"Rombauer Vineyards, known for its heavily oaked and buttery chardonnay, has been sold to E. & J. Gallo Winery. The sale includes the brand, three winery and production facilities, and over 700 acres of vineyards in Napa, Sonoma, and Amador counties." - Lauren Saria

California’s Sierra Foothills AVA Remains a Land of Opportunity for Winemakers - Eater SF

"Bob Knebel, the president of Rombauer, says the foothills have always been a home-away-from-home for the Napa-based winery. The major label’s wines, like their jammy zinfandels and oaky chardonnays, are as successful as a California wine gets, found on both restaurant wine lists across the state and Safeway shelves." - Paolo Bicchieri

We went for the self-paced tasting, which included at least five selections. Once you finished your first glass, you could go over to the counter to get the next one. I was impressed by their Zinfandel, it was really jammy! Great atmosphere with beautiful natural, hilly views. We also checked out their wine cave, which was fun. After our tasting, we picked up a bottle of their 2022 Proprietor Selection Zinfandel, which is only available at the winery. Loved the blackberry, vanilla, and spice flavors!

We had an absolutely unforgettable experience at Rombauer Vineyards. From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the stunning views and peaceful atmosphere. But what truly made our visit exceptional was the outstanding service we received from Jesus. He was incredibly knowledgeable, warm, and made us feel so welcome throughout the entire tasting. The wine itself was simply phenomenal — every single glass was a delight, rich in flavor and beautifully balanced. You can truly taste the passion and dedication that goes into each bottle. The setting, combined with the quality of the wine and the amazing service, made for a one-of-a-kind experience that we’ll never forget. We will most definitely be coming back — this was easily one of the highlights of our entire trip!

We had an incredible time at Rombauer during our trip this summer. The views and atmosphere are unmatched, and we loved the wines we tried. The Sauvignon Blanc was outstanding. Jesus was knowledgeable and personable; he made our experience amazing. We wish we would have spent more time at Rombauer and less time down at the more posh spots in the valley! I could not recommend Rombauer more highly.

Our flight was hosted by Kevin. How lucky we were to get him! It was our first event on our honeymoon trip in America and he made it so special. I will always remember the experience with a smile, he treated us so nicely. He knows his stuff and loves to talk about it. It was so interesting to listen, so many stories. Answered all our questions. He gave us all kinds of wines to taste and they were all so different and all delicious. So happy we chose Rombauer Vineyards. The place has a great view, great staff, amazing wine and still is afordable for all people. All compliments to delicious wine and Kevin!

Google
Wonderful wines at a classic winery. Friendly staff makes it extra special (thank you Jesus!). Lovely tasting room that overlooks valley and plenty of outdoor seating and pathways to explore. $25 per person tasting. Super reasonable. Highly recommend if you are in the area. Zins are top notch!! Nice touches: Free valet parking, free bottles of water, and quite tasty bread sticks that are local.

Google
My experience at Rombauer was exactly what I needed in Napa Valley. Such beautiful views of the valley high up on the hill tops, to get there the drive is very scenic. I visited in February, weather was perfect at 60 degrees and as the sun set, it was just enough chill to wear a light jacket. You heard all the wildlife around you sitting in the luscious garden (yes, the flowers were bloomed in February!!) The value of the tasting was very fair, I'm so glad I came here instead of other winerys that prob would rob me for the views I had. The wine was fantastic, I enjoyed the Zinfandels and Chardonney. It truly felt that you were in a hill top vineyard in France, quiet and beautiful. Shoutout to Dinero , David & Bob, best staff! Also - bring your own picnic!

We had an excellent tasting with Kevin Ramirez. Our table was perfectly situated and super comfortable for our special guests from out of town who happen to be Rombauer fans from Florida. Thank you again Kevin for an incredible experience and the wine to take home.

Google
What a beautiful property and delicious wine selection. We did the cellar tour with Phillip and he was such an informative, funny and charismatic somm and guide. We tasted some decadent Pinot noirs, full bodied Zinn and my fave the sauv blanc. His wine puns and hospitality were a great way to start the day. We ordered some great bottles and can’t wait to savor them in New York. Special thanks to Stephen Lampl for coordinating this amazing experience which was the highlight of our weekend in Napa.

