Hot San Diego Restaurant Openings You May Have Missed, October 2025 | Eater San Diego

"Bay Park — Replacing the former La Pastaia Italian-American restaurant is Romanello Cucina Romana , which slings central and northern Italian dishes such as cacio e pepe and pappardelle Bolognese. Warm Italian bread lands on the table as diners are seated; the custom Italian oven bakes pinsa, a Roman-style oblong flatbread hand-pressed with fermented Caputo flour and topped with tomato sauce or mozzarella. A native of Rome, co-owner James Pasquali says he wants to “introduce true Italian dishes from his hometown to the neighborhood.”" - Helen I. Hwang

Delicious food, our server Diego is not only exceptionally attentive to us but very passionate and knowledgeable about the food. He greeted us enthusiastically at the entrance and checked in with us every time he walked past our table. The dishes he recommended tasted great and his energy made it even better. It's an overall very enjoyable dining experience.

We finally made it out to try Happy Hour at Romanella's, the newest Italian ristorante to land at this Bay Park location. It’s the third incarnation here in the last five years (formerly Farmer’s Table and La Pastaia), and we sincerely hope this one is here to stay… because oh my 😍...so good! The food and atmosphere are the best we’ve experienced in this space yet. The drink service can a little slow a bit when it gets busy, but having spent time in Italy where lunch can easily stretch to three hours, we gave it grace… and still happily gave five stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ because it was that good. Off the Happy Hour Menu we had and enjoyed the Insalate Di Cesare, The Suppli and The Pinsa Margherita. I enjoyed a tasty classic Martini and my bride her Roman Spritz - their version of an Aperol Spritz. The place was absolutely buzzing for a Sunday evening, filled with great music, lively energy, and a warm, convivial vibe. Much of the waitstaff is Italian, which adds a layer of authenticity you can feel the moment you sit down. The food and drinks were fantastic across the board 🍝🍷 We’re already looking forward to going back for dinner. We have guests visiting soon, and this will be a perfect spot to show off what Bay Park dining is all about. Bravo… and welcome to the neighborhood Romanella! ✨

This place opened a few months ago and I’m so excited that my friends and I got to try it! It’s decorated so cute both indoor and outdoor! We went for HH and dinner last night and it was so delicious! There are so many goodies on the HH menu including delicious cocktails! The service was great! Diego was amazing and so sweet! There’s plenty of parking available in the lot.I definitely recommend giving this place a try if you’re looking for yummy Italian food! Food/drink review: Zucca di fiori: (5/5) These zucchini blossoms were so delicious! Great flavor, texture, and the sauce was perfection! We ended up ordered multiple for the table. Caesar salad: (3.5/5) The perfect sharing portion, but wish there was more dressing on the salad. Suppli: (5/5) These were some of the best rice balls I’ve ever had. They had the perfect crunch and the flavor. We ordered 2 of these as well. Oxtail meatballs: (4/5) Super tender and flavorful! Pappardelle Bolognese: (4/5) This dish was okay. Something was missing but can’t put my finger on it. Overall, it was pretty tasty! Lasagna: (3.5/5) This wasn’t my favorite. It’s a nice portion, but I felt it was lacking in flavor. Pines porchetta (4/5): Yummy flat bread! Super light and great for the table to share. The smoked mozzarella was a great touch. Ravioli al portobello: (4/5) This was the best pasta sauce on our table! Their white sauces are delicious!!! Tiramisu: Presentation is definitely 5/5, it was pretty tasty. It has a strong coffee flavor, which I don’t prefer but everyone devoured it!

