Rock’n Egg Cafe Now Playing the Breakfast Hits in Eagle Rock - Eater LA

"Rock’n Egg is the work of the owners behind Nick’s Cafe in Chinatown. Expect, per the signage, lots of egg dishes, as well as staples like pancakes, breakfast meats, coffee, and sides. Hours run 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, except for Mondays." - Farley Elliott

Wow—this place totally exceeded our expectations! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by not one, not two, but three friendly staff members within seconds. Talk about service! I went with an iced coffee and the Mexicali (chilaquiles with eggs, cheese, and avocado)—so good and full of flavor. My husband had the French toast and gave both plates a solid 5 stars. We’re already planning our next visit to try more dishes!

Google
Cute little restaurant. Extremely happy we stopped for breakfast. There is seating inside, put front, and a covered patio in the back The food was delicious. The portions are large. The service was excellent. We will definitely be back.

Google
What a delightful pocket of goodness! Our go-to brunch spot. The food is stellar, your options are diverse and the service is warm and very welcoming. Their freshly made signature salsa and jams go with just about anything, but I love them on the freshly made biscuits... This place is a sister restaurant of Nick's (in Chinatown) but we come to Rock'n'Eggs simply because we don't feel as rushed or cramped. Weekends are especially redunckulous because the assorted eggs beni are TO DIE FOR. Each week there is a special featured one that is a must try. Only thing you gotta be aware of is that parking can be tricky. Start looking for available street parking before you get to the cafe or turn into one of close residential side streets. You'll appreciate the walk back to your gar after stuffing yourself with all the good food!

The BBQ Tri Tip N Eggs meal was incredibly tasty, I greatly enjoyed the juicy flavor accompanied by my biscuit and gravy, all making for a wonderful meal and a great start to the morning.

We were out in LA for a Lakers game and as always I go to Tik Tok to find good little food places and I came across this place and we had to stop here. The atmosphere was great, service was great, they offered coffee and water well you wait, we sat outside to eat and it was a little busy which was expected. The food was amazing my husband got the country breakfast and this was by far the best biscuits and gravy we have ever tried, I got the Chilaquiles the serving size was huge and they very so good.We can’t wait to come and try other options. We are from Barstow and we can’t wait to come back and bring our kids. Definitely recommend!!!!

Google
Wow, this morning I was in Eagle rock for work when I was looking for a breakfast spot. I went on Yelp and found this place. amazing service. The server was one of the coolest guys I’ve ever met in my life. I ordered a few different items and they were all delicious. I love the brisket and eggs, the pumpkin pancakes were special and they were amazing. I need to come back next time. I am in the area. Definitely recommend everyone to come here

Google
Excellent food, coffee, and muffins. Homemade tomato preserves and salsa are insanely good. Service was stellar. Carne Asada breakfast burrito, French toast, onion rings.. all super. High recommend.

Google
This is the 3rd time I have come to this amazing establishment. From being welcomed to the "see you next time"( associate remembered me) has been great. My son and I now think of making it a bi-weekly outing for us since he loved it as well. My son is picky, but he feels comfortable and ate the majority of his food. A win for me if you ask me! :) All the cool posters and photographs got my son intrigued and entertained as well. Thank you to all the members. They were friendly and patient and provided an overall, great experience.

Yelp
I travel to LA to visit family pretty regularly and I enjoy trying out the diners around when I get the chance. This one stood out. Of course, the food is wonderful! Feels like they care in the kitchen, and they have a homey/ familial vibe. Our server Jeff was the cherry on top of it all- he was quick, personable, professional, and courteous. Honestly his humor and efficiency took it from a meal to a great experience! Definitely coming back! (and will take pics next time, too!)

