Rodney Scott's BBQ - Birmingham

You can just tell that this is an award winning restaurant. I’ve tried lots and lots and lots of BBQ. This is just hands down better than the rest. My order: 1/2 rack ribs, collard greens and hush puppies. How delicious all of it. My experience with collard greens isn’t extensive so I’m not going to comment on them. They were good and I ate them all. The hush puppies were hot, fresh, crispy on the outside, served with honey butter, and so good I could cuss. Now, the ribs. Where to start? Perfectly seasoned. No need for any sauce whatsoever. They were moist, and dry in all the right places. You could taste Rodney Scott’s rib rub. But it wasn’t over done. Again, they were seasoned absolutely perfectly. Hands down.

Wow! If you like BBQ, then you’ll want to visit this place! After seeing Rodney Scott, an award winning chef, on Chef’s Table: BBQ, I made a mental note that the next time I was down south, I’d make it a mission to try out his famous BBQ! It didn’t disappoint! The two meat combo, the loaded Tater Truck, and the Pulled Pork Sandwich were thoroughly enjoyed. The potato salad and coleslaw, and the cornbread rounded out this wonderful BBQ feast! If you find yourself in Birmingham, AL and craving BBQ, head on down to Rodney Scott’s BBQ. You’ll be treated like family and leave feeling stuffed and well loved.

I got the pork plate with collard greens and fries on 10/13. The crinkle cut fries could have definitely been a bit crispier. Collards were okay, but nothing special. Most of all, I was so glad they served their BBQ sauce on the side and not on the pulled pork (at least when boxed to go like my order) because that was the most intensely peppery BBQ sauce I''ve ever tasted. Way too intense and heavy handed with black pepper for my taste. I was discussing BBQ joints in Birmingham with someone the next night and he said Rodney Scott's was his favorite. I'm sure many others share that opinion. It's just not for me.

Our first time in Birmingham. Our first stop was here at Rodney Scott’s. I have been a big fan of his for a while. Glad I finally got to try some of his food, and it did not disappoint. The whole hog pulled pork was phenomenal. The sides were excellent. Great Mac n cheese and greens! Tater salad was also on point. We are here for about a week for baseball and will definitely be back! And shout out to Roger for the tour and conversation! Great spot. Great people

I have heard quite a bit about this place, but it did not live up to the hype. The whole hog was pretty mushy and tasteless. We actually enjoyed the shoulder quite a bit more. Seems like the meat is cooked in a way that requires a sauce, which I generally do not use, but today called for some Rodney sauce, which was quite good. Wait staff were awesome and very helpful, very clean spot, no complaints there. Recommend: - pork shoulder - pimento cheese (and especially the sausage that comes with it) Will try again in a few months to see if this was a fluke. Good luck.

First, a big thanks to Derrick for working so hard over the smokers. This guy is sweating up a storm so we can have delicious food. And to Jordan for offering us a tour. Such knowledge between these two gentlemen. Tangie took care of us at the bar and was absolutely lovely. Must haves: original pulled pork sandwich, extra Rodney sauce, collard greens, potato salad, slaw, and mac & cheese. Basically everything. Next time we’re gonna try the cornbread and onion rings. An experience so incredible it’s easy to see why they’re sitting on a James Beard award.

I just have to say , will all due respect I am a true Alabama BBQ fan. Nothing against vinegar BBQ . The pulled pork was tenderly cooked just enough smoke and tasted really good and, the brioche bun was delicious, I'm just not used to vinegar sauce. Be prepared if you are getting the pulled pork sandwich they don't do requests like outside sliced or outside chopped etc. So if you are a sweet BBQ fan like Full Moon , Golden Rule or Dreamland or other southern BBQ joints around you may not like Rodney's South Carolina Vinegar base BBQ. Now this is me just trying the pulled pork sandwich and I do want to go back for the ribs. I will mention they have a nice atmosphere, some outdoor seating for the warmer, nicer months .

I had the Original Whole Hog Pork Plate and it was pretty darn good. It comes without any BBQ Sauce and tastes great by itself. However, Rodney Scott's special BBQ sauce takes it to a whole another level. Every side order I had was also delicious. I had Macaroni and Cheese, a Tomato Cucumber salad, and Hush Puppies. My favorite was the Tomato Cucumber Salad, but I honestly have nothing to complain about with any of the food. I would definitely come back for a taste of Southern Barbecue!
