"Follow the “BBQ Here” signs to visit this understated neighborhood spot in West Salem, just a short drive from the wineries in the Eola-Amity Hills. Owner Roger Schneider started smoking meats as a hobby, but now the barbecue business is so popular people literally line up for it, a phenomenon otherwise nearly unheard of in Salem. Schneider’s brisket has an impressively rosy smoke ring and bark the color of pitch, which, along with the other meats, can be had by the pound or in tacos or sandwiches such as a pulled pork Cubano. Though not strictly a barbecue staple, a cult favorite is Roger That’s take on the smash burger. Labeled Wimpy Burgers, they drip with processed cheese (in a good way), they’re only $2 each, and people sometimes order them in double digits." - Emily Teel

We order to combo of brisket and both were dry and burnt. I know it’s suppose to be a bark but this was horrible. This was the :rd time we’ve eaten here and the last. We paid 49.00 for approximately 2 lbs of brisket that was really inedible. I will just buy a brisket from Costco and cook myself.

Google
We love this place. Like everywhere, we’ve seen them go up in price over the last few years. I paid about $25 for a Brisket combo with 2 sides. For about the same $, my hubby got the Boss combo with ribs, brisket, and 2 sides. One combo is enough food for two people who eat an average amount of food or for leftovers the next day. My son’s wimpy kid’s meal was $6 for a burger and fries, but they forgot his fries. They also didn’t give us a receipt so I’m not sure if we were charged for the meal or just a wimpy burger. Their brisket is soooo good. It’s juicy and flavorful because they don’t trim all the fat off. Thank God because that’s what makes the brisket juicy and flavorful. If you don’t like the fat, trim it off before eating. But without the fat, brisket will be dry with little flavor. So thank you for that Roger!! Their ribs are also good and fall of the bone tender. They have great Bbq sauce too. As for their sides, I like their fries, tots, kicked up corn, and BBQ baked beans. Not a fan of their potato salad, spicy Mac n cheese, or their Mac salad. Now I understand that everyone has different tastes and preferences. So by all means, try them. You may love them. I’m just giving my honest opinion.

Google
Brisket and pulled pork were disgusting. The brisket was very dry, yet simultaneously extremely greasy, chewy, and totally flavorless. Had a huge chunk of fat in the brisket that funny enough had a better flavor than the meat itself. The brisket reminded me of crappy potroasts I buy on sale, freeze, and then slowcook in my crockpot except my frozen discount crockpot roast tastes much better because I actually season it. The pulled pork was also flavorless and dry and had an aftertaste of plastic for some reason? As if it was kept in a plastic bag or container and the plastic taste leeched in. Really gross. The meats seemed to have no seasoning whatsoever, no salt, nothing. Very disappointed and won't be returning, we actually threw out the meat after spending a ridiculous amount of money on it because it was THAT bad. If you have spent any time down south at all and have had actual good BBQ, skip this place.

Google
1st time and what a great little place and the food was good and plentiful. Fries and onion rings came out cold 😕 but the other items were excellent!!! Will be return customers 😄

Charles Anderson

Google
The portions of brisket were enormous - my wife and I got 3 meals out of one sandwich. The brisket was the fattest, most tender brisket I’ve ever had. I dinged the atmosphere just because it’s like a church fellowship room.

A very gracious and appreciative THANK YOU!! To the entire team at Roger That BBQ! They supplied the food for our Daughter's Wedding- Brisket, pulled pork, chicken, kicked up corn Mac n cheese, veggies, slaw... All of it was spectacular! Complimenting the BBQ was a common theme amongst the attendees. Couldn't recommend them more!

Google
Id like to preface this with the fact I’m a southerner and have my own preferences for BBQ (Specifically NC and Georgia) The atmosphere is great and it feels like a hole in the wall joint. The staff was super friendly and I even got to meet the legend Roger himself! As far as the food goes, the meats are wonderful, my girlfriend and I got ribs, brisket and the pulled pork. Everything was cooked to perfection, the meat was literally fall off the bone good. The sauce was great as well, it had a bit of a tang to it but it wasn’t overbearing. For the sides I ordered the Spicy Mac and Potato Salad. I will admit I’m a bit disappointed with both of them, the mac (in my opinion) tasted like KFC’s Max and cheese with cayenne added to it; and the potato salad had black olives in it (never heard of olives in potato salad so it’s just a bit of a shock to me). Aside from that everything was great and I will be coming back!

