10 Hotels Around the World Opening in Summer 2024 - AFAR

"O‘ahu’s first adults-only hotel delivers a stylish, grown-up Waikīkī experience across 179 rooms filled with local art and oversized photography; some rooms showcase works by noted photographers. Dining is led by an izakaya-style restaurant serving shareable plates like takoyaki, okonomiyaki and Tokyo hot chicken, and a Backyard pool-and-bar with cabana daybeds and a full-service bar is positioned to be the hotel’s social hub for an adult crowd." - Jennifer Flowers

We loved most things about this hotel, including the centralized location, late-night happy hour, aesthetic of the rooms/lobby, and friendly staff. Two things I want to mention that made the room difficult to use. The shower has a very short glass partition to keep water inside the shower. We tried everything to keep the water from spraying onto the floor, but failed miserably. We ended up having to use many towels to dry the floor off after every shower. It just made showering uncomfortable and felt like a chore. Also, there are motion activated lights in certain areas of the room. My husband would move his foot at night and the bright light would automatically turn on by the door (4 times in one night) Just very annoying and an unnecessary feature. There is also no night-light in the bathroom and the light switch is behind the door. Not the most user-friendly space, but everything else was great. We stayed Tuesday night to Friday night, and did not have any issues with noise or rowdiness, which was a concern with an adults-only hotel. The vibes were very upscale with still being chill. Highly recommend the late-night happy hour (unique dishes and cocktails for great prices)

The overall hotel is pretty good. No kids allowed so it's pretty quiet inside. Everything is pretty clean and modern. You get one free sake bomb drink at happy hour per person. You also get two free aluminum water bottles per room that you can fill up with water or sparkling water near the elevators. There is valet which is nice too because street parking is near impossible. There were two downsides though. One being the single pane glass windows let a lot of road noise in if your on the street side. You can hear every car and truck driving down the road at night. The bathroom was a bit weird. Nowhere to hang the hand towel, so it took up counter space. The shower is awkward because half of the shower is covered by a glass wall with the other half not covered by anything, so when you shower, water gets all over the floor. Essentially you can only use half of the shower. There are also no shelves, so all your shower stuff needs to go on the floor. Very weird and annoying. One bonus though is it has a high tech bidet 😂. Ignoring the bathroom, the overall stay was pretty good.

Romer House Waikiki is in a great location in Honolulu. You're about a 7 minute walk to the beach and you can walk to multiple shopping centers and TONS of restaurants. You're also given two tickets for a free sake shot or a soda - but you can only use it after 9 pm "during happy hour" - that didn't make much sense to me because if it's a free drink why does it matter what time you redeem the coupon... We were so tired from drinking and swimming at the beach and excursions during the day that by 9 pm we weren't going down to the bar in the hotel to drink. (we are in our 30's though lol) The biggest downside of our room was how it was set up. Our room faced the pool so I didn't make sense to have the bed facing the window/patio door. It made it very difficult to see the TV while we were laying in bed trying to relax because the TV is on the wall directly beside the bed. I would definitely suggest rearranging the rooms that makes sense in the way that they would actually be used instead of whatever aesthetic they were trying to achieve. The showers are lovely as far as pressure and water temperature, however I don't know why so many hotels are going with the half glass wall with no shower door. You're provided a floor mat but it still feels like water is just spraying out into the bathroom. There is also no microwave in the rooms which is a downside as well. The mini fridge was appreciated but it can't fit much in there. For the price, I would definitely recommend considering how expensive everything else in Honolulu is but there is definitely room for improvement.

Waikiki can be a lot to take in when it comes to working out a peaceful retreat that is comfortable to stay in, easy to navigate, and located near all your favorite things in the area. As a local, having a great place to stay-cation is a bonus when it still manages to feel like home in all the right ways; there was truly a difference between tacky Hawaiian decor at other resorts and the modern motif of local flavor here. Really enjoyed staying at Romer House - and having friends to share it with was great. The vibe is chic, and you can tell they’ve put a lot of effort in how they want their guests to feel when they come to visit. Parking is a breeze with great valet service, and the friendly staff are always attentive to your needs. Rooms are super comfortable, and the bed is incredible. One great perk was the text-to-concierge feature. I got all my questions asked with prompt responses without having to leave my room! The tasty Breakfast options are a great time-saver if you’re in a pinch and want to get the day started without having to work out all the options in Waikiki, and the location near a large mall and Target are incredibly convenient for all your essential needs. If you are looking for a great quality place, Romer House is your choice. I would definitely recommend staying here and will definitely return for future visits!

A gem of a hotel centrally located. Love the decor and the room. All of the staff members from front desk, valet and housekeeping were friendly and courteous. Jamie helped us at check in and throughout our stay. I would definitely come back --- but with all of the fave reviews I am afraid it may become too popular and the prices will go up like other hotels in the area.

So my family and I, had 3 separate rooms for each couple in our group (me and my partner, my sister and her partner, and my parents). only downside to the rooms are the showers in my opinion. the glass paneling is only about a foot to 2 feet that actually covers the shower and the rest is open, so a ton of water will get on the floor. i was super super mindful of the way i was moving my body, to avoid water hitting the floor but it still would so i imagine someone who doesn’t pay close attention would do it even worse. the service has been phenomenal, everyone at reception greeting us and wishing for us to enjoy our day, handing out towels when needed and just all around kind. everyone in my family works in the hospitality industry (i used to work at a forbes rated hotel back home in Florida) and we were all very pleased with the hospitality here. we have been here 3/9 days so far and my favorite aspect (as of right now) has been the downstairs bar. tonight my partner and i went down for a last minute dinner and Ryan, the bartender, took care of us at the bar. he is super personable and after listening to him discuss with other guests about different cocktails he’s been playing around with, he is extremely knowledgeable about flavor profiles and what pairs well together. as someone who has been bartending for years, i appreciated his service and felt like it was down to earth but still professional. this hotel has exceeding my expectations thus far, and being in the industry, i definitely hold high standards when spending this kind of money. its been a great experience, all in all. its my first time back to the island as an adult, to visit some family in Pearl City and i cannot recommend this hotel enough! Thank you to all, truly.

I had the opportunity to enjoy a new restaurant in Waikiki that I wasn't expecting to be so darn good and fun! The hip/fun new place is the Izakaya 855-Aloha at the Romer House. Nice menu, very family friendly, with a little something for everyone. I had a business dinner (thank you M. Kelly) and we had food served based on the what the waitress was feeling that would suit us. She asked some questions and got the process started and we end up having a wonderful meal, the dishes kept coming, most of the table had some fun custom drinks and all in all, I've got a new go to, restaurant in Waikiki. It's nice a find a fun, interesting place where I can do and enjoy the food and company!!
