Ronnie’s - Review - Marylebone - London - The Infatuation

"For anyone whose dream day looks a little bit like grazing on matzo ball soup, doing a spot of shopping for the ideal ‘nocturnal navy’ hoodie, pausing for a spicy margarita, bit more shopping, and finishing strong with pastrami on challah, New York-inspired bistro Ronnie’s is for you. It’s inside the Kith store on Regent Street, and also has its own entrance." - Sinéad Cranna

Disappointing experience overall. Despite informing staff we had a booking, we were ignored by the host for around half an hour—they thought we were waiting for coffee. No one handed us the menu, we had to reach for it from the counter. Staff clearly need better training. The only positive was the barista, who was friendly and made great coffee, Don Burger was good.

Our first visit to Ronnie’s and we came away with good first impressions. There’s room for improvement, but I got the feeling they were keen to hear feedback and take suggestions on board. In summary: I think they should lean more into the NYC dining theme to set it apart from other better priced places in London. - - - We had a brunch reservation, and the waiting staff were quick to take care of us and seat us at our table. Ronnie’s promises NYC style dining so we went for the American Breakfast and Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Sandwich, with a side of fries. Originally we were hoping to try the brisket sandwich we’d seen online, but strangely that’s only on the dinner menu. With the American Breakfast you have a choice of eggs, and I’d recommend picking scrambled – they were buttery smooth and perfectly cooked. The hash browns were also a highlight – just the right amount of crunch on the outside, and soft on the inside. Sausages were a bit too small, and we needed to ask for butter for the toast. The BEC sandwich comes on an American-style biscuit, which for us Brits is basically a large scone. It was a nice change from the usual brioche bun, and I’d visit again just to have it. It comes with two spicy dunking dips. The fries are actually what you’d expect to see called chunky chips elsewhere. They were cooked well but I was hoping for the more NY style thin cut french fries. For drinks we went with a Bloody Mary (not on the menu but they made one for us and it was delicious) and the Rose Espresso Martini (the rose flavour won’t be to everyone’s taste so I’d probably leave it out in the future). What lets the drinks down is the price. At £20-23 you’re paying a good £5 more than elsewhere in London, with nothing special setting them apart to justify the price.

The soup - £20 Blend, more like a broth not a soup. The Matzoh ball its self was nice but nothing real special. Over all for the price of £20 i thought it could do better. Or be better. Food Temp - warm & acceptable but could have been probed to have a warmer temp. Would not have again. Don burger - £30 The burger banged from the first bite. Perfect seasoned and the cooking to Mid Rare done perfectly. Fries were a let down; as if it’s a chunky we call it chips over here. So I did wish the fries were skinny or at least informed. Food temperature - all perfect Would come back for this with friends and colleagues. Sauces with the burgers 3 of them Food Temp - cold like it came out the fridge. Would have been nice more room temp. None popped out at me really. White one I think maybe with garlic was dope. Spicy ketchup wasn’t saying much, didn’t bring the vibe from NY. Saffron mayo was “iight” but still nothing special. Mac & Cheese - £11 Very basic, over cooked pasta, soft as butter… nothing special there. Would not order this again unless the recipe was changed. NY CHEESECAKE W/ strawberry compote Would bring a date for this! And share it as it’s enough for 2 people. Could do with strawberry compote also but regardless it banged it took me back home. Wine 🍷 2025 - smooth (waiter was right) good house red. 2022 French intense as the French I know I am one but beautiful, bold. Only let down was you can only choose from 125 ml or bottle. So I tired 2 different wines which was nice as well. I left full. I did drink a bottle of sparkling water all to myself san pelle 750ml as I’m not sure they had smaller bottle awkward…. In conclusion, Service was relatively good; the waiter whom looked after me was well experienced. Food that I had apart from soup & mac n cheese banged! Bill came to over £130 for 3 course, 2 small wine glasses and a side… including 15% service charge high but normal rates in NY, but we’re in London 12.5% would of made more sense. Was it worth, yes for the burger. Was it pricey, yes. But if you can afford it it’s why not treat yourself.

i’m a big fan of what Ronnie Fieg does and happy to see his commitment to London, otherwise the rating would’ve been 2/5. i can tell it’s their first ever restaurant and hopefully it’ll be an uphill from here. the quality of food was mediocre whilst using expensive ingredients, ie cold (fried) mozzarella with caviar on top. after spending ~450, you feel that disparity between what you had and what you paid. i was excited to try pastrami sandwich, hoping to get something remotely similar to Katz in nyc, but it was nowhere near. it’s a high bar but that’s what you expect when you go to new york inspired restaurant, by one of the most new york people out there. interior is nice, but feels a bit unfinished. it’s brasserie style without character and story (what makes brasserie a brasserie), for example there’s a lot of stock pictures of new york but nothing about Ronnie (person the restaurant was named after).