Yelp
We bought ribs and brisket for a family dinner. So we bought our food to go and took it home. The food was delicious, and everyone who helped when we picked up our food was friendly and helpful. The barbecued meat was tender, juicy and delicious. I was impressed by how perfectly cooked it was. The sides were really good. We loved it.

Yelp
This place has a lot of hype, so I was very optimistic about getting a great meal here. Two of us spent $50 and there just wasn't a whole lot there. We ordered the dinner for 2, pick your meat, and because we both wanted the beef brisket, we got a $4 upcharge for doing a double brisket. We added a 1/2 slab of ribs ala carte, and added a banana pudding. Our sides were baked beans and coleslaw. Brisket was okay, but just not a whole lot of it, especially since we were upcharged. There were about 3 slices per person, not huge ones, mushy, no crust. BBQ sauce was very good. Sorry, but the ribs tasted really off. Like liver. We didn't finish it and left it. Coleslaw was really great, as were the beans. Banana pudding was great. This one is just not a repeater for me.

Yelp
I've been going to Roger That for years but I've never reviewed them because they're hard to rate. 5 star food and 2 star everything else, what do I rate them? I used to feel like they didn't deserve anything less than a 4 because of the food, but they're so bad on everything else I'm now fine with giving them a 3. The main foods are great. My favorites are the brisket, wimpys, and pulled pork. My wife loves the ribs and the hot links. Sides are just OK. They have a ton of other things (sandwiches, tacos, cheesesteaks, etc.) that we haven't delved into much. And that's one of the issues actually: - The menu is constantly changing with things coming off, things added on, they're out of this, don't have that today, etc. The actual menu is covered with papers taped on (and handwritten), and you can't see it until you're at the very front, it's annoying. Last time I was there they had loaded baked potatoes on the menu, this time they were gone and when I asked about them the gal acted like I was crazy and she'd never heard of them. - And you can't even look at the menu online because their website is down half the time and they don't have the menu on their FB page or anywhere else. - Some of the food is inconsistent. The amount of sauce on the ribs is different every time. Today the ribs were a little chewy, not as tender as usual. - Service is not amazing, let's put it that way. It can take a long time to get your food once you order (40 minutes today for me), I couldn't get anyone to call me back about a catering job, their hours are short, etc. There's just not a ton of care put into anything. They kind of know people love the food so much they don't have to put the effort into anything else. And that food is so good I keep coming back. Maybe someday I'll get so fed up with all their other nonsense I'll quit driving out there (or maybe hit that new food truck park by them...) but for now I need my wimpys.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem, and I'm glad to finally give it some light. I've been coming here for years, and go out of my way to do so. First off, you know a good BBQ place when you get repeated warnings that they run out of food. Ok, you've got my attention. It appears ran by a family or a family and friends, so you get less of a "corporate" feel, and more of a local feel, which I love. The service isn't fast, but I wouldn't expect it to be. The BBQ is great, I love the menu, and I can never decide what to get. I've had both the Brisket and Pulled Pork, and both are amazing. Got the mac and cheese pork taco last time, and for $4, I got about $10 worth of food. I can't recommend this place enough, and it's well worth the drive. Just get there early!!!

Terrence M.

Yelp
Order: Boss 2 meats 2 sides--1/2 rack ribs, sliced brisket slaw and fries. Pros: Usually they are on point. However today they were off for me. Cons: the Boss 2 meats and 2 sides are $24 on the menu. However, they add on $4 to the Boss 2 meats if you get ribs. The menu should say that there will be an add on for ribs to the Boss 2 meats to avoid confusion. $30 for bbq is mad crazy especially since Ive been to bbq places where I could get the same amount for less. This time around the coleslaw tasted old and sour.

Yelp
I thought I had good BBQ before. I suppose I had... but nothing compares to what I experienced at Roger That BBQ! I watch a lot I mean A LOT of BBQ content on YouTube and such, and I always thought that those massive trays of BBQ HAVE to be so delicious. Then, I had one of those trays in front of me here at Roger that BBQ. It was everything I imagined it being, taste wise and presentation, and then some. The owner had some awesome young men working behind the scenes and you could tell they were eager to learn and to serve. As you can see in my photo, the inside is simple but sets the tone for a great BBQ dinner. Get here early! We got here an hour before it opened, and not 20 minutes after it opened it started getting BUSY. If you're looking for GOOD, REAL Texas BBQ Roger That BBQ will not disappoint.

