The Best Sushi Restaurants in Phoenix, Arizona

"Although the Scottsdale location of this upscale Japanese chain is often packed with pretty people in trendy clothes, it’s more than just a see-and-be-seen hangout. It’s an elegant, Japanese-inflected steakhouse and seafood restaurant with plenty of beautifully rendered sushi and sashimi. Check out the Modern Nigiri section, which offers scallop with preserved lemon and caviar; flame-seared salmon with lemon miso and dill; and toro (fatty tuna) with seared foie gras." - Nikki Buchanan, Eater Staff

9 Phoenix Restaurants Serving Splurge-Worthy Meals

"Admittedly, Roka Akor is a corporate restaurant with multiple locations, but don’t dismiss this sleek, trendy Japanese spot as some middle-of-the-road chain because it’s anything but ordinary. The sushi bar, which overlooks the exhibition kitchen, offers the best seats in the house, allowing diners to take in all the action. Diners can watch the kitchen’s robatayaki (a Japanese charcoal grill) issuing forth all manner of beef cuts, including certified Tajima Kobe beef and A5 Miyazaki wagyu, the latter served with a trio of expensive sea salts. Here too, sushi chefs compose sashimi and sushi plates that resemble works of art. It’s a great way to figure out what to order. Executive chef Tyson Tellez sources local vegetables and chicken while shipping in premium fish from around the world. For customers who want to celebrate with some bubbly, there’s Dom Perignon brut Champagne priced for $480." - Nikki Buchanan

Everything about our evening at Roka Akor was exceptional, and Leigh, our server, truly made it unforgettable. She was warm, knowledgeable, and guided us through the menu with perfect recommendations — from the melt-in-your-mouth Wagyu to the beautifully presented sushi and the unique black sesame ice cream for dessert. The open kitchen, premium ingredients, and elegant plating made the night feel special, but it was Leigh’s attention to detail and hospitality that really stood out. We felt genuinely cared for the entire evening. Highly recommend sitting at the chef’s counter for the full experience — and if you’re lucky enough to have Leigh as your server, you’re in great hands.

Google
A modern Japanese robata grill restaurant. One of my personal favorites. Food: Fresh, stylish, elegantly served. Attention to detail is without comparison. And so flavorful. Excellent use of first class produce. Service: quick, attentive, and friendly. Very knowledgeable about the food and beverages. I ordered the recent Restaurant Week menu and was impressed.

Google
It was no surprise that this place was extremely pricey. The sushi bar experience was cool. Eclectic menu. We enjoyed our dishes both visually and taste wise. I love a little more of a traditional menu so I'm not sure I'll go back but it was personal preference. Service was outstanding as well.

Google
Late night dinner, servers were amazing. The lady and I had the Australian Wagyu, absolutely incredible, lobster tempura, and this Tuna dish as an appetizer. Didn't grab more pics we ate it to fast. Service was amazing, food was incredible. Highly recommend to anyone looking ti step out and try something different.

Google
Great open kitchen format with an expansive menu. We were able to order multiple items to share with our group. Food came out fast and lots of delicious options

Google
Got to try their steak flight for Father's Day. I've never had wagyu and this was my entire reason for making a reservation. My god...the American and Japanese wagyu especially was unlike anything I've tested. Can't wait to go back!

Lea Arrison

Google
This was the best meal I've ever had. It was also the best service our group has ever experienced. Our server, Casey, was excellent and very knowledgeable, but every server worked together to serve our table. Our water glasses never went below half full. I highly recommend the Omekase "entrust the chef".

Eric Lin

Google
Went with the Omakase. There are some interesting dishes, while some are fairly normal. The interesting dishes are spectacular. On the other hand, the normal dishes aren't bad per se, they just fall short for the overall experience/expectations. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience.

