27 Best Things to Do in London

"Nightlife institutions are institutions for a reason. And Ronnie Scott's, Soho’s premier jazz venue on Frith Street, never, ever disappoints. One rule: book your ticket in advance. Ronnie's is a concert venue, generally hosts two sittings a night—everyone from Nina Simone to Pharaoh Sanders has played here—and gigs get booked out quickly by tourists, aficionados and fellow musicians. You can, however, usually get into Ronnie’s Bar, a smaller more dance oriented venue upstairs, without advance notice, as well as into the 'late late' shows. The place itself is everything a jazz venue should be: dark, loud and enticing, romantic even, and so very Soho—you’ll probably feel like drinking whisky but Champagne always goes down better. When the music ends, and you fall out buzzing into the street, finish up with a bite at the legendary late-night favorite Bar Italia across the road. It’s just what's done." - Ramsay Short, Sonya Barber

Where to Eat with Live Music in London | Eater London

"Legendary late saxophonist Ronnie Scott opened the doors to his Soho club in 1959 as a place for budding musicians to cut their teeth. Sixty years later, it still looms large. The bar was a pioneer with its Wednesday Jazz Jam, a late night instrumental session that has morphed into a main ticketed show — often repeated on Saturdays — that can sell out weeks in advance. Following this is a brief recess after which there is “The Late Late Show,” a relaxed 1950s speakeasy vibe where the doors are open till the wee hours of the morning. For the hungry amongst punters, the menu is nothing short of fancy with wild mushroom tart, lobster, pork belly and 55-day-aged steaks, and even celebratory caviar." - Riaz Phillips

This is a club that has been around for 65 years so seems to have really withstood the test of time. So much so that they are expanding next door. The acoustics are really good and it's a really nice vibe. I guess your experience will also depend on who you see that night. We were there on a Sunday night and it was completely packed. We did not eat there as we were told the food is mediocre. If you are looking for live music, I highly recommend.

Took my parents out for a treat and we had dinner whilst at the main event of Monty Alexander. The show was off the scale! From the moment you enter Ronnie Scott's to the moment you leave, the service and friendliness is superb. You really feel special and valued. The food came really quickly and was thoroughly enjoyed by all of us, as was a bottle of wine and some deserts. The prices are not too bad considering where you are but being so close to sjilled musicians makes this a wonderful experience. This wasn't my first visit and will definitely not be my last. We'll done RS 👍

What a fantastic jazz orchestra! The musicians and conductor looked like they were enjoying themselves as much as we were, and the M.C was charming and engaging. The atmosphere is incredible, and the waiting staff were friendly and attentive. The food was delicious, and the cocktails were extensive to say the least. They must have had over 50 options!

Walking into Ronnie Scott’s is like entering into a cabaret scene of a movie set. The venue is plush and intimate - as you would expect from this world renowned jazz club. Waiting staff was efficient and friendly. And the music? - top notch. Omar was in his element when he performed that evening. We had the most enjoyable time! If you are still wondering whether it’s worth spending an evening at Ronnie Scott’s, do yourself a favour and just do it!

We came for some drinks and the show, the team here are WONDERFUL! Outstanding above it’s class these people made us feel like royalty. It was truly a premium experience, the show was great, and the audience were really respectful of the musicians. An amazing night - we will be back no doubt.

Google
Best jazz club in the world. Staff are fantastic and the new menu is really tasty. Huge range of drink. Go! You’ll have the best time. But remember, when you queue up outside, if your looking at the club front entrance, member queue on the left and non members on the right. If you get the the wrong way round you’ll find yourself moving from the back of a short queue to the back of a very long one. Thank me later !

I loved Ronnie’s! The place is bigger than I expected. The service is very fluid and so efficient! Drinks are amazing and the music is impeccable! Love love the ambiance !

I last saw an incredible 4-man performance at the Late Late Show. Table service can be a little slow because they are very personable and attentive. If you're really thirsty, I sometimes order drinks at the bar, a little faster when there isn't a queue. Cocktails were fantastic, wine list is extensive. Seats were comfortable, sound was perfect, lighting was on point. You walk into a different world and come out a different person every time.

Yelp
I loved the music and the venue is really cool. We were in the upstairs small room and it was fantastic. Good service, good drinks and just a great time.

Yelp
The atmosphere was small and cozy like a speakeasy. The food for the dinner show was surprisingly good. Usually, when you get dinners that come with a show, it is streamlined and boring. This was anything but. The flavors were rich. The service was phenomenal. Every seat in the house had a great view. The only downside for the section we sat in was the tables were stationary and near the padded benches. The cocktails were inventive and reasonably priced.

Yelp
Fun jazz club w lots of history. Definitely have to get tickets ahead of time for the main show. I got tickets at the door for upstairs. Good drinks, slow service, good music.

