Get to Know the Pinot-Loving Duo of Sojourn Cellars

"“We didn’t know what we were doing,” Craig says of the early days of Sojourn. “We went to our family friends at Sangiacomo and they gave us four tons of Roberts Road Vineyard Pinot Noir.” They made 210 cases, which was received well by critics." - Erin Brooks

From the moment you arrive, this winery captivates with its truly amazing entrance. The journey begins with a picturesque drive between lush, vibrant vines, leading to an awesome gate that opens into a verdant, green passage. It's an immediate immersion into tranquility and beauty, setting the perfect tone for your visit. Upon arrival, it's clear this place is a popular gem – delightfully nice and busy, which is why I highly recommend making a reservation to ensure you don't miss out on the experience. The staff here are nothing short of fantastic. Every team member we encountered was incredibly friendly and remarkably informative, eager to share their knowledge and passion for the wines. Their warmth truly enhances the visit. One of the absolute highlights is the freedom to take your glass and simply walk around this absolutely beautiful property. There's so much to explore and enjoy. Be sure to seek out the charming swing and take it for a spin – it's a delightful touch! As you wander, take your time to take in the breathtaking views that surround you; every angle offers a new perspective of the stunning landscape. And, of course, there's plenty to drink and enjoy! Whether you're a seasoned wine connoisseur or just looking for a relaxing afternoon, the selection is sure to please.

The staff were absolutely amazing! Heavy pours, great info/conversation, and a beautiful property. Windsor, Kevin, Mary, Carol...my apologies to anyone I didn't mention, but hands down theeee best crew! Chard and Goat's (too drunk to remember the name) were my faves! 🫶🏾

Lovely winery and great place to visit in wine country. I stopped by for a glass and enjoyed the seating area and walked around the grounds. Very friendly and relaxing.

Google
Amazing experience at Roche Winery! Beautiful views, delicious wines, and a super relaxed vibe. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the tasting was top-notch. Great spot for a chill day with friends or a romantic afternoon. Highly recommended!

Google
Excellent experience tasting at Roche winery! The wonderful host had great information, a laid back approach, and was attentive. I personally preferred the Chardonnay to others tasted while on this trip. Love that this winery is dabbling in brewing as well! The atmosphere made me want to hang out here and enjoy the drinks all day. Highly recommend walking the property with a glass of wine to view the scenes from the wooden swing. That was my favorite part of the trip!

Google
The beauty of this property hit us the moment we pulled into the parking lot. From the expansive rows of grape vines to the colorful decor of the tasting area, we felt at home from start to finish. The entry to the tasting area was beautiful, with vines and a stained glass Celtic look to the sign. With the owners being of Irish decent we felt right at home with my husband's half Irish decent. Our host was very knowledgeable and catered to our tastes to make our small group experience one of a kind. We will definitely be back.

Such a fun day! Very accommodating for our large party of 25 on a Saturday morning. Oysters are very delicious.

Google
Really enjoyed our wine tasting experience here. The estate is beautiful and everyone working was very knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend this winery! The wine was also very tasty! Will be back soon!

Yelp
We found out about this winery where they have a tasting room at Sonoma square. We decided to go to the winery that is about 15 minutes away and in a more relaxed atmosphere that's less crowded. They have delicious carneros Chardonnay but make some other types too. Great place for a drink or tasting.

Yelp
Beautiful vineyard property with a relaxed vibe. I had been to the tasting room in downtown Sonoma once before, and while that is a very convenient location, if you're picking one over the other, the vibe here can't be beat. We had a reservation for our group of 8, we were given a couple picnic tables by the outdoor windows, which was a beautiful place to taste. We were able to roam around and enjoy the adirondak chairs in the sunshine. We also wandered over to the trellis with a swing and to the property line to check out the neighbor's camels. Since we had a large group we chose four wines for the entire group to taste, typically if it's fewer people you're able to choose your own adventure. We tried a nice array of wines, from white, to bubbles, and two different reds. After two visits I've come to the conclusion that the wine here is just not my thing, hence the 4 stars. But that is totally personal preference, others liked it and one in our group is even a member! Service was great and our tasting associate was on top of bringing us our wine even when we were a little dispersed.

Yelp
This was our first stop on our Napa and Sonoma bus tour. Our guide was fun, engaging and funny! The vineyard is beautiful and it was so amazing to see the grapevines, barrels and work area. This was a great start to our tour! Our ushers (amazing ladies who poured us wine AND water) were very friendly. Pricilla was the sweetest and made sure I was properly hydrated during our tour. I am not big on wine but I did enjoy the white wines they served and the last dessert wine since it was nice and sweet! I would definitely recommend visiting this vineyard! I think both wine aficionados and novices alike would enjoy this tour.

