London’s New Restaurant Openings - London - The Infatuation

"Anyone who has an unhealthy relationship with their phone (we’re raising our hand) will have heard of Le Relais De Venise l’Entrecôte—a hyped French bistro that whips TikTokers into a frenzy. The team behind it are branching out with a new Japanese handroll restaurant. The Marylebone temaki bar, Romeo San, will be walk-in-only and serve A5 wagyu as well as uni and caviar rolls." - sinead cranna, rianne shlebak

Tip: I never thought taking a proper, pro looking pic of hand rolls would be this painful. If you’re hoping to get a clean shot of your food, make sure to ask the chef to spread it out (like in the pictures below) before rolling it up. Just be mindful and only do it when the place isn’t too busy, since it can slow down their workflow. Lucky for us, it was quiet when we visited and they kindly made it work. After trying Kokoro in Dubai, I kept thinking that London needs something like this. It’s the kind of concept that feels fitting for this city, and I’m still surprised it didn’t start here in the first place. This spot has been on my list since it opened, and I can finally say it was worth the wait. The hand roll bar I tried in Dubai was a step above, but this one is still great, and I have no doubt they’ll get there with time. Big shoutout to the team (CHEF RODRIGUEZ, CHEF LUIS, MOHAMMED, and KC) who bring the whole place to life with their warmth, attentiveness, and genuine care. Their energy really holds everything together. Highly recommend checking it out. I’m already planning to come back again this month. Solid 7.5 out of 10.

Amazing seared toro definitely get that! Still dreaming about it today. I got the temaki 5 and the best one was the yellowtail and salmon. Not sure about the mayonnaise one but I think it’s just preference. I love the vibe and concept. Igo to lots of omakase places and this one is one of my fav in London. Bills came to around £50 for 6pieces and a dessert which is pretty affordable for dinner omakase style!

Great cozy place in central London to have a quick lunch. I took the first set and seared salmon sashimi. My fav above all is spicy tuna temaki. Even though I was at lunch time, Wagyu was sold out already, so now I have to go back and try it out (4 stars only because of that) Looking forward to check out new items on the menu in the future, especially desserts :)

Very delightful dinner experience at Romeo San tonight with my wife. We ordered the 6-piece set menu each with salmon and tuna sashimi on the side and everything was delicious af. The head chef Rodrigo knows what he is doing having spent the previous nine years at Sushi Atelier, which is also one of our fave spots in Marylebone. I also tried both of the sake options on the menu and both were nice, but I would definitely recommend going for the more pricey one if you are going to choose only one. Dessert cheesecake-whatever-they-are-called were also very delicious. They don't take bookings but we had no problem getting seats at around 8.30pm on a Friday night. Will definitely go back soon again!

Look, if you want a vibey spot to take a date or grab a quick bougie lunch if you work in the area, sure, go for it. But this place is sadly inauthentic from the get-go, from the rice crackers in 2/5 of the rolls in the £29 set menu to the only green tea on the menu being a prepackaged bottle that comes chilled. The food was very meh, especially because they slathered sauce and other ingredients on that overpowered the fish/seafood. Genuinely could not taste the fish in any of my rolls. Service was poor, had to ask for water, and then they only brought 1 glass (for the 2 of us). Had to remind about tea, then the bill multiple times.

A no reservation, temaki bar. The menu is small but perfectly formed. Great combinations of ingredients including some luxurious yet affordable ingredients such as wagyu, toro, uni and caviar. Good fun to sit at the counter and have packages of delicious food handed to you to munch on

The hand rolls were delicious, service was excellent, and the place has a great vibe! Food came out in minutes after ordering which was wonderful. My favorites were the spicy eel and the truffle crab!

The rolls are mediocre at best. The flavours in the rolls are very unbalanced and you can hardly taste the fish. Prices are outrageous for the quality of food. The dining experience in general is very poorly thought out. There is not much on the menu aside from the hand rolls. The rolls come very quick and you get 4~6 rolls for the set menu which you can get through in 30 minutes before you are rushed out. I find it hard to believe the people who gave this restaurant 5 star reviews have ever been to a Japanese restaurant before.