Yelp
Rombauer is a true testament to all things Napa Valley. Those bold and buttery Chardonnays are an absolute staple around these parts. But what I love about Rombauer is that although they're known for their Chards, they offer soooo much more. A visit to their tasting room could quite literally blow you away if you've never been here before. First and foremost, the scenery is unparalleled. Their tasting room is perched up high on a hill, revealing all of the beauty that Napa Valley has to offer. You've got the vineyards and those lush green rolling hills beneath you. A seat on the deck is perfect spot to relax here in my opinion. You've got the casual environment plus the majestic views right in the forefront. What I also adore about Rombauer is that as big as their name is, they still have a very casual and welcoming feel to their tasting room. I'm not opposed to dropping some serious dough in Napa Valley (it's inevitable at this point). However, it's nice to know that there are still some affordable, casual, and unpretentious places to relax in this area. I love that I can drop by and enjoy a Frosé or a glass of their delicious Sauvignon Blanc on the deck or in the garden. Speaking of the garden; it is glorious! I love taking a stroll through their gardens whilst casually sipping on the goods. They have seated tastings, cave tours, and self paced tastings (which I really enjoy). You can also take a peak inside of their wine cave which is really neat. Parking is valet only and the gentlemen who run the valet are AWESOME! I love chatting with them when I visit. The staff is also super friendly and helpful. Last but certainly not least, the WINE! Ironically, their Sauv Blanc is my favorite wine! But their Chards are definitely top notch. As someone who wasn't previously a fan of buttery Chards, Rombauer turned me into a believer over the years. They are so tasty, especially when paired right. Their Zinfandel is another favorite of mine. When the sun is blazing and I need to cool down, a Frosé on the deck absolutely HITS! It has become my new favorite summer excursion. Love me a Frosé with a view! Rombauer is a Napa staple for a reason. I hope they never change.

Yelp
Many may never know the effort it takes for luxury ground transportation, and wineries to come together to help create memories to last a lifetime !!! Today, Rombauer hit it out of the park !!! Staff was incredibly accommodating and welcoming and as you can see the set up ... they had for my bride to be and her entourage , will no doubt be remembered by the bride for many years to come if not a lifetime ! Shout out to Rombauer Vineyards and Apex limousine for doing it well !!!

Yelp
This was my first wine tasting experience and I could not be more happy about it! The location is beautiful, staff is very friendly, and big fan of the price for really good quality service + wine (in my own first time biased opinion) I sat in the garden section, and because it was for my birthday, they gave me a cute Chardonnay balloon!
google avatar

Yelp
We had such an amazing experience! Celebrated late mother's day here and the views were incredible. The staff are courteous, we even got breadsticks and aluminum water bottles with our wine. We came late in the day and they were still very accommodating.

Yelp
We loved our tasting at Rombauer Vineyards! The staff were fantastic- Everyone remembers your name from the moment that you walk in. We loved every wine that we tasted and even bought a couple bottles to bring home. We would definitely come back here!

Yelp
Omg. I absolutely love Rombauer! My mom and i heard about this winery from our friend Kim who is a member there and so we just had to try it. We went for my 21st birthday and it was so beautiful! I love their property, price and hospitality! Great service and very kind staff. They even let us peek into the wine cave. Another thing i love about Rombauer is that they are dog friendly and have great merchandise inside their store, which includes dog toys! Will definitely be making a trip to their Plymouth location soon to try it out