Yelp
It was such a beautiful day for a wine tasting! We were able to try 6 different wines that are overall on the sweeter and fruitier side. The service was excellent, and the membership seems like a great deal. The only thing that affected my experience were the number of flies constantly buzzing around. It was a bit difficult to fully enjoy the wines as a result because we were constantly shooing the flies away.
google avatar

Jessica N.

Yelp
Very chill winery! Super spacious and great for groups. Dog friendly! You are able to bring your own food and snacks. You also don't have to do a tasting and able to buy wine by the glass or bottle to enjoy. My boyfriend isn't much of a wine drinker so he was happy to learn they brew their own in house beers! He ordered the beer flight which consisted of 4 beers for $12. What a steal! I ordered a bottle of the Reserve Merlot which was pretty good and fairly priced. Plenty of parking also. Would come back again!

Yelp
This was my second visit to this Roche location. Spent a few hours tasting delicious wine on a sunny Friday afternoon. Love this place! Beautiful location and a short drive from Marin. Lori, our server and wine educator, was very attentive as she served and told us about the wines. We each chose 4 wines to taste, something new to me as most wineries I have visited had a set tasting menu. There's no food service currently on site, although the gift shop sells some snacks. They do allow you to bring in food items with you. All in all a nice outing at a venue I'll be returning to soon.

Yelp
What a nice place. I did the white wine tasting. Sparkling Brut rosè. Quite fresh and crisp. The non oak chardonnay was so yummy and citrusy. The Carneros Chardonnay is creamy and soft. French oak Chardonnay is very good. Oaky taste and soft. Nice texture.

Yelp
I've driven by Roche Tasting Room located in downtown Sonoma many times over the years and was excited to finally try it. The ambiance is very welcoming and comfortable. They have tastings available at their indoor and outdoor bar and seated tastings outside. They have a covered area during the wintertime and a couple of firepits. The tasting room is located right across from the Sonoma square. Mark was our host for the tasting, and he was wonderful! He shared the history of how Roche began and that it is still a family owned and operated winery today. Those are often hard to find these days so it's always great to support a family winery. They offer both wine tastings and wines by the glass. I enjoyed a wine tasting since this was my first visit and liked all of the wines that I tasted and purchased a couple bottles of their Rose. I will be back to grab wines by the glass as this is a perfect spot to relax and enjoy.

Yelp
Booked a wine tour for our Bride to Be. This is one of the wineries on the tour. Wine was good. Chardonnay & Tamarix were winners! But what made the experience great was Gayle. She was awesome, sweet and nice. And generous with the pour! Tom was also awesome! Very knowledgeable and kind! We love Tom & Gayle!

Yelp
Hanging with hubby for anniversary. Quick stop here has been amazing. Jonathan was such a great host and very knowledgeable about the history of the vineyard. We joined the wine club ( extremely reasonable). Beautiful atmosphere. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Came here for our one wine tasting in Sonoma. And I was very impressed with their setup and location. The ambiance is great. But there are wayyyyyyy too many flies. So beware if you don't like flies. We were literally attacked by a swarm of them. And when i mean attacked, I really mean attacked. We were swatting them from our faces, arms, legs, and drinks. I really wished they could do something about the flies. because it really ruined the experience for my family who had had a great experience at a wine tasting in Napa Valley earlier in the morning. We moved tables and they somehow still chased after us and were there. Other tables for whatever reason didn't seem to have as big of a problem with the flies as we did. I don't know what we did wrong to these flies. The staff members were super nice. The wines were reasonably priced compared to what I was paying in Napa Valley earlier that day. The muscat canelli was my favorite and i ended up getting a bottle of that.

Yelp
I remember going to this spot in 2015 and it wasn't as big or colorful as it's now! I loved walking in to this space and looking around hess beautiful spots to sit and some spots outside (near the parking) to picnic. This was a weekday so it was not too crowded but there were still fair amount of groups enjoying a nice sunny day! The chardonnay was my favorite here and they have two wine tasting list, premier and otherwise. They do have some hummus and veggie board if you like to get it and some really nice chocolates!! That weekday, it seemed kid friendly but if you have a running kid might be best to get one of the picnic spots outside and grab wine.

Yelp
This is my happy place. The staff are helpful and friendly, the wine is delicious, the atmosphere is great. Dogs and kids are welcome. They also have a home to rent out that has its own pool. Surrounded by vineyards and close to downtown, easy and quick access from the 37.
google avatar

Jamie S.