Wow. What an amazing restaurant!!! Not one dish we ordered disappointed us everything was top tier, fresh and so tasty!! Our server, Diego, was the best part of our night. He made sure to check on us constantly and made sure we were well taken care of. This place will succeed with Diego on their side 😊 We will definitely be coming back and recommending this restaurant to family and friends. Wishing nothing but the best for this new, but upcoming, restaurant!!♥️

I wasn’t sure what to expect when trying out this new Italian spot in Clairemont last night, it I was absolutely blown away by the quality of the meal. These are real Italians, straight from Italy. First off, it’s a nice interior and general set up, though I should note that sitting g next to the large folding glass doors will set you up for a bit of a chill. Thoughtful decorations and style back a nice, calm atmosphere. The staff are very welcoming and eager to help you out. It truly feels like a Roman welcome. We kicked things off with charcuterie and burrata. The charcuterie was the low-point of the meal for me—while the toasted bread, arugula, and meats were all pretty good, the cheese selection just wasn’t my favorite. They were all a bit understated and I wasn’t the biggest fan. The burrata, however, was legitimately some of the best I’ve ever had. The pesto and tomatoes that accompanied that creamy burrata were top-notch flavor bombs. The pasta dishes were absolutely delicious and unforgettable. These pasta tasted house-made from scratch. If they aren’t, they’re using some extremely high-quality stuff. The lasagna was mind-boggling good, with deep flavor and a perfect cook on every layer. The paparadelle bolognese was also delicious. The noodles al dente and that bolognese was perfectly rendered plated. Loved almost everything about this experience. Can’t wait for a second episode at Romanesque Cucina Romana, and happy that such a high-tier restaurant has popped up in little old Clairemont.

Newly opened restaurant in the Sprouts shopping mall. Not very impressive until you step inside this beautiful restaurant and be transported to Italy. We came here for Happy Hour on a weeknight. They have a great Happy Hour menu from 3-5pm. We ordered the Cesar salad, zucchini blossom appetizer, and their penne alla norma. We thought the zucchini blossoms were ok. Not very flavorful and too deep fried for our taste. Expected a nice and light appetizer but got something deep fried and heavy instead. The Cesar salad was good and so was the penne alla norma. We were given complimentary fresh bread with a delicious cacio e pepe sauce too. We will definitely return to try more items off their menu!

Absolutely incredible experience! James and Diego truly make this place what it is. Their energy, hospitality, and attention to detail are unmatched — you feel like family the second you walk in. The food? Outstanding. Easily some of the best Italian in Bay Park and the Mission Bay area. Every dish is fresh, full of flavor, and clearly made with love. If you’re looking for fantastic Italian food in San Diego with service that goes above and beyond, this is the spot. James and Diego are the heart of the restaurant — they make every visit memorable. Highly recommend!

I am so glad that this restaurant is right across the street from me because I would literally drive an hour to go here if I had to- it was soo good. I had the carbonara lasagna and my 6 yo son had gnocchi with alfredo sauce. Both were absolutely delicious. The service was flawless. The atmosphere reminded me of the restaurants in Europe- comfortable, not packed with too many tables, and a nice hum of conversation, but not overly loud. Perfect place for a romantic dinner or equally appropriate for a family night out. Excellent wine selections, authentic food options, excellent quality of ingredients, excellent presentation, excellent service, excellent location (ample free parking, close to freeway), reasonably priced, excellent excellent excellent. Go tonight! *Came for a second time and I just want to say, please, I beg you- skip the terrible parking of Little Italy and come here! Diego, you have made this dining experience *magical* my son and I love you!

Yelp
Welcome to Clairemont Romanella Cucina Romana! This restaurant has amazing food, a great bar and the vibe is fabulous. The staff are so attentive and made the dining experience absolutely perfect. Great happy hour as well. Perfect for date night, with the family, friends or girlfriends. Have been twice and can't wait to go back.

Yelp
I rarely leave a review, but thank you to Diego and your partners for bringing your great food and drink to Clairemont/Bay Park. The food was fabulous and your enthusiasm and service outstanding. We look forward to seeing you again!