Debi D.

Yelp
I wish I could recommend this place, but the food we received looked nothing like the picture of the Wimpy burger posted on the wall as we walked in. It was smallish, child size. One little piece of processed cheese and a small smear of sauce on the bun, thrown into a Styrofoam Container with no paper wrapping around the burger. We took the burgers home and added a fresh slice of sweet onion, fat slice of tomato, pickles and more sauce, which made it edible. Looks like it was all kids working behind the counter. The strawberry shake which I was told had real strawberries, didn't. It was overly sweet but no tidbits of strawberry could be seen or found. The price is low, I'll give them that, but the quality is not there. I won't be a repeat customer.

Yelp
I had Roger That BBQ cater my new housewarming party and hands down best BBQ in Mid-Willamette Valley area! The service is great and the food is delicious. Lots of sides to choose from. I especially like the Brisket and baked beans. I also love supporting local and local to West Salem.

Kyle R.

Yelp
Love this place! I am an Executive Chef and I am a big fan of BBQ. I've been through all of Portland, most of Texas, even Oklahoma, and this place kicks a**! I went here on a Friday with 4 people and came back on Sunday with 12. I took ribs, brisket, and pulled pork back with me to OC. The staff was phenomenal, even though I got my whimpy burgers late Love this place and love the staff that works there, huge kudos!!!!

Mark J.

Yelp
The Wimpy burger was the highlight but that's a bit disappointing for a place with BBQ in the name. Brisket was lacking smoke flavor and sliced too thick - was a bit dry. We were excited about crinkle fries but they were served cold. My perception is their success has outpaced their ability to execute.

Kina W.

Yelp
I called them after getting sick from their food and they never called me back . The chicken was overcooked and the ribs were undercooked. And apparently they don't care if a person gets sick from their food. I've had it several times before and it was good But this particular time it wasn't

Shoreh G.

Yelp
Best BBQ ribs. Worth the drive. The staff was very personable and offered great service. Will go back

Niki S.

Yelp
The food was amazing when I went! Seeing their photos on Facebook makes my mouth water and I want to go back and get more! Bbq done right! The staff were so helpful and great! The ambiance was relaxed and perfect for eating bbq!

Yelp
3.25 stars. Along with Willamette Valley Smokehouse and Briel's BBQ, Roger That makes some of the better BBQ in Salem (as of 3/2024). Currently, my rankings go Briel's BBQ (brisket and elote side), Willamette Valley Smokehouse (all items outside the brisket), and Roger That (brisket). The brisket itself tastes like it has been smoked for hours over Oregon white oak. White oak is a cousin of Texas post oak which is what all the BBQ joints out there have been gravitating towards over the past decade or so. The BBQ usually had a very pretty ruby red ring from the smoking. They honored my request for pure fatty brisket. The brisket is pretty good. I do not believe Roger That is using prime grade brisket. I think a couple of places in Portland do that but again, it's quite expensive to use prime grade. It does mean the brisket is less savory and lacks the velvety consistency I've found for excellent brisket that you would find at the best places in Texas. But just understand this is a different product executed well and you will be happy. I ordered the pork ribs and again, some of it is just my preference of St. Louis style spareribs as opposed to baby back ribs. I like my ribs with the slightest pull off the bone. Seasonings can either be simple (Franklin BBQ in Austin) or more complex (Dreamland's in Tuscaloosa) but the combination here wasn't memorable. The accompanying sauce didn't do much for me but admittedly I tend to prefer more vinegary sauce bases for pork. I wasn't a big fan of the ribs here. Sides were pretty average. I like they add some spice to their mac, but the cheese base itself tasted similar to Kraft. Again, some people will love that as it might make them nostalgic to their childhood. So it really depends on your preferences. Not everyone wants or even likes items like gruyere in their mac. Green beans had a little bit of pork flavor which was nice. What I will say is that Roger That knows how to cook BBQ. Whether or not it is exactly your cup of tea depends on your experiences and subjective tastes. It is worth a visit if you are in West Salem.

