LA's Best Dishes: The Infatuation's favorite meals of the week.

"I live about 500 feet from Roji, a Japanese bakery on La Brea that churns out baked goods that taste just as good as they look, which means I’m there often (maybe too often). On most days, I go with the honest intention of just getting a “dirty” Thai iced coffee, but I almost always end up walking out with a handful of pastries. And I almost never regret it. Before hitting the road for Colorado last week, I ordered a box full of baked goods that included a potato croquette pan, a curry pan, and a melon pan with custard cream. I also got their seasonal purple sweet potato danish, a cranberry, cheese, and walnut bread (which is straight-up like a bread and cheese course stuffed into one loaf), and a Roji staple: an almond cookie-encased chocolate croissant. That seems like a lot, I know, but it’s like 15 hours to Colorado. - Anikah Shaokat, Editorial Ops Coordinator" - the infatuation los angeles crew

Meet 10 Of LA’s Best Asian-Owned Bakeries

"Roji Bakery began as a small bakery in Kumamoto, Japan in 2006. The owner, Mr. Tokunaga, met his future business partner, Japanese-American owner Mr. Shin, and decided to collaborate on a bakery in LA, which opened in September 2019. Shin said they felt inclined to formulate the business to fit in with American culture and curate a menu with more American-influenced pastries. But over time, they realized the nostalgic comfort of their classic Japanese baked goods was starting to translate. While Asian customers were taken back to their childhoods with the curry pan and milk loaves, non-Asian customers loved trying different flavors like black sesame and matcha. With this, Shin said they felt more confident in staying authentic to their roots while also putting their own spins on classic pastries. When they first opened, they relied on passers-by to discover the shop, but when the pandemic hit, Shin used social media to promote the business. Through the virtual food community, they’ve gained a lot of traction in La Brea, and hope to continue developing those relationships both digitally and in person. Order this: The milk loaf and a few croissants." - with warm welcome, leslie yeh

Roji Bakery - Review - Beverly Grove - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Between the potato-stuffed croquettes, cranberry cheese walnut bread, and melon pan filled with sweet, sweet custard, walking into Roji Bakery is like entering the gates of heaven. That is, if heaven was filled with baked goods (we hope it is). Located in Beverly Grove, this new Japanese bakery churns out beautiful, fluffy pastries that look like they were ripped from a Pinterest mood board - and luckily, taste just as good as they look. We recommend almost everything, from curry pans to seasonal sweet purple potato danishes, but our favorite thing is a Roji staple - an almond cookie-encased chocolate croissant that’s sweet, crunchy, and combines most of the things we love in this world." - Kat Hong

This place is incredibly cute, it's a little small with a lot of passion behind it. The service is very nice and they make you feel cozy. They also sell small tickets among they're bakery and coffee options. A there's some art to view as well.

Google
Amazing Earl Grey scones and friendly service. After discovering that Roji Bakery offered Earl Grey pastries, we had to give it a try. We were hoping to get the Earl Grey rolls, but they were sold out, so we opted for the scone instead—and it was phenomenal. We also tried the matcha croissant and raspberry almond croissant, both tasty, but the Earl Grey scone easily outshined them. The service was nice, and while the prices were a bit on the high side, the scone was absolutely worth it.

It was fine. The guy who was working there seemed new. It was ok to give me a bag missing a handle. Was also missing an item but I guess I should have checked. Croissants were not very crispy.

Personally love savory bread and the mushroom and ham danish was tasty. I was too early and not all bread was ready on shelf.

I happened to be in the area and wanted something sweet so I stopped in. it's okay. I got the cinnamon roll(it was interesting. I liked it) some sort of chocolate custard filled bread(I didn't like it) and a red velvet brownie cheesecake(I found it super rich). the employee was kind and answered all my questions. they also had croissants, cookies, sandwiches, coffee, tea and other beverages. the baked goods are made each day so, that's cool. there is a small covered outdoor dining area on the sidewalk. I recommend if you're in the area.

