We're staying in the hotel while here in Savannah. Each night we've gone to Rocks on the Roof for before dinner drinks and each night the service has been beyond frustrating. On the first night we were welcomed by the hostess who told us to sit wherever we'd like. So we did and waited for a server. And we waited and we waited. Several of the servers made eye contact with us but refused to come to the table. Not even a smile and wave phased them. Shockingly, a couple who'd arrived after us and were seated next to us not only was approached by a server but received their drinks AND some food all while we still hadn't even been approached. So McDreamy went up to the bar thinking perhaps we were supposed to order from there. The bartender then blatantly ignored him going so far as to serve the gents sitting next to him, walk past him, do something on her terminal, stare into space, turn around and then start a conversation with her coworkers. He called over (politely) to get her attention to which she feigned ignorance of his presence before and took his order.
The next evening, nearly the same thing happened. We were led to a table by the hostess, given drink and snack menus, and again nobody came to the table for our order. More direct eye contact, more refusals to come to the table. Ten minutes later as we were considering our other bar options, a server finally came over to take our orders.
I don't get it. We weren't mean, rude, or hostile to anyone. We weren't loud. We weren't treating anyone poorly or scowling at anyone. We are middle-aged so they couldn't possibly have confused us with a bunch of punks trying to get someone to serve them alcohol. We were simply sitting there patiently both nights making conversation and wondering why the crew was treating us as if we were invisible or possibly perfectly visible but suffering from some communicable disease.
The bright spot was the Aviator drink, which was delicious when it finally arrived. But on night two they had no IPAs on tap. So McDreamy was bummed. Go to this place for the view and the open air seating. But BYOB because you may never get served.
