A Young Restaurant Group Is Making Orange County’s Hottest Restaurants | Eater LA

"A rapid rebrand and buildout that transformed a struggling neighborhood kitchen into a focused hand-roll bar in 21 days, featuring house-made sauces (yuzu kosho, truffle soy), a concise cocktail program, signature hand rolls, and an over-the-top off-menu creation combining fatty tuna, A5 wagyu, Santa Barbara uni, avocado, and caviar. Operated by the larger group while the original owner retains equity, the concept has grown to a sizable staff and plans for a second location." - Anne Marie Panoringan

ROL Hand Roll Bar

Google
My go to item here is the kaisendon. It's one of their lunch specials that's available until 4 pm everyday. The bowl contains rice on the bottom, topped with salmon, spicy tuna, shrimp, scallop, and blue crab. How you eat the don is as normal until about the halfway point. You'll then request for the miso salmon broth to be poured into the bowl for a whole new flavor. That's my favorite part. Service here is always top notch. They're super nice and attentive. It's slightly on the louder side here but that's to be expected since it's located in a pretty populated location and it's a popular spot to get some quality sushi.

Google
I was conflicted about whether to give Rol 4 or 5 stars. I’m a sushi and hand roll aficionado. I’d eat it daily and I’ve been to most of the places in SoCal. The fish quality here is very good. I got the lunch special and at $16 for 4 rolls that’s a very good price. But the rolls are very small. Usually I can have enough at 5 rolls to be full. Here I had 6 and I could have still eaten more. Other than that, I have no complaints. It’s a clean restaurant located right off beach blvd in main part of city. The servers were attentive and nice. I’m just a big eater and I would have to order 7-8 rolls to feel satisfied.

Great lunch deal Monday to Friday. Friendly staff and the rolls are delicious. Best to have a reservation since they are busy.

Google
A+ [would come again / 還會再來] · a delicious sushi restaurant in Orange County known for their fresh hand rolls · it was about 5-8$ USD as of October 2025 for one handroll (depending on what fish you get) · i loved their yuzu sauce (although it costed extra) · salmon don was really filling + tasted fresh · also have set menus (but this came out slow in between each roll) · it was pricy (so i recommend you come to enjoy the quality of sashimi instead of being full) · server was really nice and gave us their mascot keypins in exchange for food photos posted tldr: its a perfect spot for sushi + sashimi hand roll lovers

This was my second visit to this place, and I still love the roll concept which is fast, easy-to-make hand rolls that are both convenient and delicious. For the appetizer, we started with the Salmon Tartare. The bite-sized portions were perfect for sharing. My boyfriend and I each opted for the 6-roll set menu, which allows you to swap out two rolls from their hand roll selection. I swapped the Albacore for the Blue Crab. Of course, you don’t have to go with the set menu, but it does make ordering easier since you don’t have to decide on each roll individually. The key here is ordering the special dipping sauces. We always get a trio, and this time we chose the Truffle Soy Sauce, Yuzu Kosho, and Kizami Wasabi (which is essentially fresh wasabi). These sauces truly elevated the rolls. They also recommend eating the rolls within 10–15 seconds of serving to enjoy the crispy nori and warm rice at their best. I also love their cocktails. I started with The Last Ronin, which features shiso-infused whiskey and lemon, a light and refreshing drink to begin with. Next, I had The Oni, their take on a smoked Old Fashioned. Both were excellent choices. If you’re in the area and craving quick, flavorful hand rolls, definitely check this place out, I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Google
We love this place. Usually go for the 7-set which is a great sampling of most of their offerings. The crispy rice tuna appetizer is insane, I could eat that alone. Great cocktails, friendly staff. We eat here about every 2-3 months and love it every time.

Google
Food 5/5, we ordered 7 set since the server recommended for the first visit. We sat at the bar, the chef made the rolls and served it right away. She also made sure that we enjoyed one first and gave us some time in between then served the next. The food was so fresh, the portion was good. Definitely recommend. The server was nice but he was pretty busy serving the whole restaurant by himself. The glass still has lipstick on. So I think they should be more careful about that. But overall, we had a great experience.

