of the receipt after your meal and within 24 hours you get a gift card. I'm all about free gift cards and Rocco's was one of the restaurants listed near me on the app. We popped in during trivia night and the bar was packed. The pasta was fresh and we loved the buffalo chicken pizza. Great service and vibe. Will be back! Yo! Download Seated....hands down the best restaurant app. Great perks too. Use my code ERIKA189 to get an extra $5: https://seated.app.link/K4iPYLBeQQ

Yelp
Rocco's is FANTASTIC because in addition to serving excellent food, the service is SO GREAT!! This isn't one of the corporate owned restaurants in the North End; a couple owns it and they put their souls into it and it shows!! Our story is that our oven broke and we had people coming for a dinner party. (We live around the corner and have been there for dinner several times before, so we knew we loved it, but we weren't sure they would be able to help us on short notice for a good sized party). We ordered platters of chicken parmigiana and ziti. SOOOO GOOD!! Big portions!! (We had leftovers that our son wanted because he loves Rocco's too) and SOOOO tasty!! Our party was a success!! Rocco's is a little off the beaten path, but this is the type of neighborhood place that is worth seeking out! ENJOY!!!
google avatar

Esteban V.

Yelp
The serving staff made fun of us behind our backs (or so they thought) for taking a group picture. They didn't return our greeting when we said hello. The food was very low quality and dry. Definitely a racist vibe. If you're a person of color take your hard earned money elsewhere.

Autumn C.

Yelp
The sweetest owner, staff and bartenders you can find on the north end! We love you guys! Mrs. Annette is the best!

Yelp
Came here to celebrate my friends Courtney and Ciara . Rocco's delivered as always. 5/5 stars will be back

Yelp
I can't express my Gratitude to Rocco's for staying open for our neighborhood during these very tying times with this awful virus. Just to be able to get out and get takeout (and a great meal!) means a lot. These are very challenging times for all of us, especially a small business like Rocco's. Thank you for staying open for us, this means a lot to me and my neighbors. Very much appreciated, Jerry G

Yelp
Waterfront is an awesome little sports bar located in Boston's north end. I was brought to this place by the trusty UFC app as this is one of the only places in downtown Boston that shows UFC, which is awesome in my book. The location itself isn't bad and the establishment is very well maintained. Had a bunch of beers and actually a couple of dishes which were all delicious. The eggplant parm is ridiculously good and I'd highly recommend it! Overall, this is a great spot to grab a drink and there are literally TVs everywhere, perfect for watching the game or any UFC event. Solid 4 stars. Pros- TVs Food Beer selection Service UFC fights Appetizers Cons- Small Crowded during fight night A bit out of the way

Yelp
Restaurant was NOISY !! Bruins game was cranked so loud it was almost unbearable. The two girls next to us were practically yelling to have a conversation with each other. I had a cosmo and was told they had no top shelf liquor (I requested Tito's). Cosmo was the grossest one I ever had. Ordered rigatoni with prosciutto and chicken in a vodka cream sauce. Legit found four tiny pieces of prosciutto and the cream sauce was so thick it was like eating paste. The pasta was also way under Al dente. Our waitress was not overly friendly whatsoever. Sadly I will not be returning. Had high hopes for trying this place for years. Now wish I had tried another place in the North End.

Susan M.

Yelp
This place was very crowded. So three of us sat at the bar, and Michelle the bartender served us. She made the best old-fashioned! The food was great and ambience was lively and fun.

Micheal S.

Yelp
I love this place!!!! I was actually sitting next to the large table who complained and was screaming "i ain't paying for this" to the poor waiter and the bartender. They were so out of line!!! I highly recommend Roccos. If you go into a busy business take a look around LUCY they are clearly busy! And by the way i saw two of your party eat all of their food! Classless they are!!!! They need to stay away from Roccos!!! We love it here

Yelp
My friend and I came here for lunch during Boston's Restaurant Week on March 16th and it was pleasant! We were seated near the window so we had lovely natural lighting throughout our meal. Their Restaurant Week menu gave us a few options to choose from for our three-course meal. They all sounded great! I had the bruschetta as an appetizer, the chicken broccoli ziti as the entree, and a slice of tiramisu for dessert. The bruschetta was super flavorful and colorful. The bread was toasted and topped with diced tomatoes, onions, basil, and olive oil. One order came with four generous pieces! For the ziti dish, you get to choose between cream sauce or garlic and oil sauce. I had mine with the cream sauce I really loved that it was light and not cloying at all. I wasn't a big fan of the chicken because it was lacking in flavor, but the sauce it was smothered in definitely made up for it. The serving size was filling. My tiramisu cake slice was airy, soft, and brimming with coffee flavor!! The best part was how concentrated the coffee taste was- yum! Our waiter was very nice. He managed a few tables as well as the bar, so kudos to him!

Yelp
WE LOVE THIS PLACE AND TONY best chicken parm. best waiter. highly recommend this place