Yelp
Sunday night November--an album launch for a friend of a friend--the venue was packed to the brim. Walking into the club, attendants check for tickets (via phones or physical tickets) to the event; this entryway also serves as a waiting area pre-show, as well as a meet and greet reception spot post show. In the main room, a small bar sits kitty corner on the right as you enter. The stage is set up in the center front of the room, with terraced rows of seats fanning out from center, left and right. The cozy, intimate space and dim lighting evokes an atmosphere of sitting in a fancy home parlour listening to your professional musician friends' jam session. If anything the seating was a bit tight especially given winter coats and such, there is no walking room within each row while everyone is seated, though for those sitting at the ends of the row the aisles were narrow but traversable. The food was delicious, the menu included some vegetarian/vegan options, and although nothing experimental or mind-blowing, the items I tried were well prepared. This included the scallop appetizer, 55 day dry aged steak with chips (medium rare was perfect) and cauliflower steak w/grilled tofu for the entrees (really tasty job on the tofu, didn't miss the meat and plenty filling), and the chocolate fondant cake with an ooey gooey center. The couple rounds of drinks imbibed for the evening were solid too. The bathrooms are located in the basement down a very narrow stairwell, really only one person can go up or down at one time. I think if any modifications could be made to this it'd be helpful-- since considering a full house the number of people trying to use the restrooms during intermission is challenging. Covid regulations in November 2021 didn't require masks when seated (and eating), and obviously the musicians couldn't perform with masks on. In retrospect given how crowded it was--probably wasn't a good idea to pack the house (at least given omicron had just started making the rounds), but I can understand how times are tough for live music venues and it's pretty difficult for businesses like this to enforce masks and social distancing given existing limitations.

Yelp
We have been to Ronnies many many times but the last time was pretty poor. The act was great in the main room but the experience definitely was not. We sat next to some excellent people and enjoyed their company but the two women behind us apparently don't get out much and then pestered us and the group next to us to the pint of tapping us in the shoulder and being very obnoxious the entire set. They complained that one of the group worn his hat and that it would block their view...and it was a skull cap so it blocked nothing. They complained the entire set that we stop having small talk between those of us in our group but we never had more than and occasional comment. The table next to us seated 6 and one of those seated was an owner of the club. His group talked more that we did and that was alright apparently. And it truly was as these two obnoxious women would not stop irritating everyone on our group and the one next to us. I finally had enough and strongly told them to We have been to Ronnies many many times but the last time was pretty poor. The act was great in the main room but the experience definitely was not. They then complained this colloidal TWIT security "girl", and she was a girl, and this girl didn't even want to know what had happened from OUR SIDE and decided to kick us out...but it was after the set was complete and there wasn't even a show going on!!!!! One of the nice people next to us tried to explain how horrible these stupid women were to us but the security girl refused to listen!!! Seriously unprofessional of a security girl to not even attempt to calm the situation and cause us to be further annoyed. If anything this stupid security girl needs to be immediately SACKED!!! In no uncertain term. The rest of the staff smiled indicating they had seen the type of treatment from this girl before and they were gracious and accommodating...when this twit girl was unable to even be professional. The owner even saw this and seemed to shrug when I gave him a glance. Clearly we will NEVER patronize Ronnies ever again as there are numerous establishments in London who DO NOT treat patrons so incredibly badly!! Mr Owner, you need to put a leash on this girl and properly train your staff how to handle such a situation without making a horrendous scene and stop coddling really disruptive patrons such as these two women. Also SACK this security girl/twit and fine someone more suited to professionally doing the job. Perhaps THEN we may come back. UNBELIEVEABLE!

Yelp
Super fun! Staff is friendly! Drinks are good and the positive energy is off the charts!! Definitely don't skip out on going here. P.S. The lines seems long to get in but they move fast and it's worth the wait!

Yelp
I'd like to think I've been to 2 of the best jazz clubs in the US, Green Mill in Chicago and Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York. Wanting to have as memorable an experience in London, I did an online search and decided on the venerable Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club (RSJC). I would have to say I wasn't disappointed. Located in the West End, the club was easily accessible from my lodgings in the city. Tickets for the show were bought ahead of time by my daughter, bless her heart. Be that as it may, we arrived a little close to curtain time, and we found that seating is first come, first served. We found seats with tables a bit back from and left of stage, but the sound system is good enough that it doesn't really matter, and the sight lines were only slightly obstructed. We had an excellent server, who was easy to summon for drinks and made sure they came out quickly. We had the "supper club" experience on our visit. RSJC doesn't have a huge menu, but what they had was quite good. I started off with pan fried scallops that were nicely seasoned, and surprisingly big. For the main course, I had the Hereford Farm Ribeye, aged 55 days. It came with a plump portabella 'shroom, tomato slice and fries. Priced separately, I also got a side of broccoli. The steak was cooked perfectly to order and was very good. Everything else was "just" good. I had a mid price range Merlot by the glass that went well with the meal. I'd of taken pics, but during the music, phones are to be put away and there's no flash photography (as it should be). As for the music, I was very happy with the evening's act, Big Band Metheny. As jazz aficionados know, Pat Metheny is a virtuoso jazz guitarist and composer. At first, I thought it would be difficult to translate his stylings into a big band format, but I would be gleefully wrong. This large ensemble did an awesome job, and there were many fantastic solos during the performance. As I stated, my daughter purchased show tix, so I'm not sure (didn't ask) of the price, but the food bill for 4 was about $487 USD (including service fee and alcohol). So, although not cheap, and a bit crowded with the seating, the total ambiance, location, atmosphere, and quality of entertainment, to me, was well worth the price. I went away feeling that RSJC was just as good as the clubs back in the States that I mention at the top of the review.