Joy Patipatvasin

Google
Recommended making a reservation in advance. The food, drinks and service were great. The server were very attentive. We did the 7-set menus. For a smaller girlie, this set was one too many roll for me😅 -Chili Garlic Edamame. Chef kiss! 🫶🏽 -Yuzu Kosho sauce, zesty & yum. A MUST!! -Cookies & Cream Panna Cotta. Our fav!🫶🏽

Yelp
I really liked this location. I liked that this location actually had tables so that I could bring my daughter. I did the 5 piece set and that was super filling. The rolls are excellent.

Yelp
Date night! I'll cut to the chase with this review. First time here. I've been to several Kei Concept restaurants in the area and they were all above average to very good. This one is pretty good. It was solid. I've been to another popular hand roll bar in LA (naming no names out of respect) and I have to say that one was better. Don't hear what I'm not saying though. This is still solid! We ordered a set each and the best roll was albacore (I think). It was the one with crunchy fried onions. Wait staff was super friendly and the food comes out fairly quick after you finish them one by one. Ube beer was interesting and the cocktail we tried was delicious.

Yelp
What a great dining experience. My husband and I ordered a 6-set each, a Toro truffle roll each, and we shared a furikake fries. We were going to get the Kaisendon appetizer to share but decided against it because it would've been too much food according to our server. Of all the rolls, my favorite was the scallops. We also sub out the spicy tuna for the blue crab (no extra charge) and blue crab roll was delicious. Next time I will also sub out the yellowtail for scallops- it was THAT good. We ordered both the yuzu sauce and the truffle soy sauce ($2 each). Both sauces were delicious and I'd recommend them both. For the amount of rolls we ordered, two sauces was perfect. Next time I would probably skip the Toro truffle roll ($10 each) because it didn't seem too special compared to the regular Toro roll. As for service, it was great. We didn't sit at the bar but the chef paced our meal by sending out the rolls one at a time, which I liked. I'm definitely a returning customer.

Yelp
Such a cool spot! The atmosphere is dimly lit and intimate, but the restaurant is loud. The food was delish. The rolls I got were the toro, yellowtail, and shrimp tempura. I would recommend all 3, but toro coming in 1st. Their furikake fries were also tasty! My drink was the Tipsh Geisha and it was seriously so delicious The rolls are small & it's all very light so you may need to order a lot to be filled. The service was amazing, our server was very attentive and informative.

Yelp
I've been to both the Huntington Beach location and Fountain Valley location too many times to count as well as getting take out. I can always depend on Rol for a casual to go lunch or a nice date night. The lunch deals are a steal and I'm always extremely satisfied with the kaisen don or the spicy tuna and salmon donburi. I also often get the to go lunch bento box option. And all of those options are under $20! When dining in, each hand roll is made fresh in front of you and enjoyed at peak freshness. There is nothing better than the combination of crispy seaweed with the soft seasoned rice and delicate fish. It's also worth spending the extra few dollars on the kizami wasabi, truffle soy sauce, and yuzu kosho. I promise it'll make your food so much better than it already is.

Yelp
Summary - Kazu nori is better. This was my third time coming back to this restaurant as my previous experience had been nothing but pleasant. And yet again, super friendly and helpful staff and welcoming vibe all around. However, they messed up the rice big time. Rice was all mushy and over cooked. I hate mushy rice, let alone in a nori / sushi. Fish was still good, very saucy and strong in flavor. The seaweed was smoky and good too. Just the rice was awful and its the basic and most important part of Japanese food. I was always in debate between here and kazu nori but now, i have a strong favor over the other.