Cute Japanese fusion bakery on La Brea. Tables on the left and bar seating on the right. AC was on, but not strong enough for my preference so I took my order to go. It was 83 degrees out and felt like 78 inside; if it was cooler, the atmosphere would be 4 or 5 stars. Service, not super friendly, but they did their job. I was lured in by photos of their almond chocolate croissant. I thought the almond shell was going to be reminiscent of the pineapple crust on a Taiwanese pineapple bun. Instead, the outer edges are soft and chewy - the burnt pieces stuck to my teeth. And each bite was confusing - so soft and lacked the distinct texture of croissant layers. In short, this croissant isn’t for me, but I wouldn’t be opposed to going back to try something else on a cooler day. Rounding up to 3 stars for better potential on a cooler day.

Google
Overall: 3.2/5 I was pretty excited to try this bakery since they had Asian inspired flavors but ended up being disappointed. We stopped by after lunch to pick up some pastries which were all pretty big. Earl Grey Scone ($4.75): This scone tastes thick in the mouth which I don't like. You also don't really taste the earl grey unless you heat up the pastry. The white chocolate also doesn't add any sweetness really and is also better heated up since you get that nice melted texture. Matcha Croissant ($5.25): This was better than the scone but is pretty average for a croissant. I do like the matcha and outer crust though so maybe it would have been better heated up.

Yelp
It is the best bakery in the area, all pastries and coffee are amazing. This service top, they are always so nice. And they are baguette really the best one ever! I could just point at one thing, maybe the beans by the entrance could be improved. Thank you all!

Yelp
I was super excited to check out this spot as I discovered their pastries at another coffee shop in Santa Monica. The inside is very inviting with some tables to sit and eat both on the inside and the outside of the bakery. It's got a casual and rustic atmosphere and you can see all the assortment of pastries on display. Parking can get tough, it's street or neighborhood parking mostly in the area off of a busy street (La Brea). Service was pretty fast, they're helpful especially if you're buying multiple pastries. Matcha roll: 5/5 - loved this the most. Great matcha flavor but not overpowering, just the right level of sweetness for me and also balanced (not too dense or too light on the dough). A real winner! Cheese edamame roll: 5/5 - I really liked this a lot, they use it for some of their sandwich items and I took mine home to have with cream cheese. A great alternative to a bagel and with the bits of edamame inside I found it pleasantly filling! Yuzu Americano: 4/5 - the juice/coffee blend is popular in South Korea (they do orange juice or peach tea with coffee) so if you're not a fan of that unique mix you will not like this. But I really enjoy the blend of flavor, a good alternative to adding sugar. The Yuzu was delicate and the balance to the americano was the right amount for me! Some of the misses: Azpan: 3/5 - I expected a sweeter roll but this ended up tasting more savory (and actually it kind of had savory pizza crust flavor which made me wonder whether this was made with the same pizza dough or in a similar oven to the pizza). There also wasn't a lot of flavor on the fillings (I love red bean but it wasn't sweet and you couldn't tell there was cream cheese in it. French onion danish: 2/5 - this one was unfortunately a miss for me. The dough wasn't flaky like I expected (really dense) and the filling didn't taste good to me at all (tasted a bit artificial like it was using some French onion seasoning mix vs fresh filling). I wouldn't get this again. All in all a good spot with both hits and misses but worth it for the items that hit! I've had several of their croissants before too and those ones are winners so stick to those when you visit.