Yelp
Fun place to listen to jazz. Very tight space. There's food and drinks too! Expect to wait online so come early.

Yelp
Really cool jazz club in the super trendy West End neighborhood of London! My friend booked us tickets to see the late show here on Saturday and we had no idea what to expect. We had dinner around the corner and then came over as soon as doors opened to get good seats. It is first come, first serve on seating even if you have tickets ahead of time (which you will need because they always sell out!) After waiting in line outside for about 15 minutes they sat us inside and we chatted amongst ourselves until the show began. Time flies when you're in Ronnie Scott's! After a seemingly short set I looked down at my watch and it was already after midnight! Now that's a good show when hours go by and I don't realize it! The only downside to this space was that the toilets or restrooms were downstairs in the basement down a narrow stair path. This was not conducive to people going up and down at the same time, creating a bit of a bottleneck situation. The beverage offerings here were good albeit a bit pricey. The server for our table was in charge of loads of tables so we didn't see her much. We ended up grabbing drinks at the bar which seemed to piss her off when she eventually came back to see if we needed anything. If you don't want people going to the bar then you need to post that on a sign at the table or tell them when you seat them. Otherwise if there's a bar then that tells patrons they can go there to get beverages. The space was warm and cozy and the show we saw was really good. I would definitely plan to see more shows here in the future.

Yelp
Ronnie's is the first Jazz club that I've visited where the music isn't front and center. The venue seems to mix the concepts of speakers and supper club in a way that's not harmonious. But the music is top notch jazz, which makes it worthwhile. I visited Ronnie's Upstairs twice during a weeklong vacation because I'd heard great things about the club's reputation. My first visit was at 10pm on a Wednesday when admission was £6 and the second was in a Friday at 11pm when the admission was £15. On the first night the band didn't get underway until 10:30 despite an advertized 9:30 start. On Friday things were in full swing. On both occasions I was on my own. Seating is self-serve with no required minimum. There was no bar seating; only horseshoe-shaped banquette tables that sat about 8 people and were difficult to maneuver in and out of, unless you were able to sit on the very end. The tables were not within a direct sight line of the band, which is tucked into an alcove at the front of the room, next to the bar. If you want to see the band you have to stand up. On my first visit (a Wednesday) I stood for a full 90 minutes at the front of the room, with only a small handful of other people, while everyone at the tables carried on loud conversations, made public displays of intimacy and otherwise tuned out the music. On my second visit (a Friday) the front of the room was crowded with people dancing and the mostly empty tables were littered with personal effects. The Ronnie's menu featured mostly bar food, which included a £16 cheeseburger and an odd steak thrown in for £20. The drinks ranged from £9 for a glass of wine to £17 for mixed drinks. For a better experience, I'd recommend either improving the food offerings so that the menu is fitting for a supper club (and charging a premium or mandated bottle service for seating), or simplifying the menu and installing pub tables and chairs so that everything is casual.

Yelp
Ronnie Scott's is a very pretty venue which reminded me a bit of the blues scene in Chicago. I visited the premises on a Tuesday night for a Cuban jazz band and I left very impressed with the quality of service, the sound system and reasonably priced drinks menu. They also have Friday night Cuban music specials, which is live music every Friday with an entrance fee of £7 before 8 pm and £12 after. I think it is a great deal for some live music and fun if you're in the area.

Yelp
Amazing place. The sound is great and its has particukar things like no phone and no talking while the band plays and I love that.

Yelp
I came here on a Wednesday night with a bunch of friends; we had a table for 11 reserved and most of the group was in by 7:30; 2 of my friends and I stopped by around 8:30 after a work function. By then, the upstairs (where we were sitting) was pretty packed. We didn't have to wait very long to get checked in and pay for entry (it was £6 per person; I'm not sure how much it cost to reserve a table, as a friend had set it up). They accepted cash, credit, and debit (contactless as well) and marked your wrist with a green marker after you paid. The outside of the club and the check-in area were grubby, unsurprising since the evening was well under way and it's a jazz club in any case. I felt like it was pretty clean upstairs. I loved the atmosphere; it was very dim and crowded and loud, but it really had a neat speakeasy feel. There was plush seating and you could pull up plush stools if you ran out of booth space (although by the time we got there you really had to search if you needed an extra seat). However, it was also really chaotic and service was hella slow; multiple times, we went up to the bar to ask for drinks even though we were supposed to have table service because it was obvious we wouldn't get served quickly if we just ordered from the waitress. One of my friends said service had been slow even at the start of the evening. We latecomers ordered a good amount of food and drinks when we sat down (all 3 shareable appetizers, an order of chips, 2 glasses of wine, a cocktail), and it actually did come in a pretty timely fashion given how busy it was, but one of our other friends had ordered a burger before we arrived and didn't get it until about 40 minutes later, after having to follow up with 3 different staff members. At least the burger was still warm when he got it, so they probably forgot to make it entirely when he originally ordered. The food was a little expensive (although the current exchange rate is pretty favorable and made it less painful), but really tasty; the chips and spring rolls were piping hot and crisp, and the meat and cheese boards had generous portions that were easily split between 4 people. We were allowed to have separate tabs at the same table, which was handy; they gave you a card when you started a tab, which you then handed in to pay at the end of the night. The food, music, and atmosphere were good, but the service was really lackluster. I definitely enjoyed it and would go back, but with low expectations for service.