Yelp
Kei Concepts just never misses. Crazy how delicious and intimate this place is. Been here rounds after rounds whether it be for date night, hanging with friends, or just celebrating life and never had a bad experience. Always had amazing service and good drinks. p.s. they offer reservations and I recommend you placing a spot prior to dining ;) I normally order from the set menus and choose the 6-set because it offers a fair amount of items to try (especially if you plan on ordering more). I've also tried all of their premium handrolls. Lobster & Truffle is by far my favorite and always end up ordering more. I like to pair all of the handrolls with their Truffle Soy Sauce which you do have to purchase for an additional $2. Definitely worth it. For appetizers, I recommend their chili garlic edamame, miso soup, cucumber salad, crispy rice tartare, and salmon tartare. I've tried their fries and thought it was boring. But it's a good option for the kiddos or young ones! As far as alcohol... if you're looking for something sweet, order either the Sumo Diet or Princess Violet (this is prob. more popular due to having lychee flavor). Tokyo Breeze is also a really good choice in my opinion. If you're not much of an alcoholic, opt for the dragon fruit lychee lemonade. End it with any of their desserts because I thought they were all good lol.

Yelp
Came here to finally try the kaisendon and it did not disappoint! It's an excellent addition to their menu at a great price point. It's a shame it's only available as a lunch item (until 4pm), as I'd easily order this as a dinner item, but understand it's probably a way to streamline things. In addition to being ridiculously aesthetic, this dish is delicious. Great blend of salmon, kanikama, spicy tuna, and scallop. Each ingredient was fresh and flavorful, and blended incredibly well altogether along with the cucumber slices and seaweed bits. I was skeptical about liking this more than the hand rolls, but this dish blew me away. I wouldn't say either is better than the other, but it just depends on what you're up for more. I like that getting the kaisendon let's me just sit and enjoy my meal at a leisurely pace. Love the miso broth that's added at the end! I left a little bit of rice, as they advise you to do. The broth is super delicious!!! I was also skeptical about this (I don't even know why I know Kei Concepts restaurants don't miss), but that's just the cynic in me. Excellent way to end the meal. It's hot, flavorful, savory, and slightly tangy. 10/10 would absolutely get the kaisendon again, and will. Service is amazing as always. Servers were prompt, attentive, and very kind! Interior and exterior of the building is great, clean, very well designed and modern. There's parking in front of the store, but if that gets packed there seems to be a parking structure in the back, so parking shouldn't be an issue. Will absolutely come again!

Yelp
I was doing my own personal hand roll tour in LA and NYC and ROL might be one of my favorites. The stand out was the Uni-toro roll. Fish was fresh and I'm drooling as I'm writing this out. I'm kind of a die hard for kazunori, because it's my college nostalgia restaurant, but ROL is slowly creeping up. I like their inari too, but will probably stick with just hand rolls next time. Servers are funny and ambiance is normal of a hand roll spot: dark and trendy. Typically, I know what I like so I don't really go for set menus, but maybe next time I'm in the area, I'll try that out.

Yelp
I was in town on business and work ended late and I was starving! You can never go wrong with sushi so I googled different places and this one popped up. I went in alone, with no reservation and was able to claim the last stool at the bar. So glad I went! When sitting at the bar you get to watch your food being made and it slides right to you. I was so tired and starving, I forgot to take pics of the food but everything was fresh, delicious and simply AH-mazing. I will definitely return if I am in the area again. Don't miss out on this place!

Yelp
Rol Hand Roll Bar, another offering from Kei Concepts, is an interesting spot with more than just hand rolls on the menu. I decided to try the 7 hand roll menu, which included salmon, spicy tuna crunch, scallop, yellowtail, albacore, unagi, and toro. While I enjoy hand rolls, I found these to be somewhat underwhelming. The rolls all had a similar flavor profile, primarily due to the overwhelming amount of crispy onion and green onion in each one. The fillings were also much more of a mush than I would have liked, which took away from the overall experience. I would have wanted to feel differences in consistency of the fish. It felt like the rolls were just a mix of barely seasoned rice and fish wrapped in seaweed--nothing that really stood out. Additionally, the staff member making the rolls seemed a bit disengaged throughout the dining process, which added to the lackluster atmosphere. While I appreciate the variety, I can't say I would return, as there wasn't anything that truly wowed me. It was a decent experience, but it didn't quite hit the mark for what I was hoping for.