Yelp
Although we enjoyed their wines immensely, this review is for the picnic experience at Rombauer. Six months before our trip to Napa, I called and reserved an outside table for the 5 of us. As long as you buy their wine, you can use the picnic tables. It's technically limited to 2 hours but we spent about $300 on wine so they didn't mind us overstaying. At entrance, we checked in with the host and he gave us a map of the property and directed us to our picnic table//area. Covered by a variety of trees, including oak and maple and overlooking the valley and St Helena, I challenge you to find a more picturesque picnic area that serves world class wines. ( see photos) We went in early December. The weather was a perfect crispy 55F and the trees were alit in autumn colors. You do take your chances with an outside table if it's stormy. But they did provide a big umbrella which came in handy to shield us from the sun. Knowing that they didn't sell food there, we went to Sunshine Food just 5 minutes away in St. Helena and got a plethora of picnic foods ( see photos) They do not serve wine to you so you have to walk up to the main house where you can purchase wines by the glass or bottle and bring it back to your table . I didn't mind the trips to get wine because I got to walk through their beautiful garden each time. Parking was easy right at the front of the winery. The staff was very friendly and professional. Overall, it was a fantastic Napa experience. We will definitely be back! Happy Traveling!!

Yelp
Rombauer Winery, Calistoga, CA - March 20, 2025 We're members here and have enjoyed their wines for many years. We made a 2 pm appointment for indoor tasting on a Thursday. Member tasting is free and non-members is $25 per person. We were the only ones tasting indoors. It was such a beautiful day that everyone else was outdoors, but we were happy to be indoors. They have recently removed the indoor L-shaped bar and put in several tables. It was very nice when we were there, but I can imagine the space gets pretty loud if all the tables were full. They were very kind to let us bring in our 5 month old spaniel that rested at our feet. Our Server's name was Ethan. He recently moved to Napa from Riverside about a month ago. He was a wealth of knowledge when it came to the Rombauer wines we were tasting, as well as wine and the wine industry in general. We tasted a Sauv. Blanc, a couple Chardonnays, a couple cabs., the Santa Lucia Pinot Noir, and the California Zin. All delicious. We got the Gary's Pinot Noir, a couple Chardonnays, and the California Zin. Ethan gave us some suggestions about other wineries to try.

Yelp
I spent my birthday at Rombauer winery which was Fantastic! The grounds were beautiful and the staff Top notch. This is definitely one for the books. They give you free wine and breadsticks to go with the wine flight. Big shoutout to Ethan,Kevin, Vincent, Deniro and Especially David for treating us so well! If I'm back to this area I will definitely support this Winery also since I'll need to restock my purchases ;)

Yelp
A beautiful hidden gem in Saint Helena. The tasting room is at the top of the hill overlooking the vineyards, and the view is magnificent to say the least! They offer guided and self-paced tastings ranging in price from $25 - $150. I love big, bold red wines, but at Rombauer, I finally found a deliciously crisp and well balanced Chardonnay that was pleasing to the palate!

Yelp
I've been to many wineries in Napa but I recently made my first trip to St. Helena to visit Rombauer Vineyards. I have to say, this place completely exceeded my expectations! An absolute gem. From the moment we arrived, everything was lovely. Complimentary valet parking, friendly and welcoming staff, private picnic tables with beautiful views, and a relaxed/inviting atmosphere. It's also kid and dog friendly, which made it perfect for our whole family. This might just be my new favorite and go-to spot! Thank you to everyone at Rombauer Vineyards for making our experience so enjoyable. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Always a pleasure to visit Rombauer with its beautiful views and delicious wine. The way they've placed tables on their hillside makes your group feel special and the garden is gorgeous! Great winery to take visitors to the North Bay.

Yelp
Reservation is needed to secure a picnic table spot in this vineyard but you have to buy a bottle or glass of wine. Outside food is permitted as there are no on-site food sales available. We have the Jones place picnic area, which has beautiful, stunning views overlooking vineyards. This beautiful place is a must-visit for nature lovers.
google avatar

Elaine R.

Yelp
I kind of want to keep this amazing place to myself but had to share. BEST VIEWS IN NAPA with Amazing Wines!!! Reserved the picnic area on a hot day 10-1pm is ideal as mostly still shaded...til around 12:30 The beautiful maintained picnic with a large umbrella areas are fairly separated for privacy and surrounded by lush greenery. Bring your own picnic/food and then grab wine by the bottle or glass. Enjoy your table fit for 8ppl. We has 6 adults plus two kids lots of room to enjoy. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Valet to hosts. Very clean a garbage can available at the site and beautiful gardens and eclectic artistic life size cows structures. Free aluminum bottled water where you get the wines. Dog and family friendly. Wines faves are their award winning carneros Chardonnay and yummy zins my fave is El Dorado.

