Wonderful, welcoming experience to learn more about wine - and yes, specifically Rombauer's. I'd seen and even tasted some of their Chardonnay over the years, but I had no idea how rich the history is with the family name in terms of food and wine.
I am no expert on visiting vineyards, but it was easy to get absorbed in the different wines, the history of the region, and relatable terms to better understand what we tasted.
Our Som was a joy to learn from. Likable, knowledgable and easy-going, Phillip brings a lot to the table, so to speak. He answered our many questions, and was unflappable throughout. There was a total of three tables (six people total) in our tasting, and was easy to chat with the other folks in the group.
The wine was fantastic, and I liked how there was no pressure to buy. Still, it makes all kind of sense to do so, of course. I liked how the story of Rombauer and just enjoying their different wines were the main attractions. It was fun and a relaxing way to spend about ninety minutes.
Afterwards, walk around the grounds for some lovely views. Back inside, their retail area has wine, and accompanying items, plus a few other nice gifts. There's a place to buy Wines By The Glass, too. The whole place felt like a comfortable, mellow party. I would absolutely recommend this, and look forward to visiting again some day.
