Metro Detroit’s Best Italian Restaurants

"Roman Village is a classic red sauce joint — large, saucy portions of pasta, lots of heavy cream, chicken cutlets, pizzas, and calzones all for an affordable price. The pillowy, herbed bread is the ideal tool to sop up sauces. Though Roman Village has a few different locations, the original Dearborn outpost is the spot to go. It’s full of old-school, Italian American family restaurant vibes, and has been a pillar of the community for decades." - Danny Palumbo

Google
Great Italian restaurant. Worth the drive. High quality ingredients that they let shine in the recipe without overpowering them. Quaint interior with lots of Italian personality. Amazing complementary house bread. My biggest complaint about Italian restaurants is when the pasta is overcooked, their pasta was perfectly al dente.

Google
Probably the greatest Italian restaurant I’ve ever been to! I’m not from Detroit or anywhere from Michigan, but rather somewhere else 5 hours away. We came to Michigan for a Memorial Day Weekend Vacation and my family and I were hungry. I wanted to have Italian food as I don’t really eat it all the time, once in a blue moon. Either way, when we came in here at around 3:30pm or so, it was a great environment and friendly workers. It seems so nice and cleaned, music was played at the right volume. We were greeted and seated right away. Our server was a nice woman and she was the best server we had. Our food came in quick and it was the best for a good price! The appetizers are amazing, we had the bread one but I don’t remember the name. Either way, our family left happy and I definitely recommend this Italian restaurant anybody wanting to try out. :)

Google
This reminds me of a good old fashioned Italian restaurant. The food is excellent and you can tell the recipes are passed down from mama. They have an excellent wine list. I had Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, very tasty. I also had the bruschetta as an appetizer and was very pleased. I had gnocci for my main course and the dumplings were perfectly tender and delicious. Can't wait to come back and try the ravioli!

Anita

Google
Very authentic and delicious Italian restaurant. The pizza was amazing. The chicken Parmesan was amazing as well. I didn’t know what to get because it all sounded good. I wanted something outside of the box, my usual go to but I didn’t know what. So I told our waitress to choose something for me, surprise me. So I had no idea what I was going to get. Haha. Well I was served the Rita sauce gnocchi with chicken and bacon on top. It was really good. I’ve never had gnocchi but wanted to try it. Well I got to! It’s excellent food.

My wife and I love our date nights—a couple times a month we carve out time to reconnect over a great meal in a cozy, welcoming setting. For the past 20 years, we’ve been creatures of habit, frequenting the same handful of restaurants. But recently, we decided to branch out and explore some new places—and I’m so glad we did! This past Monday, with many of our regular spots closed, we searched for an Italian restaurant open on Mondays and stumbled upon Roman Village in Dearborn. From the moment we walked in, we felt right at home. The ambiance struck the perfect balance—warm lighting, white linens, and an inviting energy that you just can’t fake. We were a party of four, and not only were we seated quickly, but we were warmly greeted and given the option of a table or booth. But what truly made the night memorable was the incredible hospitality we received from the family who owns and runs the restaurant. We had the pleasure of meeting Mama Rita, the 82-year-old matriarch, who was walking the dining room guiding a new waitress with grace and pride. Then her son Patrick stopped by—twice!—to check on us, share a bit of the restaurant's rich history, and even give me a personal tour of their spotless kitchen. The food? Absolutely phenomenal. I had the Chicken Scaloppini, and I can honestly say it was the best I’ve ever had. The chicken was perfectly sliced and the white wine and caper sauce was unforgettable. We also shared a side of Fettuccine Alfredo—creamy, rich, and full of flavor—and the braised Brussels sprouts, which were a highlight all their own. Learning that Roman Village has been serving the community since 1964, and seeing the photos and painted portraits of their family, gave us an even greater appreciation for this gem. You can feel the love, the tradition, and the care in every detail. We left with full hearts and even fuller stomachs. Roman Village is now firmly on our date night rotation, and we can’t wait to return—and bring more friends and family with us. Thank you, Mama Rita and Patrick, for making our night so special. You truly made us feel like family.