Yelp
Summary: + Great selection of quality jazz musicians from America and beyond + Classy and upmarket + Sound insulation is shite Overall: I guess this place needs no introduction from me. Along with Pizza Express (despite its silly name), Ronnie Scott's is one of the top jazz clubs in central London. As a big enthusiast of jazz and world music (I know, gross generalisation), I have always appreciated the quality of music and great selection of acts the venue provides. As you can imagine for a top jazz venue, the ambience is very classy and upmarket. The dim lighting and the presence of well-dressed waiters enhance the whole experience. I don't think this place has a dress code but I guess it will be fun to dress up a bit if you like that sort of stuff. But then I see people in casual attire (like myself) too. So up to you, I think. The acts that I have seen here in recent years include Michel Camilo (with local support brass section), Tito Puente Jr. and Joe Stilgo(He's local but/ and he is awesome). HOWEVER. The sound insulation seems very poor. Sometimes I can hear noise and music from upstairs. I had always been on denial like a child with traumatic experience. It's the world-famous Ronnie Scott's. It can't be true. It must be me. I must be hearing something in my head. But one evening, I could no longer pretender that it was just me. The act of that evening was Michel Camilo trio with the UK support brass section. He is an amazing pianist/ composer and arguably the most skilled pianist alive today in the field of latin jazz (possibly in the whole jazz). He rarely comes to the UK and this was his first visit in over three years. Anyway, towards the end of the set, he played a solo piano tune. It was a very soft tune and at the back of the mesmerising opening, I swear I heard distinctive sound of thumping bass and beat of what sounds like funk music from upstairs. The music went for the entire opening section until his solo piano piece built up tension and volume thereby masking the background noise. I could not believe what I was hearing. First, I was very annoyed that it ruined the beautiful music. And I was also embarrassed as local for this very gifted pianist who had travelled a long way to bless us with his music. This is what the best of our country has to offer? Really? It was a very painful moment. I just sat there hoping he wouldn't stop playing and walk out. In fact, I almost wished he did, for his sake. That was very disappointing. I don't know if I'm the only person who noticed it. That said, I admit the place has a top selection of jazz artists. So I will still come back to this place for that. It will be fine as long as they stay away from ballads. I think their food was decent too but I don't really remember. I usually try to eat beforehand as I'm poor.

Yelp
Overall I enjoyed my experience though I have to admit I found it a bit disappointing, as so many people had spoken to me about Ronnie Scott's that I kind of was expecting something amazing. That being said, the music was really good, so if you manage to go on one of the days where the program is suited to your taste you'll have a great experience. Definitely recommended a try - check the program first though!

Yelp
As a perennial classic, this place has seen some of the biggest names in the industry over the years and you just can't beat the sumptuous candle-lit setting. It's a very special space that I've enjoyed time and time again in years gone by. So I was surprised at how much it has changed since I'd been here 4 years ago. It appears that the management has changed a thing or two including the prices (very steep), the staff and the quality of the food. It can often feel intimidating in here and the management are very unhelpful. It's such a shame, this place may have seen its heydey. If you really want to get a feeling for this place I recommend going to a free jam session during the week for a drink to scope it out.

Yelp
Ronnies is just as you'd expect a jazz club to be like. Dark with soft lighting, plush rich coloured seating, and frame after a frame of images of jazz musicians line the walls. I started coming just to go to the bar which is above the main club. The best spot to sit in is by the bar where the bar tenders (who are some of the very best) are highly attentive and certainly know how to shake up a delicious cocktail. The bar also serves food, which is not bad. The main club is made out with long booths placed in tiers around the stage. Each table has a small table light, creating that soft seedy jazz feel. The time I found myself in the club I was very lucky. I had originally wanted to watch a young jazz band which was playing that night, but tickets were completely sold out. So I just ended up having drinks at the bar, when in between performance time who should come sit next to me to have his dinner, but a member of the band. I expressed my interest in his bands' music, and as we chatted he had invited my friend and I to go watch them, and for free! I don't think I'll be this lucky again, but if you are willing to pay the money to listening to some live jazz, you definitely should at Ronnies as it is just catapults you into a different world.