Yelp
We visited Napa back in September and I'm finally getting around to reviewing all the wineries we visited. We visited Rombauer and did their Seated Outdoor Tasting. It was such a great value- only $25 for 6 tastings + 2 additional ones our host Joe brought out. By far the cheapest wine tasting we encountered in Napa. The property had recently changed ownership and we had thought Joe had been working there for years and stayed with the sale. Nope, he had only been there a couple of months! He was so knowledgeable, so you would never have guessed it. He was hosting a few tables at one time, but always checked in and made sure we had wine in our glass and water. He told us a little bit about the property and invited us to stay after our tasting to get a wine by the glass. This was one of the louder winery tastings we had during our trip due to it being busy during our tasting (lots of outdoor tastings at the time because the weather was great). Definitely a fun little tasting to add to your Napa trip.
google avatar

Justine J.

Yelp
Another staple if you're in the Napa Valley/St. Helena. Such a chill vibe & beautiful views. Walk ins are accepted which can be tough when a lot of wineries are appointment only. The Zinfandel is their most popular & was SO delicious - it took me by surprise as I'm not a Zinfandel girl. Walking the property is self guided, including their cave! Really awesome that a guide was not needed. 10/10 recommend!

Yelp
Visited Rombauer for the first time and had the pleasure of sitting in the beautiful Secret Garden. We were served by Jesus, who was absolutely fantastic--knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely enjoyable to chat with. His passion for the wines really enhanced our experience. If there's a way to request him next time, we definitely will--his energy was amazing. 10/10 experience!

Yelp
My review is more about the workings of the wine club than the wine. I love Rombauer wines and have been drinking them for many years. I used to live in the Napa area and recently moved back east to my home. I joined the wine club to get some of my favorite Zin and have been happy with the wine, as always. The wine is terrific and I would tell anyone who is in the Napa/St. Helena area to check out their wines as they are yummy. The wine club is a wonderful way to get wines if you are out of the CA area, but I hate when I get an offer for a sale and really it is only a partial sale. The wine club discount is always considered part of the sale. I chatted with whoever answered their wine club number and they were not sympathetic and instead a bit cheeky. They are not typically customer centric and expect you should be honored to buy their wines. I enjoy their wines, but have many opportunities to get other equally delicious wines without the attitude. I just wanted to note the lack of customer consideration. I have been to the vineyard and had many wonderful tasting experiences. The wine is always delicious, the vineyard is a lovely place for a tasting, but in the end it is just wine and product.

Yelp
Rombauer was one of my favorite winery experiences in Napa Valley. We arrived, and they do insist on valleting your car. From there we approached the host stand for our garden reservation. The host quickly took us to a large picnic table with the most stunning views that said "reserved" for us! I loved the touch of having our name on the table. We did not pay for a formal tasting and were direct to order at the 'Wines By The Glass' counter. You could order a self-guided tasting flight at the counter if you choose. We decided on two half bottles to share - their famous Chardonnay and their Cabernet Sauvignon. Upon first smell and sip it was easy to see why Rombauer is so famous for their delicious Chardonnay - and I'm not typically a Chardonnay person! They also allow you to bring your own food "picnic" style, so we unloaded our cooler of cheese, crackers and waters to enjoy with our Rombauer wines. Their garden is stunning. I love the meadering path with tables nicely spaced out which made the seating feel luxurious and private. The sculptures and flowers throughout the garden created a paradisal atmosphere that was so much fun to explore. Inside, their facility were the restrooms, which were clean and easily accessible, and all of the people who paid for the formal tastings. At the bottom of the garden is the entrance to their caves which are included in their cave tasting! We did not purchase the cave tasting - but it seems like a very interesting and fun experience!

