My first visit and it came highly recommended by friends. Being a smaller sized restaurant, I anticipated some down and dirty Mexican food like Sely's in Schertz, where plates overflowed with eye-popping delights.
I ordered a combination plate with a cheese enchilada and a crispy beef taco, rice, and borracho beans. The plate arrived and looked good, but servings were on the meager side, considering the price. The cheese enchilada was just okay, with stringy, tough cheese, as if a microwave had been utilized. Hmmm... The taco was small with a small portion of beef and lots and lots of lettuce and tomato. After taking a long look at the taco shell I decided that it was not pulled from a box of HEB taco shells but was more likely home-fried in the kitchen, but only to an anemic pale brown. No to the dainty crispy beef taco; that was simply disappointing.
I asked for a side of mole and it was nice and spicy-rich, but the consistency was way too watery, I was hoping for a nice, thick mole.
Chips were on the standard side, I prefer Sely's which have a thicker, toasted corn flavor.
Asked twice for lemon for my water but it never arrived.
On the positive side, the restaurant is simply designed, nicely decorated, and appeared very clean. I tasted a friend's strawberry margarita and it was perfectly delicious. And that green Serrano salsa was fantastic, I poured it on everything. The rice on the combo plate was very good, and I actually finished it, which I typically ignore in most restaurants.
Overall, not my favorite restaurant, but I will be back when it's Margarita time.