Yelp
Came on a week day during happy hour, it was quite empty. I sat on the large outdoor patio out front. I ordered the Pinsa porchetta ($10 during HH) and Tonnarelli cacio e pepe ($18) as my entree. The meal came with complimentery bread (fociccia?) it was airy and came with a side of their Cacio e pepe sauce. The cacio e pepe is not the traditional one that im used to but is thickened with butter cream so its a bit richer and creamier. It's much better than olive oil because it has more flavor. The Pinsa porchetta, is a small pizza with sliced porchetta on top. The crust was nicely done, it had a slight crunch and chew to it. The porchetta was delicious, subltle and delicate and enough to share. Highly recommend this. The Tonnarelli cacio e pepe was also good. I liked the tonnarelli pasta, its a bit thicker than spaghetti and a bit firmer than im used to but still very good. I wonder if thats what real al dente is supposed to be. The Caccio e pepe sauce was not the traditional type, with just pasta water, pepper, and pecorino romano; it was made with butter cream to stabelize it, so its not traditional but maybe more creamy and buttery than normal. Theres tons of parking in the plaza, the place is huge, theres seating both inside and outside on the patio up front. Service is warm, friendly and inviting.

Yelp
Had lunch here yesterday with my friend. Their patio was cute and our server Diego was so amazing. He had such an inviting vibe and we had such good hospitality. Everything he recommended was so good, down to the dessert. We picked our own entree though, maybe we should've let him recommend that also but it was still delish. I would definitely want to come back for dinner, since they have different menu options. We got the artichoke and fried rice ball for apps, mushroom ravioli and gnocchi for entrees and tiramisu for dessert. That tiramisu was like no other and sooo good.

Yelp
As an Italian who makes his own gravy from scratch, I am very picky about Italian restaurants and this is hands down the BEST I have ever been to. Matteo started by letting our group of 16 know that we could pick 3 to 5 appetizers and they would put them all on two trays. The lamb lollipops, oxtail meatballs and stuffed mushrooms were out of this world! Next was the pecorino pasta with pork cheek. It was unbelievable. This may be a new place, but they are as good as it gets with great service and even better food.

Yelp
Fun Fact: Open Oct 2025, concept is inspired by a Sicilian-born chef whose portfolio comes also from: Greystone Steakhouse and Osteria Panevino, as well as Vincenzo Cucina and Lounge in Little Italy! - Note: while I had an OK experience, I do believe some of the issues I had will work itself over time as this new place gets ramped up and kinks are worked on. Overall - beautiful place.. huge inside and lovely decorated patio. The menu is expansive - containing Italian sandwiches, apps, flatbreads, entrees, and of course Pasta. The complimentary bread is to DIE for.. the bread is the perfect amount of chewy and crispy in all the right areas - very unique. It comes with a CACIA E PEPE sauce that is very pairs well. The food has a great outlook but there are a few things I would change: Pasta Norma - the penne was al dente and had the perfect bite, however there were barely any eggplant pieces in the pasta, which made the pasta more like a pasta marinara. Having bigger size chunks of eggplant would be my preference, as that adds to the presentation but also flavor profile. Oxtail Meatball Sandwich - the oxtail meatballs were perfect.. had a nice flavor and crisp. However, the sandwich was enveloped with mozarella. I love cheese, but this was almost too much as it took away from the meatball flavors. Service - while our server was friendly, we had very slow service from beginning to end, despite there being only a few other parties at lunch time there. This is definitely a place worth trying and I am excited to come back and hope some of the above items are worked out overtime as they continue to expand.

Yelp
Finally found a decent Italian restaurant without having to travel all the way downtown where parking is nonexistent! This place has plenty of parking in a large lot. TONNARELLI CACIA E PEPE: add the shrimp protein, you won't regret it. It has the juiciest jumbo shrimps I've ever tasted. The cacia e Pepe sauce was extremely creamy and rich, it mixed perfectly for this pasta. This is the same dipping sauce they use for their starter bread (which interestingly tasted a bit too salty there but worked with the pasta) LINGUINE VONGOLE: we substituted the liguine with fettuccine since we like the thicker noodles. This dish had the perfect amount of refreshing yet savory flavors, another winner

Yelp
Romanella was beautiful! I'm so glad a more upscale establishment opened up in this neighborhood. Service was phenomenal and they brought out a bread basket before we even ordered. The oxtail meatballs in the radiatori pasta were so perfectly seasoned and fell apart in my mouth. The gnocchi was also excellent. They have a full service bar and were able to make a stellar Negroni. I'll have to come back to try more!

