Disappointing Experience at Rock ‘n’ Roll Sushi – Padre Island I rarely take the time to write reviews, but my recent visit to Rock ‘n’ Roll Sushi on Padre Island was such a letdown, I feel compelled to share. To start, the vegetarian sushi roll I ordered was by far the worst I’ve ever had. It arrived smothered in a mound of old seaweed salad, clearly an attempt to cover the visibly brown, oxidized avocado underneath. One bite confirmed my suspicion—it tasted metallic, almost like rust. Fresh ingredients are the bare minimum at a sushi bar, and this was unacceptable. While waiting a staggering 20 minutes for a single cocktail, I couldn’t help but notice the lack of professionalism behind the sushi bar. Staff stood around laughing while dishes piled up and guests waited. The atmosphere behind the counter felt chaotic and careless, not what you’d expect from a place that charges full price for subpar food and service. To be fair, our server was pleasant, though clearly overwhelmed and working without adequate support. The bar itself looked like the end of a long, messy night—glasses stacked, no bar staff in sight, and not a manager to be found. Nothing was taken off the bill, no apologies were offered, and no one seemed remotely concerned about the guest experience. In short: avoid this location. There are far better spots on the island where you’ll be served fresh food with at least a modicum of pride.

I went here Sept.24. The waitress saw us watching my employee on camera at my shop. We all joked about the fact that she was sitting down and on her phone yet she was ignoring my texts. So I said “watch this.” And I activated the alarm. My employees know that when I do that it means get up and look at my text. And she did. A few minutes later I get a phone call and little did the caller know that my cell phone is my shop number. She thought she was speaking to my employee and she told her (Me) that her bosses were at the sushi restaurant nearby and they were watching her on camera, which seems like an invasion of her privacy and that we were so annoying and she just wanted her to know that she was being watched on camera. I asked the bartender for a manager and she said she was the manager. I told her what just happened and she said “I will discuss this with her after her shift.” I said why don’t you discuss it now and then I paid my bill and left, even though we had not had our main course yet. On the way out, I told the waitress I hope she doesn’t find counting my money to be annoying. And then the bartender shouted across the restaurant “stop harassing my employee!” Everyone at the bar turned around and watched me walk out the door. Unbelievable. I then looked at the Facebook page and saw the long message from the previous owner. Now I see why that restaurant is the way it is.

We sat down to get sushi and ordered an appetizer. Waited an hour and had to ask at the front about the food and if we could order now. Appetizer did not come until twenty minutes after that. No one came to check on us or refill our drinks at all. Food was really good but the service was so bad and prepare for a long long stay for a small amount of sushi. Was so bad I’m writing this review. Oh and another twenty minutes for the check after we asked for it how fun. Chef was great no notes

So we decided to go here for dinner. The parking lot was packed, and we thought that the crowd was for the other restaurants surrounding this place. No it wasn't. We walked in and the place was full of people. The hostess asked if we had reservations, we didn't, and we began to worry that we wouldn't get to eat here. In the end they made room for us and sat us down. The place has a couple of options for the people who don't like seafood, so there are options. The place has rolls that had names of rock and roll bands or artists. I ordered the dark side of the moon. Another person ordered the Rainbow and a 3rd ordered a roll with beef and shrimp. The 4th person ordered a slider and fries. Let me say that all looked amazing and all tasted great. The rolls were bigger than I expected. We will definitely make it back here to try other rolls. Pictures don't do it justice, but I will post them anyways.

I rarely ever put reviews on restaurants but after this experience I felt like I needed to. We came for a birthday dinner, our server darian was off putting, short, and disengaged. We never received refills and when we received something we didn’t order we were met with an attitude telling us thats what I heard. Our server was more preoccupied with their bigger table rather than their other tables which only showed us she cared more about making money off that big party. Very disappointed for our first experience based off service. Only gave two stars because the food was good.