Yelp
Not really sure why this place has 5 stars. A group of friends and I were excited to try this spot given the raving reviews on Yelp - we thought we might be able to get real southern BBQ in Oregon. However, we were a bit disappointed in the quality and pricing. They also added an extra $4 charge for a ribs + brisket combo without telling us, nor was it listed on the menu - this was disturbing. There was also an extra hidden charge for getting veggies as one of the sides. Not cool. The cuts of meat themselves were decent, no problem there. However, the bbq smoke flavor was missing from both the ribs and the brisket. For something that should have been in the smoker for 1/2 a day or more, it does not taste like it. There doesn't seem to be much of a difference between the taste of slow cooking ribs and brisket, versus what we ate here. Overall, $33 for a ribs and brisket combo with a side of Mac in Salem is outrageous. The two hidden charges we only discovered on the receipt after was not acceptable. Service was average. Other notes: - They have their own parking lot, some other street spots nearby if the lot is full. - Expect a wait time of 30+ minutes for your food to arrive after placing an order. - Limited outdoor seating. - Accepts card.

Yelp
I wouldn't go here if you're hungry! I've drove three times over an hour drive to get BBQ and I'm always told they are sold out! How do they sell out in an hour after I call! Thanks I would go to a place that serve you and doesn't have people tell you on phone that there is lots of food just come and then 3 times I've wasted gas and my time going here!! Thanks you just lost a customer

Stephanie D.

Yelp
Food is all around fantastic! Service is always above and beyond friendly and fast and the setting is so comfortable, this is definitely a staple date night/family dinner spot for us!

Kayla L.

Yelp
Roger that has some really incredible food. My family's favorite is their brisket, and ribs. And for sides we love their bbq beans(has good chunks of meat), garlic bacon green beans, and the kicked up corn(has some spice). The brisket is truly the highlight every time. It's so tender and flavorful. We've come about a half dozen times now and also ordered a couple pounds for a party and every time it's been fantastic. Such a great bbq spot, and fast friendly service. Definitely come check these guys out if you love BBQ!

Karla C.

Yelp
Went in today to get some BBQ and enjoy the patio. Service was great and the food was incredible. We had a couple of the wimpy burgers, brisket and the chicken bacon ranch sandwich...everything was hot and fresh. There were plenty of shaded areas on the patio. The owner even brought a bowl of water out for my dog.

Ethan B.

Yelp
I am glad I revisited Roger That, as it appears my last visit was indeed a fluke. It's by no means exceptional -- it's still rather low on my list of BBQ joints in town, but they're good folks and they try. Again, starting at the good: the chicken wings are incredible, as others have pointed out. I'm not sure where they get the dinosaurs that produce such massive wings, but the meat is flavorful, the sauces and rubs diverse, and the breading crispy as anything. The wings are served with a buttermilk heavy ranch that cuts the breading perfectly. Delicious. The barbecue sauce is also a stand out plus. The Memphis-style sauce is on the thin side, but just the right balance of sweet, savory, and smoky. The brisket, which can have some quality control issues (see my previous review) is generally good, if not really worth the price tag. Unfortunately, Roger That has a few issues. Least important, and admittedly more a pet peeve of mine, is that their hours / reliability are awful. They've gotten better at preparing enough food to last a few hours, but it can still be something of a crapshoot trying to come here on a weekend only to discover they've sold out. As with my last review, I will note that both the ribs and the brisket run a bit bland. The quality of the meat seems to have gone up, with no more mealy texture -- I'm not sure whether they changed butchers or what, but it's working for them. Unfortunately, the flavor's still the same. The smoke just doesn't really seem to penetrate the meat. And the "spicy mac and cheese" remains the worst mac and cheese I've ever eaten. On my first visit, I noted some hygiene issues -- hair in the food. This time, perhaps due to not ordering the same BBQ sauce, I did not notice any hairs as I was eating. I'm not hugely bothered by the occasional hair in my food, but at this price point, it can be a bit of a slap in the face. I'd still eat with a wary eye, at least for a few more visits. Roger That still struggles to deliver consistent quality, but it's definitely worth a try. For the price point, I'd like a better job at the smoker. If everything were the quality of Roger That's wings, I'd be ecstatic. The owners are lovely people, and very attentive, but for the price, I really need some of that care and attention put into the food, not just the customer service.