Google
Food was fantastic. Service was very very good. Drinks were good, but they were cheaper in the bar area than the tables which I think is usual. Unfortunately, I did not get any pictures of the food. Only the table decoration that was on our reserved table because we sat back in the dining room with a big group.

Google
When they say "famous bread basket," they mean it. Had an amazing dinner with a solid beer. The restaurant was packed, and the staff on their A game. They made sure that every table were taken care of.

Google
Wow! This place is great. I've moved this into my top five Italian restaurants. Cozy, charming, clean and top notch food. The bread alone is worth the trip. We had the Chicken and pasta and the Chicken Marsala. Everything was great! Fabulous wine too.

Yelp
We had a fantastic experience start to finish. The gluten free bread basket, pizza and salad were all delicious with top notch service. Looking forward to future visits!

Yelp
Several of my team members rave about this restaurant. For our team picnic we ordered chafing dish size bread sticks, three containers worth, two house salad and two Caesar salads in chafing dishes. Some of the Romaine lettuce in both salads were brown. The croutons should have been separate, they were soggy after an hour or so. The base of the chafing dishes had quite a bit of water at the bottom and made the lettuce quite wilted quickly. Their house salad has green olives, red onion, carrot shredded, tomatoes and I only saw one pepperoncini. The bread sticks were chewy and good and tasted good with their house ranch sauce too. The better part is the food was able to be picked up earlier than most places.

Yelp
The food my party of 4 was served hot and tasty. But, not in a timely manner. Our waitress was not on point and she did not speak very clearly when taking our orders. The ambience was nice. Somewhat clean. But, tired. First, walking in from the parking lot. The black top is in serious need of repair. Too many pot holes. Faded painted parking lines. Second walking in on a Saturday afternoon at 5pm on the dot. We were sat immediately. But, our waitress did not come for 10 minutes after being sat. She never spoke of her name. The establishment was somewhat empty. Then was fully seated with in minutes of our arrival. There was a party of 8 near us (whoe's waitress was on point) that arrived after us, served drinks and all their food and were gone before we had a chance to get our meals. It took 1 hour to get our meals. Also seen a bus boy drop a carrier of sugar packets off a table onto the floor, all over. That he was cleaning. Picked them back up and placed them back on the table for the next patrons to sit. Not cool. I did see some wait staff speed walking to get their food served quick. That was impressive. Unfortunately our waitress wasn't in a rush. We'll come back another day for hopefully better service.

Yelp
5+! Our experience was top notch! We entertained friends for a lovely dinner party. We were greeted by the maitre d, Frankie who was most attentive, even ensuring that our special "off the menu" requests were met (the antipasti course was divine and so beautifully and bountifully presented). Frankie made sure to secure the exact table requested and had wine at the ready, serving it just as our guests sat down. Our server, Miranda was pitch perfect; quietly attentive without being intrusive, but never allowing us to go wanting. I cannot recommend this family establishment too highly. They exceeded all our expectations!

Yelp
Take Out Review. Ordered 2 Party Tray Pizzas (1 pepperoni, 1 special), a large order of bread, and a large tray of Antipasti Salad. They gave us extra plates, utensils, ranch, condiments. Everything was on time, prepared well, and tasted great. I would definitely order from them again.

Yelp
This place is absolutely epic and everyone needs to go at least once!!!! This place has been here since 1964 and you can see all the history. I used to come here as a little kid and went back a few weeks ago and it's just gotten better with time. It's a family owned business. The ambiance is just so unique that everyone has to just go check it out to see what I mean. It's fascinating because it's this extremely authentic restaurant in the heart of East Dearborn which is very Arabic. The food is 5/5, you cannot go wrong!! Their bread is the same bread they made when I was little and it's so unique to this restaurant and the sister restaurant, Antonio's. I ordered the gnocchi. I would walk around the restaurant as well to see the decor. It's over the top and epic. You'll see what I mean when you go there. Service is excellent. This place is hands down the best Italian restaurant in Michigan. I'm half Italian and have been to Italy 14 times my life to visit family in the summers and I can tell you with absolute certainty no one does it better than this family!!! Antonio's is owned by the same family so you can check that place out too. Buon appetito!!