Over the years I have made reservations where I had to still wait 20 to 30 minutes to be sat, waited a good 45 minutes to an hour every single time for food to make it to the table even in the off season, they never seem to be able to answer a phone when you call to make reservations or ask questions, the food is great but honestly all the other factors make it not even worth eating here especially considering how expensive it is. I literally just go next door to Costa Sur, which is one of my favorite places to eat on the island anyways. They are right next door, cheaper, faster, just as good, great ambiance inside, have great drink specials, and offer way more interesting items including sometimes sushi.

Chef David Lee gave my Partner and I an exclusive off-menu dining experience to showcase his incredible restaurant. We made reservations, which I highly recommend to anyone as the establishment isn’t large and is very popular in Corpus Christi, especially for those living on Padre Island. Upon arrival we were greeted by the friendly staff and seated and we ordered cocktails. Chef Lee joined us at the table and kindly spoke with us for a while, then recommended sending various dishes out. We agreed to that, and the culinary journey lasted for the next couple hours with our server presenting great dishes. The various creations are included in the pictures. Chef Lee isn’t always at this spot because he has other establishments he runs, so we were treated to a very exclusive opportunity to try his wonderful creations. I highly recommend Rock & Rolls. Enjoy the photos.

Yelp
Closes at 9pm, called @ 8:15pm for a pick up order. Was put on hold for 4 minutes to be told, "It is too late to put in a to-go order" being that it is 40+ minutes before closing, we figured it'd be okay. Be sure to order two hours before closing. Was looking forward to try this little place, too bad for us.

Yelp
How do you say, "there is no better" other than saying, There is NO better! Rock and Rolls is our go to. Out there is no better. Whenever you can, come here. You'll be happy and amazed. The girls who work here have been here forever. We've literally watched them grow up. They will tell you straight away, have this, the chefs feature is spot on, etc. they are true and never lead you astray. Start with hamachi crudo - nothing lighter or tangier! The fish tacos, grilled or fried, SO good. Rolls that never disappoint.. chefs feature is always something worth trying. The menu rolls also are perfect. This is the best meal you'll have in corpus, don't pass on the chance to eat here. Get a reservation NOW!

Yelp
Came here at 8:10 and they refused to service us. Saying the the kitchen was closing. They close at 9. I think its because I have a service dog.. Do not go to this place.

Yelp
These rolls were amazing. They brought me back to life after a day at the beach. I always get a spicy tuna roll when I get sushi. This one was nice because each piece had a nice doll up of spicy mayo. The led zeppelin roll came with crab, cream cheese, spicy baked tuna, and white fish. I never had a sushi roll with white fish on top and it was great!! It made it more of a "hearty" roll which I appreciate because it takes a lot of sushi rolls to fill me up... anyway! 10/10 The abbey road was kinda funky but enjoyable. It came with kastu jalapeño, cream cheese, wakame salad, avocado, sriracha, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. I say it was funky because of the wakame salad- it added a weird texture but I liked it. (Wakame = seaweed) Overall, this place was great and the happy our prices cannot be beat

Yelp
Here's a sharp, savvy, and professional-sounding review that communicates your experience clearly and powerfully: Disappointing Experience at Rock 'n' Roll Sushi - Padre Island I rarely take the time to write reviews, but my recent visit to Rock 'n' Roll Sushi on Padre Island was such a letdown, I feel compelled to share. Yelp
If you love sushi, this is the place to go! We had so much, I can't remember it all. It all tasted great and we even got a sushi virgin to try some and he loved it! The waitress gave us some hot saki for my birthday, very authentic. We finished off the night with some fried ice cream that was delicious! We will definitely be back when we're in town again. Great service and even better food!

Yelp
Hard to find parking. Definitely a "locals" place. Always busy. We relocated here three years ago and looked forward to trying the local sushi. We ate there a couple of times the first year.

Yelp
Good Sushi....place lives up to its name, rock and roll blares throughout the restaurant.

Yelp
Great sushi and wonderful happy hour. Nice wine selection. Good idea to make reservations. We always go when we are on the island.