Yelp
Very busy at 5:30pm on a Saturday! Make sure you have a reservation during the weekend because every table was booked. Flower blossom appetizer was good - would recommend! Our party of three also had a mortadella and pistachio/ burrato pizza, pasta with oxtail meatball, and salmon. We had leftovers since that was more than enough food for the table. Cute ambiance!

Yelp
The Bay Park neighborhood has a new upscale Italian restaurant that debuted last month. Romanella Cucina Romana took over a corner space in the Clairemont Village that used to house a previous Italian eatery. Before that it was a brunch spot and before that it was a BBQ joint. Perhaps it's the recessed visibility from the roadside that has caused the turnover because there is plenty of parking in that corner of the plaza, and the seating capacity is very large. The interior decor was spruced up with murals of Roman art on the walls. I visited during a weekday lunch right when they opened for business. It may have surprised the workers as they probably did not expect any customers so early. I took my venue photos and then sat down at a two-top table on the outside patio. Most of the staff seemed to be participating in a business meeting in a private dining room. I had to flag them that I was looking for a waiter to assist with my order. A sidewalk sign near the entrance displayed the lunch menu. Sandwiches were listed on the top with the offerings for a two-course special shown on the bottom. I chose the Soup of the Day (minestrone) and the Spaghetti Meatballs for my two courses. A basket of complimentary bread was served while I waited for my items. The sliced pieces were soft, and a cup of marinara was provided for dipping. The soup was a good hearty portion while the pasta dish was on the small side. There were three homemade oxtail meatballs sprinkled with parmesan cheese on top. These were very flavorful as you normally get ground beef instead of the meat cut that was used. The bed of noodles could have been more generous. I wonder if the serving size was reduced because it was lunch and not dinner. Anyway, I enjoyed my meal enough to give a four star rating for Romanella Cucina Romana.

Yelp
Great venue. We were greeted by a gentleman who said "welcome to Italy". Then he brought us each a glass of Prosecco. He was very attentive and took great care of us. We were celebrating a birthday, so we each had a glass of Chianti, shared a salad and then each had an entrée. He brought us a piece of limoncello cake for our birthday dessert, on the house. Great experience highly recommend.

Yelp
My husband and I live in this neighborhood so we were very excited to try this restaurant when they opened. We've eaten and enjoyed food at this address for the last 2 restaurants that were in this space. We hope this one is here to stay. We came on Saturday after they had their grand opening (Thursday) for happy hour specials. Since we were arrived at 2, there weren't many people around. There seemed to be many Italian speaking staff who tried to help us but didn't know how to speak English. After a bit, there was another, James, who came to take care of us and he was very friendly and kept checking on us throughout our meal. He also offered to refill our bread basket which we appreciated. Our favorites: -Frittura mista (fried calamari and shrimp): this was delicious and done well. Not too salty like many other restaurants do and the shrimp was perfectly done--still juicy and plump. The squid was very tender. -Polpo alla griglia (grilled octopus): the octopus was soft, not the most tender I've had, but why hasn't anyone said anything the potatoes on this dish? On the side there are salted buttery garlic potatos with soft buttery garlic bits that are delicious! -Porchetta sandwich: I'm not sure if they've removed this item from the menu now but this was the one that had our expectations blown out of the water and ended up being our favorite item of the meal. It comes with a good amount of soft sliced pork that has some skin that gives is a fun chewy texture, crispy toasted bread is buttered with some decadent spread that gives it a nice fatty flavor. Honorable mention- oxtail meatballs: these were surprising because they're not made from ground meat, but is the whole meat so you get the beef texture when you eat it. I liked the tomato sauce it came in. Needs improvement- fettuccine all gricia: this one was way too salty that we couldn't eat it as it was. We took it home to add more to even the salt out. Hopefully this was a one off because everything else we had was seasoned/salted perfectly. Overall, our expectations were met and exceeded by this restaurant! The new decor and ambience is neat, very friendly and attentive service, and amazing food! I will love to come back with friends and family because everything was great.

