Russian River Flows With Wine After Sonoma Winery Disaster | Eater SF

"I found ponds, creeks, and drainage ditches near the Rodney Strong Vineyards foamy with red wine after a door in a 90,000-gallon blending tank popped open; the winery’s communications manager, Christopher O’Gorman, said they noticed the spill around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday when an apparent mechanical failure released the door on a massive vat of Cabernet Sauvignon. I learned about roughly 45,000 gallons spilled, with an estimated 20–25% flowing into vineyard ponds and creeks that feed the Russian River, a release the Russian Riverkeeper called likely the biggest wine spill in county history. Inspectors from the Sonoma County Water Quality Control Board and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife are investigating and say Rodney Strong could face misdemeanor charges and penalties; so far no fish kills have been reported, and Fish and Wildlife spokesperson Trisha Taniguchi said they saw frogs “doing their normal thing” and some invertebrates in the creek, which is a good sign." - Eve Batey

Beautiful tasting room and great selection of wines. They have a good variety for Cab and Pinot drinkers. Nice pace of the tasting and great host. Would recommend.

The place is very posh, the service is great, but… the wine was not attune to my palate. Wine is like that. You have to like it. But yes, a nice experience. Tastings are $40 for their 5 chosen wines in the nice atmosphere. Have fun!

I went here today with a couple of friends for a tasting. It was really fun and the Pinot noirs were so good. Nice earthy and fruity tones. The grounds are super pretty. I love the walk up to the tasting room and walking down from the back the stairs are a bit slanted which was cool. They were having a spring market event with cool vendors like jewelry, candles things like that. There was this cool taco truck that also sold sandwiches. I tried the pulled pork melt with two types of cheeses on sourdough. It was absolutely amazing. Want to come back for sure.

Commodities Relocation Specialist here. I was here, two weeks ago, for a pickup. Every person I interacted with was professional and courteous. I was loaded, well under an hour, with BOL in hand. After being loaded, I pulled off to the side of the vineyard, just past the loading dock, and had my lunch in a quite stress-free area; those who drive, know how rare this can happen. Thank you, for allowing me that quite time, at your facility, after being loaded.

Beautiful decor, friendly and knowledgable staff. Attended the Wine Barrel Tasting Tour and they handled the volume of visitors nicely. We were interested in all the bottled wines that we tasted.

Ron was our delightful sommelier. He was charming knowledgeable and witty. His attentiveness and amazing personality stole our hearts and our taste buds. He even converted our "Red wine loving friend" to a "I'll give it a try " kind of person. That within itself is a great feat. Thank you Ron!! You gave us a VIP experience and we can't wait to return just to see again!

Google
This is my favorite vineyard with consistently the BEST pinot noirs (and at the best prices). My mom and I traveled from out of state to meet up with friends and visit this vineyard for my birthday. I felt like a kid going to Disneyland, I was in awe of the beauty of the vineyard, the facility, sights, smells, and tastes. We met ALISON Michnevich, Tasting Room Manager/ vineyard ambassador extraordinaire. She guided us through an off-menu tasting that exceeded our expectations. In her company, we spent a couple of hours there, which seemed like 45 minutes. She treated us so well, we felt like family before joining the wine club family (my best present from mom). Davis Bynum/Rodney Strong was our first destination of several in the Russian River Valley, and it was the one to compare all others. I will definitely visit again, and highly recommend that you visit. I'm sure everyone here is nice, but if Alison is there, you must chat with her. She is knowledgeable, friendly, and simply marvelous.