Yelp
A cute Japanese-inspired bakery off of a busy street with street parking only. Fortunately, the neighborhood allows for 1-2 hours free parking, but it is shared with quite a few other businesses and restaurants in the area. Service was ok. I was not greeted immediately when I walked in, but when they did acknowledge me, they were pleasant. 1. Curry Pan (3.5/5) Similar to a curry croquette. It's slightly crispy on the outside, yet the dough was chewy on the inside. Texture of the bread was decent, but I have to say the curry filling inside was under-performing. The curry was too salty and too starchy/thick. You can see in the photo that it clumps up instead of being melty and evenly dispersed throughout the inside of the bread. I like the corn they added inside as gave it a subtle, buttery taste. 2. Black Sesame Anpan (4/5) This is a combination of black sesame and red asuki bean. If you like black sesame and red bean, this is for you. I like that the bread itself is smooth, soft and airy. The black sesame-red bean filling inside was not too sweet, but yet the combination of flavor really stood out. Minus 1 star only because for some reason, the dough was a bit bitter. I like the black sesame seeds on the outside of the bun as it added a nice toasti-ness flavor 3. Edamame Cheese Bun (5/5) You have to eat this bread warm to enjoy the most out of it. On its own, the bread is moist and full of its cheesy fragrance. The addition of edamame to the bread is quite a unique concept. You don't really taste the edamame, but it gives the bread that bean-like texture. Overall, this is a must try 4. Truffle Avocado on Edamame Cheese Bread (1/5) If you are a truffle lover, the name alone catches your attention. You would think after a 5/5 rating on the edamame cheese bun on its own would make this a star combo, sadly, that was not the case. There were hardly any truffle flavor at all. I think the only truffle flavoring comes from the truffle salt that they sprinkle on top of the avocado, which made it a bit too salty (and this is coming from a savory person). The avocado was super creamy and it just overpowered the cheese flavor of the edamame cheese bread and ruined the overall texture as well. The edamame cheese bread on its own was moist already, so with all that avocado slathered on top, literally, all you taste is the rich creaminess of the avocado with a bit of a dull crunch from the crushed walnuts that they add on top. It was a good experience, but would not get again. 4. Black Sesame Croissant (5/5) WOW - easily my favorite. The croissant had such flakey layers and was sooo full of fragrant sesame flavor from the white and black seeds on the outside and from the black sesame paste on the inside. When toasted, it is just a toasty sesame heaven. 5. Matcha Almond Croissant (2/5) There's so much potential here. The almond cookie texture on top of the croissant had a very stale texture. I am not sure if it's just not fresh or it needs some work. The almond flavoring was underwhelming and you can barely taste any matcha from the lightly sprinkled matcha powder on top. The matcha cream on the inside was much better, but it was too minimal to make any impact on the overall flavor. They also added a few pieces of white chocolate on top, which was unnecessary. It just gave it more sweetness, which on its own, was already pretty sweet. I hope they will work more on this and bring out its potential. 6. Black Sesame Almond Croissant (3/5) Another wonderful concept combining the normally much loved almond croissant with black sesame seeds and black sesame paste. Unfortunately, it did not meet my expectation. I think again, the almond cookie part of it destroyed it (too stale). The croissant did not have the same flakiness as the black sesame croissant because of the staleness of the almond cookie part. The almond cookie part did not contrast the black sesame paste flavor well -- both were sweet on their own, so when combined, it just felt too sweet and chewy. I will stick to the Black sesame croissant without the almond part next time. They do have a good amount of black sesame paste inside this croissant, so glad they were not skimpy on the filling here. Overall, I like their unique flavors and will be back to try more.

Yelp
Super cute bakery. I got an iced matcha and it was strong and good. I tried the curry pan and almond croissant. Both were delicious. I'd go back and buy a whole box of curry pan if I could

Yelp
I drove about almost 30 minutes to try these because the food looked good! Even though the ambience and look of it is pretty, as we were looking to order the food we saw flies flying in the food display. I'm kinda disappointed because I was really excited to try it but I was so grossed out after seeing that!

Yelp
Food: Not going to lie, I saw the matcha cinnamon roll on TikTok and immediately went to the bakery the next morning LOL. Loved the tuna fried onion musubi and matcha cinnamon roll, but the ham and cheese croissant was disappointing. I'd recommend the curry bun as a savory option. I want to try the dirty Thai tea next time. Service: It could've been better -- I wasn't really impressed. Nobody offered to help me with anything and it was my first time visiting. Ambiance: Cute place, has WiFi and tables if you want to work remotely (tables are a bit small though FYI)

Yelp
I really want to like this place. It really nice and clean on the inside and a lot of items on the menu look real good. The staff here were very kind. Today I ordered a Blueberry Lemon Scone and unfortunately I didn't taste the blueberry or lemon in the pastry. For my drink I had a Latte as usual but for some reason this drink had a fishy scent to it every time I would go to drink it and I thought it was my hands or something else but I popped the lid to my drink and would smell the scent coming from the coffee and i was put off by it. However, I'm not giving up on the spot. I would like to come back and try the pizzas and give a different drink a try. Parking is very minimal.

