Hot San Diego Restaurant Openings You May Have Missed, October 2025 | Eater San Diego

"Bay Park — Replacing the former La Pastaia Italian-American restaurant is Romanello Cucina Romana , which slings central and northern Italian dishes such as cacio e pepe and pappardelle Bolognese. Warm Italian bread lands on the table as diners are seated; the custom Italian oven bakes pinsa, a Roman-style oblong flatbread hand-pressed with fermented Caputo flour and topped with tomato sauce or mozzarella. A native of Rome, co-owner James Pasquali says he wants to “introduce true Italian dishes from his hometown to the neighborhood.”" - Helen I. Hwang

Absolutely incredible experience! James and Diego truly make this place what it is. Their energy, hospitality, and attention to detail are unmatched — you feel like family the second you walk in. The food? Outstanding. Easily some of the best Italian in Bay Park and the Mission Bay area. Every dish is fresh, full of flavor, and clearly made with love. If you’re looking for fantastic Italian food in San Diego with service that goes above and beyond, this is the spot. James and Diego are the heart of the restaurant — they make every visit memorable. Highly recommend!

I am so glad that this restaurant is right across the street from me because I would literally drive an hour to go here if I had to- it was soo good. I had the carbonara lasagna and my 6 yo son had gnocchi with alfredo sauce. Both were absolutely delicious. The service was flawless. The atmosphere reminded me of the restaurants in Europe- comfortable, not packed with too many tables, and a nice hum of conversation, but not overly loud. Perfect place for a romantic dinner or equally appropriate for a family night out. Excellent wine selections, authentic food options, excellent quality of ingredients, excellent presentation, excellent service, excellent location (ample free parking, close to freeway), reasonably priced, excellent excellent excellent. Go tonight! *Came for a second time and I just want to say, please, I beg you- skip the terrible parking of Little Italy and come here! Diego, you have made this dining experience *magical* my son and I love you!

I have lived in Bay Park all my life and seen this place be many different establishments. We really enjoyed our meal last night. The tableside cheese wheel pasta was so delicious, and so are their Roman style pizzas. But dare I say, server Richard stole our hearts? He was the best! 10/10 and coming back!

We had an amazing dinner at Romanella Cucina Romana! The pasta Bolognese was absolutely delicious -fresh, rich, and full of flavor. The place itself is beautiful and cozy, and the service was truly outstanding. It was my birthday, and they even surprised me with a tiramisu -such a lovely touch! Highly recommend this restaurant!😍

Got here early in the evening, just as the sun was starting to set. Gorgeous view of the sunset was complimented by inviting and romantic music in the background. The server, Mateo, was friendly and professional and let us know they had just opened several days ago. We had a great experience, the food was good - my salmon was fantastic, and the cocktails were lovely; I strongly recommend the ginger Vespa. Definitely worth checking out this new spot in Bay Park, it’s a gem!

I love this place, we ordered special Salmon, Saltimbocca alla Romana, Pinsa Diavola, and a Meatball sandwich! Everything was delicious! Service and the atmosphere were great! The desserts were mouth-dropping. Very friendly team and has a big patio if you want to bring your dog.

Newly opened spot. Liam and River are super talented bartenders. Request the “Liam version” of the espresso martini if you would prefer a smoother and creamier texture. Will update with several entree reviews assp.

This is a great place for authentic Italian cuisine. My daughter brought me last night and it was wonderful. It is not your typical run-of-the-mill offerings but really creative and unusual selections. The fried zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta were so delicate and tasty, something I have never seen before. Their sauce Bolognaise was really good, not too much tomato, not greasy, just rich and flavorful. The Tiramisu was also very good and the presentation was top notch. The wine from from the Tuscan town of Montepulciano was a perfect accompaniment to the meal. The service was on-point with everything timed properly. It really felt like a first class (maybe even Michelin starred) experience!