Yelp
The wines remain strong and robust at Rodney Strong Vineyards! Located off the Old Redwood Highway in Healdsburg in the heart of Sonoma's wine country. Rodney Strong Vineyards has been around for over sixty years thanks to the establishment of the original winery Windsor Vineyards in 1959 with owners and winemakers Rod and Charlotte Strong. After decades of growing and reestablishing vineyards throughout the Sonoma Valley created some of the most awarded and recognized wines in the region, it was the purchase of the Rodney Strong Vineyards by the Klein family in 1989 that really elevated Rodney Strong Vineyards to the top tier level in winemaking, thanks to the innovation of winemaking equipment and techniques led by winemaker and owner Tom Klein. After previously having the chance to visit Rodney Strong Vineyards for a special invite-only food wine pairing out on their patio terrace many years ago, I have always wanted to make a return visit to Rodney Strong Vineyards to see the interior of their tasting room and sample their other more limited collection of wines. Luckily a friend and I would get that chance to do so recently when Rodney Strong Vineyards was promoting via social media a two for one purchase of their Introductory Flight which provided four of their delightful pours, and which reminded me that wines of Rodney Strong Vineyards remain as powerful as ever! Making a reservation ahead of time via their Tock reservation website was super easy to make and entering in their coupon code and receiving 25 dollars off your initial charges was equally as easy to accomplish. Upon entry to their wine tasting room, which of course also serves as their main production facility and even gallery of the wineries' history, one will notice how modernist and monolithic their tasting room appears to be with all cement and no windows. Thankfully there is a warm living-interior that greets guests upon entry. There were two seats with a small table that was near their one doorway that had a glass window that my friend and I chose to sit at, and our tasting room associate Patrick made us feel at home with a welcome pour of their 2024 Alexander Valley Sauvignon Blanc. With a full and soft mid-palate that resembled that of a Fume Blanc, it should be noted that this wine does have contact with their oak barrels here at Rodney Strong Vineyards, and was a nice a crisp wine that some would call a porch pounder that could be chilled and enjoyed all on its own, but thanks to being served here had a little more class than that. When paired with a salmon entrée, or even a salmon niçoise salad, this wine is elegance in a glass. For our next three pours we enjoyed three wines from their limited edition wines sourced from Rodney Strong Vineyards' sites in Russian River Valley and Knights Valley. We first enjoyed their 2023 Russian River Chardonnay, which provided for a nice balance of complex fruit thanks to its nice subtle lingering finish on the palate that led to a drier taste that was neither overly oaky or buttery. For our second pour, we enjoyed their 2023 Russian River Pinot Noir which had a lot of floral characters like rose and lavender on the nose that complemented the raspberry and cherry fruit character that came with every sip that came with very little tannins. Bold yet not overly complex, this is a rare Pinot Noir that could be enjoyed by the glass or bottle all on its own. For our fourth and final pour, we enjoyed their 2023 Knights Valley Cabernet, which was their most potent wine of all of our four pours, as you could definitely taste the tannins with this wine. Aged over a year and half in their French Oak barrels, the bouquet had a subtle dryness to it and you would definitely pair this robust wine with a heavier meal such as stew rich with flavors or a nicely cooked peppery steak. After four pours, our early morning tasting turned into an early afternoon tasting, as it is amazing how much you can accomplish in a couple of hours. Once our tasting was complete, Rodney Strong Vineyards made sure to send you and email stating that they have amended your tasting to include sales tax and an order fee, which was ambiguous at best what this was supposed to represent. Still, we both enjoyed our tasting at Rodney Strong Vineyards and would definitely come back to try additional pours, as they have earned their right to become a must-visit along the Russian River wine trail.

Yelp
We arrived early and had a lovely "Introductory" tasting. The staff was friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the wine and look forward to exploring their range of offerings from my local stores. The only negative was trouble with processing payment that ended with being double billed but that was resolved promptly.

Yelp
Gueremo was wonderful. Great tasting. Rowan flight was a great surprise. 600L. Let's go!

Yelp
Lovely place, good experience, tastings start at $40 and they accept walk-ins ( that we were). Wine tasting is a personal experience and I just did not "jive" with their wines, but had fun. Wish the information on the winery side were more extensive as I like the barrels and processing too, but we just saw them from passing to the restroom. Overall:'good experience. For my taste: given we were at a winery, I wish the tasting room was less "fancy" And more views of the vineyard etc were available, otherwise I might as well Be downtown in a bar! All good though. Have fun!
google avatar

Yelp
Surprisingly some good wines. Tastings are expensive ($40, $50) for a variety of their wines. If you can grab a taste sample of their 2 types of 100pt wine--they are amazing. Tasting room ambience is very corporate/sterile, which matches their brand.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious wine! Visited Rodney Strong for the first time recently. There are multiple tasting flight options available to meet different wine preferences. A tour is also possible. We opted for the Rowen flight that focused on Cabernet Sauvignon and a red blend. Upon check-in we were provided with a taste of rosé. After being seated we were given a small plate of munchies to enjoy. Every wine in the Rowen flight was so very good and our server was friendly and knowledgeable. Rodney Strong has plenty of parking, pretty and well-maintained grounds, and both indoor and outdoor seating areas. I highly recommend a visit and am looking forward to returning again.