Yelp
Came for dinner here on Saturday after having a cocktail nearby at Alma. We didn't have reservations but they had availability. We asked for a table in the bar area and were seated right away. This was my second time here. The last time was Feb 2023. I gotta say that I enjoyed the food more last time but it still wasn't bad this time! Our order: Tequila Blanco soda lime Yamastè Cocktail Crispy Rice w/ Tuna Tartare Hamachi Crudo Butterfish Tataki Uni Nigiri Chutoro Sashimi 1 other sashimi (bluefin tuna I think?) Wagyu Dumplings The Yamastè cocktail was good! Crispy rice with Tuna tartare was just okay. It's not my favorite but is one of his favorites. He said it wasn't the best that day though. Hamachi was good, butterfish was overcooked, uni was good, chutoro was ok, other sashimi was good and wagyu dumplings were salty. We were going to order a steak and side too but then decided not to. The steak, miso cod, mushroom pot, and ube dessert we got last time were all delicious. I would say the uni nigiri was better last time too since it had much more uni on it. Overall, combined with last time, I would say I'd come back again. Service here was excellent each time. Place is

Yelp
The food was amazing. The seafood were fresh and perfectly done. The steak and wafu sauce were just perfect. I just wished i could eat more! The service is okay when they actually come around. We had to wait awhile for our waiter to come around. They might be understaffed at the time, but either way, we did have difficulty getting in our orders. The ambiance was nothing to complain about. It was a big open restaurant so it did not feel cramped at all. It was very cozy and comfortable so we were quite satisfied.

Yelp
Could be the last time I come! I've come multiple times but this evening the food and service for the price was disappointing. We ordered Omakase for 8. Dessert was awesome but half of the dishes were MEH either a bit over spiced or just not up to what we had before. For the price better can be found based on this experience

Yelp
Belated Valentine's Day dinner to avoid the crowd. The restaurant is classy and modern. Hubby and I got the omakase for $149 per person and everything was delish! Big eater hubby was worried he would still be hungry afterwards, but in fact we walked out of the restaurant super stuffed! Lol Everything was great to share, we got to try many signature items on the menu like hamachi carpaccio, tuna tartare on crispy rice, eggplant tempura; it was my first time trying eggplant tempura shaped as fries! So crispy! The miso cod was so flaky and buttery. Wagyu filet was cooked perfectly medium rare. Super tender! We enjoyed eating it with the truffle salt to most. Lastly the dessert trio was perfect to end the night.

Yelp
Gorgeous establishment perfect for date night. The food was stellar, thoughtfully crafted and absolutely delicious! The octopus and seafood were incredibly fresh and clean. There was nothing on the menu that disappointed us. Our waitress was super attentive, knowledgeable, and helped us make our minds up on a couple of dishes. Definitely stop by!

Yelp
I'm the first to admit, I haven't been a huuuge fan of #restaurantweek in the past couple of years, it's more and more common to find a restaurants RW menu that costs the same as their regular menu, or maybe a couple dollars off. But @rokaakorscottsdale killlllled it! A huge value, for $55 a person. That chefs sashimi platter? $24!! The first course consisted of: (yes, ALL) *Crispy fried eggplant with jalepeno honey (so ) *Hamachi Serrano maki *Butterfish tataki with yuzu shallot dressing, shiso pesto and wasabi crumble For course two, I had the yuzu miso marinated black cod in magnolia leaf with pickled red onion- I had been wanting to try this for so long and it did not disappoint! SO flaky and moist *chefs kiss* We also tried the prime filet with chili ginger sauce as a second course perffffecrly cooked and also incredible! The dessert, the warm @valrhonafrance chocolate cake, vanilla bean ice cream, cashew brittle - to for! The flavor, texture, and just a tiiiny bit of salt.. The service is also fantastic every time I'm there! Very attentive and informative. Love the bar for HH as well!

Yelp
Came here for dinner with my wife and another couple. First off I want to say that everything tasted fantastic. The sushi and black cod were delicious. However my black cod was loaded with pin bones. I was able to pick out most of the bones but one of the smaller ones got stuck in my throat and it took me about a minute to get it unlodgged. It was kind of scary. For the amount of money that this place charges I was very disappointed that they let so many pin bones to remain in my fish. Mine was the only piece to have pin bones. The manager did apologize and informed the chef. We all got dessert as well. They brought out my friends dessert but something happened and the rest of us had to wait for over 5 minutes for our desserts. My friend waited for our desserts while his ice cream slowly melted. Our waiter did bring us some gelato to make up for the error. However again for the amount of money that they are charging I wouldn't expect these errors.