Yelp
Our experience at Romanella was fantastic! We had the carpaccio and the charcuterie and both dishes were delicious!! We then had lobster and fettuccine which was the special of the day and it was quite a feast. Our only disappointment was we didn't have room for dessert which means we'll have to comeback again. Maira took care of us very well.

Yelp
I opened Yelp and saw a new place listed near my boyfriends house. We had a completely different plan for tonight but the reviews were too good to be true and we had to give it a shot. From the second we walked in we were stunned. The place is completely unexpected in a suburban strip mall. We were lucky to be able to get seated right away. The restaurant is bright and open. The staff were all delightful. The wait staff was perfect. Knowledgeable and helpful but not at all pushy. The menu is also perfect. It had a lot of great choices but wasn't overwhelming like some Italian restaurants can be. We ordered the oxtail meatballs and the Suppli to start with. Before our appetizers arrived, the waiter brought out fresh bread and cocio de Pepe sauce to dip it in. With the first bite we knew we were in for a treat. The bread was warm and crusty with a little bit of chew. The sauce took it to the next level with the hint of pepper that was there but not overwhelming. The oxtail meatballs were perfect. The meat was coarse ground and chewy. The suppli was chewy on the outside, the rice was perfect and the cheese wasn't overwhelming. I will probably dream about the marinara sauce - it had a touch of sweetness that was fresh and not overwhelming. My boyfriend got the pappardelle and was delighted with the noodles - they were cooked al dente and not overdone. I ordered the linguine vongole. The noodles were perfectly cooked, the clams tasted fresh and were tender and delightfully salty. The sauce was light and fresh and I could taste the fresh lemon. We were already stuffed but then the tiramisu came. That felt like a religious experience. I have no words to describe it - I'm just going to say you have to try it. I'm hesitant to share because I don't want everyone to know about our secret but at the same time I can't gatekeep something so amazing. We're home now with leftovers for tomorrow - and we're still talking about how perfect our dinner was. We will be back soon.

Yelp
Just returned to San Diego after 6 weeks in Buenos Aires and wanted to have something Italian for lunch. Spying this new place in my feed, I thought of giving it a try. I ordered a bottle of sparkling water with the Caesar salad followed by spaghetti in olive oil. The course started with fresh baked bread and a side of black pepper sauce. This bread combination was new to me, but it was very tasty. The salad followed, well plated and cleanly executed. Greens were fresh, topped with tasty shaved parmigiano-reggiano and small/delicate croutons, tossed in a light but flavorful Caesar sauce. Following that was spaghetti cooked al dente, served in a well paired olive oil combined with finely diced garlic and hint of pepper flake(not spicy by any measure) ; surprisingly there was no heat or fire to the garlic, it was mild and sweet. Per my request, the server added about a spoon and a half of grated parmigiano, hitting the top for a bit of salt. I asked for a second basket of their fresh bread to sop up the remaining olive oil left after the pasta was gone; I normally resist garlic , but this was truly delicious. The course ended with a slice of lemoncello cake, excellently chilled. The cream was as smooth as gelato, rich and firm on the lemon sponge cake. I took a shot of espresso and called it the end of lunch. My thanks to James for the recommendations and excellent service. I plan to return very soon to try dinner.

Amazing.. I almost have no words. Food was literally mouth watering, so delicious and the vibe and personality of the restaurant is so kind and welcoming. Miguel made my pasta, let me say.. AMAZING. James the owner, was so sweet, made my margarita delicious.