Yelp
Ronnie Scott's has become one of those places that is so well known and talked about that you have to visit whether a jazz fan or not. I have to admit, I'm not a huge jazz fan but I love everything associated with it - the glitz, the glamour and all that jazz....... Some people hate it when performance venues make a big thing of ensuring the audience remain quiet, but I whole heatedly agree that we should 'shut up' whilst the performers are on stage. Ronnie Scott's like to reemphasise this point so you can be sure that you can watch without any irritating chatter or mobile phones going off. The decor is a little dated - lots of red velvet and gold embellishments. It is old fashioned and is screaming to be revamped but it does add to the whole old jazz element and I quite liked the authentic vibe it created. The food isn't too great and most of the staff struggle with English which makes it difficult to order a large round of drinks. Ronnie Scott's is simply all about the jazz though, and every performance I have seen has been amazing. That in itself makes up for all the disadvantages I mentioned.

Yelp
Amazing and intimate venue... cant wait for my next concert there! They have dining service... food is so-so and pricey.

Yelp
I really felt like I was stepping inside a film set when I first visited Ronnie Scottts, It really was like nothing I have ever experienced before, there is a really special ambiance that felt so magical. The one and only night I have been there the jazz singer was spectacular and mesmerizing. This is a really special place to come on a date which is why I came here as It is pricy but when you are not paying who cares.
google avatar

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
Classy and intimate setting with impeccable quality jazz and table service. What more could you want! Only thing that ruined and soured the experience was the bouncer who was rude and threw around his ego. That was really disappointing and unexpected at such a famous jazz bar.

Yelp
I'm fairly biased as I perform there sometimes. But I can't speak highly enough of the place. It is unique in being an experience where you can truly relax and watch international jazz acts in the evening & pay a fairly low door tax to see the cream of London's jazz talent play as a 'house band' after the main performance. Main performance tickets start at around £25 and rising. Late Shows start at around 10:30/11pm, last til nearly 3am and cost £10 (or free with a Musician's Union card) Once you're there it's very much about the music. Do beware there is a bit of a de facto house rule towards chatter. It's generally not encouraged especially if it is distracting from the music, which I promise is more than worthy of your attention (as long as you like jazz of course*!). Although London has a fair choice of jazz venues (others to consider include the more avant-garde Vortex, the more intimate and stripped back 606 or the more crossover/soulful Pizza Express Dean Street) nowhere is quite as internationally recognised as Ronnies for mainstream jazz*, and nowhere quite matches the ambiance and feeling that takes over when you walk in. Drinks are on the expensive side (or average for a smart London establishment) & they add a service tax on most orders (table or bar service). I've only ordered the odd bit of snack food but they offer substantial meals also and a caviar menu if that's how the night's going for you! Their cocktails are around £9.50 and rising but made extremely well, plenty of old school classics with a few house recipes so worth the splash if you're feeling it. **** Ronnie's Bar. Upstairs is a more casual affair, hosting jazz nights on Mondays & Wednesdays but little or no jazz otherwise. Nights tend to be cheaper here and you're likely to see a mixture of pop, funk, blues, latin and on some nights unsigned bands across a range of genres. The decor is inspired by downstairs, and on the non-jazz nights it's more suited to walk-ins. Some nights are better than others so check the listings outside or online. Just as a variety of special guests are likely to pop-in for a jam on the late show downstairs, quite often musicians of note rock up out of the blue to jam upstairs. **** * Soul, funk, smooth jazz, acid jazz & blues artists also appear.

Yelp
Took some friends to see Ray Gelato. I'd seen him before elsewhere. I won't see him again after this. We paid £45 a ticket - not including food or drink. Expensive but - it's Xmas! This was my first time at Ronnie Scott's. It looks great inside. The food we had was decent enough but expensive for what it was. Wine was ok. Table service was very good. But, here's the thing. It's Xmas and you're going to see a foot-tapping 'fun' swing/jazz band - not serious music in the slightest - and yet the atmosphere was very dull. It's hard to have a fun time here. No talking at all during the music. No dancing. So, effectively, you have to sit and listen. This is totally acceptable with serious artists but not at Xmas with Ray Gelato! You want to have fun and let your hair down a bit. To confuse matters Ray himself invited guests to get up and dance later on. But after 2 mins people were asked to sit down!! Terrible. But, the piece de resistance came from the man himself. Having already made a couple of pithy comments to guests who were shouting praise (!!??) he then publicly chastised a young lady who'd clearly had a drink or two. He claimed she'd used an expletive in a private exchange with him and broadcast to the entire audience his thoughts on the matter. Extremely unprofessional behaviour from him. The evening was 'ok'. But it could have been 10/10 if the venue and Ray had relaxed and just encouraged everyone to have a good time. But, no festive cheer here, I'm afraid. A real shame.

Yelp
After an early dinner elsewhere, we came in from the rain to find Samba lessons in full swing, led by the most enthusiastic dance instructor this side of the Atlantic. It really got the sparse crowd into a festive mood, and set the tone for the great Brazilian jazz group that would follow. We found a table in the back, were sip Chivas while listening to the music. I'm sure the crowd and experience will vary based on who is playing, but for us it was a really nice experience. And, yes, it is fantastically expensive.