Yelp
Dinner started off well, the drinks we ordered were nice. Apps were good. As a party of 4, 3 people got their entrees at the same time and it was a 20 minute wait for the last person to get their dinner. The waitress confessed she forgot to ring in that order and was less than apologetic. Another person ordered a completely vegan roll (welcome to the jungle roll) and it came with cheese in it. It took a while to track down our waitress to notify her and she said "the chef likes to throw items into rolls sometimes", why would a chef go off the menu? Guests are choosing a roll based on the description, expecting those specific ingredients. Overall the rolls were okay but the service was awful. We won't be back.

Yelp
Love, love, love this sushi place! My husband and I discovered it a few years ago while visiting family in Corpus Christi. We're avid sushi eaters and consider this place one of the best places we've ever tried! The sushi recipes are fun and adventurous and DELICIOUS! Wait staff has always been very pleasant, bartenders are very attentive as well! Check this place out!

Yelp
So, we decided to give this place a second chance since my boyfriend swore up and down it was that good. While we weren't denied service this time, we were told we only had 15 minutes to order, even though we arrived at 8:45 and Google says they close at 10.
google avatar

Daniel C.

Yelp
Steer clear unless you have 3 hours to wait for 3 rolls. Never had a chance to taste the food.
google avatar

Gabby L.

Yelp
I said about 10x while I was eating "mmmm this sushi is soo good, good find so happy we ate here" and also there was not a crumb left on the plates between me, my hubby & stepson. I don't remember what I ordered it was all so good haha. We got three appetizers & 6 rolls.
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
The vibe of the restaurant was so fun! After a day of being at the beach, the lighting and music was perfect. Staff was amazing at sitting us and taking care of us! We got ordered three rolls and shared & they were amazing. I loved how everything was rock n roll themed! 10/10, would come back during my next visit to the beach.

Yelp
Heard raving reviews about this place and always see a full parking lot so had to check it out! Didn't have a reservation on a Friday night so we showed up right at opening (5 pm) which I recommend, because there were a bunch of other people with the same idea. Sat at the bar which my husband was happy about because the games were on. We took advantage of a lot of happy hour deals (until 6pm) - $5 wine, $7 gyoza, $1 off classic rolls and $2 off signature rolls. Everything was delicious. Worth the ~30 min wait. I recommend making a reservation, if not, then get there early!

Yelp
We are avid fishermen from the hill country who spend a chunk of our time on the island from April-September. Been wanting to try rock & roll sushi for quite sometime based on friend's recommendations. We usually do our regular seafood spots near the marinas but my husband and I had the opportunity to date night here last night. The strawberry tuna appetizer with goat cheese and fried garlic was absolutely amazing we ended up ordering 2 of them!!! I don't remember the rolls we got but they were all incredible- and we're picky AF sushi eaters!!! Our cocktails were also great- loved the mojito!!! The manager (also female sushi chef) is so sweet. To see a female on the sushi line is AWESOME. Glad to see sushi places investing in women in the kitchen. Sushi is such an art and more women should get into this respected art! We went on a Monday night and they were slammed- definitely recommend making a reservation if you can ahead of time because clearly these guys are popular for good reason!! Overall amazing experience and excited to have a new local sushi spot for when we spend our summers/ falls on the island!

Barron H.

Yelp
Shocking that something this amazing is only two minutes from our house. As with all restaurants on North Padre Island, not nearly enough parking for the people knocking down the doors to eat here!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Lee, let me tell you... the first time I met you, you gave my husband MY reaper roll.... After the hubby and I figured out what happened, he got the look ... I mean, if looks could kill, type of look lol (Had to share). Just want to say that we always make our way to see you guys when we are in town because the awesome ambiance, food, and drinks!!! We REALLY appreciate how you all take care of us. You don't know this but we are celebrating our 20yrs wedding anniversary and y'all didn't disappoint. We thank y'all for all you do!!! This will continue to be our go to spot! All: safest thing to do is RSVP!!! Otherwise, you chance not having a table or waiting a bit (unless theirs space at the bar, which is just as great) After 6-7pm, parking def may become an issue but can be easily solved as long as you're creative (so to speak) Off the top of my head we've ordered Fish Tacos Garlic Edamame (Each couple that sat next to us has this and always loved it) Spicy Tuna Roll Stevie Ray Roll The Led Zeppelin The Stevie Ray Bad Company Martini (Both cucumber and watermelon) Luckenbach Texas Mule Strawberry Fields Blueberry Mojito Rock & Rolls Lemonade (Blueberry) Don't Fear The Reaper Pork Gyoza Let it Ride Californication Dragon WHEN We have room for dessert Tempura Fried Icecream Looking forward to trying out more of the menu (can't seem to lay off our favs lol)