Yelp
Great service, views, and tasting menu! Our server was knowledgeable and helpful when it came to deciding which wines to purchase. The sauvignon blanc was most popular amongst our group we each bought one!
google avatar

Agnes C.

Yelp
We had a 10 am tasting outdoors. It was a beautiful day and we had great views. The wines we tasted were amazing and our host gave us some tastings beyond what was listed for the flight. We purchased 4 bottles of wine. After our tasting we explored the grounds and found beautiful views of the winery. A big plus is the wine tasting price of $25 per person and they waive 1 tasting fee if you buy 3 bottles.
google avatar

Earlene C.

Yelp
Gorgeous views and delectable, award winning wine to match! A must visit winery if you're making a list. Even if you don't have reservations for a tasting, purchase a bottle or wine by the glass and find a place to sit & relax. There is a lovely walking path that has picnic tables where you can enjoy your wine. Shout out to all the staff at Rombauer from the valet gentlemen to the various hosts working around the property. Everyone was so friendly and kind. We came toward the end of the day and they were still at the top of their game and so welcoming. Thank you!
google avatar

Yelp
This is the only winery in Napa with the most affordable tasting charges - $25 pp , kid friendly, dog friendly, picnics are welcome, flexible options - tasting/ wine by glass/ get a bottle, beautiful grounds & view, impeccable service.. Sign me up! - I would encourage online reservation ahead of visiting. - Bombauer is famous for their Chardonnay. - For $25, you get five samples to taste. - Customer service was top notch and very friendly staff. We did the self guided tasting, seated in outdoor garden. There is a lovely walking path through their garden for stroll and view of the valley is magnificient. We had a great time, including our toddler who loved exploring the gardens.
google avatar

Patricia C.

Yelp
The best thing to do here is get a glass and walk around on your own or reserved a picnic space. Theres very little parking so there is complimentary valet. They definitely can be nicer - but the view is great! I wish I had better things to say about the service but it was hit or miss and my first 3 mins there with the valet left a bad taste in my mouth. Everyone else was fine, just not particularly hospitable. Just there to get the job done.

Yelp
Me and fiancé had an amazing experience at Rombauer on 11/29/24. First off, the ambiance and view were gorgeous! The fall colors and lighting were a dream photo op! Second, when we arrived we hadn't made a reservation but my the grace of GOD someone's canceled a hosted tasting allowing me and my fiancé to enjoy a memorable experience. Lastly, our tasting was great! Phillip was our host and he was so friendly, informative and knowledgeable. Also we he knows how to make you feel comfortable and knows how to cater to a crowd. We tasted great wines and the breadsticks....THE BREADSTICKS!!! Absolutely amazing. Overall 10/10 experience and will definitely be back to see more of the property.

Yelp
Since it's been a decade, I figured it was time to update my review. I recently visited Rombauer and was excited to try some of the chardonnays I love from this vineyard. I booked a garden tasting that would allow for self-service at the tasting bar. That way I could wander around the gardens as I sipped wine. When I arrived, I was told there was room for me in the tasting room and I could do a hosted tasting instead. It was a little chilly of a morning, so I opted to stand at the tasting bar. It's what I had done years ago when I came here with my dog and was able to just walk in, so it seemed like a good idea. It really didn't end up being fun. My host was training someone new. His trainee was much more personable than he was. For example, I noticed he asked the same questions to people as they arrived at the venue. (i.e., Where are you visiting from?) and then would provide the same explanations as to where the grapes were grown for each wine while holding a trusty map. (i.e., Monterey is known for sea otters and the famous aquarium). I guess that works well for most people, but I'm from California. And I told him and his trainee that. So, while I might be in Indiana at the moment, it was so odd to hear him try to teach me about what Monterey (where some of the grapes are grown) is known for. Perhaps he was trying to get his trainee to learn the script, but it felt forced and uncomfortable as he didn't adjust based on what he had learned about his guests. His jokes also didn't land. I watched him tell three different parties that that the water in front of them was a "2024 Napa Water." Not one laughed or seemed to get what he was saying. The Rombauer wines seemed to have shifted a lot in the last 10 years. The Chardonnay wasn't as buttery as I remember. But maybe that's because the wine maker is Australian. On the flip side, the Sauvignon Blanc is excellent. You no longer get to keep your tasting glass either. However, prices have not gone up. It's $25 for a hosted tasting. So, perhaps that factors into the quality and lack of personalization of the experience.