Yelp
Unique wines you can't find anywhere else (only direct sales). Jonathan was a wonderful and knowledgeable host for our tasting. Large, comfortable outdoor space and great views, and kid-friendly.

Yelp
So, let's start with the positive. The patio is really quite lovely - undulating grassy area, windscreens, and great Feng shui. We hit it on a very nice February afternoon and got lucky. The ambience sets you up for a breezy and slightly upscale experience. Our server was decent and kind, albeit a little perfunctory. Unfortunately the wine was ... just not good. The roses too fruity, the reds too facile, and even a little bit of funky aftertaste on some. Our group of four couldn't even bring ourselves to buy even one bottle which is unheard of for us --- we usually can find something alluring. The only other quibble was that a set of kids were running amok on the grassy area. It felt like the parents had truly taken the day off of parenting and the staff sort of shrugged their shoulders. Perhaps Roche should consider an adults-only section which would go a long way towards mitigating this.
google avatar

Christine H.

Yelp
Great views and spacious patio area. Great service and their vineyard is beautiful. Their 2021 Carneros Chardonnay (oaked) is really good. It's very smooth and has a nice taste.
google avatar

Kary A.

Yelp
If you have not been to the winery you are missing out on a beautiful winery!! Wines are solid and prices are very reasonable. We did not pay for the tasting because our friends are members here so we got a free tasting but tasting prices are very reasonable $30 for the family tasting menu and $40 for the reserve. It was a warm day so I really enjoyed their sauvignon blanc and their rose. Very refreshing and easy to drink. We will be back soon.

Sydney B.

Yelp
Staff was very knowledgeable about each wine that was provided. The grounds were beautiful and we even got to see a neighboring camel from across the fence. Would recommend for a nice, casual, and peaceful wine experience!
google avatar

Natasha P.

Yelp
Such an adorable, smaller winery in Sonoma. The prices are much more affordable than the bigger wineries (I think our entire bottle was around 30$!) , and yet the quality still remained great. I loved that we didn't have to choose a tasting, but could order by glass or bottle if we preferred. I wish I remembered the gal who helped us because she was so wonderful! She helped us navigate the menu and choose according to our tastes. The grounds are beyond gorgeous, so be sure to take a photo on the swing bench! We would certainly come back if in the area.
google avatar

Dana S.

Yelp
Ambiance - 2/5 Service - 2/5 Wines - 3/5 Really wanted to like this winery. Unfortunately our experience was subpar. Upon arrival, there was a strong manure smell that violated my nostrils. Our server was trying his best I believe, but didn't seem to know that much about wines compared to other wineries we've visited. He was also very forgetful to the point I was wondering why he didn't write down orders. Definitely one of my least favorite winery experiences. I see great reviews so maybe this was a bad day for them but I unfortunately wouldn't recommend Roche to anyone.
google avatar

Nich R.

Yelp
My family and I enjoyed our experience here very much. Dehvan was very helpful, friendly, and fun. Loved the atmosphere, the views, and there was even a camel sunbathing at the adjacent farm. 10/10 from us!
google avatar

Sal M.

Yelp
Outstanding seating area, very welcoming and humble to spend time here. Staff was wonderful and informative, wine selection was so good and refreshing, the cheese and cold cut plates complimented our wine very well. Hope to be back this year to enjoy wine and appetizers under the beautiful patio area. Staff is very informative on what they offer, it was such a great experience that they took their time to sit down with us and chat.

Yelp
Even though I'm a beer snob, I'll never turn down the delicious wine from Roche Vineyards! This was the first stop on my tour of Napa / Sonoma and it was my favorite by far. Not only are the people here down-to-earth and friendly, but the red and whites are both so superb that you'll wish you were drinking the whole bottle instead of merely sampling. My favorite part about this place is the generous pours during the tasting. I received a red wine pour that literally filled up half of my glass - to which I gratefully accepted and promptly drank it all!
google avatar

Floy K.

Yelp
This is our favorite winery that we have visited so far! It is super cute and they have an excellent selection of Chardonnay and Rose', my favorites, in addition to some excellent reds. Our sommelier was very friendly and made our tasting experience a lot of fun. It's a beautiful setting. We also ordered the Brie plate and it was really good - so many of those are not. Also, the prices are reasonable.

Yelp
Lizzie was a phenomenal hostess for our wine tasting. A delicious tasting, we bought a few bottles. Wonderful charcuterie board.
google avatar

Emily F.