Yelp
A Hidden Gem - Cozy, Classy, and Delicious! Romanella has quickly become one of my favorite spots in town. Whether you're stopping in for their amazing happy hour or settling in for a relaxed dinner, this place delivers on all fronts. The wine selection is excellent--thoughtfully curated with plenty of Italian and international options. The staff are super helpful with recommendations, especially if you're pairing with one of their delicious appetizers (the burrata and arancini are musts). The atmosphere is exactly what you want from a neighborhood Italian spot: warm, cozy, and welcoming, with just the right touch of elegance. Service is consistently attentive and friendly without being overbearing--just really genuine hospitality that makes you want to come back. Highly recommend for a casual date night, after-work drinks, or a chill evening with friends. It's one of those places where you feel like a regular from the first visit.

Yelp
A great find in my neighborhood: Bay Park. Warm lights, the aroma of the espresso, and the sound of soft Italian music created an atmosphere that felt both elegant and cozy -- like being invited into a family home in Rome. We started with the Stuffed Zucchini Blossom and Oxtail Meatballs: great flavors! The lasagna vegetariana was a standout: light, delicious and with a great sauce. We finished our dinner with a Maritozzo, sweet and fluffy.

Yelp
I had one of the BEST dining experiences I've ever had in San Diego last night at Romanella Cucina Romana. From the moment we sat down, everything felt authentic, welcoming, and completely transportive--like we were tucked away at a cozy Roman trattoria. Service: Our server, Mateo, was incredible. Attentive, knowledgeable, warm, and genuinely caring. He guided us through each course without ever rushing us. My friend and I ate at our own pace, enjoyed long conversations, and they let us savor every moment. The hospitality here truly feels like home. Ambiance: We sat on their charming patio next to a warm heater, and it created the perfect intimate vibe for a slow, delicious evening. Cozy, comfortable, and full of those little touches that make you want to stay for hours. Food: Every single dish was outstanding--some of the best I've had in San Diego. First course: A delicious spread of cold cuts, bruschetta, and the star of the plate--supplì (a perfectly breaded ball filled with melting mozzarella and sauce). Absolute heaven. Pasta: The mushroom ravioli was rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced. Then we had a mussel pasta that was light yet full of flavor--fresh, bright, and so satisfying. Entrée: Their house special bone-in ribeye steak was unreal. Smothered in a luscious creamy mushroom sauce, served with mashed potatoes and broccolini. Truly melt-in-your-mouth perfection. Dessert: We finished with limoncello and a lemon cake that was the perfect refreshing ending. By the time we left, both my stomach and my heart felt full. I cannot wait to come back--this place is an absolute gem. Highly recommend Romanella Cucina Romana to anyone looking for authentic Italian food, amazing service, and a cozy, special night out.

Food: The appetizers (calamari and Ox tail meatballs) were good. As for the food, it was good. The filet mignon was just a bit on the salty side but was good. Service: Unfortunately, our server (Roberto) was not very attentive and we had to remind him that we were ready to order multiple times. He also forgot to bring my father-in-laws beer and also had to remind him. Im guessing he may be new but it still had a negative impact on our overall experience which was a birthday lunch for my wife. Ambiance: The ambiance was nice and reminded us a bit of Italy with the murals and decor.

Yelp
Good to see this new place doing so well! I live in Clairemont and have seen 2 previous restaurants at this place fail- so I've eaten here 4 times in the last few weeks, inviting friends each time. The food is delicious and filling- generous portions easily shared with others. The service is excellent - servers are attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Alan made excellent suggestions for food and beverages. The renovation of the space has created a bright, welcoming space - and a nicer patio. Overall- a much more inviting atmosphere than previous

Yelp
We were excited to try the new Italian spot in our neighborhood. It has adorable decor esp during the holidays. The service was impeccable! Sophia was just lovely, warm, attentive, and quick. We were asked several times by other staff if we needed anything else, including James who we enjoyed a quick chat with! We enjoyed all of our dishes especially the zucchini blossoms and clam vongole. Bonus- Kids meal came with gelato!