Nancy L.

Yelp
We have never disliked a single item from Roger That! The ribs are spectacular. The cole slaw and street corn, delicious. Amazing pulled pork and a really great spicy Mac-Cheese. PS: Add a couple of Wimpy Burgers on to your order!

Camila G.

Yelp
Unarguably the best BBQ in town. We've had them multiple times and it's always top tier meat. Roger That puts Adams Ribs to shame. Seriously, they are not even in the same ball park. I ordered in bulk for a 30 person garden party at my house and everyone loved it, the rib meat fell off the bone and the pulled pork was juicy and delicious. Huge hit! And I fed everyone for less than $150. Really there is no comparison. Best bang for your buck! 10/10, highly recommend!

Patrick s.

Yelp
I've been here before and I thought I remembered it being better. I'm honestly disappointed. The ribs were horrible. Like way too tender. They had no bite to them. The brisket was mediocre as well. It was the better of the two I suppose. I wish they offered a variety of sauces instead it's just one that seems heavy on the molasses. It's sad that Salem can't seem to get a decent bbq joint here. There wings also weren't anything special. I was expecting some heat from the ghost pepper wings and there was none. Would I go back? Maybe. If I do it will be for a Philly. Nothing special about this place at all. Obviously this is just my opinion so go find out for yourself and try it out.

Lori M.

Yelp
wow! I'm not sure how this place has such good reviews. It's a glorified hotdog stand with extremely poor food. I should've known when I saw that there were only teenagers behind the counter like it was a McDonald's. The barbecue chicken didn't have any barbecue sauce on it, and resembled a baked potato, in fact, we thought that's what it was when they handed it over to us. The french fries were probably frozen bag from winco, at least that's what they looked like. The food was lukewarm ! if we weren't absolutely starving we would've asked for a refund and left. One of the worst places I've ever ever eaten at.

Benjamin M.

Yelp
Headed over to this place on a weekend. It was a bit hard to find as it is set back from Brush College Road. Ordered two Wimpy burgers (one spicy) with a side of BBQ Beans, and a special Brisket sandwich with Mac and Cheese inside the sandwich, and an order of fries with Cajun seasoning. The space was a smallish room with long, picnic-style tables. You lined up to order at a counter with the busy kitchen behind. Ordering was quick and the food came out fairly quickly even though they were quite busy. The Wimpy burgers were delicious! Juicy, with a hint of smoke, the burgers had plenty of sauce and cheese. And at only $2 each, a bargain! The beans were also great, in a smoky/sweet sauce that contained pieces of tender meat along with the beans. The fries were good, and the Cajun seasoning a nice addition. The brisket was rich and meaty, and the sauce that came with it was delicious, similar to the beans with a sweet/smoky profile. The mac and cheese added some cheesiness, but I think it detracted from the sandwich as a whole. All in all, a hearty and very satisfying lunch! I will definitely be back, both for the Wimpy burgers and to sample more of the BBQ meat offerings.

Richard H.

Yelp
First off I would like to say we have been going to Rodger That many times , and it's usually amazing but this time it was just okay which was surprising. We ordered our usual Whimpy burgers that are always good, cheesy bread which was also good.... Then we ordered a half rack of ribs which seemed skimpy for the price.. the worst thing we got was brisket tacos that seemed to have a lot of fat. In fact, it was mostly fat. Hardly any brisket. I would probably weed the fat out before I made tacos loaded with fat. Won't be ordering those again. We didn't really take pictures or whatever but we were disappointed.....tried to contact privately but weren't able to so had to do a yelp review.

Miranda B.

Yelp
Ahhhh-mazing BBQ! Get there early, they run out fast. The ribs are slow cooked and juicy. There seating available outside that's if you make it out with food left to eat. Yummmm!

Paula S.

Yelp
Food is excellent and the owner is so sweet. Need to get there early they sell out of almost everything! But it's so worth it.

Jody T.

Yelp
Boring bbq. There is far better just a couple blocks away. Overcooked, dry, average sauce that isn't any better than grocery stores. Salem has far better BBQ to offer.

Kevin C.

Yelp
bomb as heck. best thing ever. 10/10. ReminDs me of Texas definitely coming back. I had a brisket sandwich and took 6 bites and was full. plenty left over.