Yelp
Staff and owners were extremely attentive and made the dinner fantastic. They warned me not to eat all the bread, but I still managed to eat half my fettuccine!

Isabella S.

Yelp
Amazing service. We called and placed an order and went to pick it up and they said we placed the other at the wrong store because the phone number was wrong or something. Nice girl at the front called the other store and cancelled the order for us and expedited our food in the back and we got it all in less than 20 minutes. Excellent service and food was delicious! Will be returning

Yelp
I ordered a large two item pizza for pick up on Friday, 31 January. It was ready on time. But when I arrived home, the pizza was a bit over baked. I ordered cheese and pepperoni. Not much pepperoni on it. Not very tasty either. I ate one piece and could not eat any more. About an hour later, my stomach was upset.

Yelp
Dearborns #1 restaurant celebration of 60 years going on for the next couple months. A must visit for Dearborn Restaurant Week and NFL draft,  only minutes from the heart of Detroit. ROMAN VILLAGE CUCINA ITALIANA Open since 1964, the Roman Village Cucina Italiana Restaurant on Dix Road in Dearborn stands as one of Michigan's iconic dining venues for the last 60 years. That single restaurant is now part of a group of five restaurants, with the newest additions being named after Patrick's father: Antonio's Cucina Italiana. The four brothers help Mama Rita run the group of five restaurants. Long gone in Sw Detroit Vincent's and Sammy's pizzeria,  only Paul's opened 1962 and Roman Village remains.  This truly is part of Sw Detroit just a couple hundred yards to the border,  across from Patton Park and Woodmere Cemetery.  Had the very best deal all of Dearborn M-F lunch specials only $9.95, got the Famous Meatballs Panini .  Been a customer since opening,  thousands drive from all over Metro-Detroit each month.  I added the Sicilian Arachi be Cheese Stuffed Rice Balls,  yes I had all the balls .  She had fantastic Antipasto Salad with the marvelous Ranch Dressing,  a big basket of Hot Famous Bread hits the table before ordering .  House made fresh pasta inside the front door,  gets no better,  my favorite pasta dish Spaghetti Carbonara "Alla Bocelli" Prepared with eggs, Pancetta (bacon) and parmesan cheese. A recipe Andrea Bocelli prepared himself in our kitchen Totally blown away dozens of times,  the very best ever eaten.  Stay tuned Mama Rita making a Cookbook available in a few months Stay tuned .  See restaurant website for full menu https://antoniosrestaurants.com/ #romanvillage @romanvillage

Yelp
Deeeeelish! Great food and service. We gobbled just about everything up. Also, always love when the manager or owner (not sure) comes out and says hello and asked how our meal was. We will be back for certain
google avatar

Julie W.

Yelp
Less popular I think but the food is miles better than it's counterpart, Antonio's. I prefer Roman Village for their sauces, which they really spend more time perfecting. Plus, from everything I've experienced their ownership and management are nicer, I've had some bad interactions at Antonio's before. Will be back always.
google avatar

Karen K.

Yelp
Great food and service. Owners are very frequently seen. The bread sticks are the best.

Carolyn M.

Yelp
Delicious food and exceptional service. Had a minor mix up in my carryout order and the restaurant sent the missing item to my home. Above and beyond the call of duty but very appreciated.