Yelp
Talk about great steak and food all around. I am not a sea food or sushi eater by any means. My girlfriend at the time is though. It seems to be a great fit for us as we each get what we desire. The service is on par and the location is very nice. My last visit was on Valentine's day. They even had a free photo booth in the front. Will 1000% return.

Yelp
Went for a birthday celebration around the time of the WM open. It was packed! We reserved a table via open table which I highly recommend. The food was amazing. Brussel sprouts were delicious and the steak was cooked perfectly. The apps are great; we got soup that is made in house. I got the cooked maki rolls and they were also so flavorful. We will be talking about this meal for a long time! Not to mention; at the end of the meal, they brought out PURPLE SWEET POTATO WHIPPED PUDDING?!? It was the best ending to a delicious meal. Pricing was also not too bad considering how much we ordered.
google avatar

Bridget S.

Yelp
Came here for my and my brother's birthday. Great spot. The service was superb, she offered great recommendations in terms of drinks and food. It's a Japanese steakhouse, so of course we had to go with both steak and sushi. They did give us a heads up that the espresso martini does take a few extra minutes for the freshly brewed espresso, they mentioned it on their website as well, but it is well worth the wait. Since we came for our birthdays, they treated us to a glass of champagne and dessert of our choice. We both went with the ube pot de creme since ube is my absolute weakness, and it was fantastic. I'd come back just for the dessert alone (kidding, the steak and sushi were delicious as well). Overall, it was a great birthday experience

Yelp
This is such a cute place! Modern and romantic :) It's like American/Japanese cuisine, and they had interesting food options. Inside seating area is pretty spacious. We got to try fried eggplant, crispy tuna rice, wagyu, and salmon nigiri, they were all yummy, but eggplant and crispy tuna rice were really good. The sauce came with the eggplant was so flavorful. And the yuzu sake they have, super refreshing and citrusy, if you like something citrus, you'll love it. Like the ambience, and people were friendly but they all seemed a busy though!
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
Service is attentive and helpful. Educates you on each dish in their sushi that comes out. The mocktails are delicious. Ambiance is just like a vegas high end restaurant. Edm music that encapsulates a feel good mood. Presentation is on par with a high end experience. I'd probably come back to do an omakase The prime striploin was cooked to perfection and while i prefer a truffle butter, the truffle aioli was still very good. This is a solid restaurant. I'll definitely return

Yelp
Food is fine, just make sure you bring the Amex, a STATIN and leave your watch at home.

Yelp
I really like the design of the open kitchen and I was excited my girlfriend and I were able to sit right in front of the head chef! Watching the whole team go hard during rush hour was an experience in itself. Anyways, let's good to the good stuff Wagyu dumplings - 9.5/10 - if I see wagyu dumplings on a menu that's an auto order Pork belly 9.5/10 - really good pork belly, radishes were a nice surprise Yellowtail crudo 9/10 - spicy ponzu was the star of this one Flame seared salmon maki 8/10 - love a seared salmon but didn't love the asparagus in it American wagyu rib eye 9.8/10 - cooked perfectly, had leftovers to make steak & eggs in the morning, can someone get me in touch with whoever made that truffle aioli? Give them a raise! Service 10/10 Shouts out to our server. I forget his name but I think he had a man bun. He was funny and very attentive