Ian B.

Yelp
I'm upset that I didn't know about this place sooner. We took our food togo from a very upbeat and helpful staff. My son and daughter loved their burgers. The sides worked but the ribs, brisket and bbq beef were outrageously delicious and kindly selected by the very sweet young woman at the register. We will be back soon!

Brenda F.

Yelp
So disappointed! I've been craving bbq chicken for quite some time. I can't bbq at home so it's a special treat for this "lady on a tight budget". Went in yesterday @ 3pm (open noon to 5pm) and ordered the combo to go; bbq chicken breast, fries and slaw. I didn't even leave the parking lot...the fries portion was small, cold and not all were cooked through. The bbq chicken was dry; maybe I should know better because it's a breast? Slaw was small and "so so" in taste. Luckily I added bbq sauce to my chicken before I left the restaurant, it helped a little w/the dryness. Stuff ain't cheap these days so when I do make a decision to order food (and tip; always tip!) it's because I wanted something special.

Matt Z.

Yelp
I'm always on the lookout for good BBQ, this place has it. The wimpy burger is awesome. Stop by if you're in the area.

Ben S.

Yelp
This is my favorite BBQ that I've found in Oregon. Possibly a tie with Pete's meats in Oregon city brewing. I live in Central Oregon but any time I'm coming through Salem I make sure to stop here and try to time it around lunch. I love that it's always a little smoky in the dining room. The place just smells delicious. The brisket and ribs are always perfect. I've never eaten anything here that wasn't outstanding. I wish central Oregon had a decent BBQ but it's all pretty much a joke. I often make motorcycle rides to Salem just to have lunch here in the summer. It's that good! I'm actually kind of glad that I don't live closer to this place because I'd weigh 300 pounds I need to hear every single day I swear.

Jay L.

Yelp
Super good food. The brisket was just a tad dry but other than that it was super good. The barbecue beans and coleslaw hands-down probably the best I've ever had. Would go back again and again and I will def tell others.

James R.

Yelp
I got smoked brisket tacos the brisket is dry no flavor I bought the hush puppies hush puppies had no salt or sugar to taste playing the only thing that was good was the prime rib sandwich but they gave me a zoo that was five times salty dinners ever should be so you know just had them all around and not a good experience I'm a send pictures and let you know this is what it is

Travis R.

Yelp
The pork ribs are awesome. I got brisket, pretty good 7/10, pulled pork little dry 6/10 (I'm keto by the way so this is with no sauce). My wife on the other hand got the pork ribs and I was immediately jealous. I would come back for the pork ribs any day (I will be), this is certainly what they do best.

Brian F.

Yelp
When we walked into this place a 1pm we were third in line at the counter. After us there were a few more people but since there's been no line at all. We ended up waiting 48 minutes for one plate of food that my wife and I split. That was pretty disappointing. We had the brisket and pulled pork plate with veggies and their corn side. The brisket was good but half of it was fat. The pork was good but also fatty. The corn was my choice and super bland. I thought it was going to be like elote but instead it just tasted like corn in cream. The veggies were green beans with bacon chunks and were good. The plate with a soda was $30.

Janet H.

Yelp
Best freaking brisket ever. Pulled pork is also delicious. I don't get too excited about their sides, it's all about the meat.

Mark A.

Yelp
The best BBQ I've had. I ordered some plates for the whole family and everything was so good. The highlights: - The brisket was easily the best I've ever had. Brisket done poorly can get a little chewy and tough, but this brisket was so tender I didn't even need a knife to cut it. Amazing. - The pulled pork was not hands-down THE best I've ever had, but it's definitely up there for consideration as #1. - Baked beans? Best I've ever had. - The ribs were practically falling off the bone and so tender. The only bad parts were: - The chicken in the chicken sandwiches I bought were definitely dry. - I saw some of the workers putting our food together doing so without gloves. Eww. - I called in the order on the phone, and was told it'd be ready in about 20-25 minutes. I showed up to the restaurant right around 25 minutes later, but the order wasn't ready for about another 20 minutes on top of that. But yea, I will 100% be coming back here soon, since I only live about a mile away. I guess I'm a bit grateful that they're only open 4 days a week, and limited hours at that, otherwise I'd be coming in here multiple times a week!