Yelp
If you are on Padre Island and like sushi, you need to come here. We came pretty late and we're able to find a bar spot to eat and drink. Not sure if we would be able to find a spot if we came earlier, so I would recommend making a reservation. Every roll we had was a rock n roll theme and super tasty! Check out the menu for some cool names. We had the Stevie Ray Roll, Driftaway Roll, Eel and Salmon Nigiri and the Tempura Fried Ice Cream. I would order all of them again, but with how good they were I would also like to try a few more as I know it would be worth it. The bartender did a great job and made our night a blast. The ambience and music was great and would definitely come back again.

Yelp
We absolutely love this place for so many reasons. Whether you're doing a big party or you're going out with a for a special romantic dinner with your loved one, the atmosphere can handle it all. The food is consistently good and the staff is wonderful. We make it a point to visit at least once or twice a week.

Cracker Y.

Yelp
The staff is amazing and best service Reservations are recommended but not always required
google avatar

Stacy J.

Yelp
The food here is absolutely amazing. The service is quick and the ambiance is upbeat. I have eaten here many times and never been disappointed. Get there when they open or be sure and call for a reservation. The parking is absolutely awful and you may have to park along the road if you come during peak times. Be sure and try the stuffed avocados. They are absolutely to die for ! The Santana is my favorite roll but beware it is very spicy. I love it but it may not be for you if spicy food is off limits ? The beer is cold and the drinks are a heavy pour Locals love this place and it's a friendly crowd. Even if you are in corpus proper you should make the drive over the bridge and go to 15121 south Padre island drive #101. They open at 5 pm ---so don't go before then !

Yelp
Hands down one of the best sushi restaurants in Corpus Christi highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great atmosphere, service and drinks
google avatar

Michelle J.

Yelp
A very good place to eat. Food was good Our waitress was attentive. Ambience is what you want it to be casual or intimate. You won't be disappointed.

Nathan C.

Yelp
The menu is awesome as is the food and drinks! It's kind of hard to find but once you're inside the atmosphere is great! Rock and Roll themed menu and atmosphere is right up my alley as is the proximity to my condo so I'll definitely be back asap!
google avatar

Chelsea R.

Yelp
It's tucked inside of a tiny strip mall but you will find the most delicious sushi here! Beware it is packed though since this is a local favorite. I would recommend making reservations on a Friday night. We ordered a bunch of rolls and enjoyed every bite. The gyoza was incredible as well! The staff is efficient and friendly and you can tell they are used to the busy crowds and not at all flustered. But the atmosphere was cozy inside and a lot of fun. They have a lot of fun adult beverages as well if you're feeling adventurous. My friend had some girly looking martini drink but I just had wine. The rolls are huge too and you will come out happy and satisfied. This without a doubt was my favorite place to eat at during our beach visit. Lots of variety and just a laid back evening with friends.
google avatar

Yelp
A fun place to hang out, eat sushi and hum along with the restaurant soundtrack. The food is good, the service was great, no complaints really. It gets pretty busy so reservations are definitely recommended. Some folks say it's expensive but keep in mind it's sushi and on the island. I'll be back and Elvis is still in the building.

Teresinha L.

Yelp
Excelente food, service and the best drinks!! The mixologists know what they are doing. The watermelon martinis are the best and the happy hour price is incredible!
google avatar

Yelp
Visited Rock & Rolls on our summer trip to Corpus because we were staying nearby. It's located in a strip mall and you wouldn't think much of it, but actually was very hopping for happy hour and the food is also good. We took advantage of the $2 off specialty rolls during happy hour and ordered the Pinball Wizard (my mom's favorite), the dark side of the moon (my favorite), and the midnight rambler. We also got an order of the shrimp shumai for my toddler, which he seemed to approve of. I wish they had more rolls without cream cheese, but if you love cream cheese and sushi, then this is definitely the place for you. Other than that, we had friendly service, very fast, and good food. Definitely a solid choice for sushi on the island!
google avatar

Casey R.