Yelp
Our first meal in Scottsdale. Interesting this restaurant is actually from San Francisco. But we'v never visited that one even though we'v visited SF many times. We requested a counter seating but the host girl forgot about it. So we had to ask to be moved to the counter. Minor issue but the dinner experience was good enough. Menu was usual Japanese and Asian fusion items. Not gluten friendly but they offer tamari at least! We ordered quite a few items to share. We had fresh oysters, tuna tartare crispy rice, shishito peppers, salmon sashimi, mushroom miso soup, uni sushi, toro tartare, scallop and mushroom skewers as tapas. Also steak and whole Branzino as entrees. The food was delicious and fresh in healthy portions. The cocktails were tasty and strong. Our waitress was so friendly and attentive the entire time. We liked the food and service but the ambiance was so crowded and noisy. A decent Japanese restaurant but don't think we will visit again next time. Mainly I am not a fan of overpriced Japanese food. I don't drink most of the time now so I can't eat raw when I don't drink alcohol. Still a solid dinner experience to start our Arizona trip nicely! Ps. Valet disappeared when we came out, complimentary valet so they leave as they please?!
google avatar

Yelp
We celebrated our anniversary here! Loved it, good quality sushi. Great place for celebrations. Ambiance is nice and the staff is friendly. The host even stepped outside to take photos for us! We loved our experience and do plan on visiting again!

Yelp
Fabulous dinner at Roka Akor! Delicious steak platter, grilled pork belly and Brussel Sprouts. We also started with their delicious fried eggplant and avocado nigiri sushi, and butterfish. We highly recommend Roka Akor. The staff, and bartender Leigh, and GM, Paul are the best!
google avatar

Randall E.

Yelp
Overall this is an excellent place for sushi, Asian food, steak, etc. My grade is based on service and other items. We started out in the "bar area" with what they deem a booth but we were staring into the sun. They would not adjust the blinds so we asked to just be moved. They eventually moved us to the dining room. That was fine. I inquired about their happy hour and was told that where we were at prior to being moved, the happy hour applies. So....... Fast forward to drinks and food. They were both excellent. Cocktails and wine were both great. The nigiri and rolls were top notch as was the service. Can't give it 5 stars based on the early bs in the visit, around getting seating, but I'd love to come back and reassess.
google avatar

Paalika B.

Yelp
Meh - after two years of debating whether we should try this place out, we gave it a go and for us it wasn't worth the hype. Everything was mediocre and an extraordinary price. I was most excited for the mushroom hot pot but it was a huge letdown.
google avatar

Cindy L.

Yelp
Roca Akor what a fabulous date night. We started off with appetizers and an old fashions at the bar and then moved on to the really long cooking-station table. Flat out ordered so many different taste, wanted to try everything but unfortunately, our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. We did try around 10 different things. Everything was fabulous. Let me tell you that pork belly, which I wanted to call pork belly-scotch, it was so silky and smooth, incredible. Lee (mixologist) Marcus (the best waiter today) Ariel ( host)Armando Guillermo, thank you. Mitch (one of my favorite) Meech Mic, so many people responsible for making our first visit, not our last visit. teamwork was amazing. I WOULD RECOMMEND

Peyton R.

Yelp
Had Kayla as a server the other night, she was awesome and had great recommendations! Food and drinks are always amazing here and the vibe is awesome.
google avatar

Jasmine L.

Yelp
Food: we ordered the Yuzu Miso Marinated Black Cod, Crispy Eggplant, Broccolini, and the Spicy Tuna roll. My favorite was honestly the crispy eggplant because of the jalapeno honey it came with. I could use that sauce on everything. The cod was also very tasty with the pickled onion and black sesame spread. The sushi was not my favorite but I would try a different roll next time. Drinks: I ordered the paper tiger cocktail and it was amazing!! It didnt taste too much of matcha, it was strong of gin which I loved and it was more tart than sweet. I loved it Service: I believe our server was Katherine, I wish I remembered for sure. She was so knowledgeable of the menu and so helpful as I made my selections. Ambiance: decor was nothing crazy, it could probably use a revamp soon especially with all the trendy restaurants in the area. Everything else made up for it though Great place for celebrating something special
google avatar

Jesse K.

Yelp
Definitely best place to be for omakase I sat at the bar table - perfect place to look at how the food get prepared and engaged with chefs. Servers were very professional. I had nothing to complain about this place. It can be pricy but it worth of every penny.
google avatar

Diana C.

Yelp
So seriously amazing food and service. On the very high end for price, but probably worth it. 4 stars because of the loudness. Sat in dining room and it was deafening. Yes it was a Saturday night but dang they need to work on acoustics
google avatar

Vinitha V.