Yelp
Yeh, this is the most stylish club I've ever been in. Very classy. Excellent music. Quite an affluent feel to the place. Sort of like a night club for grown ups. Next time I'd like to sit at one of the tables in front of the band and sample the food. Most of the people there seem to be really musically educated. Unfortunately we sat just in front of a couple who talked throughout most of the performance, clearly they were there just becuase it was a cool club, not becuase they wanted to hear the music. Can't blame the venue for that though. As it's such a mature crowd, and such an upmarket feeling place, I felt that people were quite reserved about dancing. Mostly the happy punters just swayed in their chairs, whilst a few near the bar got a little more down to it. Could be just the night we went though. Will definately be going again.

Yelp
Love this place. I've visited twice now (Ben Wendel Quartet and Elew). Both acts were fantastic but the venue itself is wonderful. I love the intimacy of the venue and the acts are complimented by the atmosphere and warm decor. The venue attracts an eclectic crowd and it was interesting to see people of all ages (from late teen up to early 80s) sharing a passion for music. The staff are very welcoming and professional, and the food and drinks are pretty decent too.

Yelp
I really felt like I was stepping inside a film set when I first visited Ronnie Scottts, It really was like nothing I have ever experienced before, there is a really speical ombiance that feels really magical, the jazz singer that was there that night was spectacular! The wine was amazing and I had a brilliant night.

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere and a very sophisticated venue! The bands that played were awesome and we enjoyed every beat of their music. The food was tasty and the drinks very good; I had the crab cake and a champagne cocktail.

Yelp
I would give more stars if this was just a general venue but for what it is, I have to go lower. I bought a ticket for my friend as a birthday gift and expected something amazing since everyone is talking about this venue as the oldest coolest jazz club in London but unfortunately, you pay a sky high price for the ability to say 'Yeah, I went there'. As other reviewers mentioned, there is NO DANCING. In a jazz club. Also, to be able to sell big amounts of overpriced tickets, you will be seated in tiny spaces next to each other which uncomfortable already and for eating it's just a disaster. And why would I want to eat while listening to some grooves anyway? Food is meh, wine can help you get through your suffering. Go once, just to experience how horrible it is and tell all your friends about it, so they will have to lower their prices and make it great again.

Yelp
Went for a late night show, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Music was great, though of course, it also depends on who's playing that evening. In our case, it was a Japanese American jazz artist, who brought with him a splash of my past in NYC, so I really appreciated it. I enjoyed the concept of being able to order drinks at our table whilst watching the show as well. Helped make the evening a nice combination of catching a performance whilst sipping on drinks and catching up with a friend -- instead of just sitting still only for the show. The club is situated in a relatively lively part of Soho, so it's very convenient to pop by other places before or after. In our case, I tried out London's best cappuccino in the Italian cafe across the street and absolutely loved it. Am going back to this place tonight, in fact, and I'm looking forward to it.

Yelp
We were in the Club on Thursday night to see Ruby Turner, which was a fantastic experience. The great thing is that because it isn't a large venue, you are always in a good position to see the act and it feels very intimate. We also took the opportunity to have a meal while we were there. The food itself was of reasonable quality, and I managed to find a bottle of red that didn't break the bank, however the service could be a little more attentive. They were quick to sort out drinks, but we did have to ask for a menu for the food. But, at the end of the day, it is a Jazz Club and you do go for the musical experience firstly, which was fantastic, and they don't expect you to leave after the act finishes, as there is more music afterwards until the early hours. Its not a cheap night out, but it is enjoyable. So, in conclusion, if you are looking for some relaxing musical entertainment, then you should give this a shot.

Yelp
What can you say? It's Ronnie Scott's. It's a legendary bar for a reason. The music was top drawer (Ravi Coltrane) and the venue is stunning. I only wish I could have roamed around and looked at all the old framed pictures. I docked it a star because it is bloody expensive.

Yelp
This review is limited only to the Ruby Sings bi-monthly event upstairs. The seating is comfortable, the service is efficient and good, and the staff is pleasant. The quality of the performers was outstanding. We were seated in the rear of the room to the side and could not see, but several of us got up from the table to go watch because it was so good. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Sunday lunch time jazz to celebrate my husband's birthday with some good friends. The Prosecco was delicious (and they frosted the glasses) and the music was fabulous - Kai Hoffman had a great voice and was very entertaining. The waiters were so helpful and attentive. A really enjoyable afternoon.