Yelp
ROL by Kei Concepts is one of our all-time favorite date spots! We've tried a few restaurants under the Kei Concepts umbrella, and ROL easily makes our top 3. Every roll is fresh, perfectly seasoned to our liking. We ordered a set of 6, and honestly, loved every single bite. The staff is super attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, making the experience even better. It's a 5/5! ROL is one of our favorites date spots by Kei Concepts We've been to a few restaurants by Kei Concepts, and ROL is definitely in our top 3. The food here is always fresh and well-seasoned to our liking. We got a set of 6, and loved every piece we got. Staff is attentive, and knowledgable about the menus. 5/5 for us.

Yelp
I came here for a friend's birthday during the afternoon on Saturday July 27th with reservation. We were sat down within 10 minutes. I ordered the pink lemonade, miso soup and 5 set sushi. The lemonade was good, miso was good and the 5 set sushi was amazing. The service is good, the price is fair and the ambiance is nice. I would recommend trying out this place.

Yelp
This has become my go-to spot for hand rolls since another popular place has been falling short lately. While the location is a bit of a drive from where I live, I make the trip whenever I'm in the mood for quality hand rolls. If you're planning to visit, I highly recommend sitting at the bar. When your hand roll is ready, it goes straight to you, ensuring the seaweed stays crisp. If you're seated at a table, your roll may sit at the bar for a few minutes before being brought to you, which can cause the seaweed to soften. My usual order includes the cucumber salad and a set menu, though I always swap out the spicy tuna crunch. They take reservations online, which is a huge plus.
google avatar

Yelp
For the price point of ROL you'd expect better quality of fish. The ambiance is nice and the interior is very modern and new and very similar to the vibes of the other Kei concepts restaurants. The servers were super attentive and nice, me and my boyfriend sat at the bar and were able to watch as the sushi chef made the rolls and it was a little lackluster to see to be quite honest. All the fish was just ok, they all came scooped out of a tin similar to how you'd get fish from poke bowls. I don't know what exactly I was expecting but everything was just ok we ordered some extras after our set of 7, blue crab & uni and the blue crab did not taste fresh at all and the uni was not as sweet as it usually is. Besides the interior nothing from Rol stood out too much to me.

Yelp
Kei concept did it again! Great food and service and it's very consistent with their restaurants. Makes you want to be part of the winning team The rolls come in a la cart of in sets of 5, 6, or 7 Looks small but very filling , love the crunch of the nori... still hungry, other great options are available.

Yelp
These are the BEST hand rolls I've ever had, even better than KazuNori! The seaweed is perfectly crispy (eat it within 10 seconds to get the perfect crisp), the fish quality is so fresh, and the rice is warm. My all time favorite hand roll was the unagi hand roll - it has garlic chips in it which is a heavenly combination and I've never seen that anywhere else. The toro don and unagi don were also so good (fish and rice quality very high). We loved sitting at the bar where you can eat each hand roll immediately (they put it in front of you right after they make it vs. if you sit at the tables there is a slight lag since they have to bring it over to you). The hand roll chef and server were so nice - we loved chatting with them while we ate! No wait here vs the fountain valley location had a 1 hour wait, and I think this location tastes even better.

Yelp
Came here to say with my daughter for her birthday lunch. Got the set menu items 5 hand roll assortment: individual hand rolls salmon, spicy tuna, scallop, yellowtail and albacore. My daughter added a shrimp tempura hand roll to her meal plus a non alcoholic dragon fruit lemonade. We requested a bowl of sushi rice for our little one. Garlic edamame was spicy and delicious. Food was made to order, and had a good pacing between each roll. The rolls are individual hand rolls, about a two bite sized. I liked the scallop a lot: tender and saucy filling with just enough brushing rice. Server was friendly , he gave us a complementary cheesecake with candle to blow to celebrate the occasion. Quite packed for a late afternoon, some people seemed to be from nearby offices and wee either in scrubs or suits. Place is good for entertaining clients or the like. Industrial style interior, music was playing , tables not meant for large groups. We joined a waitlist , short 10 minutes to be seated. Parking has some posted as one hour only.

