I actually came to Phipps Plaza specifically for Rock's Chicken & Fries. I was about a mile away in a parking lot looking for lunch and rocks had great reviews! So what'd I think of this place?
Here's what I ordered:
Bacon Cheddar fried chicken sandwich ($9.59)
Single scoop of chocolate frozen custard (Free with yelp check in!)
Starting with the sandwich, The chicken sandwich is a soft chicken piece, breaded and fried and ridiculously juicy! On the sandwich comes lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese, buttermilk ranch dressing, and of course, BACON! This sandwich was GOOD. Everything blended together with each bite, and even if you don't think the sandwich is perfect, there's an entire bar of sauces that taste as good as they look that you can add to your sandwich!
With all their sandwiches comes a side of hand cut fries on the house. You can add toppings to your fries like cheese, bacon etc for a cost, but I added neither. Sadly, the fries themselves, plain, were the weakest part of my experience. They were pretty crunchy, almost too crunchy (overcooked) and completely unsalted. Using the sauces as dip helped, but if you want just good fries on their own, you may have to reach for a salt shaker.
The scoop of chocolate frozen custard costs $2.99 but if you check in (as of January, 2020) you'll get a free scoop. Man this scoop was so rich with chocolate flavor and had a very creamy, satisfying taste! I tore into this first actually, and had no problem finishing it. Check in or not, but try a scoop!
The interior of rock's is small, only having a few tables, but you can take your food and sit at tables in the food court area of the mall. Customer service was great, friendly and helpful. Service was also pretty fast, as my meal hit the table within 10 minutes!
I walked away completely satisfied with Rock's Chicken & Fries. Admittedly the fries were a bit overcooked, but otherwise I was happy with every other thing! Definitely worth checking out and I hope you do if you're in the area!