Yelp
This place is great! The food is incredible, but the portions are a little disappointing. The service is good. The waiters/waitresses were polite and nice to be around and were not a problem. The environment is nice, but the music is a bit loud and annoying. But my dad said the music that they were playing is awesome. This place, overall, was great. Amazing food and I really enjoyed my time here.
google avatar

Yelp
Rock & Sushi??? ... you got me at both at Rock & Rolls Sushi Lounge! I've been hearing about this place for years... well, I finally got into town over Tday 2018 weekend, wanted to meet up with some local friends there. Yes, Michelle made it, Joy left town earlier that day, while another wasn't working behind the bar that night. I missed you Miranda! Happy Hour is where it's at here. Discounts on drinks and rolls. Bloody Mary was fantastic, so I had two! We also had two sushi rolls as well! When I find myself back on the island, I'll be back to Rock my Sushi!
google avatar

Monica M.

Yelp
We had a great time at this funky little spot. We were pretty much the only ones there. We started off with the fried soft shell crab. It was incredible, we even ordered two we enjoyed it so much. The rest of the rolls (four in total and I sadly can't remember all their names except for the Let it Ride, Light my Fire, and the chef's special). The service for the rolls was really slow sadly. And we got some happy hour drinks that were fine but seemed very very weak on the alcohol. We tried the watermelon martini and cucumber martini. Overall the food was tasty but the slow service despite an empty restaurant, and weak drinks was a disappointment. It also was very hard to find rolls that did not have cream cheese in them which I found very odd.

Michael F.

Yelp
Walked in, waited 5min to be greeted. Despite 4 open tables, was told 45 min wait. Walked out. Sandwich shops next door was great

Yelp
So good to see yet another, top-drawer, sushi option here in Corpus Christi. Did a little research on their place before going and found out the owner comes from a very well known family in the Asian cuisine restaurant business. So I went there with high expectations. Well, Rock & Rolls did not disappoint. The one caveat is, make a reservation! The place is small and the parking lot smaller. That said, the service and the food easily make up the difference. The interior is also dark - more pub like than restaurant. But, that's okay. Call it, "intimate." We started off with edamame with the truffle oil and sea salt. Holy cow!! That knocks it out of the park right away! The truffle oil lightly enhances the freshness of the edamame. That and the coarse sea salt made for a perfect starter. I ordered the "Light My Fire" roll. The words "goat cheese" and "serrano" really caught my eye. It came nicely presented, was fresh tasting and oh-so-flavorful. My only disappointment was the size. It's a bit smaller than what you find in other sushi joints for the price. I could've (should've) ordered two of them. But, at $15 each, that just didn't sit well. Again, service is excellent. We were greeted nicely and seated quickly (reservations). Orders taken and served with a smile and continued checks to make sure all was okay. I am eager to go back and try other items on the menu. The prices aren't that much of a deterrent. AND, they do have, what looks like, a hoppin' bar scene. So, that's worth exploring.

Yelp
My wife and I dropped in for sushi. When the waitress brought out our plates, my wife noticed that the soy sauce dish was dirty. With soy sauce hardened to the sides of it. Enough so, that she was able to scrape it off with her finger nail. Anyway, no biggie, my wife very politely asked the waitress to bring a different one. The waitress responded put off and argumentative saying "it's just stained...but sure...I'll bring you a white one " rolls her eyes and walks off. My wife and I were both like wtf... She comes back a few minutes later with a new dish and the same ole bubbly attitude. Setting it down..."here" rolling her eyes again and walking way. Which now this time it was my turn. Which now this time I confronted her about arguing with my wife. Which then she wanted to further argue with me. Which then was a bad judgment call on her part. Which then lead us to leave and go to the Ceviche place right next door. Go to the ceviche spot if you want good service, good energy and very good food. Rock N' Roll sushi is bogus.

