Rocktown Adventures of Rockford

Came in with questions about a kayak for fly fishing. They were super-helpful and spent a ton of time going over features, pros-cons, and accessories for set up. Left with a Nucanoe Unlimited!

Great experience-- thanks to Kevin and the crew at Rocktown Adventures. We used their kayaking service, and Kevin was super helpful and friendly when expediting us to the drop-off point (Bauman Park) and informing us about how to use and navigate with the kayaks. Took us about 3 hours to paddle the Kishwaukee River where we returned to our car (the bridge at Atwood Park). Two guys from RA greeted us and retrieved the rented kayaks. Gorgeous river with plenty of nice views, calm waters, wildlife (turtles, mallards, geese, herons, cranes--maybe?), and an impressively tall bridge for the I-39 crossing that spans the river. Their kayaks seemed fairly new and in good condition as were the lifejackets and paddles. Quite an enjoyable and relaxing afternoon. Seems as if they offer other adventures and apparel/items related to the outdoors. Check them out.

We have spent over 2 hours on a Saturday discussing kayaks. We are newbies, the store manager took his time to explain and educate us. Was not pushy and very honest. Sounds like he himself loves kayaking and good adventures, which is very impressive as he knows first hand what works and what doesn't. No hesitation what so ever to recommend this store, just visit them and you will see. We drove well over 1 hour to visit the store and no regrets. For lunch he recommend a brewery just down the street, some of the best cheese curds we have ever had. We will be returning to water test few kayaks.

Great store, excellent staff, and a good selection of nearly everything you need for your outdoor adventure. Definitely recommend checking them out!

Ordered kayaks online for pickup at the store. Received everything as described upon arrival. The staff offered a level of expertise and knowledge beyond expectations. Friendly dogo' to play fetch with in the store was an added bonus. Highly recommend visiting their online store but suggest a visit to the brick and mortar for a better understanding of each piece of equipment. Full line of clothing and accessories available make a trip to the store worth it.

My wife and I spent were in pursuit of a Crescent fishing kayak. Rocktown was closest retailer to our home so we made the trek with our two kids. The trek (1.5 hour drive)…absolutely worth it! Great conversation, sharing everything they are passionate about, and as a dad, amazing interaction with our kids. Needless to say we are now all ready for Wisconsin waters this spring! We will make this trip for our next kayak purchase no doubt!

6 stars. Unfortunately, I was not able to write about my experience with RA in my last review so I decided to put some time into it because they did that for me. I used their service to book kayaking class for my wife. She was hesitant but I wanted her to get feel kayaking. I called RA and threw all my questions and the questions that couldn’t be answered Dave called me back later in the day clarified everything. He did more than I expected out him. On the day of kayaking classes, I was surprised my wife did not want to leave the group. She kept chatting and planing for her next kayaking trip. What I gathered from her later was she is was in total awe with instructors knowledge and the whole process of training. I am so glad she wants to continue kayaking. A huge thank you to folks at RA who made this happen.

Great local Kayak Store. Travis was very helpful in giving us the information to choose the best kayaks for our needs. They had the kayaks in stock when others didn't have them in stock. We went with the PDL kayaks and Travis was so knowledgeable and helpful throughout the entire process! They will take good care of you!

Some friends and I were in the Rockford area looking to rent skiis. Unfortunately, we arrived too late in the day to rent. I appreciated that the staff was honest with us instead of taking the sale and having us be unhappy. It also helped that they had the most adorable dog in the world. Stop by!

If you are in the Rockford area and looking to buy or rent some adventure gear, this is the best place around! Some friends and I recently took a trip to stay at a cabin in the Rockford area. We had planned to go cross country skiing and found that Rocktown Adventures rents xc skis in the winter. What we had not planned on was how slow we would be at finally leaving the cabin to go pick up the skis. Since they unfortunately don't do reservations for the skis, we called ahead to make sure they had some before heading over. By the time we got there it was already around 3 pm and unbeknownst to us, they close at 5 pm on the weekends. We got started with the rental process only to realize we would have very little time to ski before sundown. After explaining a couple options we had for still getting out on the skis, the staff member ultimately told us it probably wouldn't be worth our money given our time constraints. Instead of staying quiet, taking our money, and letting us have a very short ski trip, the staff member suggested the option that was best for us! He then told us that if we were ever back in town to just give them a call and if they had skis available he'd have them ready for us when we arrived. Not only is the staff knowledgeable and caring but they have an incredible selection of gear. We didn't end up spending any money there, and that is exactly why this was a five star experience!

For a small store front they have a great variety of products from various quality outdoors brands. The staff was very knowledgeable about the products and also very friendly.

This is a long overdue review. This past spring I was shopping around for a new fishing kayak. This was definitely the place that I was looking for. I tried Dicks, Cabelas and Bass Pro.. they just didn't offer the selection that Rocktown had. This store carries a wide variety of mid to high end kayaks. I ended up getting a 2016 Jackson Big Rig. I have not regretted my purchase!! The staff were patient, friendly and very knowledgeable! I've had such a blast this season with my kayak! I'll be coming here again when I get my wife one.

Great selection of boats, paddling gear and clothing as well as lifestyle brands including Prana, Mountain Khakis etc. Super friendly knowledgeable staff. I did a guided trip today with them , great experience, look forward to doing more.

Great store and knowledgeable staff. Beka and Jamie helped my husband and I demo some kayaks in the river, today. It's a great opportunity to test different kayaks before buying. Beka and Jamie answered all of our questions and provided excellent insight to help us pick out the perfect boat. I've also rented kayaks from Rocktown in the past, it's a great group activity!

I'm so happy! Six of us went down a stretch of the Kish tonight with the guides, Jamie and Beka from the Rockford location, who were very knowledge and encouraging when I expressed my nervousness. They were friendly and I felt very safe. We had life jackets, crash course tutorial, and assistance getting in/out of water. I will be dropping by their workplace to give them a tip, I'm that impressed. Will be using their services again.