Yelp
Best brisket in town! Wish i had bought more than 1lb of brisket. Definitely tender and well seasoned too! I get why with their limited hours they are packed- its worth the wait! RT bbq you've earned yourself another loyal customer :) Yelp you did it again. Thanks for a great recommendation!

Yelp
Best bbq in Salem, hands down! Be sure to get there early before they sell out. That would be tragic.

Yelp
The moist extremely tasty, tender ribs, brisket . All of the meats are delectable. Sandwiches are so delicious, chicken, pork. Very yummy. You can't go wrong in any of their food you order. PS the fried dill pickles

Yelp
Decent BBQ But the average wait on a slow day is about 30 min, Even for to go orders These dudes need to figure out how to reduce these long wait times when volume is so low.

Yelp
Great bbq! We came at a time when they had sold out of ribs. I had the brisket instead. Delicious! It was very tender with a good sized portion. The bbq sauce was a great compliment to the meat. Not too spicy. Not too bitter. It was perfect. The fries were also nice and crisp crinkle cut without being greasy. I will definitely be a rerun customer.

Yelp
Best BBQ in Salem! Get the greats before they're sold out! Delicious sides and the wimpy burgers are off the chain!

Yelp
There are things about Salem that are just odd. I can't even put my finger on it. It has a vibe. It is not hipster like Portland, not Stepfordy like Bethany where I live, not hippie like Eugene, not folksy like Corvallis. It is not cool like Bend...I don't know. It is kind of a Grimm thing. Like there are vesen lurking around corners. And it seems stuck in another decade. The 70's maybe. My ex and I were in Salem with time to kill having dropped the teens off at an anime con. It was in Keizer. Everything close by was a chain. Meh. Sushi? I said. Naw, he said. (* note: if you love sushi make for damn sure the person you marry and have progeny or even share pets with does too. I epically failed at this.) We ultimately settled on barbecue. And then we looked on yelp and drove into the boonies for a few miles This BBQ place is open part time ( Thursday- Sunday, each day until they run out) in a building that is more like a grange or Elks lodge or something of that ilk. There is a sign that says "BBQ" with an arrow out front. There is a small parking lot in front of the nondescript brown building. Headed into the nondescript building the ex was doubtful. Are you sure? he asked. Really? Then we smelled it. That BBQ meat smell. Ok then. Inside there is a small restaurant type space. It has long tables with attached benches or metal chairs. There are rolls of paper towels and baskets of plastic utensils. You order at the counter and the food comes out on paper on a plastic tray. They have made some effort to make it cute. We ordered two pulled pork sandwiches. They come on a big roll with two crispy tempura onion rings and a side. We chose baked beans and cheesey hash brown casserole. ( it was a special). We could have split a sandwich, but since we didn't expect it to be enormous we each took half home. The hash browns were ok, kinda salty, the beans were delicious. The onion rings were deemed too greasy by the ex, I liked them. I wished the sandwiches had slaw on them but the pork was smoky, tender, with a good bark and not too mushy, stringy, or fatty which sometimes ruins pulled pork. It was good. Nice smoke. It did not need sauce but their sauce is good. Not too sweet. Not too spicy. Tasty. A weird but decent Salem BBQ experience. ( BTW the brisket, ribs, chicken, and burgers looked good too). P.S. We had to fill our water cups at the water fountain in the hall by the restroom. That was a little odd.

Yelp
We past this place and went back and saw the "bbq" sign. Once you open the door and walk in, you can smell the aroma of meat with bbq cooking. They just opened and people started coming in. Some ordered take out and others dined in. It's my husband and I first time here. I ordered the "wimpy" single cheeseburgers and side of fries. My husband had the brisket with two side orders. Staff was friendly and excellent service. I highly recommend this place if you are on the area or craving great bbq. .

Yelp
This was the second time in a row I got home with my take out order to find no bar b a sauce include with the bris and chicken meat. I noticed a sign that mentioned charging extra for "extra" sauce but nothing about not including any sauce unless you ask! The brisket and the chicken breast did not have the good flavors that we had come to except from Roger That, I thought they were very bland. Not sure if it's the wood used or the procedure?! The coleslaw and potato salad were pretty much as usual and the baked beans were very good. Overall we were very disappointed in our meal! Next time I think we'll head up to Buster's in Tigard for our bar b a meal! Mike S