Yelp
Black sesame desserts?! Yes please! We tried a bunch of these for my birthday celebrations. My favorite was the black sesame bun. Wasn't a huge fan of the croissant, which was quite dry.
google avatar

Misa O.

Yelp
I doordashed these about a half hour ago and I had to write a review immediately because the Matcha Roll changed lives (mine). The roll had a strong matcha flavor, bread was fluffy and chewy, and it was the perfect sweetness. The Black Sesame Croissant was also delicious and had a strong sesame flavor, but was just small for the price. The Cinnamon Apple Danish was just okay. Very bready. COME HERE for the matcha roll though!! I will be back.

Yelp
A cute Japanese-owned bakery in LA. I wanted to try everything, so I got a few pastries and sandwiches. The pastries are good, but nothing special. I got a fruit sandwich because I absolutely love the fresh fruit and whipped cream sandwiches in Japan, but it fell short. The whipped cream wasn't light and fluffy, but more like an American and Japanese whipped cream mix. In addition, their items are on the pricier side for the portions they give.
google avatar

Erika T.

Yelp
Cute and quiet bakery. There are a lot of other pastry options but we got the chocolate almond croissant. I like how there is a cookie top layer which adds to the sweetness of it. The semi sweet chocolate inside helped balance the sweetness with the cookie. The size was a bit small in my opinion but overall still good. Didn't taste the almond as much as I expected. I wouldn't complain though since I wouldn't want it to overpower the chocolate croissant part. I would come again if I was craving a sweet treat and wanted some unique options!
google avatar

Lele S.

Yelp
Cute Japanese bakery and cafe. They have indoor and outdoor seating. There's street parking but not much. Some people work here in the mornings. The items are a bit pricy but I don't come here often so I'll pick up a few things when Im in the area. The hojicha latte isn't too sweet which I love. The bread smells really fragrant and taste fresh out the oven. The pastries have a wonderful flavor profile. I can actually taste the matcha, earl grey, and lavender flavors in them. Would def be coming back to try their hot sandwiches and pizzas one day!
google avatar

Yelp
Not doing any research, but the look and feel entering the bakery could already tell me it's been there for awhile. Yeah, that kind of local long-standing bakery which I bet are lots of people favorite to-go based on how long its existence has been. The interior was simple, classic, and could tell not much changes have been made. Coming on Sunday afternoon, you might have guessed it right that the showcase was near being empty. Many have been sold out, but I was lucky they still had the chocolate almond croissant I wanna try. The size was quite petite compared to common ones, but the generous chocolate filling and the deliciously crunchy almond layer on top would be called the winners! I also loved how it looked simple but the taste was simply comforting. I would surely go back to try more and next time would make it earlier in the day to get the complete selection!

Yelp
I love coming here! The staff is truely welcoming and everything is cooked / baked here ! It tastes so yummy !!! It's the best coffee shop / bakery shop in the area. Republique is amazing too but the service is long there's always a long line! Here, it's quick and fast!

Yelp
Exceptional place that proves marketing is almost everything. No reason the line shouldn't be down the block. Beautiful, spotless place with stunning energy. Beautiful pastries that all look like each was very very carefully and individually prepared. All I got to try were the pastries but they were amazing. Uniquely delicious croissants, especially the chocolate almond. Never had one quite like it. Blueberry scone was flaky and delicate but bursting with flavor. If you haven't had milk bread yet, you are missing out on an essential food group. Uh-mazing. I didn't get to try their pizzas, as It was way too early to get one, but it's now a life goal. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
I was looking for onigiri reviews but i ordered anyway. AMAZING, the croissant was so savory. i loved it, i wish it had more mayo but that's only because my fatahh loves extra mayo lol. Thank you! i hope to come in person(:

Yelp
The patries are unique and the taste and favors are divine. The patries are not cheap but the patries are so good, the cost is worth every penny.