Yelp
Visited with my college friends for a girls weekend and had an amazing time! Was our first tasting of the trip and they set a high standard. We arrived to a complimentary valet and friendly service. They already had blankets for us and a heater at our table for the overcast morning. The views from the tasting terrace were absolutely stunning. We enjoyed Ryan and Jose's knowledge about the wines being served. They even threw in a couple extra tastings to our appointment. We walked some of the grounds after to take in the amazing panoramic views. This tasting is also an absolute steal for the price. I highly recommend and would 1000% come back!

Yelp
Great wnery to visit. We did the wine tasting which was a great value! Many families enjoying a picnic with a bottle of wine. Make sure to schedule your visit ahead of time since table space does fill up! I will be back!

Yelp
Nathalia was amazing. She was super knowledgeable and walked us through the tasting process. So personable and friendly. Afterwards, we were offered to sit on the patio and enjoy the weather and views with our to go bottle. They brought out water bottles and checked on us. Such a great and welcoming place. Shout out to Ryan also, he took our photo and convinced us to buy the last dog toy for our pup. Will definitely return.

Yelp
Finally!!! We made it here... I have been wanting to visit this beautiful winery for some time now... it's my absolute favorite Chardonnay . However, I have a new favorite ... The Bushli Station Chardonnay , which can only buy here or online.. of course we bought a few bottles as our tasting agent, Todd was so incredibly helpful, and oh so generous with the pours and repeats ... ( Also not every day you meet someone as far North in Napa that is from Wichita Kansas) God bless him, we both got out... The property is so breathtaking . It sits on a hill over looking vineyards galore. The colors of Autumn did not disappoint us in the least... We had a great time exploring the grounds as we made of way to dinner.. Rombauer is a redo and then a redo again

Yelp
Beautiful winery and unpretentious sommelier. Flexible in wine selection and tasting. Also love the fact they also pour you some wine to walk around the winery after the tasting. Enjoyed their reserve Chardonnay and Merlot (a surprise!)

Yelp
Ok so there is so much history for our crew with this Chardonnay- this was a huge splurge for occasions in our early 20's... the buttery indulgence. So visiting as our last vineyard stop In a 3 day gathering was frankly SO fitting!! Our host was Javier and he made it very special! We tasted amazing Chardonnay's ! We learned history and about the fires, survival and laughter! The view is spectacular! Oh and leaving with glasses priceless! Much more than we expected from a sentimental spot to stop!

Yelp
New favorite winery find in Napa for the view, ambiance and experience. The outdoor seating options are on different levels on the hill, with lots of private platforms with your own table and heat lamp. The main bar area has lots of seating as well and inside was cozy. They allow dogs and have ample room for them, which is what brought us here. As for the tasting, some of the wine was good but I prefer a list I can choose from to taste instead of only being given specific wines in the tasting. It was very affordable though at $25.
google avatar

Marley U.

Yelp
Awesome place and beautiful property! Everyone who worked there was super nice and knowledge about their wines. I feel that it was very reasonably priced as well as having tasty wine. I would recommend bringing your own cheese and crackers!
google avatar

Corinna W.

Yelp
The best part of our experience was Kevin, our Sommelier. He was so fun, engaging and knowledgeable! He's one of the most personable Sommeliers I've met in all my years visiting Napa. This vineyard has such gorgeous views. There are inside and outside areas for your tastings. Their best wine that we tried was the Buckly Chardonnay. I'm not a Chardonnay gal but this was good! They don't serve or sell food. But they allow you to bring your own snacks which we did and it was great!