Yelp
We wanted to go to a Kei Concepts location and we were craving sushi so we gave this place a go. Servers were friendly, attentive, and helpful. I had the 7 set hand roll and enjoyed the majority of the rolls. The combination of the fish and the sauces and toppings were perfect. I wasn't aware that you can substitute but will probably do so next time. We added on a shrimp tempura for my little one and that was yummy as well! We got the furikake fries to munch on between the hand rolls. Crispy and flavorful fries! It came with their lovely aioli. My hubby got the spicy tuna donburi lunch combo and presentation was gorgeous! Beautiful flavors as well. He really enjoyed it. The lunch combo came with miso soup and edamame. The dragonfruit lychee lemonade is so refreshing and the color on that is definitely eye catching. Perfect amount of sweet and tart. We enjoyed our time here and only wished we could have also tried out their maki sets (take out only). Kei Concepts does it again! Can't wait to visit again next time.

Yelp
I've been here 2x now and we love it! F O O D - Edamame with garlic and chilis cooked over a flame - hands down one of my favorite items. - Scallop - so buttery and creamy. This is probably my favorite. - Salmon roll - can't go wrong with this one - Salmon tartare - I know you can get a salmon roll, but the yuzu sauce is sooooo good. The jalapenos aren't even spicy. - Tuna crispy rice - My hubby loves this one. - Blue crab roll - A close second or third to the salmon and scallop rolls. - Lobster - Just ok imo, but I prefer the others S E R V I C E Phenomenal - multiple servers came by to clean up our table. The chef/waiter watches when you're done with one roll and brings the next. Everyone's drink came except mine until I asked half way through the meal and it was comp'ed without fuss. They also brought over a child placemat, crayons, coloring book and seaweed for my kiddo. Everything was so good that I only took a picture of the edamame. :)

Yelp
food: i'm super picky when it comes to raw fish. i can't even eat at ayce sushi places because any hint of fishiness will make me nauseous, but rol hand rolls are super fresh and delicious. i got the 5 hand roll set + one blue crab hand roll and everything was great. my favorites were the spicy tuna crunch, albacore, and blue crab. service: amazing service, everyone was nice and quick. the hand roll chef made them at the perfect pace and it didn't feel too slow or rushed. ambiance: lively atmosphere, sit at the table for the chef to place the sushi directly onto your plate right after he makes it.
google avatar

Yelp
I got the Kaisendon $19 to try. The picture looks great but I didn't like it. They put too much imitation crabs in the bowl. The menu said it came with a broth at the end to add to the bowl. When I asked for the broth, the waitress looked at me like 'are you sure you want it.' She said she will give me the broth on the side. After I tasted it, I understood why she said that. Haha The broth was not good. I didn't finish the food. This is a pass for me for this place. I still like their other Kei concept restaurants in the same plaza.

Yelp
Always a 10/10 go to spot. Always consistent, delicious, and great service!! Parking kinda can be tough sometimes but the last 3 times, I was able to park out front fine. My FAVE is the scallop, salmon, yellowtail, and blue crab hand roll. Basically everything. We always order it with the truffle sauce. You can't go wrong with anything off this menu
google avatar

Yelp
My go to handroll place! Love how they have sets you can choose from and I leave feeling so full everytime. I usually order the 6 set and then an uni as my last roll. The taste is everything, love the vibes, and the staff are always so nice. Can't wait to come back here!

Yelp
This place is a gem. Perfect for a quick dinner or date night! Delicious (and strong) cocktails. We shared the spicy tuna crispy rice appetizer and each did the 7 set of hand rolls for $37. To top it off, I also had the blue crab and lobster hand rolls. Our server comped our beer, miso soup, and the crispy rice for us because he had initially forgotten to put the crispy rice order in. SO NICE. Forgot his name, but he was great. My lack of good photos should tell you that I was just really enjoying my food, instead of taking pics LOL.