Yelp
I purchased a case of RS cabernet, and noticed a wine spill on one of the labels. The bottle was intact, so I assumed the wine was not compromised. However, upon opening, and tasting, the wine was horribly acidic, and of poor quality. The remaining eleven bottles were okay. I have been exclusively purchasing RS since 2015, therefore I am very familiar with their product, and recognize poor tasting wine. I contacted RS, and enclosed a photo of the compromised bottle. Five days later, on 4/15/25, the wine club manager responded and stated that QC would contact me shortly. Crickets. On the 24th, I sent a reminder and have yet to hear from anyone. Who can recommend a comparable cabernet?

Yelp
I went to Rodney Strong Vineyards for a Colbie Caillat concert about a couple of months ago. The place was pretty packed with people, and it was difficult to find a spot to sit. We got the general ticket. I noticed there was an area that had chairs and there was no signage or a security person at the entrance of it. So I decided to go sit in that area. During the opener's performance, it was smooth sailing. Then when Colbie was about to perform, a lady came to us asking to see our lanyard, which we don't have. I mentioned to her that there was no signage so it's not like I know that this area was supposed to be for a specific group. The place was so packed that we had to squeeze in with some other chicks which we didn't have a very good view of the stage. I wish they limited more of their ticket sales so that people are not squished together. Not really enjoyable at all. I would not come back to this place again. I do want to say that the parking attendants were nice though.

Yelp
The wine and atmosphere were amazing and so was the service. Jerry and Yatyn were fabulous.

Yelp
We stopped here with one of our passes and we are really happy we did. The wine tasting experience was exceptional. We didn't schedule a tasting time, but Alex was very accommodating and didn't miss a beat when wanting to serve us. He walked us through 5 different wines and gave us a wine history in the process. He was so kind to us and made sure we felt special. The wine also tasted amazing and their space they have is so beautiful. It was such a relaxing experience and we would love to go back someday. We love seeing RS wine in stores now and try to get it when we can!

Yelp
This winery was very beautiful Very elegant from the outside with great seating area outside! Staff was very nice and attentive The choices of wine they offered were great fell in love with the Reds only one of the whites that I really liked. Over all 5 stars can't wait to go back and see the full tour

Yelp
My mom and I went here recently and did a tasting and a tour. We got lucky since it's off season and were the only people on our tour (it was 11 am I will add). We absolutely loved it! Ron was super insightful, taught us a lot, and truly knew everything we were drinking. We came here not knowing what to expect, as I haven't visited a larger winery such this one before, and it exceeded any and all expectations. Being from Tennessee I don't come out to California very often but the next time I am out here I will be visiting again, and I will be asking for Ron! Not to mention the building and property itself is just beautiful! The tasting did include some light snacks which is always a nice surprise, and even though the vineyard itself wasn't in bloom yet (because of the time of year we visited) we loved our tour! I throughly enjoyed seeing the barrel room and learning everything Ron had to say!

Yelp
As always, Rodney is serving up the best tastings. We came in for the Gentleman's Port but stayed for the Pinot. The tasting room was quiet, so it was a perfect morning to visit. Wines are available for every price range and palate. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Who doesn't like Rodney Strong. Not really a question. I've been to countless wineries, somehow I've never been here and finally it's done but only for the first time. Rodney has some great wines that my mother turned me and my wife on to many many years ago and it's always been a go to wine whether it's red or white. Today we got to try the wines you have to go to the winery for and I was not disappointed. They have grapes from 14 areas throughout the valley, they are all different and make for a diverse yet consistent taste. The tasting room is comfortable, there are tours, events and concerts. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The wine club has a great selection. This is definitely a space we will be back to.

Yelp
We had a wine tour at 11am and were greeted right away by our tour guide, Doug. This vineyard is very lucky to have Doug as he was knowledgeable and kind showing us around. This was my first ever wine tour and without a doubt, would recommend to anyone. My husband has been on multiple wine tours and also thinks that this tour was the best because Doug was the best tour guide. Doug took pictures for us near the barrels and gave us a taste of the wine straight from a barrel which was such a nice touch. If you are thinking about touring Rodney Strong Vineyards, do it! Such a gorgeous tour and you'll without a doubt you'll learn a whole lot about wine!