Yelp
We loved their outdoor seating area! So spacious and pretty. Their wines were good and I enjoyed that they had some sweet dessert wines which is unique for tastings in the area. It was a nice hands off tasting experience with time to enjoy the company and the server was also very knowledgeable about the wine.

Sam M.

Yelp
I attended a wine tasting and found that certain staff members give extremely small pours. They say you can try any wine at the end in their relaxing area however when I asked for the rose, Anita declined because she said they're running low and our tour is coming to an end. I found the running low part hilarious because they own a whole winery.

Painless D.

Yelp
What a fabulous place. The layout is wonderful. The staff and the wine was amazing. They have multiple Pinot Noir's to pick from. The Tipperary is the best in my opinion. We are biased. The Cabernet , Merlot and Chardonnay are great as well. Laurie is a gem and so helpful and knowledgeable in the wine field.
google avatar

William S.

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal wine, great atmosphere. Surprisingly sophisticated, yet very approachable. Really enjoyed the experience, there were even camels in the vineyard, what more could you ask for? Ended up buying a few bottles of wine, looking foreword to my next trip!
google avatar

Holly L.

Yelp
We didn't intend to come here. We were meeting someone who was running late, and they said to wait at the neighboring winery and they'd serve us a glass of wine on the house as we waited for their arrival at a neighboring property. It was an interesting thing to do, but we went with it. The grounds were beautiful, and we were met with staff who were on the lookout for us. They were near closing time, so I was expecting them to shoo us. But they (especially Kate and Sidney) were kind and accommodating and even asked what our favorite wines were, and my partner tasted a few. I didn't feel like drinking alcohol, and they offered me apple juice instead. In the end, my partner enjoyed one of the pinot noir offerings that we got a bottle. We would definitely come back, and this time, on purpose and for longer than 30 minutes.
google avatar

Maggie C.

Yelp
Nice outdoor ambiance here. Beautiful scenery and dog friendly. Soooooo many flies though. We were swatting them away every 30 seconds. Wine was good. I think it could've been nice if the server explained the wine options a bit more. Pours could have been more generous too imho. Overall a great experience. Highly rec the muscat sweet wine!
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
I took my mom and auntie here for a pre-dinner drink and we had a great time. The service was fantastic and the wine was good. This location downtown makes it a great additional stop to any outing.

Taylor H.

Yelp
Beautiful location, wonderful wine! We shared the select and reserve tasting and enjoy them! Lori was fantastic and friendly, she let us relax and take our time enjoying our wine. Can't wait to return, thanks Lori!

Michelle H.

Yelp
Enjoy the experience at Roche, had a beer and a glass of wine and a tasty charcuterie board. The outdoor area is very serene for being in the middle of town. Great place to visit try it out.
google avatar

Francheska O.

Yelp
We came here on a winery tour from San Francisco. We went to three wineries. Of the three, this was the best by far. The people there were fun and engaging. Every wine was smooth and light. I'm not a big fan of red wine and I loved both the red wines they gave me. The real star of the winery is the Tamarix. I have never had a wine like this. The bottles we ordered arrived today and I couldn't be happier. I have no doubt I will be ordering more bottles from this winery.
google avatar

Evan W.

Yelp
"Usually people don't like thinking too much about what they want to drink, they just want to drink." Reserve Merlot, - how many cases? "Oh a shit ton!" Actual quotes from the staff. Maybe educate the staff to tell the story of the wine and then let the customer decide whether they want to think about the wine, or just drink. Extra star for atmosphere and food!
google avatar

neha p.

Yelp
Beautiful setting and great for groups! Lots of covered seating, you can get wine by the glass, bottle or a flight of four. They have a few choices for food... we got the dip platter and it was good but not amazing. Still I was super glad to have the option!!! Making a reservation was very easy... we called but I think you can do it online as well. I only knock it down a star because it felt too commercial for me, and I prefer wineries with a bit more soul (like Robledo next door! Try it out!)
google avatar

Boris G.

Yelp
The winery offers 4 wines for tasting and demands 1 hour of a time for such "Experience". Because of this "Brilliant" idea, they stop testing at 4:00pm (which is 1 hour before they close at 5:00pm). After 4:00pm they offer you to buy a glass of wine instead. Glass of which wine shouldI buy? I did not taste any of their wines yet! And I never will! Kyle, the manager, was extremely unprofessional. Just a whinging toddler
google avatar

Eva H.

Yelp
Meh! They didn't greet me, so I walked up to the indoor bar expecting to get a tasting. Only one customer in there on a Sunday, no greeting. So I walk up to the back bar, checked myself in, so they said have a seat and I'll bring menus. After waiting 10 minutes, I look and she's chatting w a co worker obviously forgot about me. So I walked out. Place looks nice except for the thousand flies and poor service- but they lost me forever. Never again.
google avatar

Eliza D.