Yelp
Cute and yummy bakery/cafe. Their decor is really cute. They have paper cutouts on their shelves and wicker baskets with croissants. Their prices are also affordable, and service is very courteous. I had the breakfast sandwich on the cheese edamame bread. The eggs were delicious and food was super fresh. They use dijon or whole grain mustard for the egg salad, which is not my favorite, but overall a good and filling meal.
google avatar

Yelp
Tastes like home Love this tiny LA bakery. Their Japanese flavor palate is amazing paired with some traditionally French pastries. Croissants are a favorite-flaky buttery and crispy!! I love the almond and/or chocolate but their plain are a stand alone delight. Their portable quiches are superb -no crust but made with bread incorporated into the egg mixture; they are the stuff of dreams! But if you want a special treat, take a loaf of milk bread or cinnamon bread home. You'll never eat any other toast once you've buttered the milk bread! I make French toast with their cinnamon loaf -DIVINE The owner and her servers are kind and helpful. Such a cozy welcoming place!

Yelp
A small bakery with some unique flavored croissants such as black sesame and matcha. Unlike most bakeries that are usually very bright, Roji's interior was dim and feels more like a cafe/bar vibe. I tried a couple of croissants, Apple cinnamon danish, and peach tart (total of $21 for 4 pastries - a bit pricy). The danish was the best of them all; the croissants had good flavors, but not as buttery and crunchy; the peach tart was a bit too sweet but had a good amount of fruit on it. Glad that I stopped by and overall enjoyed the treats!

Yelp
I was looking for a good baguette to make Jambon Beurre with. The Baguette was good on flavor. $6. 10" seems pretentious for a baguette.

Yelp
I highly recommend coming here to get their black sesame almond croissant. It was really good and ask the workers to warm it up for you. I really love this bakery, and I can really taste the black sesame in this croissant, it was one of the best croissants I've ever had. I would go back here and try their baked goods. They had really good seating inside two to do some work if you're in the mood for that, and really awesome lunch/brunch places nearby.

Yelp
Absolutely favorite bakery in Southern California. The pastries are Japanese flavors my favorites are the matcha roll, almond matcha crossiant and matcha cookie! Their sandwiches are to die for also and don't get me started on their curry pan! The owner Mizuki is an absolutely amazing person, so kind, talent and hardworking at making the freshest pastries for her customers. A must stop by if you're in the area!

Yelp
Roji has some of the best baked items. They also have savory items as well. The place is so cute with a few tables and a long counter to look at all the stuff you want. Their croissants are our favorite. They have so many flavors. The plain is great. We also just love the savory cheese and ham croissants. We enjoy their coffee very much and it is priced fairly. Their scones are also some of our favorites. The place is very clean and the service is so friendly. It can get a bit crowded but the line moves fast. You will really enjoy this bakery.

Yelp
Really delicious pastries and drinks! I had a dirty Thai iced tea, which is Thai milk tea with a shot of espresso. The red bean & cream cheese bun was great. Everything was not too sweet, which I really appreciate. Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
The coffee and bakery store is very spacious inside, with cozy outdoor seating as well. They sell variety choices of croissants, although the drip coffee tasted so plain and watery.

Yelp
The best bakery off of La Brea blvd in the Mid City area of Los Angeles. I am here for the first time at Roji. I love the Chocolate chip Crossants and Almond croisssants. Nice place as we sat inside and enjoyed our snacks. Cool thing is that i am familiar with all of the food and snacks. Nice owners and workers here. I would visit again.

Yelp
Just discovered Roji Bakery and I'm obsessed! Get the edamame cheese bread. It's one of those things that you're unsure about but you can't stop taking bites of--it's so good. Oh, it also has somewhat of a chewiness to it that I also quite enjoy. The milk loaf (shokupan) is fluffy and can be eaten alone, with some fruit spread or butter, or as part of a sandwich. It's versatile and adds such a wonderful flavor to whatever you're enjoying. The cinnamon loaf is like their play on a cinnamon roll--but in my opinion--it's better. Just remember that everything is made fresh, so either refrigerate or freeze if you don't plan to eat it in a few days. I made the mistake of leaving the bread out and it unfortunately went bad before I could finish it. I won't make the same mistake next time! Now I'm absolutely craving that edamame cheese bread!

Yelp
Hubby wanted to try Roji since we were in the area. Inside looks Lome it needs a paint job & a work in progress re decor. There were two workers at counter..I didn't hear a greeting when we entered ( we were the only ones inside) but Hubby said he heard a greeting..ok! The display case was half full( see I'm being positive! Lol) It was around 1230ish. Nothing jumped out as appealing to me. Hubby got the Blueberry and a pineapple muffin? He can't remember! Lol Anyway, we tasted them.when we got home..both were a little soggy but flavorful. Perhaps we will try again..but Earlier! They do have a pizza oven & a Terriyaki burger in the menu!