Yelp
I seen a foodie post a review of this restaurant on IG so I decided to bring my son and mom here for brunch. I would definitely arrive as early as possible because parking is limited on the street and we waited about an hour to be seated. Thankfully the restaurant provides complimentary water and coffee while you wait so I definitely appreciate that! The host also provided menus before were seated so we could get ahead of the ordering process which I also appreciated. Once we were seated, our drink orders were taken immediately and we placed our order fairly quickly. The service was absolutely phenomenal, our waiter and the host were super friendly and made sure our experience was amazing. I ordered the Egg combo with Applewood Chicken sausage which came with hash browns and sourdough toast. My eggs were cooked perfectly, the sausage had great flavor and the hash browns were perfectly cooked. My son ordered the Pan San which came with 3 huge pancakes topped with strawberries, eggs and hash browns. He absolutely devoured his meal with my help! My mother ordered the grilled Pork Chops which came with hash browns, eggs and toast. She was very satisfied with her combo. I saw they offered fresh baked muffins and I had to try a blueberry muffin and I definitely didn't regret it! The muffin was super moist and the ends had the perfect crisp, definitely one of the best muffins I've had in a long time. The waiter brought it before our meals and he added a lit candle for a sweet touch. Definitely order the muffins! I HIGHLY recommend checking this restaurant out, you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Guys this place did not disappoint! First time for me and hubby but definitely not the last. Food: 5 stars I ordered the California Scramble with almost everything in it. So good and their portions are generous! The hash browns were perfectly crisp and seasoned. Hubby ordered the eggs combo and he really enjoyed the sausage. We shared a waffle just to try it and it was delicious! Service: 5 stars We were welcomed warmly right when we walked in. The place was warm and cozy. Jeff and the crew were so welcoming and the holiday ham samples were delicious! So everyone put your thanksgiving order in! Ambience: 5 stars Like I mentioned, the inside is warm and cozy and all the other diners were enjoying their companies, food and conversations. Thank you and we will be back to try the rest of the menu lol. Best regards, Mike and Anna

Yelp
Sometimes you just need good diner food. Rock N Egg is great diner food. We sat outside because we had our dog with us but the waiter was still attentive and we got everything super fast. I ordered eggs benedict, the ultimate diner food. It was DELICIOUS and hard to not lick the plate. My husband got a skillet covered in gravy which was also really tasty. We aren't talking about a light meal but solid, delicious diner meal!

Yelp
A seriously delicious breakfast option in sleepy Eagle Rock. There are many breakfast restaurants in Eagle Rock and I would say this is certainly one of the best. They have huge sized portions, fair pricing, and polite staff. They don't have a dedicated parking lot, however street parking is very easy to find in this part of town because the neighborhood behind the restaurant doesn't have permit parking. Most of the seating are outdoor tables however we chose to sit inside for our first visit. Our server was very polite and was very quick with all the refills. They have a very large menu filled with all sorts of classic and unique breakfast options. Eggs Benedict is my favorite breakfast dish so I was very pleased to see that they have a dedicated page in their menu to 8 different Benedicts and there is a constant rotation of seasonal or weekly available Benedict. For my meal, I chose one of the weekend only Benedicts and thought it was fantastic. I chose the Huaraches Benedict and truly loved it. The eggs were cooked perfectly, it was covered in delicious sauce, and the Carne Asada was seasoned perfectly and was a great addition to the dish. The side of hashbrowns was also really good and I prefer them much more than the cheaper home fries other restaurants give you. Overall, I would say this is one of my favorite breakfast spots in Eagle Rock and I plan to be back in the future to try more items. I would suggest to anyone no matter if you have a large or small group, they will be able to make sure you have a great meal.

Yelp
Amazing foood and amazing service, me and my girlfriend were so happy coming to eat out! Our server Jeff was super attentive and quick when we needed and made us feel like a true guest.

Yelp
I really liked my breakfast combo of chicken apple sausage and eggs with hash browns. The eggs and hash browns were perfectly fried not overdone. The chicken apple sausage seems like they made the patty from scratch. Deliciously tender!!! My sister didn't like her French toast stating it was too bready and the wrong bread apparently. My dad loved his grand Avenue omelette. Rock'n Egg is generous with portions too!!! Can't wait to try more of their menu!!!