Yelp
Wow....you will not be disappointed. Came here on a grey lines bus tour of Sonoma and Napa valley wineries and the staff was so welcoming and generous. Not only did they give us a great history of the winery, they also showed us around in small groups since they were bottling onsite and had an open tasting bar for us. The setting was absolutely lovely with plenty of shade and seating. Definitely add this to your list of spots to visits
google avatar

Twi T.

Yelp
This winery is the most family friendly winery we have been to so far. It is off the main road so it is not very crowded and far from the traffic bustle. Outdoor tasting around tables with fire pits, great snack collection to go with the wines, beautiful atmosphere. Their wines are DELICIOUS! 5 stars for service too. We had three little kids in our party who were quite active, instead of policing them around the folks there gave them a basket of toys and sure enough they were glued to their seats the entire time! We bought lots of wines after the tastings (they have lots of award winners in their menu) and also purchased a membership. Will surely be back again.
google avatar

Yelp
The beautiful, new location for Roche Winery is stunning and thank you, Jonathan! You made us feel like the winery was open for a special event just for us. The breezy, easy Covid-friendly environment made us linger and the award-winning 2017 Chardonnay Carneros was a delight to discover. I've never cared much for Chardonnay so I had no expectations, but it was the first wine in the tasting flight and then all I could think about afterwards. I walked away with a bottle in each hand, excited to bring my discovery home and surprise my friends. Tip - Visit on a Tuesday, like we did. There was plenty of room to choose the best seat, relax, and take in the views. Oh, and say "Hi" to Jonathon for me ;)
google avatar

Nikhil D.

Yelp
Beautiful ambience. We visited with family including an infant and we had a great time. We booked in advance since it was a busy weekend. Service was good. They also have a shop where you can buy cheese, crackers etc. The wines and the experience overall was good.

Jesus M.

Yelp
The wine tasting experience which is $30 per person that includes 4 different wines is a total rip off. It does not even amount to a single glass of wine all together, and the experience and service was alright. Overpriced wine tasting. You're better off buying 4 bottles if you're a party of 4+ The server didn't even give us the option to do so, she immediately served us the overpriced tasting service.
google avatar

Erin H.

Yelp
What a special place! Not only is the wine amazing, but the friendly service and ambience was truly something memorable. Dog friendly is a major plus. Shout out to Debbie - thanks for making our visit so amazing!
google avatar

Ankita R.

Yelp
We went here on memorial day weekend. Was able to get a last minute reservation. The winery is super pretty and the staff is very friendly and awesome. Instead of opting for the tasting, we decided to share a bottle of wine and have some food to pair with it. The brut rose was very refreshing. For the food they have limited options so we decided to order the trio tasting plate that comes with a few dips, veggies and crackers. I felt this was a bit pricey as the quantity and the quality of this plate was not on par with the price. Towards the end of our drinking session we went for a stroll in the vineyards. It is very cute and we could even see the neighbors camels, donkeys and horses from there. That was a pleasant surprise. Overall we had a very enjoyable experience.

Yelp
This place is an undiscovered gem! Having tasted at hundreds of California wineries over the years we were very impressed by the experience at this basically brand-new winery! We visited Roche on a Thursday afternoon for a 1:00p reservation and ended up staying for 4 hours! We were extremely lucky and had the entire winery to ourselves due to a cancelled bus group, which was awesome because we were celebrating an engagement with close friends. Being in our early 30's we're somewhat accustomed to second-rate service in the Napa/Sonoma wineries but Jonathan went above and beyond to make sure we had a memorable time. The entire winery layout is perfect for social distancing requirements, and Jonathan did a wonderful job of communicating the rules and expectations for COVID safety during our experience. Masks were requested to be worn at all times except when seated and tasting at the table, and every little detail about the transfer of wine glasses, sanitizing tables, etc, was thoughtful. Our 1yr old daughter is high risk and so we noticed and appreciated these details. I can't guarantee that your experience will be as personal as ours was (having the place to ourselves) but I will HIGHLY recommend the Roche vineyard winery to all my family and friends visiting the Sonoma/Napa area and looking for a great COVID tasting experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Always on points with great staff and wines. The winery is a charming setting away the the hustle and bustle of the downtown Sonoma.

Yelp
As we arrived on our tour bus the hosts at Roche were so friendly and inviting. We learned about how the wine is made and processed. The property was beautiful and the wine was amazing! Wine club is worth it!!