Yelp
So my two visits to Roman village have been a bit of a mixed bag. My first visit was last October for my birthday. My family and I had an awesome time. The food tasted very authentic and made me feel like I was back in Italy. Carbonara is my fave food and it's very hard to find an authentic real carbonara outside of like NY or the east coast in the US. The first time I visited the carbonara was incredible. This most recent time last week on the other hand.. a waste of money. I stopped in last Friday about 40 minutes before close. I am of the opinion that if you take a customer in, you need to be willing to give them the same quality of food and service that you would give to someone at opening. Otherwise, change your hours and close early? Simple. My server was extremely rude and rushy. I asked for a tiramisu because it was my birthday dinner and the server got an attitude. Then came back saying the manager said I could have it but had to get it to go? Um, ok? Next, the carbonara came out within 6 minutes so you know it wasn't fresh, and was extremely dry and stale. The pasta tasted like it had likely been sitting up for a while and was given to me because it was the end of the night. I instantly regretted the calamari as well which was completely devoid of taste or flavour. Server acted like it was a massive deal to get marinara sauce instead of cocktail and tried to nickel and dime me for every little thing. I'm not sure if the first or the second visit were the exceptions or the norm, but either way it hasn't really motivated me to want to come back and spend 50 bucks on mediocre food and poor service again. Just close early if you don't wanna take customers. Don't take it out on me.

Yelp
It's Roman village ! What's not to love about it , been coming here since a kid ! Must try ! Pizza , Greek salad oh my the bread ! And the ranch and the soups ! Staff is amazing and take their time . Feels like home .

Yelp
Excellent meal. Gluten free options were fantastic. Also offered gluten free bread. Nice variety on the menu. Would go back

Gricelda C.

Yelp
I hate leaving a negative review but this one.. I just can't let it slide. I have been eating here since I was a child, I even came here for dinner when I did my confirmation. I ordered a lasagna that was $20 just for them to give me this.... Never again

Yelp
Their bread and chicken parmigiana is phenomenal. Honestly, every single thing on their menu is delicious, down to the coffee, and the service is always incredible.

Yelp
One of the best things to eat if you're not feeling good or if you just want some good food. quart of the Chicken Pastina soup Fresh Baked Bread Basket

Mark A.

Yelp
Used to love Antonio's and Roman Village, unfortunately, both the quality of the food and service has gone down. After bad experiences at my last 3 visits at two different locations, my family won't be going back. First, horrible service. The one waiter huffed and sighed for asking for a carry out box. Next, 3 percent charge with using a credit card. The last straw was a $16 charge for brining a cake from outside. Keep in mind, the server didn't help serve the cake, nor did we get any extra plates or silverware. Very disappointed. I don't think I'm the only one either. Before Covid we used to have to wait 45 minutes for a table for 4. Not any longer, walked right in the last 3 times even with a party of 16 people. It's a sad day for my family, this used to be one of our top two restaurants we ate at.

Yelp
Whether you're at Roman Village, or Antonio's, you guaranteed some amazing Italian food. This has been a staple for me and my family. Their homemade bread always hits. They have not changed the decor, which gives it a very old-school and homey feeling the service is always very fast.
google avatar

Vincent L.

Yelp
Is it good, yes. Is it pricey also yes. Does it worth it maybe. Food does taste homemade and not heavy. You know some so call Italian restaurants use cheap ingredients and food end up being so heavy you can't finish . Surprise there is a good/real Italian restaurant in the middle of Yemeni village
google avatar

Norma H.

Yelp
I have been going to the Roman village for over two decades have never been disappointed with the food or the service! I am moving out of state and I am going to miss them. I have tried finding a place near where I'm going to be moving to close to this type of Service and food and have had no luck! I hope that you get to try it and enjoy it

Yelp
So exciting they celebrating 60 years with great specials, see the website. Had many dozen fantastic meals, #1 restaurant in all of Dearborn for a great reason. Famous Addictive Bread and Pasta made in house. Three huge dining rooms and a full bar. Love the Pasta Pizzas and Desserts, authentic Italian unlike others in Dearborn. Over 5000 thousand reviews around the web. Always five star service.

Yelp
Food is delicious every time. Definitely a restaurant to revisit. Great Italian food. Cute environment also.
google avatar

Yelp
Service is great. The bread is still amazing. I love the service there (especially Emo), but food is not as good as it used to be.