Yelp
Located on eagle rock Blvd parking can be a challenge only street and did not see a lot. The location is decent sized inside with some out door tables. The host was friendly. Our waitress seemed preoccupied. So that was bummer seems inconsistent. I ordered the hash Benedict's which were really good but the potatoes were too burnt and not seasoned. The sausage and eggs were just ok, potatoes were asked to be crispy but came out soggy. I really wanted to love this place but it's just ok. I found it from a tixtoker review but looked better than irl.

Jordan L.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my experience at this place. I wasn't sure to get but the server Jeff was a big help and suggested the California scramble and it was a great choice for my dietary restrictions. The food was excellent and the service as well. I'll be back.

Yelp
The food is really delicious. Their service is far and beyond friendly and warm. This is not your typical cheap hole-in-the-wall spot. Their prices are on par with the high quality of service and food. If you want to pay less, go to a lesser spot.

Yelp
Nick's Cafe! Rock' n Egg Cafe is the sister restaurant/diner to Nick's Cafe that's been opened since 1948! The same Nick's Cafe on the outskirts of LA's Chinatown. Yay! I got their specialty "famous ham & eggs" combo and that thing was HUGE! Definitely enough for two people! Pancakes were fluffy and delicious too! Don't forget the house made salsa - a must. The menu here has many options for breakfast and lunch. All-American with Mexican inspired fare with a modern twist would be how I described the menu here. I dig it! Staff and owner are friendly down to earth people. Ambiance is cozy. Parking: Street Only. Payment: Cash and Credit accepted.

Yelp
The food was amazing!!! It has a homey and welcoming feel to it from staff to ambience. After leaving a very rude diner up on Colorado Blvd., this place made me feel so much better! You never know why someone is coming in to share a meal, to meet with a friend, to seek comfort, or just a delicious home cooked style meal. I did not feel rushed, my coffee cup stayed full and hot, and left with a belly full of good food and a smile. This place NEVER disappoints.

Yelp
Breakfast was excellent. Great and fast service. Jeff and the lady ( I forgot her name) with him were really nice and helpful! Definitely coming back, great place.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast plates! Sharable portions for sure. This is a kid's meal. Kids Pan San (Hot Cakes) Our toddler approves!

Yelp
I've never wanted to write a review more then I do now. A friend of ours recommended this place for their Chilaquiles so we drove 45 minutes to try it out. We initially came in and it was busy so we had a short wait (about 15 min) and then we were seated by Jeff. Jeff this review is 99% because of you. Jeff seated us and had the most genuinely nice smile. If you want to have great food and leave feeling amazing, go to Jeff. He makes you feel like "familia" We had small talk and the whole time he smiled and was incredibly cool. We left knowing we would be coming back! Thanks Jeff! I don't want to take away from the food, the chilaquiles were incredible and the pancakes could feed a whole army! lol... our total bill with 2 coffees, apple juice and a side of sausage was under $40 and you can't beat that! Make sure to check them out!

Yelp
This spot is a hole in the wall. It's a small little establishment that has multiple food options for both breakfast & lunch. Customer service aims to be their top priority; that is one thing that stood out. Our server greeted us right away the minute we walked in & was noticeably full of enthusiasm and energy. He was knowledgeable when it came to the menu which is essential for a business to succeed. Unfortunately, he was also forgetful because when we finished our first cup of coffee, he took the mugs away and let us know he would be back with some more. However, this was not the case. He never brought back the coffee on his own. It was only until I asked 15 minutes later for a "status on those coffees", that he remembered and rushed to go get them & brought them within seconds. In regard to the food, I ended up settling for some Pork Loin Chops in Spanish Sauce with HashBrowns, Eggs & Sourdough Toast. My friend ended up getting Green Chilaquiles with Roast Beef on top. The Pork chops were a bit salty while the hash-browns were smothered with butter to the point where it left melted butter on my plate after I finished the hash-browns. For the chilaquiles, my friend stated how the "roast beef was bland and flavorless". Cleanliness would be their biggest area to improve on since the cutlery had water stains giving a dirty aspect. Furthermore, I would suggest their restroom gets a more thorough cleaning as well as improved lighting to give it a newer/cleaner appearance. I know most of the reviews have this spot as being one of the best but ultimately it is just a solid 6/10 with their biggest highlight being the friendliness of their staff.

