London’s New Restaurant Openings - London - The Infatuation

"Anyone who has an unhealthy relationship with their phone (we’re raising our hand) will have heard of Le Relais De Venise l’Entrecôte—a hyped French bistro that whips TikTokers into a frenzy. The team behind it are branching out with a new Japanese handroll restaurant. The Marylebone temaki bar, Romeo San, will be walk-in-only and serve A5 wagyu as well as uni and caviar rolls." - sinead cranna, rianne shlebak

Romeo San - Review - Marylebone - London - The Infatuation

"Romeo San takes inspiration from NYC and LA Japanese handroll bars, but in trying to be different, this Marylebone spot falls flat. You know a menu is onto a dodgy thing when it thinks pairing crab with overbearing truffle paste is a good idea, as well as mixing buttery negi toro with an unnecessary amount of spring onion. The minimalist interior is pleasant enough, although it’s hard to enjoy when every handroll is presented to you before you’ve finished chewing the last one. This assault by rice and nori is the Marylebone equivalent of a hot dog eating contest and greedy participants can add a dollop of caviar to every temaki if they so wish. For a rushed, indulgent snack, it’s passable, even if many of the fillings are over-chilled. Really, you should be eating handrolls elsewhere. Food Rundown Set Menu: Temaki x 6 This quick-fire menu of six temaki—just know there are no swaps allowed—presents Romeo San’s love of crunchy rice cracker balls, spring onion, and gochujang. Somewhere underneath these extras, you’ll find the fish. The best of the rolls is the negi toro: a melting mix of chopped fatty tuna with soy, wasabi, and a bit too much spring onion. It’s (fairly) simple and the tuna is front and centre, and that’s why it works. Other things, like the yellowtail overpowered by chilli oil and the crab pummelled by truffle paste, are the opposite. photo credit: Jake Missing" - Jake Missing

The rolls are expertly done by Rodrigo. My personal favourite is the sea bass, but they are all amazing. The service is also great

Tip: I never thought taking a proper, pro looking pic of hand rolls would be this painful. If you’re hoping to get a clean shot of your food, make sure to ask the chef to spread it out (like in the pictures below) before rolling it up. Just be mindful and only do it when the place isn’t too busy, since it can slow down their workflow. Lucky for us, it was quiet when we visited and they kindly made it work. After trying Kokoro in Dubai, I kept thinking that London needs something like this. It’s the kind of concept that feels fitting for this city, and I’m still surprised it didn’t start here in the first place. This spot has been on my list since it opened, and I can finally say it was worth the wait. The hand roll bar I tried in Dubai was a step above, but this one is still great, and I have no doubt they’ll get there with time. Big shoutout to the team (CHEF RODRIGUEZ, CHEF LUIS, MOHAMMED, and KC) who bring the whole place to life with their warmth, attentiveness, and genuine care. Their energy really holds everything together. Highly recommend checking it out. I’m already planning to come back again this month. Solid 7.5 out of 10.

Amazing seared toro definitely get that! Still dreaming about it today. I got the temaki 5 and the best one was the yellowtail and salmon. Not sure about the mayonnaise one but I think it’s just preference. I love the vibe and concept. Igo to lots of omakase places and this one is one of my fav in London. Bills came to around £50 for 6pieces and a dessert which is pretty affordable for dinner omakase style!

Great cozy place in central London to have a quick lunch. I took the first set and seared salmon sashimi. My fav above all is spicy tuna temaki. Even though I was at lunch time, Wagyu was sold out already, so now I have to go back and try it out (4 stars only because of that) Looking forward to check out new items on the menu in the future, especially desserts :)

An absolutely fantastic experience. One of my best culinary experiences in London, if not the best. Everything was perfect from when we walked into the restaurant. All staff were extremely friendly, accommodating and chatty. Had fantastic conversations with the two chefs while we watched them prepare the food in front of us. They spoke to us in depth about all the different options we had ordered, recommended their favourites, spoke all about the ingredients and components, checked up on whether we were enjoying, joked with us and generally provided some of the best conversation I've ever had at any restaurant. The food was amazing, brilliant textures, unique flavour combinations - every item we ordered was delicious in its own right and in a different way. Can't wait to come back here again to try the remaining items we didn't try this time, and have an another great chat with the two brilliant chefs. The fatty tuna sashimi, daikon yellowtail temaki and negi toro temaki were sublime, highly recommend.

Fun vibes, fresh hand rolls and lots of variety. Staff were super nice and attentive and because it’s a small place, you can watch them making the hand rolls and other dishes.

A no reservation, temaki bar. The menu is small but perfectly formed. Great combinations of ingredients including some luxurious yet affordable ingredients such as wagyu, toro, uni and caviar. Good fun to sit at the counter and have packages of delicious food handed to you to munch on