Yelp
Ronnie Scott's is a legendary Soho jazz venue and this year, it celebrates its 50th birthday. You can check which acts will be playing from the website or from the board outside. The musical spectrum runs from Oscar Peterson to salsa with even some funk thrown in. What can be fun are the jam sessions on Wednesday evenings. The place had a major facelift in 2007 which coincided with an upgrade in the food. Nowadays, you can get sophisticated fare such as grilled squid with mango & chilli salsa for starter and pan fried fillet of beef for main. This legendary venue deserves its reputation

Yelp
It's pricey, it incurred the wrath of devotees with a brutal sweeping aside of its 1960s-period interior in 2007. But it still deserves five stars. Why? Because for classy jazz venues that walk the walk, there's little else to touch it in London. I saw UK singer Clare Martin here, whose extraordinary performance quickly left me running out of superlatives to remark in awed tones to my friends. The crowd are archetypal jazz fans, loudly applauding solos, nodding appreciatively at individual passages of the music, tapping their feet and generally losing themselves in the music. The original decor may have been dispensed with, but its replacement ain't bad. The seating is divided into a large space for tables and chairs directly in front of the stage, with tiered rows of seats along the sides. The bar is pricey, no doubt. One of the guys in my party was shocked to discover that the round of G&Ts that he'd generously got the rest of us had been charged at £15 a G&T. Ouch. But it probably was the best G&T I'd have had for a very long time, perhaps ever. So. Expensive, yes. A frequent destination for your jazz fix? Probably not. But when you want to treat yourself to top-quality jazz in very classy surroundings? Ronnie Scotts is definitely the place to come.

Yelp
My cousin and I travel a lot for work and every now and then our paths cross. On one trip to the UK, I called my cousin to see where he was in the world--and he was in the same hotel as me in Reading--two floors up. What a trip, so we decide we needed to celebrate. Mike suggested we drive into London and go to a Jazz club he frequented a lot when in lived there. First memorable thing--he made me drive into London and I had never before driven on the opposite side of road--nor shifted gears with my left hand--he of course rented a car with a standard shift--ass. I only hit the curb 5 times and just about turned the wrong way into round about, but we did arrive in one piece. I was glad I drove in because I got to drink a few of the wonderful whiskeys they serve at Ronnie Scotts. Balvenie 25--cannot go wrong. The Jazz trio playing was local and fantastic. The trumpet player was definitely channeling Miles Davis and the feel of the club just fit the mood. The cover nor the drinks were cheap so the clientele is not a young rowdy type for sure. Yes, we were shushed a few times--hey we were catching up. The overall experience was fabulous. I will go back--once the value of the dollar improves--so that means I have plenty of time to save up.

Yelp
Downstairs - If you're looking for something to do. Here is ok. Depends on who's playing that night. Seating is alright. Food is not so great. The serving staff doesn't speak english very well or maybe she couldn't hear. Book ahead for weekends definitely. The crowd although mixed was a bit older. Upstairs - I like this space infinitely more. You're up close with the musicians if you want to be or you can chill in the corner on comfortable velvety sofas. Sipping wine, listening to Blues. I wish I was there already.

Yelp
Came here to see Doc and Jean Carne. This is a fantastic music venue - warm, inviting, with great acoustics. With the way the seating and tables are on risers, it's basically impossible to have a "bad" seat. Although we didn't order dinner (the food passing by our table looked delicious), we did get a couple of very good cocktails. Friendly service and great atmosphere - certainly worth a visit.

Yelp
Okay, I haven't been here in 19 years, but I want to show Yelp London some love. This was my favorite spot for a night out in 1990, when jazz was a much younger music form. (That's a joke, kids.) Seriously though, jazz clubs the world over have a way of disappearing, and this joint has been around for 50 years, and they attract all the top musicians, so kudos to them for just existing for so long. And it's a great venue. In all likelihood, you're going to pay a little more to be in here, but it's just the right size, just the right lighting, and if I could afford it when I was a wee lad (albeit while skipping lunch & dinner) then you can do the same.

Yelp
Ima give this baby 5 stars As you approach the doors that is guarded by tall men dressed in black and white suits be prepared to be greeted with charming smiles. As you enter, take a look at the comfortable candle lit tables and booths. Its like a 1950's film set, all that is missing is a lit cigar. I had the pleasure of listening to the Dennis Rollins Badbone & Co. play live at Ronnie Scotts. Listening to them play note by note and beat by beat sends chills down my spine. They played dirty son! If you are a jazz lover be prepared to be blown away... another plus, there is a cab office next door...incase you get carried away with those scotch on the rocks

Yelp
A lot of people have reviewed this place, and that is no coincidence. I can write pages about what makes this place good but I guess it can be best summarised that it allows you to immerse yourself in another world. This place is like the 3D cinema of Jazz Clubs, not that it is the only good Jazz club in the word, but it definitely ticks all the boxes. A very cosy venue, good service, great artists, nice drinks...you get the feeling you are sat in your living room and the artist is doing a privet show only for you and your friends. In fact last time I went for a first date to that place my date got a bit annoyed that I got so immersed in the act that forgot to keep eye contact and say how pretty she is :)...well she was pretty, and even though I blew it you should still go and check it out, if you already haven't. I have never tried the food there but they do good cocktails and have a good selection of whiskeys, which is enough to keep most of us happy. After checking out the Jazz club then try the bar/club upstairs for some live music and recently some good Ds from Jazz FM...well worth a visit.