Yelp
Me, my father, and Uncle went to have Breakfast this morning & it was Awesome! I had the meatloaf breakfast, my God!!! Meatloaf eggs, and potatoes. How can you go wrong? Great service. Nowadays, it's hard to get great service anywhere, but I felt like I was at home. And that home sauce is second to none.

Yelp
I ordered to go for my daughter and I. Fresh squeezed Oj and banana juice. Delicious. I should have ordered 2. My daughter was disappointed her juice didn't make it back. I had the French toast combo with eggs and bacon. And for my daughter. Which I ordered for her just so I could try it, I'm sure she would have ordered something different.. Turned out Lemon poppy pancakes combo with eggs and bacon with a side of biscuits and gravy and Hawaiian sausage. Delish. . The biscuits are unique looking but taste traditional and great. Eggs were cooked perfect but I'm more of a overdone type and preferably everything including bacon. Crispy. Will be back again for sure.

Yelp
The service was absolutely fantastic! The food could have been better unfortunately. A very cute neighborhood brunch spot, but will probably not be back.

Yelp
Currently reheating my burrito because that's how big it was! It's definitely the best I have and will continue coming here from now on. I will definitely recommending all my friends this place. Also the staff is very friendly and warm! I order to go and it was ready in less than 10 minutes.

Darren M.

Yelp
For a place with a name that implies that they specialize in eggs my scrambled eggs came out in a solid clump of egg. The seasoned hash browns had no flavor at all and although there was a decent amount of bacon it too was without any flavor. Plus my simple bacon and eggs cost me more than having the same at Botegga Louis .... Insane pricing here for sub sub sub par food in a true hole in the wall place with absolutely zero style or charm. Norm's diner beats this place hands down.
google avatar

Jim B.

Yelp
We tried this place today and we ordered breakfast. They have an extensive menu. It's a very small restaurant and parking is limited. We ordered the West Coast eggs Benedict and it was great. We added a side of bacon (crispy) and it was cooked perfectly. We would definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
To start if you have been to Nicks and can not find parking come to eagle rock while no lot they have street parking. The zone directly in front is 15 minutes only so pull ahead or drop back for one hour parking . I stopped for lunch they are open until 2 pm They have burgers melts sandwiches and several specials not to mention specials. Most items were at a twenty dollar and up price point They still have some sunrise specials in the 15 dollar range. They have out door seating and. Patio in back. You can order to go and this location does take cards and pay with your phone. I had the tri tip which came with fries chili and salad it was good. The tri tip was a bit dry the chili is more of a ground beef type but Al was good Alma did a great job on serving .

Yelp
We stopped here for a quick breakfast before heading to the beach. It's a small place and was busy when we got there but thankfully there was a table available. Staff was busy and wore many hats but still managed to keep up with everything. I ordered the Cali scramble with ham and hash browns. The hubby got the breakfast burrito and a fruit bowl. The food came out quickly. I loved my meal. Perfect amount of ingredients in the scramble. The homemade jam for the toast was sooooo good. On the menu the burrito was supposed to have onion and green peppers. However it didn't come like that. The fruit bowl also didn't come with what it said it did on the menu. He got up to double check the menu because he thought maybe he was wrong. The waitress came over to ask him if everything was ok and she acknowledged that the menu isn't correct for some items. Knowing this it would be nice if they told customers at the time they are ordering. we were on a bit of a time crunch so he ate what he got, and it was good he said, he just wished they said something while he was ordering because he probably would have ordered differently. I took a star off for that.