Yelp
Came to Roka to celebrate my birthday with a big group of friends. We were originally expected to set at the bar because of the way we booked the reservation, but after asking the hostess if there were other accommodations they were able to fit us into a private room because they had a last minute cancellation. This was such a nice thing they did for our group and really made the experience that much better. The food was extremely delicious and the service was even better! The food was definitely worth the price as the quality was so good.
google avatar

Sharon Z.

Yelp
Huge sushi lover here and been hearing about this place for a while. I came here for happy hour! They had a set sashimi set that I ordered instead of sushi. The presentation was beautiful but with so much raw fish, I was surprised it didn't come with ginger to cleanse our palate each time we ate. We ended up ordering the pork belly dish to cut the raw fish taste (so delicious!) Our margarita drinks were so yummy and the appetizers too! Our waiter surprised us with complimentary dessert! :) would come back here to try their sushi next time!
google avatar

Missy A.

Yelp
Sam the bartender was great! Food was amazing. Will definitely be coming back soon. Ordered: Wagyu Beef, Kimchi Dumplings, flame seared salmon, crispy honey shrimp, Tempura Prawn Maki, truffle fries. Ambiance was perfect. Restaurant is dimly lit.
google avatar

Matt L.

Yelp
It's been a while.. STILL BOMB. A little pricey, but the decor and ambiance is really great. The service is always on point. I would skip happy hour and just go straight to your wallet and pull it all out, because it is worth it for a really nice dinner.
google avatar

Ziad S.

Yelp
Nice sushi restaurant in Scottsdale if you want something upscale. Tried the Chilean sea bass, brussel sprouts, broccolini, and the wagyu ribeye. Seabass was very fresh and well decorated. Ribeye was super tender. Everything was great. Service on point for this type of restaurant. Overall great place to check out.
google avatar

Richard B.

Yelp
Delicious! Great service fun atmosphere great service. I tried a bunch of everything and was happy I did.
google avatar

Jan H.

Yelp
Dined at Roka Akor and had an amazing experience. The ambiance was elegant and sophisticated, the service was top-notch, and the food was absolutely delicious. tried their Arizona Restaurant Week 3 course meal and they did not disappoint. The presentation of the dishes was also very impressive. Overall, I highly recommend Roka Akor for anyone looking for a high-quality dining experience. prices may be on the higher side, but the quality of the food and service definitely justify it. I will definitely be returning in the future.
google avatar

Zack Y.

Yelp
Quite expensive but super good food. Well worth it for a special occasion or a nice date.
google avatar

Tori B.

Yelp
Wow wow wow. Absolutely love this place. Been coming for years at this point and the food is already amazing (I like to do the Omakase it is VERY well worth it). The omakase has a large selection of different foods, textures, spice levels... my god it has everything. And the mixed drinks the bartenders serve here are bar none in the Scottsdale area. Location: Fabulous! Food: Amazing! Service: Out of this world! Ambience: Elegant and contemporary! This is a fabulous restaurant for everything, from catching a great happy hour to celebrating with a friend. One of the best restaurants out there!
google avatar

Narcy G.

Yelp
I've been to Roka a handful of times and it never disappoints. My favorite things to get are the miso cod, butterfish tataki, mushroom hot pot, wagyu dumplings, and Chilean sea bass. Their happy hour is great as well, the lounge area has a more relaxed vibe which I love. It's definitely one of my favorite spots to go to.
google avatar

Vivian Q.

Yelp
amazing omakase & service! i love the openness of this restaurant and view of chefs. couldn't picture everything but my top favorite dishes are the yellowtail crudo, sashimi selection and wagyu. the Roka P.P.O.G mocktail is absolutely delicious, i wish i could get it in a 32oz size! it's super sweet but fruity and refreshing. all the other dishes were delicious as well, pretty standard but solid.
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
Everything was as expected and then some! We ate at the sushi bar on a busy Friday night. Our server was on top of everything and the dishes were outstanding! Pricing is stout, so don't be shocked when the bill arrives!
google avatar

Patherine C.