Yelp
Ever since I tried the Rol located in fountain Valley, I have been craving hand rolls for a long time. So I decided to try out the Huntington Beach area because they have both bar and table seating, and because I wanted a table seating because I was by myself lol. At first, I tried their premium rolls - toro and truffle, Toro, Uni and truffle, and lobster and truffle hand rolls. I was still hungry, so I decided to order their five piece hand roll set which consisted of salmon, spicy tuna, crunch, yellowtail, albacore, and scallops. they had exceptional service as I was not sure how it would work when ordering the separate hand roll sets since they usually serve you the next one when you are finished. But they gave me a good amount of time to finish my hand rolls before giving me the next one. And they always checked on me from time to time to make sure that I was doing okay. I was definitely satisfied, and I can't wait until the next time I come back.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place!! My favorite rolls are the spicy salmon crunch, spicy tuna crunch, scallop, and albacore. The garlic edamame is also delicious! The service is better at the fountain valley location but Huntington Beach has a larger menu and bar. I wish they'd set up the patio here bc it could be really cute. Definitely a must try if you like fresh hand rolls.
google avatar

Yelp
Loving the simplicity and deliciousness of the food here. The staff is so friendly and attentive which makes the meal even better. I enjoyed the space as it's busy but not overfilled.

Yelp
I came on a weekend and there was a long wait. Make sure to put yourself on waitlist. I waited for 30-40 minutes before getting seated. I got the 6 set menu which comes with different hand rolls. It was all super yummy and fresh. Definitely will be back to try other items on the menu.
google avatar

Yelp
The fish quality is so good!! Every time I eat here, it's so nice knowing whatever I get is going to be delicious. Off the top of my head, i've had the salmon/spicy salmon, yellowtail, scallop, lobster (fire), and toro (favorite). ALWAYS with a side of fresh wasabi- if you haven't tried fresh wasabi you're missing out! Their service is always amazing too- it seems like any place thats KEI concept is well taken care of, and we love that for our community! So so delicious, very comparable to Kazu Nori

Yelp
This was the first place we got food from when we arrive to HB. Order was placed using DoorDash for pickup. Everything was ready and staff was prompt upon arrival. Parking was plenty outside and free. The inside of the restaurant looked nice to sit down and eat as well. My mum and I wanted to eat something fresh, light, and pescatarian. ROL did not disappoint! Every bite we had was flavorful and very delicious. I liked the different garnishes it was hidden under the spicy tuna don. My mum loved the toro-don. It wasn't overly seasoned and the rice to fish ratio was perfect. I also got unagi don which was just as delicious. I liked the smoky charred flavor. It was just right. She's a very picky eater when it comes to fish anything because of her upbringing in Tokyo. We are so ready to get our Okawari! (i.e. seconds). Next time we return, we hope to eat inside and check out other items too. Looking forward to visiting again in the near future.

Yelp
Kei Concepts really are expanding their food offerings. Came in the late afternoon and was sat immediately. The restaurant is small and intimate so I can only imagine the wait during peak service time. There have set options or choose your own options. I decided to choose my own set of 6 and got some chili garlic edamame to go with it. Edamame was good, just extremely messy lol. The rolls are decent and taste great, however I think KazuNori is better if I think of quality to price.

Keisha A.

Yelp
My daughter and I frequent this location regularly! We enjoy doing the roll sets (5-7 pieces). If we are shorter on time, we sit at the bar... we ordered the furikake fries last time and the fries were extra crispy... so bomb when you don't even have to ask haha. Anyway, out of our 5+ visits we have been very happy! Thank you Rol for the hospitality and good food!!
google avatar

Kyle Andrea F.

Yelp
Went here for the first time for a birthday reservation! This location was very small and intimate which would be perfect for a date night. I think without the reservation, the wait would've been long. I ended up choosing the six set hand roll, and I thought that the six set would not be enough however it was surprisingly filling. The fish was so fresh and tasty. The staff was very attentive and brought the next hand roll in a timely manner. This place definitely tops my kei concepts tier list.