Yelp
This place is absolutely amazing! Delicate, handmade pasta melts in your mouth. He usually gets the Chicken Antonio, but this time he got the Tortellini Alla Panna which is meat or cheese filled tortellini prepared with peas and ham in a rich cream sauce. He loved it. and I go for the baci- every time- the most amazing dish on the menu! Baci means big kisses and it is little pasta purses filled with grana padana parmesan cheese, morsels of prosciutto and ricotta cheese in a cream sauce with mushrooms and peas. You must try! This restaurant is delicious all the way around. The bread is to die for! House bottles of wine are a good value. The food makes the drive and location worth it every time! You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
WOOWWW! I loved this place and I just visited! I loved how as soon as me and my family visited they seated us soo quickly. The food was even better! It tasted so good and had a lot of flavors. The Ambiance was so gorgeous and nice it made me feel all fancy. Sorry I didn't put a lot into this review I just hope you guys come here. Bye

Erica L.

Yelp
Everything here is phenomenal! From the pizza and calzones to the pastas, salads, and cannolis--each dish is bursting with flavor. The wine selection complements the meal perfectly. A must-visit for Italian food lovers!
google avatar

Yelp
This is real homemade Italian food! My wife and I came here for our early Valentine's Day dinner. It was packed and took a long time to get a table. It was worth the wait. I've been coming here for 20 years and I'm happy to say it hasn't changed. The food is homemade Italian and portions are huge. The bread is fresh and awesome. The antipasto salad is tremendous. You won't be disappointed. It used to be a hidden gem not so much anymore. It's in a weird part of town right next to the industrial factories. Everything we had was awesome. Service was good. It was really busy and food was still as expected. I'll always go enjoy a meal here. If you haven't experienced the villa go give it a try.

Yelp
Roman Village has been around over 50 years so there doing something right. Why drive to Italy when you go here for the finest of Italian dinners, Yes I did have spaghetti again. It was home made pasta with meat sauce and two meatballs the size of your fist. OMG it was delicious and Plentiful . I could only eat 1/2 my dinner. The lady of the house tried their small anti pasta salad that fed 3 of us! She ordered a not so small pizza with distinctive tasty high quality cheese. Impeccable Service by none other then Emo (ask for him). Expresso coffee Was excellent. They bring you huge baskets of homemade buttered bread . All pasta made on sight and you can really tell. Don't forget to try the pasta fagioli bean soup in a tomato base! We went back again 7/20/20 and it is still a 5 star. Yup i ordered same angel hair spaghetti with two meatballs! Wife ordered Covatelli Bolognese which is a Homemade Shell shaped pasta in a creamy meat dauce

Yelp
I wasn't impressed at all. You are better off going to Olive Garden. First my lamb chops were not cooked correctly after they took forever to bring them out in the first place. Then they redid them and they were good the second time. But by the time I got them my dates food got cold as he was wasting for me. The drinks are good but the alcohol isn't strong. The spaghetti noodles were too hard for my taste. The salad was good but you can't really mess up salad.
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
Amazing food and service!!! Definitely worth the visit especially if you are interested in authentic Italian food! The amount of food along with quality is perfect!! Emo rocked it!
google avatar

Michele O.

Yelp
Have visited a handful of times and the food is always so good, I can't recommend this restaurant enough. It's a bit out-of-the-way for me so I don't go as much as I would like, but always worth the trio. Pizza, pasta whatever you get, all delicious.
google avatar

Keri H.

Yelp
Authentic Italian dishes which are scrumptious. Decor is very "Italian" which is appreciated. Staff nice, service friendly.

Keyla R.

Yelp
The guy on the phone was mean not friendly at all. I hope the service and food are better because 1st impressions count.

Alden B.

Yelp
Their steak calzones are good. Highly recommend and they deliver. Always get the mamma or papa calzone.
google avatar

Jessica R.

Yelp
Roman Village is our go-to for catering meetings. They have a great option to create your own pasta dish, so we get mostaccioli with palomino sauce. It's great for meetings because it tastes wonderful, it's vegetarian, and the short noodles are easier to eat neatly with a fork. We always get a party tray of pizza, and a tray of Greek salad. This makes for a filling, tasty meal that is reasonably priced.