Jeff G.

Yelp
I have been to Tokyo several times, so I was excited to try this place based on reviews. I walked in and found it to be like the service: ugly. Totally not appealing in any way. It looked messy and smelled (and not in a good, bakery way). You'll find that it is totally lacking in any type of ambiance, unless of course you live under a bridge. Spend a few more dollars and go across the street to Republic for much better decor, ambiance, service and baked goods. Speaking of the food here: I asked the stony and terse cashier behind the counter what was most popular item. She suggested the matcha croissant, which I was excited to try despite her nurse Ratchet demeanor. But I truly wish I hadn't purchased it b/c it was the worse croissant ever! It looked as bad as it tasted. Sometimes you try new places and they are hit or miss. This was a total miss!

Alejandra B.

Yelp
LOVEEE all their almond croissant pastries, especially the black sesame one. They have so many options that I have yet to try, but they have a good mix of savory and sweet items for sale. Everything tasted super fresh.

Some of the best and unique food you will find in LA. It has a small town feel. I love the toasted garlic baguette. It's REAL food baked onsite. I won't eat packaged foods so I love coming here. Also it has a front seating area on a Main Street with bustling business and feels great. If you love fresh baked then you must come here.

Yelp
Let's just say I hope this business succeeds BIG TIME but at the same time I wish not many people would know this place.. their (sweet) pastries are so tasty and balanced: not too sweet and the dough is so buttery and flaky. Parking was a bit tricky but I found street parking on a Tuesday morning around 9:30am.

Yelp
I have been here a few times for the Matcha cookies and croissants. Pastries are delicious, but their attitudes are not very friendly. So, needless to say I will take my business elsewhere. There is always a better bakery with a owner and staff that appreciates good customers.

Yelp
I'm so glad that Republique closes early because it forced me to find this lovely Japanese (fusion) spot! Roji Bakery is apparently a Japanese import with a LA flair to it. Mainly, I was on a croissant kick and the ones here did not disappoint! Mini Almond Croissant - Not too sweet, perfect almond flour crust with the right amount of almond slivers. I can't wait to get a regular size and try other variations next time. Matcha Croissant - Perfectly flaky and covered with matcha dust. There was a bit of white chocolate filling inside. Dirty Thai Iced Tea - Single shot of espresso sitting in Thai iced tea. Not too sweet and still able to wake the dead, I am addicted! Small batches of pastries came out during the time my friends and I chatted there, tempting me each time. Highly recommend checking out Roji Bakery!

Yelp
I was excited to try this spot because of the Japanese baked goods. Overall the items I got were mediocre at a high price point (average $4-5 per pastry) but the service was friendly and there's outdoor seating + a bathroom. Items I got: Mini almond croissant: it was dry and semi-stale but the almond flavor was nice. A bit disappointing since this is one of their more popular items. Curry pan: it didn't have the crisp exterior I was looking for, the curry inside was OK, but was on the dry side. It came warm so that was nice. Overall I wouldn't come back here, but they had a good variety of baked goods to try. I came around noon and items looked a bit sparse at that point.

Yelp
A super lovely mom and pop style bakery located in an unexpected neighborhood! The first thing I noticed when I stepped in was the smell. You can smell the freshly baked goods, which is always a good sign when entering a bakery. The workers were super kind and helpful. I got a croissant, a matcha almond croissant, an earl grey scone, and a matcha white chocolate chip cookie! What I really appreciated about the pastries was that they weren't overly sweet. Everything had a nice balance of flavors, but my favorite was definitely the matcha cookie. First of all, it was a hefty cookie (the size of my hand)! It also had a perfect balance of sweetness, yet bitterness from the matcha. I personally can't wait to go back and try all of their different goodies.