Yelp
Greeted by hostess and introduced to Doug who walked through our wine tasting. Beautiful grounds, and tasting room. Doug was knowledgeable and made sure we didn't drink too much on our first winery of the day. Enjoyed the Symmetry the best!

Yelp
My fiancé and I spent a lovely weekend recently exploring Windsor and Healdsburg and received a wine tasting pass for Rodney Strong. I heard of the winery and seen the bottles in stores, but this was a first time for both of us. We pulled up to the winery and I was immediately impressed by the architecture and landscaping. The staircase is inviting and draws you to the wine tasting room. I can see how this would be an excellent venue for a wedding or classy event, the space is quite large and lots of photo opportunities. We tried the whites, red and rose - which were all excellent. We decided on purchasing one bottle of our favorite wines to add to our collection. Great opportunity to purchase a few nice bottles at an affordable cost. We really enjoyed our experience at Rodney Strong and would highly recommend this winery when in Healdsburg.

Yelp
Massive winery! They distribute everywhere, except maybe Utah lol. Stunning vineyards and the outdoor patio seating for a nice afternoon picnic. They have two free guided tours daily 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., reservations are recommended. This place is rich in history, over 50 years in the wine making business, so you know they have it down. They make almost everything! Our wine tasting hostess Kendall is bubbly and outgoing, answers questions enthusiastically. I'm happy I finally came; it's in our backyard. We locals truly take things for granted. Can't wait to come back for the extraordinary Summer concerts. It's like Wente of Sonoma County, I wait for the lineup each year. Thanks a bunch Ryan and Kendall for the hospitality. We purchased a bottle of their excellent Symmetry for dinner one day. Checkout their ongoing wine events via website, there are food pairings for every season. They have a Winter food pairing on weekends right now. I met their Chef briefly, and he's not skinny...you know the saying goes "never trust a skinny Chef"! I'd love to try some of his colorful gourmet bites next time. Can't wait to come back with friends to spend a day in wine country that's less pretentious than Napa with plenty of parking! Did I mention this place is massive? 'Til we meet again ~ cheers and see you on Yelp (SYOY)!!!

Yelp
Local winery that offers different tasting options if wines that r sold here in the winery. Lots to choose from plus they offer tours of the facility that we definitely want to check out next time. The tasting room is filled with friendly and knowledgeable people who will help you find something you'll enjoy. It was fun learning with Tyson, a local who's learning about the biz first hand. Really chill people in a beautiful setting. Personally loved the Rose and the port. Yummy Enjoy!!

Yelp
Beautiful winery grounds with excellent wine, this is a must stop while if you're in the Healdsburg area! Aside from the natural beauty of vineyards, they have a gorgeous fountain and staircase out front for picture taking. I went on a sunny Saturday morning and there weren't a lot of people, but I can imagine it gets busy later on. Free wine tasting of 5 wines from their Estate menu with Yelp check-in, otherwise the fee is only $10 and waived with the purchase of a bottle. Otherwise there are 2 pours from the Sonoma County wine collection that are always complimentary. The pours are generous and the staff are friendly. The wine itself is reasonably priced per bottle, so it's easy to get the fee waved. Be sure to check which wines are from the winery only, as some of their bottles are available for purchase outside the winery. While their white and rosé wines were good, I think their standout is their red wine. I especially loved the Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel, and we ended up buying a bottle. It has a nice fruity flavor without having too many tannins, and has a pleasant after taste. Their "True Gentleman's Port" is an excellent dessert wine. It's not overly sweet with a very smooth flavor. They were kind enough to give us some chocolate to have with the port so we could fully appreciate it, which worked since we ended up buying a bottle of that too. Free tours at 11 am and 2 pm - our tour guide was great and did a great job explaining the history of the winery and the winemaking process. I thought it was interesting they went into more detail than the typical tour on the harvesting and growing process of vineyards. You'll get a tour of the facilities and see the barrel room (which smells amazing BTW). Even if you don't do the guided tour, there's a self-guide tour outside of the tasting room that they've set up to show the machinery and history of the winery. Overall, I'll definitely stop by again for a visit then next time I'm in town!