Yelp
My favorite hand roll bar ..., incredible .. now I don't miss Kazanoti! I usually order the 5 hand roll set ! I love the crunch in the tuna hand roll. Very consistent ! Also the staff is super cool

Yelp
ROL Hand Roll Bar is another popular addition to the Kei Concepts lineup. This location was in Huntington Beach and I liked how their wait wasn't as long compared to their Fountain Valley location. They have a parking lot with ample spots available, which are 1 hour spots only, although you only really need an hour here. When you walk in you'll notice that it's definitely the dark and modern aesthetic. It's a very intimate setting, especially if you sit at their bar seating. They have tables/booths available as well but I don't see this being a good spot if you have a large group coming in. As this was our first time, our server recommended their set menus in addition to their popular crispy rice tartare. Our server was super attentive of us, always checking in, making sure we had enough of everything, and super nice! We ended up getting the 6 piece set, the tartare, Tokyo Breeze, and Oni. The crispy rice tartare comes with 3 pieces and it was perfectly crispy with a good amount of tartare placed on top! They are small bites but it's a nice appetizer to start the meal. The 6 piece comes with a wide variety of fishes and everything was very fresh. Now I will say that the rolls were pretty basic, like the first roll being just rice and salmon or some sort of combination plus a sauce. If you love hand rolls then this is a great spot to check out! If you're not so keen on it, then maybe try one of their other locations. The 6 pieces was a decent amount, we left feeling satisfied but not full. But the drinks were incredible! My Tokyo Breeze was so good, with the perfect amount of foam from the egg whites, and unique combination of fruity flavors. The Oni was also so good as they add a smoked element to the cocktail. I really liked how the aftertaste gave off a smokey walnut taste to it too! Overall this was a nice dining experience. I'd like to come back and try their lunch bowls one day!

Yelp
This review is for takeout. I received a promo for 20% off takeout in March 2024 and decided to give it a shot. I have eaten here once prior, in restaurant, at the hand roll bar and had a good experience. My takeout experience, however, was the complete opposite. Upon opening my 5 maki box, I noticed that everything looked soggy. I was given packets of ginger and wasabi (when the restaurant gives you better/ fresher ginger and wasabi). Upon first bite, my gut instinct was right - the maki was soggy, rice overcooked and too mushy, and fish flavors tasted old. And I even found a fish bone in my yellowtail maki! (Photo for proof). My toro-don bowl also was poor quality. Upon opening the bowl, the fish smell was off. I took a bite and didn't enjoy the flavor. The fish was not fresh and the worst part was it was filled with fish tendons so it was chewy toro instead of soft. After a few bites here and there, I didn't want to risk food poisoning. I tossed $50 worth of takeout. I won't be trying take out again!! Beware! I think their takeout fish is day old leftovers. The quality and freshness is NOT the same!

Yelp
My recent obsession has been Salmon Don bowls. Rol has exceptional service and the quality of their fish is divine. I love the food!

Yelp
Everything is so good! We got there right when they opened and was seated immediately, no wait. We tried a bunch of their hand rolls and each of them were so good ... I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. They are made fresh (literally in front of you) and it's melt in your mouth. The only thing I would probably skip is the crispy rice. Spend your money on the rolls! Also, get the Kaisendon! We got it without masago and it was so gooooooood! They pour broth when you've eaten about halfway to make another delicious dish.

Yelp
By far the best spot in OC for hand rolls! If you always have trouble ordering at restaurants, you're in luck here. They have a beautifully curated set menu where you can choose the number of rolls featured (5, 6, or 7). Each roll is freshly made to order and are best consumed ASAP for maximum enjoyment. Act fast before the seaweed softens! Of the rolls, my favorites seem to change all the time. Standouts include the Salmon, Spicy Tuna Crunch, and Scallop. I also recently tried out their newly added Kaisendon which features a host of fresh fish over rice. While absolutely delicious, the ratio of fish to rice was a bit off... it was mostly rice. If you're looking to give Kei Concepts a try, ROL is by far my personal favorite! Here, the taste and quality of their food and the overall experience truly matches the price tag. Absolutely worth.