Yelp
I'm so glad I finally checked this place out. They serve the best biscuits I've had in LA. But it does not stop there. They have a really solid breakfast menu featuring southwest fair, abundant eggs benedict choices, and of course french toast and pancake platters. Also, the service is excellent. Generous portions and friendly servers. Shout out to Jeff for putting the Rock'n in "Rock'n Egg Cafe!"
google avatar

Joyce L.

Yelp
If you're in the mood for an American diner breakfast, this is your spot. It's no fuss. It's cozy. And there's plenty of street parking which is nice for the LA area. My brother and I came on a Wednesday around noon and it was chill. The menu is quite extensive with some specials as well. He ordered a machaca skillet while I had the mini country plate. Very generous portions. Both were quite large (even though mine was under "Light Eaters"). He ended up taking half to go. My country plate had good ratio of egg, sausage patty, and biscuit. Their service was attentive and staff was super friendly! They gave us a free muffin for coming in and supporting.

Mike K.

Yelp
What a phenomenal breakfast place. Family owned. The most attentive staff ever in a joyful, genuine way. The ham melts in your mouth. Try the grilled blueberry muffin too. Huge portions of delicious food. Will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
The food is both delicious and bountiful. But make no mistake, Jeffery is bar none the kindest most accommodating waiter you will ever have- in your life. Go for the food, stay for the hospitality.

Ryan ..

Yelp
I really like this place! Good menu selection and the food is delicious! Although there was a decent amount of people here, the servers were still really attentive. They were very quick to take the order and serve the food. I tried their banana pancakes and a few bites of their breakfast burrito. The pancakes were really tasty and super fluffy. The breakfast burrito was HUGE and really good. They have rotations of their pancake flavors and muffins. I didn't get to try their baked goods but will definitely pick one up next time. There is a large selection of different sauces inside, and the design is really cool! This place is definitely a must try.
google avatar

Yelp
Always a great experience here for breakfast! No complaints about the time to receive the food or the quality. Our server has always been friendly and on the ball making the service quality top notch. We bring our puppy along, so that means we sit outside....no problem! I would recommend this diner to one and all.
google avatar

Ron R.

Yelp
Where have you been all my life? It's shameful that I had to eat that burrito with a fork and a knife. Lifting it was heavy and juicy, and it would tire me out. The food tasted home-cooked. The price is unbelievable for what you get. Where do you see a STEAK burrito for 12 bucks at a sit down that's hefty and actually tasty? Nowhere but here. First timer, but I will definitely be a regular. The staff were awesome. Jeff, Mark, and our server really made it feel like home. It's very nice and cozy inside. It felt like visiting a family member's house. Well see you guys soon!

Yelp
Blueberry French Toast OMG older place lots of charm great service highly recommended for breakfast
google avatar

Mikaela M.

Yelp
Thanks for the awesome service, Jeff!! Great hospitality and food. Highly recommend. I ordered waffles + tri tip brisket and red chilaquiles topped with chorizo! Wish my waffle was a bit crispier, but aside from that, it was super fluffy and delicious. Chilaquiles was super solid! I will be coming back for more!
google avatar

Keith B.

Yelp
Had the ham and cheese omelette with cottage cheese and sourdough toast my wife had Nick's Bagel sandwich with everything and a half biscuit and gravy with order of bacon. The ham is delicious biscuit and gravy is solid could use a bit more gravy. Bacon was good. Cottage cheese was chilled and good. Toast was a bit disappointing and not a normal order of toast (only two slices) sodas are canned coffee was good. The bagel sandwich was good (needed more bacon). Service was great. Food came out fast and well prepared. They have plenty of seating both inside and out. Parking is on the streetOverall I would recommend coming out
google avatar

Dee d.

Yelp
One word: soup Try the split pea or clam chowder. You can't go wrong. Plus, the portion size is giant, so it's good for two meals.
google avatar

Aubrey M.