Mary C.

Yelp
We are visiting from out of town and decided on Roman Village because of the homemade pasta. The bread is amazing. The Chicken Pastina Soup really had no flavor. The stuffed mushrooms with shrimp and crabmeat were very tasty. There were 4 in the serving and the cream sauce was very tasty. I would say worth the price. We both had a "Slap-u-facetini" and it was a delicious cocktail. I had the Baci (Big Kisses) The pasta and the filling was succulent, the sauce was very tasty, the serving HUGE! Hubby had Seafood Mannicotti. It was a generous serving of 3 large, tasty maniccotti with a tasty sauce. In the end we were only able to eat half of either of our meals. With a meal of this caliber I thought we would be offered fresh grated cheese (there was cheese shaker on table) and fresh ground pepper. We were not. Our waiter Emo was attentive and per our instructions did not rush us. All in all I would say this was a very nice experience nd the quality of the cuisine was high.
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Went there for a bday party there was 14 of us. Service was great. Food was really good. Bread was amazing could have eaten a basket myself.

Mia G.

Yelp
The food is amazing and it was a good portions...even through carry out! I had the Linguine Aglio Olio. Yum!

Frank B.

Yelp
Great service for dinner for a family of 12. Emo is excellent as a server. The food is fabulous. Whata great experience.

Waleed A.

Yelp
Horrible service from cashier. She gave me two menus and said so next time you know how to order correctly. This kind of customer service is unacceptable. She did it right in front of the manager (Ameen). It's not the same place as it use to be. Unbelievable.

Rose W.

Yelp
Five stars plus! Fourteen of us visited Roman Village on New Year's Eve and had an amazing dinner/celebration. At least twelve different entrees were ordered, and Emo, the best waiter in metro Detroit, served all of us beautifully. Thank you, Roman Village and Emo, for making our evening perfect.

Yelp
I'm struggling between a 4 and 5. Probably would give a 4.5 if possible. First off, maybe it's just because I haven't had a cannoli in a long time, but oh boy their cannolis are to DIE FOR. And they are not too sweet. I will definitely be coming by just for the cannolis in the near future. Anyway, they make their own pasta fresh daily! That is so awesome! The bread they serve is absolutely delicious. My boyfriend says its the best bread that he's been served at a restaurant. I think it's because of the garlic flavor. Anything with a lot of garlic is a win for me. They also have the good ranch for your salad (and bread) if you know what I'm talking about ;) We tried the gnocchi with meat sauce and baci - big kisses (weird name?). Both were super delicious although the baci - big kisses was too salty for me and too rich. Although it was delicious, it is something that I would like a few bites of, but not more than that. However, I suppose this is what I would say about any cream based Italian food. The saltiness probably partly comes from the fact that it is stuffed with parmesan and prosciutto. And the richness isn't a surprise either since it's in a cream based sauce. The building and location of the restaurant itself isn't anything fancy, but who cares when the food is good and it's a classic?

Benjamin M.

Yelp
Great place to visit if you like good Italian food made from scratch a family-owned business I definitely recommend it
google avatar

John K.

Yelp
My dear friends mentioned going to Romans for lunch bc we had not been there in 30 years. This year is its 55th year in providing excellent Italiana. The service was fast and our waitress was fantastic. Excuse me for not remembering the young ladies name. I ordered the shrimp scampi along with my choice of broccoli. This came with soup or salad and of course I ordered the fagiolo. It was of course very good. The scampi arrived in a reasonable time and it was unlike any I have had. Good size soft tender shrimp served in a deep scampi sauce. This dish was just loaded with that buttery garlic flavor. I would recommend it for sure. My friends ordered the chicken Parmesan and cheese ravioli and both raved about their dishes. Definitely go back...

Yelp
One of my favorite Italian restaurants. Always my go to place in Dearborn Michigan. Home made pasta made each day.