Yelp
Wonderful, welcoming experience to learn more about wine - and yes, specifically Rombauer's. I'd seen and even tasted some of their Chardonnay over the years, but I had no idea how rich the history is with the family name in terms of food and wine. I am no expert on visiting vineyards, but it was easy to get absorbed in the different wines, the history of the region, and relatable terms to better understand what we tasted. Our Som was a joy to learn from. Likable, knowledgable and easy-going, Phillip brings a lot to the table, so to speak. He answered our many questions, and was unflappable throughout. There was a total of three tables (six people total) in our tasting, and was easy to chat with the other folks in the group. The wine was fantastic, and I liked how there was no pressure to buy. Still, it makes all kind of sense to do so, of course. I liked how the story of Rombauer and just enjoying their different wines were the main attractions. It was fun and a relaxing way to spend about ninety minutes. Afterwards, walk around the grounds for some lovely views. Back inside, their retail area has wine, and accompanying items, plus a few other nice gifts. There's a place to buy Wines By The Glass, too. The whole place felt like a comfortable, mellow party. I would absolutely recommend this, and look forward to visiting again some day. Review #1400

Yelp
As much as I love walking around their grounds, touring their winery building is one of our favorite things to do. As a member of their wine club, we've enjoyed their Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay since our first trip there in 1990: more so, I met U.S. Navy Captains Pete Conrad and Al Bean there (many of Al's Apollo 12 paintings adorn the walls of Rombauer's winery). We usually left the winery with a case of Cabernet Sauvignon and another of their Chardonnay (laying down the former in our cellar after sampling a bottle or two with friends). Since moving out of California, the estate visits are more difficult to make, but we still enjoy their wines courtesy of their wine club. We've been able to customize our shipments, which makes the experience much easier than most other wine clubs. Just ordered several of the 2018 Proprietor Selection Cabernet Sauvignon, and can't wait to try it... in a few years. Very nice people, great service.

Yelp
Corporate winery and it shows. beautiful setting. But run like a discount store at expensive prices. Decent if you like sweet wines. So many amazing wineries in Napa. This is one to skip.

Yelp
The last time the family and I visited Napa was probably 2018. At that time, we were shocked at how much the tasting fees had increased and how stuffy Napa had become. On Wednesday we decided to give Napa another chance being that COVID changed how wineries conduct tastings. The Mrs. found Rombauer on Yelp so we decided to book a tasting. Rombauer is located off of the Silverado trail near St. Helena. It sits on top of a hill with beautiful views of the valley below. Our tasting was scheduled for 10 a.m. which was perfect because the heat was coming in fast. Once we checked in at the tasting room, the hostess took us to a beautifully shaded area on the side of a small hill next to the tasting room. It was just my family and two other couples so very intimate. Truthfully, I didn't have high expectations. I was expecting that someone would come along, pour for us and walk away. Philip poured for us and it was one of the best wine tasting experiences the Mrs. and I have had. Philip walked us through each wine. beginning with a rather new varietal to Rombauer, Sauvignon Blanc, which is the only white wine I'll drink. He then poured us the Rombauer Chardonnay which is what the winery is known for. In between pours, Philip shared tales of his life in Florida. Yes, he made fun of Florida because all the weird stuff happens in Florida. He told us about his career at Disney and how he started down the path to where is is today, a Sommelier. Philip was also a Manga fan which my daughter loved. He also mentioned anecdotes from the TV show, How I Met Your Mother, which my daughter related to as well. It was nice that kiddo got something out of the experience as well. Our tasting experience lasted about an hour and fifteen minutes. Philip poured us a glass to walk around with while we admired the grounds which are beautiful. Since we had some time to kill before heading to Mustard's Grill for lunch, we stopped by the tasting room for another glass. The hostess said that they wouldn't pour a full glass because they believe in responsible wine tasting. I appreciate that.