Yelp
Roka Akor's food is always a favorite for us. We've been visiting this restaurant for about 10 years now. This time we decided to try out their AZ Restaurant Week menu. I was impressed at the offering. Food came out promptly and it was delicious as usual. The only hiccup was the start of service. Last night was probably the first time it took forever for someone to stop by our table to greet us. Turns out our actual server was "putting out fires" and Jacob had to step in. Luckily our new waiter made up for the wait. Everything was great from there. Pro-tip: try to sit closest to the open kitchen. It's fun to watch them cook while you dine. We'll be back!
google avatar

Shawna H.

Yelp
While impressive both outside and in, this upscale restaurant has an expensive menu but the service is more of a 4 star experience. The servers are not as friendly as they are at typical 5 star fine dining establishments and it does affect the overall vibe. The food was good but portions were small for the price and it was difficult to tell from the menu if you would get 2 pieces of sushi or 5. Worth a visit, but my expectations were higher than the actual experience provided.
google avatar

George C.

Yelp
The service was phenomenal, the food was great! My new york steak, medium rare a tad medium, But taste was great. Wife got filet mignon well done, came back pinkish but the waiter corrected it immediately and made us feel valued by throwing in desert comped by the house. I'll definitely come back for the next special occasion.
google avatar

Jen S.

Yelp
Came here to celebrate my anniversary and opted to try the omakase dinner. Our server Marcus was very attentive and helpful. This place was so busy when we arrived and because we had to wait we were provided a glass of champagne. The omakase was a great mix of both fresh sashimi, seafood, and meat. My favorite dish was the miso cod which was cooked in a leaf. But the sashimi was so fresh I could eat two plates by myself if I had the option. Will definitely come back.

James W.

Yelp
WOW!! The Sushi was amazing and the Steaks looked even better! Beautiful, big open dining with await service that was outstanding! Cheers!!

Mr B.

Yelp
I was surprised and pleased the General Manager, Paul Gerhardt reached out to invite us back as his guest after last times disappointing dinner. We usually sit at the sushi bar or in the lounge. Tonight we tried something different and sat at a table in the dining room. We were fortunate to have Andrew as our waiter. He has the skills a great waiter needs. We would not normally order Tempura in a high end Japanese restaurant but the Shrimp Tempura was outstanding. Andrew suggested we dip the shrimp in the Tempura Sauce and then in one of their two flavored salts. This added another layer of taste and complexity and we were glad we took Andrew's suggestion. I love Sea Urchin and Roka Akor had Japanese Bafin Uni, the best of Japan's varieties of Uni. My wife loves Otoro Nigiri. Last time it was outstanding this time it was just good. I do not hold that against the restaurant. I guess it's just based on how great the product is that they get in and they have no ability to control it. You can spend twice the price at Nobu, but I don't think you'll find any better sushi in Phoenix than at Roka Akor and we look forward to continuing to be a frequent patron
google avatar

Sasha W.

Yelp
SO GOOD. oh my god. First off, it was such a great experience. our server was so helpful with recommendations and there was nothing that didn't hit the spot. My favorite by far was the tuna crispy rice, we even got two of them. Out of all the places that we had visited in Scottsdale this was by far my favorite. Next time I come back to visit, I'll definitely be revisiting Roka akor!!
google avatar

Elicia N.

Yelp
I love Roka Akur, they are the epitome of classy, sophisticated dining. They have unique tastings and combinations of sushi, elegant decor, resistive easy parking, and tapas style bites. The only reason I did not give this five stars is because I find the price point a bit too high and the portions too small, so I always end up leaving spending too much and still hungry. I terribly miss the bar Omakase they used to have before quarantine. The price point was perfect and the bite-size portions were perfect. I've had the dinner Omakase and found it to be overpriced and not enough of a variety to enjoy. A great date spot and happy hour is a great option as well!
google avatar

Emily K.

