Yelp
What was once a highly reliable culinary experience, moist and crispy tasty chicken every time has now become a roll of the dice. Three out of my last 5 visits, the chicken has changed. The crisp is no longer there and the moisture has left the building on this once revered chicken hot spot in Glendale.
Ordered the chicken tenders and fries and no sooner did I dispense my soda, my order was ready. And therein lies the issue. We must assume this place is holding their pre-cooked chicken and fries, and unfortunately, its's zapping the moisture from the meat and transferring it to the no longer crispy coating. Keeping it a certain temperature is not the same as making it to order. Both chicken and fries seemed more like a science experiment than a fresh, crispy concoction that renders you speechless. Or at least drives you to Yelp to write a stellar review as I did 8 months ago.
And for the record, I'd wait 5-7 minutes any day for a made to order, fresh, crispy, juicy chicken tender. That separates the proverbial boys from the men in today's food scene.
While the staff remains consistently friendly, my fear is that they've become taste blind to what once had them at the top of their game. My recommendation for now is to stick with the sandwiches. Each doused with ingredients fighting for attention (like slaw, hot sauce, honey mustard and bacon), you will likely enjoy the overall presentation, as many have, and temporarily forget you actually ordered a fried chicken sandwich. But as someone who professes to be a fried chicken expert, unless something changes in their food prep, and I hope it does, I'd order cautiously and keep your expectations in check. I hope this place continues to have skin in the game and make the necessary adjustments for everyone loves a comeback story and I'd be happy to write it.