Yelp
This was my first Napa experience, and it was a truly memorable one, thanks to my best friend who took me here for my birthday. I loved everything about our visit--the beautiful grounds, the wine tasting itself, our fun and informative host, Kaden, and the wines we purchased of course. I'm not a wine drinker myself (the company I keep are) so I did ask dumb questions, but our host was not at all condescending and answered all of those questions with grace. I also understand that the wine tasting cost is competitive for the area (I'm from out of town). With such a wonderful experience that our party of 6 had, and our party ranged from the wine uninitiated to daily consumers, this is a place that I highly recommend.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my visit here. The customer service was top notch and I learned a lot about the wine founders. Beautiful gardens around the tasting room and the view is also to enjoy while you're there.

Yelp
Had the absolute best wine tasting experience ever here! My boyfriend and I have been hearing about this place for their incredibly reasonably priced tastings, along with the gorgeous view, and while those are both true, what I think truly made this place stand out was the impeccable service. Our sommelier, Philip, was one of the kindest, most knowledgeable, and most interesting sommeliers I've met, and he truly made the experience. We arrived about half an hour early from traffic working in our favor, and he generously offered to start us early. For $25, this tasting was an absolute steal. You get five samples, and Philip walked us through the background and making process of each one. The experience was much more interactive than any of the other wineries I've been to, where you're usually just given the wine, some brief information, and left alone. After the tasting, Philip offered us each an extra sample of wine to walk around and take pictures with, which is super considerate and something we obviously wanted to do. Because he learned that it was our anniversary and we were already planning on purchasing a bottle, he also waived our tasting fee! Would definitely recommend this experience to anyone; I'm eager to come back with a bigger group of friends next time!

Yelp
Lovely winery with beautiful views. We enjoyed our outdoor tasting with Ryan, who was extremely knowledgeable about the wines and local growing regions; he was friendly and taught us a few things. Nice experience with delicious wines.

Yelp
Rombauer is infamous for "THE" butter Chardonnay. I'd say, subjectively, it's not my cup of tea. Objectively, it might actually be "perfect". Notes of buttered popcorn in the nose and a soft buttery texture on the palate followed by JUST enough acidity to wrap things up in a clean finish. My issue is with the butter and too much malolactic fermentation but this really is a personal preference thing. The experience and service at Rombauer is top notch in and of itself. Everyone is cordial, energetic, and you're greeted by smiles all around. We showed up at 2:45 for our 3pm appointment. We were asked to wait until our appointment time because our table was "being turned over". That's fine. We approached the hostess exactly at 3 PM and we were informed that our table was still not ready. She apologized for the inconvenience and told us that she would come and grab us from the patio area as soon as it was ready. By 3:10, she was headed over to inform us that our table is ready. Not a bad wait time. Plus, when you're in Napa, you're on a different timeline (e.g. Wine time). 10 minutes behind schedule isn't unheard of or even unacceptable. Just notable. The views here are spectacular. You can grab wine by the glass or be seated for a guided tasting. Wines are reasonably priced (30-50 average) and facilities are clean and welcoming. The only reason I can't give this visit 5 stars is because of the slight delay in appointment time and the fact that groups who arrived AFTER us were seated BEFORE us. That's sorta a big "no-no" in the service world. This... and the valet parking. Although it's complimentary... I personally don't see the need for it when the parking lot is right in front of the tasting room and I'd prefer to park my own vehicle. Maybe this isn't an annoyance for others though.

Yelp
We love Rombauer wine, and a visit to their vineyard should not be missed when in Napa valley. This was our second visit, and happy to say the experience was even nicer than our first visit (pre-pandemic). On this visit, we were seated outside among their lovely gardens, and spectacular hillside grounds with views of the vineyards. Unfortunately, the recent fires did damage near the property, but thankfully the wine and vines have done fine. Most people love the Chardonnay they produce, arguably the best in Napa, or perhaps in the USA. While I love it, I do think they make outstanding Zin's as well. Kerry was our tasting expert on this visit. She is knowledgeable, friendly and just made the whole experience special for us as we were celebrating our anniversary weekend. Wine tastings in Napa have gotten expensive and sometimes a bit stuffy, and thankfully you will not find that to be the case here. Be sure to visit, and I trust you will enjoy.