Yelp
Went with family for a birthday dinner that we booked through open table. Really nice interior and found on the table a nice handwritten birthday card with a $25 off next visit to restaurant inside. Very nice. Got the cheese wheel pasta and lemon cake dessert. Fantastic, bread service with preconino cheese was delicious. Very reasonably priced. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Everything we got was really yummy. Both appetizer was light and fresh. The carpaccio was pretty citrusy but I'm not the biggest fan of citrus in my food so if you are like me, maybe you can try a different appetizer. Pasta was cooked perfectly and I love the salmon with mashed potato. Pretty interesting to incorporate veggies in the mashed potatoes and I'm a fan. Salmon was so moist and tender and pesto sauce went perfectly with it. Our server was Roberto, he was really friendly and provided great service. Overall was a really good experience

Yelp
The food and service was very good! Diego is the man! The restaurant is also pretty! Me and my fiance had the fettuccine with guanciale, and oxtail meatball rigatoni and both were delicious!

Yelp
Truly Italian in every sense of the word from the decor to the inviting atmosphere. My friend and I stopped by to check out the happy hour fare she read about... we were overwhelmed, in a great way! The restaurant was absolutely "Italy in Bay Park!" The Food was excellent, cocktails were fantastic, and the service was impeccable. The owner, James, is a wonderful host, fun and interesting! The waitstaff was attentive to our every desire. We highly recommend making this lovely slice of Italy a weekly habit!!

Yelp
We were so curious to try this new spot out as we loved the previous one. The renovations are beautiful! They really did a great job with the space. We tried squash blossoms, pizza, salmon and the gnocchi. All the dishes were great! I am eager to go back and try more of their dishes. Seems like a great new spot in the center!

Yelp
We had a celebratory dinner tonight with nine people at Romanella and everything was above and beyond! The ambience is beautiful, the service is spectacular and the food was amazing!! My whole family agreed this is our new place to have family gatherings. We had a picky bunch including gluten free eaters and vegetarians and everyone loved everything!

Yelp
Service was good, server-- Stella, was attentive. Found a salad fork that had dried food stuck to it. They replaced it. I think they could tell I was not impressed as they dropped off a free appetizer card at the end of the meal. They also asked me to give them a 5 star review on Yelp. Someone (maybe the manager) came by and asked us how it was. I admit I did not address my opinion honestly in the moment as I did not really want a confrontation. Ordered bruschetta, cacio e pepe, and caesar salad. Bruschetta had soft bread instead of toasted and too many tomatoes which were a bit flavorless. The cacio e pepe needed salt. They also offer complimentary bread with cacio e pepe sauce at the beginning. My companion asked for vinaigrette and oil after, which was a much better companion to the bread. The place has good ambience and setting, staff is polite and attentive. The place was clean as well.

Yelp
Excellent service. Knowledgeable of the menu and helpful in making decisions. Food portions were large! Accommodating to a larger group with small children as well. Great first experience and will be back! Thank you!

Yelp
I was thinking what kind of restaurant would be in a small shopping center and not be a hole in wall but this was a delight!! They were attentive. The food was amazing. At least ours were and I was just overall surprised. Think we're gonna change our reservations next week from one restaurant to this restaurant to celebrate my girl's birthdays!

Yelp
An absolute must-try in San Diego! Romannella is hands down one of the best dining experiences I've ever had in my entire life. From start to finish, everything was perfection. We started off with the Aperol Spritz and the Garden Cocktail--both were to die for and set the perfect tone for the night. The Burrata Caprese and Caesar salad were so fresh and flavorful, and then came the star of the show: the Margherita pizza and the cheese pasta carbonara. The carbonara literally melted in my mouth--rich, creamy, and unforgettable. Every bite, every sip, every detail was absolute heaven. The ambiance, the presentation, the service--everything was on point. If you're in San Diego, do yourself a favor and eat here. Truly, the best meal I've ever had in my life!