Yelp
Last night I attended the upstairs bar at Ronnie Scott's. As a musician and avid music lover I am always excited to visit legendary establishments that showcase amazing talent. So often in the world of clubs, especially if the place is "hot" the customer is treated so disrespectfully by everyone from the doorman to the bouncers, the coat check staff to the ticket admission desk, to the "welcoming" ticket taker.hand stamper at the door. And that's BEFORE you go stand in a mosh pit 3 deep to try to garner a libation from a surly bartender. Well I'm overjoyed to announce that my experience last night at Ronnie Scott's was EVERYTHING and nothing but DELIGHTFUL. SO great in fact, that I could not stop myself from commenting in this forum. We arrived quite late, towards the end of the night. When everyone could have rightfully so been "over us". But from the doorman who respectfully did his job at the door. Inquiring of my intent very calmly and kindly, allowing us entrance gracefully inviting us to check our coats and belongings at the coat check. To the staff member who saw us waiting at the coat check desk and immediately stopped what he was doing and stepped in to assist us in checking our items, as the person in charge had stepped a way for a moment. He didn't say, "please wait, the Attendent wil be right back" or tell us To wait while he ran around to find a manager, No, he just stepped in and took care of us. We walked up the stairs and the gentlemen stamped our hands with smile and when we asked where the bar was, (and it happened to be in plain sight, as newcomers we just didn't see it) he didn't snap at us, or look at us like we were crazy, he nicely pointed to the bar, as if we hadn't just asked the most annoying question he must get asked 100 times a night and calmly said "right that way, Sir." Yes, the bat mosh pit was three deep. But when we got to the bar, our barman was incredibly calm, professional and patient with our drink order. Have us a suggestion for a cocktail, waited kindly while my friend made her selection, made our drinks calmly and professionally, taking time and care even with the huge mount of people waiting. He said my name and acknowledged me when he took my credit card details. I asked him his name he said "Christopher" I stood by the bar for the next hour or so, and he often looked up at us, whenever his line subsided and would ask if we were alright or needed anything. I tell you I have never had such a wonderful experience and been treated so kindly and nicely as I was last night by the staff and team at Ronnie Scott's. Bravo to all the management. For leadership definitely comes from the top. And the people there are top notch in customer service. Thank you especially to the kind staff member who stepped in to check our costs, bags, and flowers (!) our fantastic barman Christopher. Oh and did I forget to mention that the music was incredible! Fantastic singers, showcasing great originals and classics, a killer band made up of various uber talented cats stepping in and out. Everything you expect from Ronnie Scott's. With no attitude. What a night! What a pleasure. Thank you Ronnie Scott's.

Yelp
Good band upstairs. drinks were pricey, but cover charge was reasonable. PPlace wasn't too crowded the night i went. The band played 2 sets, only stayed for the first set. they were hyping a special guest, but I have no idea who it was or could've been. The cover charge was reasonable when I went in, but they warned me that it was going up if I came later.

Yelp
Now this is a lovely Jazz venue in London, if you are a Jazz fan check it out! Intimate venue, just like in the movies! It's not cheap, but no good experience is. I went there a few years back when it was one set all night long. I have to admit, I fell asleep. I mean, I was sitting there from 7pm till 2am, ate a steak dinner and had some wine, this is a recipe for a snooze for me..sorry ;-( But now! they have split the sets into 2! So you can go to the early set or the late one! Result!! Oh I have heard that students (not sure if only music) can buy tickets for £10 or £20 (can't remember exactly how much) and can stand at the back to watch a set. This is good value!

Yelp
Jazz....................thinking of it takes me back into the classic 40's. I sometimes wish I could be part of that age for a while. Listening to live music at Ronnie Scotts does give you a little bit of the dream. Its a relatively small place with stepped comfortable seating, dimly lit small table lamps to brighten your food and drink. They have a well trained polite service staff. This legendary jazz place has become part of the city of London for many years now. And its relatively newly furbished. Its never too crowded unless someone big from the Apple decided to show up. Reservations are to be made by phone. They also have a cloakroom at the entrance and a pleasant receptionist is always there to say hello. I hope you visit this place and see some real talented british artists.

Yelp
How does nobody seem to know about this place?! Hidden up a discreet staircase to the left of the main Ronnie Scott's jazz bar, we passed a ton of bars bursting with people and were surprised to find this one was all but empty on a Friday at 6.30pm (though filled up whilst we were in there). Four of us slid into one of the black velvet booths, most of which had reserved signs for later in the eve. It looked like it was set up for live music later too but sadly we'd disappeared for a feed by then - will have to go again! Luckily we did stick around for a couple of rounds of cocktails - a decent old fashioned and a whisky sour later and I was pretty happy. It was table service too so the perfect spot for chilled out Friday drinks and jokes, without elbow wars and waiting at the bar. Not somewhere I'd spend the whole night, but it's a nice spot and something different for early eve drinks or late night for the music.

Yelp
The original and still the best jazz club in London. Recently had a much-needed renovation that has unfortunately been refelected in the new prices. However, it does look a whole lot better and the biggest names in both contemporary and traditional jazz keep rolling in. The food leaves a lot to be desired and London's no-smoking policy in bars means none of that smokey haze usually associated with a long lazy night of jazz. But who cares when the line-ups sound this good? Go, relax. drink and enjoy.