Yelp
Try the come together drink and the wait beef tacos, soft shell crab, and the rhapsody of Bohemia for a perfect menu.
google avatar

Yelp
Busy Saturday evening.. I get it..was told it would be an hour to get sushi... ordered our sushi at 8:45 didn't get it until 10:20. We were told it would be awhile but that long? Over an hour and not a huge place, they only had 3 servers and ours was relatively nonattentive. If the only thing you do is sushi, have more staff making the rolls and churning them out. It was decent but not worth 2 hour wait.
google avatar

Eric Y.

Yelp
I looked for a sushi place online and found this one it looked good, so we went to try it, we there and ordered our Rolls and soft shell crab When our food arrived it was nothing like the pictures, the Roll are super small and they didn't have much flavor except for the sauces they put on them, the soft shell crab crab wasn't A crab at all it looks like pieces of crab legs tiny ones that again only tasted like the sauce they put all over it, this place was a real disappointment never again.

Jack T.

Yelp
Called multiple times to make a reservation with no answer and no way to make a voicemail. Arrived and there told that you need to have a reservation.

Yelp
We eat here at least once or twice a week, for years. From drinks, appetizers, sushi it is all fantastic. We have never had a bad meal or bad service. Wouldn't go anywhere else. Enjoy

Yelp
Look no more if you want AMAZING SUSHI! Sushi roll to order: CALIFORNICATION** But not before you order their wagyu steak tacos ( they come with a quail egg on top) I kid you not the best thing I've ever put in my mouth! Edamame with black truffle salt ,, ugh! Then end the night with their nutter butter cheesecake. Their cheesecakes we had several flavors are RIDICULOUS and extravagant! could not be a happier camper after this meal... Our server VALERIE, was a gem! Communicative and proactive! Wish I took pictures of the food because it looked as good as it tastes but my mouth ate first.
google avatar

Yelp
Every aspect of this place is fantastic. Cocktails were wonderful. The watermelon martini hit the spot on a hot day. You won't be disappointed with anything you ordered!! Service was also phenomenal. We will be back the next time we are in town.
google avatar

Samantha L.

Yelp
We got there right at opening and got a seat at the bar. Highly recommend getting there AT 5p or make a reservation. We tried 4-5 different food items and All was sooooo good. We had the nicest bartender. They have a good happy hour drink/food menu. I definitely recommend eating here especially if you like sushi.

Emily D.

Yelp
unfortunately, as a whole, this place does not have very attentive staff. food is wildly overpriced for portion size, drinks are average and also over priced. sushi takes light years to make it from the kitchen to the table. dont expect a table without a reservation and expect your reservation to be undermined in etiquette by the lack of dress code. 2 stars for their bathrooms and the free lotion and our waitress who was very nice and somewhat salvaged the experience for our table.

Teri C.

Yelp
Once again, extraordinary sushi and delicious shrimp shumai. There's nothing like the Maneater roll. Fabulous, the best.
google avatar

Yelp
Won't even mention my favorite because I don't want them to run out! The watermelon martini is delicious and Miranda is so hospitable!

Yelp
*Vibes: The place is very dim, but the atmosphere is great for hangout and meetups. We received great and friendly service from our waitress *Specials: They have Happy Hour on Tues-Fri from 5-7pm. $1 off beer, wine, sake/ $4 house liquor/ $3 off cocktails/ $2 off signature rolls / $1 off classic rolls. They also offer other drink specials not listed on the menu *Food: Started off with the Edamame. Paid extra for the garlic and salt seasoning. If you like it extra salty, this is the app for you! My friend and I was only able to get through half of it since it was too salty for our taste. I was super disappointed with the spicy tuna and pinwheel roll I received. These were the smallest rolls I have ever had! They were itty bitty! Wasn't a fan of the mayo garnish on top of the spicy tuna roll and it didn't have any spicy kick in the tuna. Pinwheel roll was loosely rolled. *Overall: Atmosphere and service was good. Took awhile to get the sushi rolls so defn get an appetizer. If you're looking for quality sushi, this is not the place to go, but it is ideal for someone who likes the nontraditional fusion style.