Yelp
I went to Romanella Cucina Romana for the first time last Sunday during their happy hour (2-5pm daily). The patio was delightful to sit in and we had a lovely sunset to accompany it. The inside was also really nice when I peeked my head in later. We decided to go for HH as the HH menu is insanely good (think $10 full size pastas and $7 wine and cocktails!) My spritz was super good and I thought the house white wine was fine but my boyfriend didn't love it. We ordered the Suppli appetizer which reminded me of arancini, and it was pretty good! They also brought us warm crusty bread with a dipping sauce that blew our minds (perhaps like a light gorgonzola black pepper cream sauce?) and honestly I would have gladly ate 2 baskets of that for an appetizer. I ordered the Radiatori al Sugo pasta from the HH menu which came with oxtail meatballs. I thought it was very good and the portion was huge! My boyfriend sprung for the Pecorino Cheese Wheel pasta which was a fun presentation to watch. The guanciale in the pasta was great, but the pasta itself was just good. I thought it could have used a little more salt and was expecting more flavor from the pecorino. At $35 ($MP) it was not worth the price in our opinion but it was fun to try regardless. I had included that we were celebrating a birthday when I made the reservation the they graciously gave us a house-made limoncello cake along with two limoncello drinks for dessert which were both very good. All in all, we had a lovely time and the ambiance is awesome! If you're looking for a new happy hour (they've only been open 5 weeks!) this is an awesome place to try since you can't beat the prices for the quality and quantity of food you receive. We'll be back!

Yelp
The restaurant is visually stunning , like being transported to an Italian town. Menu offers a wide variety of Italian favorites. The pasta was exquisite, a wonderful surprise was an ox tail meatball pasta which I never had before , even the combo beef & pork was a delight . But as always none of these would matter if the service was questionable;but not in this case, our server James was the most charming & efficient. We were discussing our previous trip to Rome when he mentioned he's originally from fabled Napoli ! A really sweet & young man whose charm flows freely with grace & made our culinary experience quite outstanding. It's people like him who adds flavor to the dining pleasure. I strongly recommend this joint not only to the locals but transients who happen to be in the area, food, wine & service at its best !

Yelp
We had an amazing dinner at Romanella last night to celebrate our anniversary. Diego was our server and all of his recommendations were spot on. It was our first time here but we will definitely be returning. We had the artichokes and zucchini blossoms to start, then we had the penne alla Norma and pappardelle for our mains. To end, we had the tiramisu and lava cake. The bread with the cacia e Pepe sauce at the beginning was to die for and I really like how they are different than other Italian spots that serve it with marinara. Everything was delicious and I highly recommend trying them out. I hope they can keep this level of service and food quality up so we can continue to support and enjoy this beautiful restaurant!

Yelp
The owner was so friendly, so cute, and so helpful and we will definitely be back! The decor is very cute and the food was delicious

Yelp
We had an exceptional dining experience at Romanella from start to finish. For an appetizer, we ordered the Fiori di Zucca--zucchini blossoms delicately stuffed with ricotta and served over a luscious fig compote. The combination was beautifully balanced and absolutely delicious. For the entrée, the Pappardelle Bolognese was outstanding. The beef and pork ragu, slowly braised to perfection, had incredible depth of flavor and paired wonderfully with the fresh, tender pasta. The ambience at Romanella is warm, inviting, and thoughtfully designed, making the entire meal feel special. The service was also top-tier. Our server, Diego, who we later learned is one of the owners, was fabulous--attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely personable. His passion for the restaurant truly elevated our experience. If you haven't had the chance to try Romanella yet, we highly recommend it! It's a true gem.

Yelp
Dropped in to Romanella for a quick bite and cocktail. The bar service was great. Love the atmosphere and I was able to watch NFL. Food and drink were very good. Pretty nice day!