Yelp
For it's price, I wasn't too much of a fan! Just your typical American Breakfast. We took a risk with their Chilaquiles and it was bland. The chips were soggy and undercooked I got their French Toast combo and it was filling. Again, just a typical American breakfast. The service was great though, we were a party of 9 and they were able to sit us very quickly. They checked in on us often and provided necessary changes when our order didn't come out right. Overall this is a small hidden spot by Eagle Rock, the place was quaint and perfect for a slow morning.
google avatar

Yelp
I highly recommend this restaurant, delicious food, big portions, awesome service, and great ambiance!

Yelp
phenomenal service and the food was delicious! the place is a little small but overall everything was great; i highly recommend this place for breakfast ~

Magno P.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast spot that the locals will enjoy. It is a true gem that is serving traditional and unique breakfast dishes. They have a rotating menu as well as their regular menu. We order items from both. My favorite dish was the smoke Apple sausage mango egg Benedict. I'm not much of a pancake guy but the bananas pancakes are literally bananas. I enjoyed every bite. The chilaquiles were also delicious and the pork Chile verde. The blueberry French toast was also good and the muffin was excellent. The service is fantastic. They bring out the dishes really fast. And the place is nostalgic and very clean. You can eat inside or in the front patio or in their back patio.

Anthony Z.

Yelp
Delicious food and friendly service. I had breakfast here with my son, the chilaquiles are on point! I am not a fan of soggy chilaquiles and these folks nailed it. The tortilla chips had the right balance of salsa to crunch. My son ordered the kids french toast, delicious and a generous portion ( we had enough to take home for his brother and sister to try.) The eggs benedict were also very good. What sets this place apart is the attentive and super friendly service. Highly recommend this place for breakfast.

Yelp
After seeing it on social media, I decided to stop by since I was in the area and I was not disappointed very good tasting food, and the staff was very friendly and gave good recommendations. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Solid breakfast spot. Would try again! The main exciting tale away is there homemade jam!! Yummy! Had a delicious breakfast burrito that was pretty large

Yelp
Five stars for the food and service! Went on a busy Sunday, and still, neither element suffered. We were a large party and were sat in the back. They did everything they could to accommodate us and make us feel comfortable in this heat. Erika was friendly and warm, Johnny was just as attentive and wonderful. They never stopped smiling or showed frustration as hot as it was. The French toast combo was awesome! They use French bread. The biscuits were moist and I love how they throw them on the griddle real quick before slabbing them with gravy. Food is better than the other cafe just 400 ft away. Just sayin'
google avatar

Yelp
Had their breakfast quesadilla which was huge, crispy and delicious! But the real stand out was customer service by Jeff. The most charming waiter I have come across in like millennia. Jeff deserves a raise. Rare to come across such natural warmth and charm.
google avatar

Libby B.

Yelp
We're obsessed with their regular breakfast Burrito - I think it called the burrito choice with bacon! First off it's a big ol' hearty burrito! It's delicious has hash browns and veggies inside! Also Jeff has the best customer service ever! He's amazing and the staff is lovely! Will keep coming cause we love it here! Wait - did I mention the giant burrito is like $13! A steal of a deal in a sea of restaurants charging much more than that! Highly recommend stopping here!

Yelp
Went in person for the first time recently. I had ordered via app for delivery previously and the food was good but I really enjoyed the restaurant. Friendly service, tasty food, local place, good drip coffee, etc. I look forward to going back again.
google avatar

Melanie M.

Yelp
One of my favorite breakfast places. They love to emphasize that they are a family ran business and as they should! I love to support locally owned businesses. I am obsessed with French toast and this place has the best French toast I have ever had! Definitely recommend it! Another go to of mine are their breakfast burritos-- can't go wrong there.

Yelp
I think his name is Jesse, the owners grandson is the BEST!! I had to come back to this place just based on his amazing customer service the food was fantastic breakfast burritos, coffee, and the best muffins in the whole wide world