Yelp
This is a must visit if you go to Sonoma Wine Country. We were the first group to arrive at Rodney Strong and we had such an incredible experience. We started with a history updates from Paul. Our favorite person ever. He was so patient with me. A novice at most. We started with a wine tasting. Go figure. I prefer the whites but I have to say Rodney Strong has some red wines that I loved. Try the Pinot Noir if you are a beginner red wine person. Paul introduced me to the wine club but my spouse talked me out of it. We still purchased a half a case of wine. I regret not signing up but now when I'm in the market to purchase some red wine, Rodney Strong is my choice. I also fell in love with his Rose wines. Simple, dry and not too sweet. I had to take home a few bottles. The ambiance is gorgeous with a wonderful wine tasting experience.

Yelp
What a lovely place to wine taste. The grounds is huge and beautiful. It's probably better if it wasn't raining. We checked in through Yelp and received a free tasting but that didn't matter because we love the wines and bought 3 bottles! Our favorite was the syrah which had a very strong bold flavor. Our winetender was very helpful and knowledge. Rodney was our first stop.

Mandy K.

Yelp
Jeremy was our waiter and knew as much as a sommelier. It's a beautiful winery and has wonderful tasting wines. We highly recommend their wine tastings which helps you choose which bottles you want to purchase. Excellent service!!

Yelp
My wife and I recently enjoyed a tasting at Rodney Strong on December 29, 2022. We were immediately greeted by Jeremy Elb, an outgoing and, as we later found out, incredibly knowledgeable person who knew everything about Rodney Strong history and the lovely wines they make. While my wife loves Whites and lighter reds, we actually changed wine clubs (from Symmetry to Elevation) since I am a fan of big reds. Of particular interest was the difference between the 600L and 600R, which beautifully match the left and right banks of the Bordeaux. My other favorite was the 2040, a wonderful Cabernet blend made from the highest peak in the Cooley Ranch vineyards. They are wonderful wines! Again, our sincere thanks to Jeremy (and Aiden, who assisted him) for teaching us about these wonderful wines!

Karina M.

Yelp
If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. It's 1 pm on a Friday, this place is NOT packed, they saw us walk in and turned us away immediately. Granted, we walked in with a baby and a group of color and they turned us away. Before us, a Caucasian family walked in with a baby and they were seated right away. They didn't have a reservation - we asked. We walked outside and their patio was completely open! Not sure why we couldn't be seated when there were MANY seats available. "This isn't a good time" is what the lady at the front said. That's fine, we will go somewhere else and give our business. #racist

Yelp
Abby is the most amazing at this winery! She made the experience a phenomenal time. I can't wait to come back again and request Abby to be our host! They have the best red wine in northern Cali!

Yelp
My first time here was a blast! Henry poured our tasting flight and he was so kind! We ended up purchasing a couple bottles each and having a lovely afternoon in their gorgeous outdoor tasting area. Thank you for being open and being amazing!

Yelp
Truly enjoyed the winery! Brett was awesome...lots of info minus the stuffiness! Must try and highly recommend!

Yelp
This tasting room is quite busy and any fan of Rodney Strong wines should make this a must stop. Been drinking this vintner for years and it's always a nice stop to take a break from the road. The gorgeous grounds and facilities are worth a visit on their own then add a great wine maker to it and this place makes for a great experience. The friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff can make your tasting a worth while adventure if you're willing to deal with the crowds. This tasting room is very busy. Most everything available in the tasting room is also available through most retail wine shops, there are however, depending on the time of year a couple sampling's that can be had only at the winery. A beautiful facility with great wines and a solid staff make this winery a popular stop and well worth a visit if you're in the area. It can be very busy at times during the tourist season. Best advice; allow yourself extra time to stop. 4 Stars - a solid winery with great wines. 00524

