The Best Italian Restaurants in Houston

"With its intimate dining room and outdoor patio illuminated with string lighting, Roma is a quintessential Houston date-night destination. The menu is a reflection of Italy’s 14 regions, with dishes like spaghetti aglio e olio, cacio e pepe, and osso buco, plus desserts like limoncello tarts and chocolate cannoli." - Marcy de Luna, Brittany Britto Garley

This local restaurant has been in business for over 25 years! Emad is such a pleasure to speak with! He even gave my husband a loaf of homemade bread! The food is always delicious as were the prices. Great place to have gatherings with a party room in the back, call ahead of time to schedule it. A great place for children a well as family get togethers. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESSES!

The food was delicious. I'm not sure why our wait was so long after we ordered our food but other than that, I would come back.

Google
Every single time without fail I will call in a order they will tell me 25 minutes- I always give 30-35 minutes, this time I gave 45 minutes before showing up to the restaurant to pick up my order and was still told “it’d be a few more minutes” I then proceed to wait another 20 minutes inside, it’s like they just start making the food as I arrive. With two other cars in the parking lot I found it hard to believe it was too busy. It’s such a shame the food is amazing but give it 2 hours before you pick up

Our intention was not for Italian, we were actually out for Japanese. I admit I made a mistake looking up a place. We ended up here. This is not an easy review to write. Full disclosure, I did not include any pics, as I did not feel like anything was worthy of one. It's a very dated and run down place both inside and out. The menu is the odd Greek/Italian mix I have run into out thisxl way on numerous occasions. After we were seated, a very pleasant server seated us and took our order for our appetizer, fried mushrooms. These were institutional mushrooms, meaning they came from a bag of pre-breaded frozen mushrooms fried to a very dark brown. The breading on them was very thick and flavor less. Next our order for mains was placed, eggplant parmigian and gyro platter. The eggplant came with a tossed salad and garlic bread. Let's start with the eggplant, arrived with pasta and I'm guessing was not institutional pre-made but homemade, and also forgettable. The marinara (red sauce) was homemade, tasteless. The 6 very small pieces of lamb were ok, but again forgettable, it came with choice of 1 side, fries or baked potato. The bake potato was the highlight, they tried the high end preparation of salting the exterior, but way too much salt. My overall review and experience is this was an entire waste of $40+ dollars. I would never recommend this place at any level. Very sad to share this as I adore dining out.

Compromise elsewhere. Our server was sweet and fairly attentive but the rest of the visit was sub-par. Came in on an early Sunday afternoon and it took an exceedingly long time to get some fairly easy orders for three people. Two of the meals were fair but the Alfredo chicken was pretty bad. I even heard another patron complain about it. Would not recommend.

I had drove by this place for years when I use to do work in Cherryville but had never stopped. Well, today my family and I happen to be in Cherryville, so we decided to stop in and try it. Long story short, the restaurant was about half full of people so not that busy. We sat down and ordered. Almost an hour and a half later they finally brought out our food. To be fair and honest, my wife and daughter said their’s was good. I couldn’t even bring myself to eat mine. I ordered baked ziti and it came out looking like a big dish of red soup with baked cheese on top with hardly no ziti or meat even in it. We never got our drinks refilled, my daughter never got her salad she ordered and we never got our bread that comes with our meals that we had ordered either. When we left, there were no apologies from anyone because of how long we had to wait and we were charged for everything we ordered even though we did not get everything we ordered. At this point, I didn’t even feel like arguing I was so upset. I just paid the bill and we left. I will NEVER step foot back into this place again!

