I recently had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Etoile in the picturesque Val-de-Charmey, and it was an experience I won't soon forget. From the moment I walked in, the warmth of the wooden interior invited a sense of comfort and luxury. The hotel's design perfectly complements the breathtaking mountain scenery visible from nearly every window, offering a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.A short, pleasant walk away is a spa that promises relaxation and rejuvenation - a must-visit for anyone staying here. The highlight of my stay, however, was the culinary experience. The hotel's restaurant serves haute cuisine that tantalizes the taste buds with every bite, especially their loup de mer, which was cooked to perfection.Above all, the service at Hotel Etoile was impeccable. The staff went above and beyond to ensure my stay was comfortable, making me feel welcome and well-cared for throughout my visit.I highly recommend Hotel Etoile to anyone looking for a luxurious getaway in a stunning natural setting. Whether it's for the food, the views, or the overall ambiance, this hotel is sure to exceed your expectations.

We walked into the restaurant @7pm following the Désalpes at Charmey (plenty of empty tables) and were warmly greeted. |However, as the evening progressed, it was marred by a poor table service, constant flies around our food on the table, and incomplete food order, and a male waiter - who we felt had a very unpleasant & inappropriate attitude. |When he asked for feedback, he then proceeded to argue...|Unacceptable.

Very small room with an even smaller bathroom to match. The smallest shower we’ve ever been in. Towels were old and frayed. We arrived at the breakfast, which was very sparse to begin with, with most of the bread, and cheese platters empty, the fruit old. While the hotel website makes the place looks great, it is anything but. We changed Hotels after only one night. Very disappointed.

OK. Lots of old-world charm and breakfast ok. This hotel is situated on a main road and the traffic starts at 05.00. Therefore, if rest and relaxation is important guests need to sleep with the windows closed and perhaps need to resort to earplugs. The bathroom was very small. The restaurant is closed Monday/Tuesday but open for breakfast. If you arrive, for example Sunday afternoon you find your key placed by the backdoor and are left to your own devices. If you have a problem, you can however call an answering machine. We paid a 4 star price for a 2 star hotel.

We stayed at the hotel and had a dinner in October 2021. We decided to come and stay in this hotel, because we had a lunch last year and it was exceptionally good. However, on both times, we had unpleasant experiences with staffs. Last year, we were billed incorrect amount and had to explain to correct it. This year, we used a coupon for the dinner and were told it cannot be done. Everything was ensured and OKed (for all the benefits comes with the coupon) at the time of check in, but somehow, we were complained by the waiter at the restaurant that it cannot be done. In the end, the waiter's claim was not true and we did not have any issues with the coupon nor payment. However, it was not pleasant and my hope to have a fun birthday dinner was not realised.

It’s a cute little hotel in the centre of the village. It is true that the rooms are renovated. The room was pretty spacious. We had one with two joined single beds, decent wardrobe, a TV set, minibar, shower, an arm chair and two tables. There were toiletries, so don’t worry if you forgot a shampoo. The design is simple, but nice. However, the building is located on the central road, so the noise level is quite high. Although it wasn’t too noisy at night. Also the kitchen smelled quite strongly in the room. They have a bistro and a gastronomic restaurants in the building. Both were very busy (it was Easter weekend) and the food was great. We chose this hotel as it was cheaper than the bigger ones in the area but still located well for reaching out to the nearest sightseeing locations, like Chateau de Gruyère and the main cheese place or Maison Cailler. It’s located a hundred meters away from les bains too. The area also has good hiking routes nearby, suitable either for easy promenade or for proper hiking.

Wonderful old building with modern rooms, amazing dinner, great breakfast. They gave us a great rate when we showed up without reservation. There were locals at dinner and domestic Swiss travelers were staying there, so that's a good sign. It's a short drive up from the Cailler chocolate factory and Gruyeres, and there are a lot of walking trails nearby -- some right there in town. The town itself was beautiful, with a view of the mountains and old buildings loaded with charm. ||We had a great suite on the 2nd floor (third floor in American terms), one bedroom for the kids and one for parents, with a separate bathroom. Everything was done so nicely -- like a piece of slate fitted into a wooden rack where they put the bathroom cups. There are two places to eat, the bistro -- which is really a restaurant, and the more formal restaurant. We had dinner at the bistro, and the food was wonderful. Would highly recommend this place!

Don't eat or drink at the restaurant. Their bar client is very bothering. My husband and I stopped eating and left because of a sexist and racist drunk at the bar. Definetely we won't come back. We are sorry for the employees.