Yelp
I like the fact that this winery was founded by a ballet dancer who trained under Balanchine and Martha Graham. Apparently he lost the winery to the current owners in 1989 and died in 2006, but the winery still bears his name. I'm no connoisseur, but even I've enjoyed their wines over the years, especially their Cabs and Merlots. Jamie W. and I took advantage of their complimentary wine pours in their tasting room last month (photo: http://bit.ly/1JnGdRx). As full-bodied as their wines were and as friendly as their staff was, that's not why we there. Oh no, we came because we gotta cut loose, footloose, kick off our Sunday shoes and see Kenny Loggins perform. He's 67 now but still kickin' it old school (photo: http://bit.ly/1MP8r9Y). Jamie and I think wineries are the penultimate concert stop for 1980's pop music icons, the one before county fairs, because the audience is predominantly middle-aged and decidedly drunk on the same Cabs and Merlots we tasted before the show. This didn't stop us from having a great time and just as importantly, it didn't stop Loggins from going into the audience to give free hugs to wanton housewives too tipsy to let go of him while he sang "Celebrate Me Home" (photo: http://bit.ly/1hgzBKS). This was part of the winery's summer concert series where other performers of a similar vintage played. Stalwarts like Randy Newman and George Benson performed on other Saturday evenings. In fact, we were here two years ago to see Michael McDonald, Loggins' old songwriting partner who also sang a medley of his hits (photo: http://bit.ly/1KP7BWz). It wasn't cheap to relive my youth since VIP tickets cost $120 a piece, which allowed us actual seats (no need to bring lawn chairs) and complimentary glasses of wine, or more accurately, plastic cups of free Chardonnay. It was worth it since we got closer to the stage and could see the full effects of his eye lift. He was in pretty good voice even if his upper register screeched a bit. Whose larynx doesn't do that anyway? After all, it's highway to the Danger Zone, ride into the Danger Zone. One gregarious woman entered the zone since they had to carry her out in a golf cart.

Yelp
Great ambience Great wine Service depends on who you get But the pour leaves a lot to be desired for the price. $15 per glass and the pour was equal to what I would call a flight or tasting

Yelp
How does one culminate an already fantastic weekend? By heading to Rodney Strong for their Vine to Table Experience on The Terrace. Rodney Strong is located off Old Redwood Hwy in Healdsburg in a serene valley surrounded by vineyards as far as the eye can see. They offer wine tours, tastings, concerts and phenomenal cuisine. I was there this past Sunday for their 5-course wine pairing menu that was hosted on the lower terrace next to the chardonnay vineyard. The terrace had an outside wine bar, fireplace and seating for dining. It's an ideal setting for any event or dining experience (I did not go in to the main tasting room and can not speak to that). Our lunch had an array of delicacies paired perfectly with the wine. My favorite was the Grilled Akausha Bavette paired with the 2013 Alexander's Crown Cab. The price was very reasonable at $70 and the service was casual. I would have preferred a little more explanation of the pairings. Overall, if the opportunity arose again, I would absolutely go back for another dining experience or one of their concerts. Definitely worth stopping by if one is in the area.

Yelp
Tasting: Free (2 standard wines); $5 (4 Estate wines. Refunded on purchase) Worth another visit? No. Located next to J. For some reason, the building reminded me of an attraction at Epcot Center. Inside, you can take a self guided tour to view their oak and steel barrows. Since I cannot remember the taste of any of their wines, it must have made no impression on me. By the way, why does every winery want me to become a Club Member?
google avatar

Caitlen P.

Yelp
Beautiful estate, good wines but lacking the small intimate experience so many of the wineries here offer. That's not to say that Rodney Strong is not worth a visit, just that it's not an experience where the staff can spend lots of one on one time with you, which is what I prefer. Tasting room is actually pretty small, smaller than I had imagined but staff are well educated and kind!! The food here is rather delicious and I appreciated the fun and innovative ness that the chefs clearly have!

Yelp
Rodney Strong Vineyards has long been a favorite of mine and is a must-go if you enjoy flavorful reds, delicate whites, and enjoyable conversation. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about the wines and the nitty-gritty details that make each one so special. Ron, Doug, Katie, and Lynn are superstars and make every tasting fun. Every time I'm in wine country, I make sure to stop by.

Yelp
We attended the Valentines event and had a truly wonderful evening. It started off with barrel tastings and fancy appetizers that were brought out by servers. There was a fun photo area set up with hats, boas, etc. up to take pictures with your sweetie. After the mingling, it was time for a salsa lesson with professional dancers. I was really surprised but mostly pleased that my bf got into it. We both have a set of left feet but we had fun and learned something new. Then we proceeded to a lovely barrel area set up with a live salsa band, dance area and tables set with pretty flower centerpieces. There were beautiful chandeliers hanging also which set for a romantic evening. We sat with other couples and enjoyed a four course meal with different wines paired with each course. It was a fun night and the other couples we sat with were great company. The event staff were very friendly and not wine snobs as you might expect. This was the second annual Valentine's event and hopefully not the last. The wine was great, the food was great, and the company - great! Thank you Rodney Strong Vineyards for a very nice evening.