Google
Avoid at all cost!! Building is in disrepair. Roof leak stained ceiling tiles, massive dust clumps on vents and fan. Swatting flies buzzing around you at your table, watching ants walk on the wall next to your arm. Food is delivered 1 meal at a time then. You wait a long time for another, and so on. Soda served in a bottle, not the fountain of soda that was not working. Fetacini Alfredo looked like a bowl of soup. Clearly no one cares about the building, food or customer experience. We attempted to speak with the manager and were told all restaurants have flies. When we said, “ants scrawling next to my arm, too”? The women servers said, “get out of here”. So we, a family of 4 did. ** Avoid this place and don’t even think of trying to go in there **

Google
Everything was good considering the time we arrived, 1 hour before closing. There wasn't alot of customers so they'd already started their pre-closing, but they were still pleasant

Yelp
It's very good and I love their food. But last week they gave us an old pizza . It was hard and wasn't eatable. We had to throw the whole thing out. We never had a problem with them and they have very nice Employees. Their customer service is awesome. I will probably go back and we will check everything before we get home.

Yelp
First time trying this place! We were set a a table, only two other groups in restaurant! Took forever to get our drinks! Then our salads came, nothing to write home about!! We waited a good 30 minutes to get our food, was not impressed!! Sorry!!! They were more worried about closing than their customers! Even the manager seen me looking for our server to get a to go box! Never said a word?

Yelp
Holy Toledo. This place is amazing for the Italian lover. We've been customers for over a year now, and it is definitely our go to for Italian food. Staff is great. We love this place. awesome choice of desserts.

Yelp
Great pizza, lasagna, spaghetti, salads, Stromboli. Bread could be better. Prices good and service. We come from Shelby to eat here once or twice a week.

Yelp
Cheese Steak Sub hoagie, Lasagna, veggie calzone Rarely do we get a chance to sit and eat there but we regularly call in orders at least once or twice a week. The food is always great, the order is always correct, and the price is within reason for the portion that you get. That's reason why we visit them often and recommend others do too.

Yelp
The husband is a pain in the butt, don't care about weather you buy from them or not. They take there time getting you the food to them , it sorry .

Eliut F.

Yelp
In the lasagna to much pasta and a little bit of meat , the meat have a lot of fat , don't recommend the lasagna in that place , don't look like a real Italian food

Yelp
Awful food and service. Me and my fiancé food was wrong and nasty. I wouldn't even give them 1 star

Michael D.

Yelp
Had the Roma special pizza. Was very good! Brought it as take out. Staff was helpful to me in choosing what I wanted. Price is competitive with other pizza places.

Yelp
This is one of the best Italian restaurants you'll find between Charlotte and Asheville. The food is really, really good and you can tell that they make everything fresh. I love white clam sauce but it's not something that every small Italian restaurant has. Roma does (both white and red) and it's delicious. Their meatballs are really good, too, with a lot of flavor. Sometimes meatballs are kind of a bland affair but Romas are excellent. Nice staff, great service, and pretty decent prices.

Yelp
I LOVE Roma Italian Restaurant! I eat here at least once a week with my family and the food never disappoints! I like to try different dishes just to keep it interesting, but some of my favorites are: grilled chicken salad (it's HUGE and delicious!), lasagna, souvlaki sandwich (the cucumber sauce is AMAZING!), and the vegetarian pizza! Sometimes we'll just come for coffee and dessert - they always have fantastic desserts! The lunch special is a really good deal, too! The service is wonderful and you're treated just like family!

Yelp
I was excited to try this place and tonight I was craving Italian. We ordered the fried mushrooms and the lasagna for 2. The fried mushrooms were very hard and crunchy; kinda regretted getting them. Next the main entree of Lasagna. I wish I could say great things because I was craving it so bad! I was bland and tasted like a frozen lasagna I've bought in a store. It wasn't even hot but lukewarm. A huge disappointment. I don't think I'll be returning any time soon.

Yelp
Food is good and pizza is really good. Normally you can come in and set right down. Nice people and the desert is good

Yelp
Great service fast and friendly. Greeted right as we walked in. Our drinks were given to us quickly our order placed and we didnt have to wait long for our food. Had left over for lunch the next day. The homemade sauce was delicious. Will return!

Yelp
Really enjoy Roma's. Open late most nights. Personal pizza is perfect for our 5 year old and the alfredo is amazing. Try the home made Italian dressing!

Angela A.