Yelp
Service staff were very polite and attentive. We indulged in several rolls each. It's true eat them upon arrival, love they bring 1 at a time. I can recommend nearly all options for the rolls. As a side the cucumbers were a perfect fit, tangy and crisp and a touch of spice and sesame. Lychee nigori was delightful. Will be back. We were happily surprised to get a seat right away but we're prepared for a long wait without the kids.

Yelp
I recently visited ROL Hand Roll Bar and had an overall decent experience. The concept of custom hand rolls is great, and the ingredients were fresh, which is always a plus. The rolls were good, but nothing that really stood out as exceptional compared to other sushi spots I've tried. The service was friendly, though the wait was a little longer than I expected for a casual setting. It's best to grab a reservation if possible. The atmosphere was nice, but it felt a bit more on the basic side. It's a solid choice if you're in the mood for hand rolls, but it didn't blow me away. I'd be open to returning, though I'm not sure it would be my go-to for sushi.

Yelp
This was my second time coming here. My favorite hand rolls were the toro and unagi! The lobster was good. I felt like the salmon was mediocre, didn't stand out to me. The crispy rice tartare and the spicy tuna inari were really good, I would definitely get them again. The servers were attentive and kind, and the ambiance is very intimate. The only downside for me is it can be spendy for what it's worth. For the price, I would hope the salmon would be better quality. Personally, I think I prefer AYCE but this place is a good option from time to time.

Yelp
This place is a must-go to place in the OC area, especially if you're a big fan of sushi/seafood. I've been here a couple of times and I prefer sitting at the bar where you can watch your rolls being made. I've tried a couple of cocktails here as well, but the Yuzu Margarita I got this time around is my new favorite. It was a pleasant surprise, stronger than expected but really good. I chose the 6 set for my meal and swapped a scallop handroll for an extra toro. It's really hard to choose a favorite roll, but I would have to say the spicy tuna crunch was a nice change up from the rest and the toro was amazing. Highly recommend for anyone who loves fresh, well-made handrolls and a good drink.

Yelp
Service was quick and friendly! There also were not very many people, because we went around 11am on a Wednesday. Fish was very fresh and kaisen Don was a yummy lunch special, and very filling because they give you broth with your leftover rice. The rolls were also great, except for the truffle, we paid twice the price for the truffle, but we didn't taste truffle at all. We're wondering if the chef forgot the truffle... my boyfriend was pretty excited to share this spot with me because he loved the truffle hand roll, so he said it wasn't like this last time, so he was disappointed in his second time here

Yelp
ROL Hand Roll Bar is a great spot for a more intimate dining experience. The ambiance is dim and peaceful. Their seating is meant to hold smaller parties. My friend reserved a table for us, but they ended up seating us at the bar. Not a big deal. The service staff are attentive, patient, and always eager to aid with anything! One even offered to help take a picture of my friends and I. While ordering, they gave us recommendations and was super helpful. The menu has a variety of fish choices and how it's served. There are set menus, which are picked out for you in roll form. You can also mix and match, ordering any type of fish in roll, inari, or donburi form. This makes your order specific to your taste preference and much more exciting! The donburi is my personal favorite, as you get to try the fish as well as the tofu skin. The fish itself, no matter the kind, comes fresh and of top quality. If you are seated at the bar, they make it right in front of you, so exciting! We also tried the rice bowl, which comes with a lot, so it would be smart to share it while trying other items :) It was such a good experience, with lovely staff, fresh fish, and a zen atmosphere!

Yelp
Came here with friends which recommended me the place as well. Servers were super nice and easy-going and helpful with the first experience. Atmosphere is great and love the decorations and the mood of the restaurant. The food was great, nothing exceptional but it's comfort food for anyone needing a new place to take a casual date or meet up with friends again.