Yelp
I read about Roji Bakery on Eater LA's list of bakeries and I'm in the area from time to time and figured to give it a few tries. Love croissants and this bakery was known for good baked goods. Roji's croissants are double baked with crusted coating on top. Chocolate chip exterior with dark chocolate inside was good but not great. I think the double baking to get the crusted coating tends to make for a dryer and stiffer croissant. Something, I didn't care for. The matcha powder topped croissant with white chocolate inside was good also but not great. Actually, the croissants are fairly price and a bit tiny. What I did like here are the cookies . The chocolate chip and walnut cookie. The cookie itself is under 5 bucks but has ample chips and nuts. I'd rather come here for the cookies than the pastries and breads. Located in La Brea just south of Wilshire, this bakery is pretty easy to miss. La Brea is heavily travelled and easy to drive past by and miss this place. Street parking could be a bit tough also. So, if you're an outsider from this area, it may be an effort to visit. Worth a try if you're in the vicinity.

Yelp
Unlike Adrienne D, I'm capable enough to mix my own drink and not think twice about it. Things change and I've seen it, this is my favorite bakery, I know prices changed and I also understand the cost of supplies and why I'm paying 4 dollars for a delicacy that not only is really enjoyable but also unhealthy to eat 2 back to back with a coffee. So, I find it a fair trade off to not over indulge because every pastry they have in there is 4.5 out 5 every time. Don't waste your time here if donuts and bags of bread is your guilty pleasure. You're in control of how you want your coffee, everyone should know that and all locations will follow their own standards until you intervene so SPEAK UP on how you'd like your coffee, maybe and before they actually pour you a cup? 19.50 for the meal. I found it worth it and realized I'd like a bit less milk in my coffee as well.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place more. The place had character but no vibe. The staff seemed disinterested and there was no music playing when I stopped by on the way to the office on a weekday morning. Maybe I'm just put off by "you touch, you buy" signs, too, because it feels like they assume I don't have adult manners, but I guess LA is used to having all the rules laid out. So, how did they earn these stars? There's baking talent here. I ordered the matcha croissant, and I am ensuring to put my matcha bias aside. We all know matcha doesn't actually taste that good to American taste buds, we are just being trendy. But the structure of this thing was an absolute marvel. The crunch on the outside and chew on the inside almost made it worth getting that green powder all over my dress pants. Just, yeah, next time, ordering the chocolate almond.

Yelp
This will become my new neighborhood spot! Each pastry was about five dollars each, so expensive to me, but, I think those are just the standard prices in LA now. I loved the purple potato quiche, and the earl Grey scone. I also ordered a corn quiche, probably don't need to try that one again, very simple, old French café/minimalist style. A few people were working from inside.

Yelp
Ended up here after it was a long wait at Met Her at A Bar. Amazing find! It wasn't too busy and the food was delicious. I didn't realize it was an Asian fusion cafe and got so excited when I saw the menu! Highly recommend coming if you are in the area. We got thai iced teas and an almond croissant

Yelp
Caveat that I ordered delivery so no comments on decor, vibe, parking, or staff (though there was a friendly "thank you!" on my pastry bag. 3 stars is a little unfair; I would really give it 3.5. The reason it's not higher is because the lavender latte tasted like watered down milk with some lavender flavor and I ended up throwing it down the drain. The "Pennsylvania style sweet sauce pizza" initially piqued my interest, being from a place in PA where that means something. I had to try it even though my bar is low for pizza in LA generally. This was surprisingly really good, even though it's not "PA style" necessarily but I doubt many people on here care about that! I loved the crust and would definitely get the pizza again. Against the recommendations of others, I did not try a croissant as they are not typically my thing but I did get the chocolate banana danish which was on a croissant bottom. It was good but wouldn't get it again. I would give this place another shot and try one of the croissants and avocado toast on the cheese bread. I saw some reviews hinting that this place would be an alternative to Republique's pastries. I would not say that, at least not based on my experiences at both places.

Yelp
I'm sorta loathe to post this as Roji Bakery is a best kept secret with by far the most delicious and authentic croissant in the neighborhood. Flakey layers of buttery goodness offer just the right crunch factor, especially in the morning when they're fresh out of the oven. These are no bloated, white bread americanized version of the French croissant, they're the real deal. Coffee is great too. I recommend the cold brew. Sit outside and watch the world go by on La Brea before you get back in your car. Who knows, maybe you'll even meet a neighbor? Save me a mini please.