Yelp
We had a less than a desirable experience with a very rude greeting from a cranky employee named Lynn. The wine was ok but with all of the other wineries in the Sonoma and Napa Counties, we'll be spending our money elsewhere.

Yelp
I have been a wine club member at a lot of other wineries... but have by far enjoyed this wine club the most. The wines are all incredibly tasty... with a nice combination of grape varietals as well as a wide range in price point. There are lots of options for wine clubs as well, so you can tailor to fit your drinking habits and budgets! The tasting room is friendly and not pompous. There is a certain approachability and family-like atmosphere. The people who pour are so knowledgeable and seem to really love what they do but also where they work. There is not ever a pressure to buy (although I suppose I buy a lot of wine to start... haha). I always walk away having learned something. I am really happy/grateful to have stumbled upon this winery. There's also an outdoor seating area so you can pause, enjoy a bottle of wine and take in a beautiful day in Sonoma.

Yelp
Myself and my girlfriend were able to make an appointment the day of. The terrace area was very beautiful. They set up awnings to protect from the sun and the wines were really good. Their standard tasting is normally 5 wines, but I think we had 9 tastings. Definitely will be back soon!

Yelp
Rodney Strong Vineyards is located next to J making the two a lovely afternoon in the Russian River wine region. Their large and opulent winery is located near Healdsburg with a combined entrance from Old Redwood Highway. The entrance to the winery is pretty cool with a split stairway and ramp over a large fountain. This large facility doubles as the cellar and working winery in a classic modern design that still looks great. You have several tasting choices including a wide range of varietals. I chose the Pinot Noir flight which included several experimental clones that was really great. My extremely helpful and cheery host Madison was great, but she is leaving soon. Get her while you still can! As you would expect the Burgundy wines do well in this climate and shine at Rodney Strong. The price point is high, but consistent with the quality. I was not expecting to visit them, but I am glad that I did!

Yelp
They added a $20 per person charge and a mandatory 18% gratuity on to our 9 person wine tasting. Since the normal tasting is $30 they almost double the price just for the privilege of having a group of more than 8 people? We were never told of this charge in advance and it makes no sense. Very disappointed and the atmosphere and wine weren't even good enough to warrant the original $30, I would stay away from this vineyard unless you have a specific reason to be there.

Yelp
My husband and I have always enjoyed Rodney Strong's wines when dining out so when we had to the chance to stop by their tasting room, we jumped at it. We had the best time! In addition to getting to try two wonderful tasting menus, it was beautiful location/tasting room, and Jeremy Eib our host, shared a lot of fascinating facts.

Yelp
Great wine, great service. We came here on a rainy weekend and we were trying to enjoy some snacks and they were very accommodating and got us a table inside and let us set up camp there. we got a couple bottles, the Pinot, Malbec and Zin. I would come back here and would like to do the full tasting!

Yelp
My wife and her girlfriends came by RS Vineyards and had a great time. The highlight of the trip, and what made it extra special was the high level of customer service given by the host Tyson. He went above and beyond to ensure that his guests were comfortable and well taken care of. I appreciate this, because my wife came home happy and stress free. Thank you Tyson! Needless to say, we'll all be going back to pay this establishment a visit, this time with husbands in tow.

Yelp
I love Rodney Strong wine and I cannot believe I've never been there before! It's in a beautiful location of Healdsburg. It had just rained and the scent of pine in the air was refreshing. Anyway, they were decked out for the holidays and not busy at all. We bustled up to the wine tasting bar and received very friendly and efficient service by the beautiful Eileen. She was nice enough to bring me a chair due to my bad knee. I was a little grumpy when I got there because I did not want to stand, but this kind gesture - and perhaps the wine - lightened my mood right up! For someone very new to the region, she sure knew her varietals and was super knowledgeable! We ended up joining their wine club and took half a dozen bottles of wine with us. I was a true blue Charlottes Home fan (still am), but the Upshot red blew me away. And I originally asked to try it based on the cool label! lol We look forward to returning as wine club members in the future.

Yelp
My partner and I went for the complimentary tour and tasting. We got more than we bargained for, including a tasting straight out of the barrel still in the aging process! We really enjoyed the pinot noir rose and brought a bottle home. The guy giving the tour seemed a little unsure of himself, but a nice guy. I was hoping for a little more info on the grape-growing process and such. Overall, a positive experience.