Yelp
I love this place! It is a huge sushi spot, with a full bar inside. We sat at the bar, and ordered some sushi. I love the Chicago location, and knew this one would be great too. I absolutely loved the salmon roll, which took me by surprise! I'm not the biggest, salmon fan on sushi, but holy moly it is phenomenal! The Wagyu beef was to die for, absolutely perfectly cooked. If you are looking for a dessert, get the chocolate lava cake... I wanted to get a second, it was that good! The service was great, drinks came out quick, and the food tasted exceptional. If you are in North Scottsdale, you gotta go here, the food is great, and the service is too. Great spot for date night as well!
google avatar

Valerie I.

Yelp
The food is so good, no matter what you order. We love the avocado crispy rice & the seared salmon roll. The service is very attentive & I never leave disappointed!
google avatar

Audrey M.

Yelp
My dear husband brought me here for my birthday. It was our first time and we were NOT disappointed. We had a nice waitress who helped explain some of the dishes to us since we were undecided. We landed on the Wagyu Ribeye and Salmon, Brussels Sprouts, Wagyu dumplings. Iced tea. Everything was perfection. Mouth watering, cooked to perfection. Spacious dining room with an open feel. They brought a lava cake/ice cream, and a scoop of passion fruit/blood orange sorbet. Phenomenal as well. Definitely a culinary experience worth trying.
google avatar

Mike A.

Yelp
I was duped by the high reviews! Ambiance: Some have referred to this as a great date spot. Really? The layout, aside from the valet screams The Cheesecake Factory. Tables are all in a wide open plan restaurant, so how is that for an intimate date? Couple next table over were both celebrating birthdays. Yep that close and open that you can hear all conversations. Food: I am not sure what this restaurant is trying to be, but seems to come up short across the board. Limited options on Steak, Fish and Sushi; so you dont really have the option of a typical restaurant serving Steak and Fish. Menu is 1/8 the size of Steak44 or Ocean44. Sushi? Whole Foods has more options in their case. Steak: 8oz Prime Filet $ 55. Not bad, but I would rather spend an extra $7 to get one at Steak44/Dominiks or any other true high end restaurant. Salmon ala carte for $35. The glaze was too much, salmon was ok. Nothing special. The summer sushi platter ($49) were were told is in limited qty, so if we want, he can place an order and hold it for us. Wow, ok let's do that. What a disappointment. The worst tasting and small portion of the entire meal. Nice presentation, but absolutely nothing good about these 7 pieces of sashimi and 5 of sushi. I was at a loss how each piece at a cost of $7/each was special. Not to mention the slices were super thin. What a joke! Sides were about $12 each and the Brussels Sprouts were decent. Apps: This is where they pick up a star. The sashimi tacos @ $12 for 2 were very good! The grilled octopus $25 was prepared perfectly and nice portion size. Service: Ok. Again nothing that would leave you to believe this is a high end pricy restaurant. Example: Iced Tea refills get a fresh glass every time. That's $$$$ restaurant rule #1. First refill yes, then 2nd was a top off over melted ice. Overall: Live and learn. Wanted a nice place for sushi, decided to try this place. Lured by a stupid Facebook promo for the Summer Platter Special. Dropped over $200 for 2 with no drinks or desert. Food didnt come remotely close to match the cost. This was a one time visit. Save your $, there are so many other better options in the area.

Yelp
Overall rating: 4/5 Wait: 4.5/5 Arrival time: Friday 5:15pm Food: 4/5 Order: brussel sprouts, bluefin sashimi flight, salmon sashimi, wagyu ribeye, tiger prawn tempura, ube tart, green tea tart Service: 4.5/5 Price: 4/5 Worth it, would come back If you're looking for a high-end Japanese restaurant with a variety of dishes, Roka Akor is a good option. The brussel sprouts had a nice flavor, but could have been crispier. The sashimi was fresh and delicious, comparable to some of the best places in Phoenix. The tempura was light and crunchy, and the steak was tender and juicy. The desserts were amazing, especially the ube tart and the green tea tart. The service was attentive and friendly, and the wait was reasonable for a Friday night. The price was on the expensive side, but worth it for the quality and quantity of food. I would definitely come back to try more dishes.