Yelp
Terrible experience. Our fries came out first 20 minutes later the cheese steak sandwiches came out. We did not get one of the sandwiches which we told them multiple times. We asked for more water never got it. Had to finally go to the kitchen to ask for the sandwich. They finally brought it out and the rest of us had already eaten No apologies just sat it on the table. They did not have enough silverware for everyone. Unbelievable.

Yelp
Their hot wings are actually really good - large and crispy. About $18 for 25, you can't beat that. Their grilled chicken salad is good too, the chicken is marinated and then grilled crispy. Their pasta dishes are all mediocre if you ask me. The baklava is homemade and always good. Their ranch dressing is made in-house and it's the best around.

Yelp
There are three things necessary to make a good restaurant: good food, good prices, good service. Roma has failed. A few weeks back we ate in the restaurant, and the service was lousy. My wife ordered a pizza, I ordered a stromboli, and my son ordered a cheeseburger. She got her pizza in about 20 minutes. I got my stromboli about 10 minutes later. My poor son didn't get his till we were leaving nearly 45 minutes later. The waitress only came to the table once in that time. He had to eat his mother's pizza. I chalked it up to covid, and a lack of good employees to pick from. Tonight, after working all day, and not feeling like going into a restaurant, we called in an order: 2 pizzas and a stromboli. We were told it would be 30 minutes. We were at the restaurant 25 minutes later. It took a full hour for the food to come out. Many other call in orders were picked up while we waited, but ours took a full hour from the time we called. I received a halfway apology, and I left. At home, my wife opened her pizza, and it was not fully cooked. Absolutely piss poor service, and uncooked food. We will not be back. If this downward trend continues I don't think anyone will be eating there for long.

Yelp
Love Roma's for lunch! They have subs and most Italian meals for under $10, and it's a very generous portion. They are very quick as well - plenty of time to grab lunch in under an hour! They will accommodate any request and the staff are so kind!

Sam A.

Yelp
This place is conveniently close to my job but I will never come back! You can get better lasagna from the frozen meals at a grocery store! I had a burger from there yesterday and got food poising, the only thing I had to eat that day. Worst experience hands down.

Yelp
This place is OK I consider a little expensive for what it is I feel it cost more than comparable places and the food is average at best it's OK it's not like I just wouldn't go there but defiantly not my first pick . Dining area is nice spacious and clean and I've never had any issues with the wait staff

Alexander B.

Yelp
The fried pickles were overcooked and you could tell the grease hadn't been changed out in a while. The fettuccine Alfredo was extremely plain, it was like eating a very tasteless sauce. Overall, it was not worth the price at $14 for the smaller than average portion I received. The service was good, the food wasn't. Overall, you can get higher quality for the same price at other Italian restaurants.

Yelp
Not a bad little Italian restaurant in cherryville. They are a little pricey for lunch but not terribly bad. As for dinner, there are better places you could choose ie. Milanos, only a mile down the road.

Pamela S.

Yelp
Order a birthday dinner chicken & steak Stromboli & pizza. We are from Philly so wasn't expecting much but wow the chicken Stromboli was fantastic. The gravy was very good. Pizza for the South was one of the better ones. Steak Stromboli was ok nothing out of the ordinary. Would go back again for sure one of the better places to eat in Cherryville NC

Yelp
I ordered food with out red sauce, but it was all over the dish. Shrimp and clans were small and hard. GRADE : F. We have been eating there for 10 yrs and the food quality just keeps going down. Never again.

Yelp

google avatar

Yelp
Great if you can't go anywhere else. Tastes liked frozen food. Definitely not a "must visit" place.

Yelp
This place is absolutely still open and we love it. Best cheese steak sub ever. Fresh bread is delicious there. We all have our favs. Mine is chicken Alfredo. The hubby loves the sub's, daughter lives the spaghetti & meatballs, soon loves the pizza and my mom loves the smell hair pasta. My point is... Best Italian food in Cherryville and beyond.

Yelp
Imed keeps it real in the kitchen. I don't know how to spell his name. But the food is amazing and consistent. The service is great.

Yelp
OPEN...ROMA IS OPEN, and it's really good. Helpful nice people, good service, fabulous Stromboli and Calzones and good coffee.
