9 Of The Best Babkas In London - London - The Infatuation

"Available for takeaway & click and collect There’s only one way to describe the babka from Roni’s, and that is as a feat of engineering and flavour. It looks good enough to wear to Ascot, perfectly woven and threaded, but the only place we want to be wearing this is in and around our mouth. It’s a simultaneously soft and crispy babka with just the right amount of chocolate and, in the words of GBBO ‘a perfectly even bake’." - jake missing

The Best Restaurants Near Hampstead Heath - London - The Infatuation

"Roni’s is a favourite amongst NW postcode locals. It first opened in West Hampstead in 1989 and now has a few spots in Belsize Park, Highgate, and Muswell Hill. Its Swains Lains outpost, right by Parliament Hill Lido, is perfect for a park picnic. The bagels are a soft and chewy delight, full of a hefty smear or two of cream cheese. If you’re after a sweet treat, the babka is pretty delicious as well." - jake missing

The 14 Best Bagels In London - London - The Infatuation

"Another north west favourite, Roni’s Bagel Bakery opened in West Hampstead in 1989, and now has a few spots in Belsize Park, Highgate, and Muswell Hill. The bagels here are solid, although a little inconsistent from location to location. That said, when they’re on form, they’re a soft and chewy delight. The cream cheese here is also top-tier stuff, as is the babka." - jake missing, sinead cranna

Had the best porridge ever here with banana and cinnamon. My son had tricolour which is poached egg on avocado on sourdough. Two of these proved too much with the mozzarella and tomato. I bought a bagel and some homemade jammy dodgers, which were a bit soft for my liking. Definitely a good eatery, inside or out.

The staff was kind but the prices here are ridiculous. This cost me £16. They charged me £4 extra to eat in (why?) and also added another service charge. The sandwich was falling apart and was tiny. The salad did not look appetising at all. Won’t be coming back.

Got some cannoli and I was very disappointed - they are the very sweet, glazed, hard ones that you can buy in a box from some conershops, nothing fresh about them. But they are presented individually in the shop right next to their cakes. I attach an example picture of the boxed one I am referring to and the one I bought from them. I paid £2.5 a piece at this place. Horrible human beings! Oh, the seller also wrote down one extra cannoli which I thought was by mistake - or was it?

Unfortunately my experience of eating at Roni's was not as positive as it had been at other branches. I ordered french toast (which I have had before at another branch and elsewhere). After a couple of bites I realised it was soggy and under cooked. Looking underneath, I could see it was only cooked on the top side. It was pretty disgusting, raw soggy bread that had been dipped in egg and not cooked properly. I complained, I assume the staff member did not understand my complaint as when repeating back the issue to me, she said I wanted it well cooked, I repeated the issue of it being uncooked, but sure enough the replacement I received was now thoroughly burnt on the underside. This is not a difficult dish to prepare. I will not be returning. What a shame as there are few quality places in Hampstead.

Google
The coffee shop has potential, but overall, my experience was underwhelming. The food was below average—not very fresh or flavorful—and the service was quite slow and inattentive. The interior could really use some improvement; On top of that, there was a strong smell of cooking throughout the entire place, which lingered on my clothes. It’s an okay spot if you’re just grabbing a quick drink, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to return.

Good portion sizes, reasonably priced and good quality ingredients. What more do you need for brunch. There are lots of coffee shops around the area so did not try the coffee there, got a healthy juice instead which was great with the breakfast. Bakery looks great also.

Google
Delicious food in general. Unfortunately, attention to detail is missing. The service is a bit chaotic and uncoordinated. I also wasn't impressed that although I ordered the salt beef on rye bread I got it on white bread. When I flagged this with the waiter he insisted it was rye bread. It clearly wasn't (see picture) but I didn't want to pick a fight over this. Roni's, you can do better...

Google
Good food but latte and mocha was okay. The Ronis Scrambled was delicious and big in portion. Pretty good for £9.50. A fairly small cafe so you won't have much privacy dining here.

Yelp
A wonderful selection of pastries, bagels, and premade bites! The beet salad is divine and incredibly refreshing. A great little gem.

Yelp
Accommodating staff, able to allow for larger groups. Unusual layout to the store, felt quite busy despite not having many people there at the time. Breakfast was enjoyable albeit served on an unnecessarily large plate. Would recommend to those in the area as not many other similar places (Gail's doesn't have the range of food and others lack seating space).

Yelp
Food ok. Humus ok. Not the best I had. But you order a humus. They give you a small peace of pita. And when I ask for more pita. You can't eat humus with out it. They say. 1.75 for more pita. Crazy. Greedy. Never again. I will not recommended that place

Yelp
Great breakfast/brunch bakery & patisserie restaurant. Excellent menu, coffee and bakery products. Good service and reasonable prices. Somewhat cramped inside, but that's all part of the charm of Hampstead life.

Yelp
We've used Hampstead Roni on & off for years. But last week we purchased some humus, it has gone off. Fridge issue? Today I wanted a drink and get some biscuits. But I went to the bathroom first. A shock. The stairs are filthy, the bathroom very badly kept, dirty, even the door itself. As I waited my turn for the bathroom, the sight of the kitchen was awful, disorganised and disgusting. Food debris and waste everywhere. Old aluminium foil badly lining cooking stations. One person refilling some half empty mayo bottles, pushing the mayo in with ungloved fingers. Some dropped on the floor and was not tidied up. Health & safety? I will absolutely not go there again. The Swains lane branch is sharp front of house, but I have not seen it's kitchen! Does not even deserve 1 star.

Yelp
We had not been to Roni's in over a year and had forgotten how good the food was. Besides the delicious food the service was also excellent. I am so pleased we went back again and look forward to our next visit. John I

Yelp
I only had a drink there, so can't really comment on the food. I drank a Chai latte, which was quite good. However, I was pretty disappointed with the attitude of some of the staff. The male waiter who served me was particularly rude and unfriendly. Also, children screaming in nearby tables doesn't fit my concept of a pleasant cafe environment (although considering the neighbourhood where Roni's is located, it was to be expected). Not sure I'll return...

Yelp
A new addition to the walk up to Hampstead caught our eye, so fellow yelper Vickie and I popped in for work lunch. An interesting and quite diverse menu spans the tastes of mini burgers, all-day breakfasts, pastas and yes, baked goods. I went with a Mediterranean breakfast which kind of reminds me of how I behave when I eat breakfast on holidays in hotels, a bit of this, bit of that, but it all worked together- Eggs, tuna, tahini, salad, slices of cheddar, brie, bread, it's a mini buffet for one. Our nearby diners had the salmon breakfast platter which looked amazing and gave us a bit of food envy. There's something for any time of day, and a couple of outside seats so you can watch the traffic and dogs go by, a great cafe and good value for money!

Yelp
Nice premises, really friendly staff, and OMG their shakshuka. Their shakshuka is sooooooo good. So good that while I've breakfasted there a bunch of times I can't review any of their other food, cause man the shakshuka is all you need. Also really great coffee there.

Yelp
Food - the croissants are surprisingly crusty on the outside, doughy and soft in the inside. Cappuccino was light in flavor but foam was good. Service - very very friendly and fast

Yelp
One of few options for breakfast/brunch in the area but sadly we were quite disappointed and won't be back. We order the royale and florentine Benedicts - the bread (both brioche and bagel) was dry and tasteless and the eggs were a bit watery. The lady who served us was quite strange and unfriendly and the staff kept propping the door open to serve the outside table on a day it was just about 0 degrees! Fine if you're brave enough to sit outside but we chose to sit inside hoping for some warmth!
