Rojo Bistrot

The place was nice. It really gives the vibes of a French bistro. I’m giving this place a 3 stars because the Filete Sonora was not good. The filete has quite a few chewy and fat parts, the knife was not sharp at all, I tested it on my thumb and couldn’t cut myself, the meat itself was pretty bland. On the other hand the Mejillones were excellent, the fries and salad as well very good. The creme brulee was just ok.

Duck magnet is perfect. Pork belly with a special sauce was melting in my mouth.l highly recommend this place.

Second visit: Ordered Pechuga de Pollo al Limón ($290 MX) and Chuleta de Cordero con Humus ($540 MX). We were hungry and ordered quickly around 3pm (two hours after opening), but we waited almost quite some time for our food. The bread they brought us (twice) was not warmed, we asked for it to be toasted they kindly complied. The aioli that comes with the bread is flavorful.You can see the portion sizes from the photos, but this is “fine dinning”. The lamb chop was grilled to a perfect temperature but the burn marks carried a strong charred taste. The pollo was a delicious dish for the price and I recommend it. My first experience here the food was acceptable. Both times the atmosphere has been wonderful and the neighborhood is very charming. I came here originally after hearing of such great food. Perhaps I came on a couple of bad days. If you must know, I’m not a fresa, just a normal guy looking for good quality food. 3 stars bc I have hope for rojo bistró and will likely give them another try to update this rating.

A nice place to have a longer lunch. We had a celebration here and the food was mostly good. The service was nice and personal. The staff was quick with the orders, depending on the food that was ordered.

Cute little French restaurant that serves up classic continental fare. A bit pricey (for Mexico) but very reasonable in comparison to US. The food is presented well and is tasty. I'll be back.

Amazing French food! I loved all the food!! The moon soup, the Sicilian salad, the steak and frites, everything was great ! Would come back here!

The food is delicious and prepared fresh! They give you plenty of fresh baked bread. The portions are great. I ordered a soup and sandwich which fed two. The cappuccino was made perfectly. It's alittle pricey but I thought it was worth it. I highly recommend.

Excellent service and intimate atmosphere. The Moroccan soup was very flavorful and the stuffed chicken was delicious. I would definitely go back. They also had very good wine which we were having difficulty finding.

Great place to sit and enjoy beautiful tree lined Amsterdam street. Good delicous frenchy food, good wine selection We had a dish beef marinated on a bone which was very tender. A lot of street sellers that come and go which is a bother since they don't leave you until told so. That's why I would recommend to sit inside since they're forbidden to come.

We came in just before closing on a Tuesday night and they couldn't have been more welcoming and gracious to not have us feel rushed. That in and of itself set a great tone, but the food was off the charts. The salmon was as delicious as any I've had (here with a hint of maple), the lentil soup was perfection, and my pear salad had the perfect and robust amount of blue cheese and greens. The place wi warm, with an ambience of dark wood, elegant, charming, and intimate. We'll return.

As always, we try to look for that one place to have that last great meal before leaving any city we're visiting. The owner of the Red Tree House suggested Rojo, said this was probably a restaurant we'd really like, and he was right. Not too far from the RTH, the walk along Amsterdam is nice and I can't believe there was so much more in and around this great neighborhood. Warm and friendly greeting when we walked in. Nice atmosphere...we opted for a table inside, but they do have a nice patio in front. Our server was friendly and as always, "Lo siento, mi Espanol no es muy bueno." She just smiled and said it was okay but proceeded to speak to us in Spanish. Even telling us the Spanish equivalent for each thing we ordered, which I thought was a great help for me. I ordered the pear salad with gorgonzola, walnuts, and a delicious passion fruit dressing....very good! The partner had the lentil soup with ginger and cardamon which he said was amazing!!! I then ordered the special chicken with cilantro pesto over rice, which was delicious, but I did wish there were some vegetables with it. The partner had the Pechuga de Pollo al Limón which was really good and came with mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. We would've ordered dessert but the starters were big and there wasn't any room believe it or not. I would've came back to this place had we found it earlier. Definitely worth coming to. Can't wait to come back when I return!

We had made a reservation but when we got there they stuck us outside which was cold and a smoking section. Luckily we were able to get inside before we ordered our meal. Service was inattentive. The beef carpaccio did not come out like it was described on the menu. When we asked about it the server said he would check but never came back with an answer. We were left without drinks for a while. We ordered the Duck confit and Pork Belly. Both were flavorful and well prepared. The duck was crispy and succulent but still hung to the bone. The pork belly was a little on the tough side or maybe it was that we didn't have a sharp knife to cut it. For the price they charge there are many better places around La Condesa and Roma that will take better care on the service and deliver better food.

Disappointed. Not much like a French bistrot. Short ribs somewhat bland. Good salad and fish. Pleasant ambiance in a lovely neighborhood.

Excellent place-nice atmosphere and some very tasty and well prepared dishes.The Salmon carpaccio was fantastic and a risotto special delicious.nice presentation as well.good service and very reasonable prices...especially coming from California! Muchos gracias!!!

for our last meal in mexico city, we decided to stay in the neighborhood at the recommendation of our B&B host. fantastic corner restaurant. super friendly staff that did their best to communicate the menu given our limited spanish. to start, delicious bread and even more delicious garlic sauce to dip it in. not sure what the creamy base was made from, but man. wow. we ordered a stuffed roasted chicken dish and a tuna steak with potatoes and capers. both were fantastic and cooked exactly as requested. we sat outside and about halfway through our meal some street musicians started playing at the spot across the street. people were dancing, drinking, eating. couldn't think of a better way to end our weekend in DF.

One of the most overrated places in Condesa. I have - unfortunately - been back here many times over the last many years because fresa-friends of mine wanted to go. I always cave in and I am always disappointed. The food is ok at best, the portions are tiny, the service is beyond rude, the waiters are arrogant and always try to cheat you on serving you less wine than the portion indicated as the serving size, getting 8 glasses out of a bottle and still charging you double price. The only people sucking up to this place are fresas and you end up paying at least 50% more than any other average place in Condesa, and for a place that never has been anything close to a French Bistro. But fresas, of course, don't know what a French bistro is.

This is not a real French Bistro but an imitation of an imitation--filtered through New York's imagination of Paris and then reinterpreted through Mexico. Hence, such oddities as French Onion soup as an appetizer, which would never really happen in France except at a tourist restaurant. In this sense, the restaurant is truly Mexican because of its attempt to emulate its mighty Northern neighbor (the press releases tell the quaint story of the owners' time in Manhattan and their attempt to bring this sojourn home in the form of a restaurant). The contradiction of this restaurant is that it imitates something humble--the neighborhood family-run restaurant--and turns it into something glamorous and a bit pretentious. The food is uninspired. My duck had no crispness. The meat is not local but imported from the USA. So, I recommend this place but with a caveat: this place is good, not for a meal, but for people-watching...because it is a notable destination for tourists and well-heeled Mexicans: a place to be seen and be seen. Conclusion: four stars because it did the work it was supposed to but for the food, I'd honestly have to give it two.
