The 2022 Chicago Gourmet Hamburger Hop Winner Came From O’Hare | Eater Chicago

"I watched a sold-out crowd on Friday, September 23 pack the Harris Rooftop Theater at Millennium Park for the Hamburger Hop, a 15-chef cooking competition; the in-person People’s Choice returned after pandemic years with attendees voting by dropping Blue Moon bottle caps into buckets at chefs’ tables, and even Mayor Lori Lightfoot appeared to praise restaurateurs, saying, “Every time I come to this event, it gets better and better and better,” and urging support so restaurants can grow and fill seats." - Sam Nelson

Yelp
What a fun experience but I recommend waiting until it cools off a lot; the sun was brutal. The doors didn't open until 6:30 PM, but there was already a long line. I paid for a chair with a foot rest and unlimited popcorn; seating is first come first serve. The popcorn was tasty but a bit stale; the beverages were cold. Not sure why they chose to not sell waters at their bar; you have to wait in another line for it. I suggest getting water when you pick up your headphones and popcorn. The restrooms are quite a distance from the rooftop and signage is sparse. Get there early!

Yelp
The ambiance of the rooftop lobby was absolutely beautiful! The staff at the box office, chow & sip areas were very friendly & helpful! The rooftop offers aesthetically pleasing seating areas perfect for photos ops as well as games to play prior to your showing. The show started right on time! Parking was conveniently available in the Worthington Renaissance hotel parking garage. We appreciated the parking validation which reduced the price of parking to $10. We truly enjoyed our experience and would love to come back very soon! TIP: If you're going to a 7:45p showing, you may want to bring sunglasses and a portable fan to hold you over until the sun sets.

Yelp
We had such a fun time. The parking and entrance were very easy to navigate. There is a parking garage across the street from the Jimmy John's. The doors opened on time and the staff were pleasant but unable to answer many questions. The seating was great and very comfortable. The food was lacking. There wasn't much variety and zero options for vegans. I would plan to eat before or after. It was a lot of fun watching a movie on the roof top of a building. Very unique concept, we plan to return. I really enjoy their movie options.

Yelp
The best date night idea... my Fiancé and I went here and we are so excited to go back. She was the one who found it and we loved it. It's such a unique fun experience and the way they set it all up made for an even better experience. Plenty of places to take cute pictures. They have food, drinks, etc for you and it's all a walking distance to the downtown area.

Yelp
Went on a Sunday night to watch White Chicks. It was a nice vibe ans it wasn't hot at all which made it even nicer. They had a variety of snacks and drink items but the popcorn was stale.

Yelp
Went to an early afternoon movie and we enjoyed it. Only hope might be to have options for shade on sunny days like covers attached to the chairs that wouldn't interfere with the view of someone sitting behind you. Muffins and mimosas were included with this particular ticket but wouldn't say it's worth the extra money. Concession prices were in line with what you might expect at a theater. Overall it was a nice experience and we'll probably do it again sometime.

Yelp
Such a fun and unique way to do movie night! Solid 4.5 stars! We got premium tickets for the 7:30 PM dog-friendly screening of Practical Magic. The seats were worth it for the central location and footrests, and the couches were super comfy. The headphones made it easy to hear the movie, and I loved that I could bring my dog--she was very comfortable! Biggest issue: the popcorn. Though it was unlimited, it was very stale, so we didn't get more. I'd choose a different snack next time. TL;DR: Great experience, comfy seats, dog-friendly screenings, but stale popcorn.

Yelp
It was a little challenging to find only because we walked and didn't realize it was part of a hotel that doesn't seem to be in use. Other than that - lovely evening. Chairs and headsets were comfortable. We opted for the deal with popcorn and was disappointed the popcorn was stale .. like seemed to be like a week old. Little pricey we felt but overall ok as an experience. For the package deal- could have just added one small drink, then try to upsell .. just a suggestion.

Yelp
Looking for a super cute girls night or date night idea? Rooftop Cinema Club has done just that! They have created a beautiful (And Instagram worthy if that's your thing) space for you to mingle, grab food and drinks (they have alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks), and great area to sit and watch the movie of your choice. I had been seeing FB ads for this place so I talked a date into dating me there. although it's definitely not cheap (our loveseat seats cost $23 each and my drinks were $12 each), the ambiance was definitely worth it. They did run out of the spiced rum early in the night though so I had to settle for Bacardi. You can bring your own blanket if you want; I brought a jacket just in case. You can park in the hotel garage downstairs and they will validate for you so you only pay $10. The only downside is the exterior noise of the cars below with loud exhaust or the church bells chiming behind us. I think that's why they provide headphones so you can tune it out! It was a great way to spend an evening and I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
So fun!! Rooftop Cinema Club is the ideal spot for a date. We enjoyed it so much that we didn't care that it was cold and sprinkling on us. (We are in our 50's and out after 9pm; this says a lot. lol) They have several fun snacks to choose from and lots of liquids. The place is clean and the chairs are comfortable. What more does one need for a movie under the stars? We'll be back!

Yelp
Went here on a date to see 50 first dates. Super cute ambiance and the loveseats were comfortable. 10/10 will go back! Staff was friendly as well and the panini was delish.

Yelp
The food served there is decent !! So if you be your date don't have time to eat don't worry ! Service is always great, staffs super friendly and helpful! The ambiance is perfect for the outdoor intimate setting

Yelp
Reserving the area 100'from theater is rude. Music at that partywas too loud, even with headphones. 1st time her3, disappointed

Yelp
I would highly recommend you use a different venue for a private event or group celebration. This is venue is very corporate and not personal or genuine. You just get flooded with automated emails. They need to update their site and not have a group tickets option.

Yelp
What a pleasure to spend with friends and a movie for my birthday. Loved the experience. There isn't thing they have left out : drinks, popcorn, food, and games. Parking is even discounted! Great for date nights. If you are looking for your refill of popcorn, their staff is roaming and available to help. Thank you for the adventure RooftopCinema! - kae

Yelp
My husband and I had a date night here and watched Dirty Dancing. It's a neat concept where you can purchase individual tickets or a loveseat (a chair for 2). They have a concession stand with popcorn, drinks (alcohol as well) and other food. We had dinner beforehand so we just got some popcorn and sodas. They give you each a headset when you arrive. You put them on to hear the movie. Seating is first come first serve as well. It's outdoors so plan accordingly. It had been raining earlier so we brought a towel and blanket just in case. We needed it because the seats were damp and needed to be wiped off. It sprinkled rain during the movie but unless it's storming, the show goes on as they say. We'd like to come back to enjoy the game area next time. Overall, it is a great concept and a unique way to see movies. The view is pretty great of downtown Fort Worth.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this place. It's great place to go for a date night or with a couple friends. I went to see Home Alone 2 on a Sunday evening and it was really cool. Depending on where you enter the hotel it can be hard to find the rooftop but once you do it definitely doesn't feel like the top of a building. Because you are on the roof, dress for the weather- it was extremely cold ( even with blankets. The screen is large enough to see no matter where you sit and you get to choose where you sit depending on what type of seat you purchased ( individual Adirondack or seating for two). They sell little snacks like popcorn and candy but nothing that's heavy or will fill you up. Everyone has headphones that play the sound simultaneously. The headphones were clean, comfortable, and the sound was excellent. Rooftop cinema will also validate most of your parking if you park in the hotel parking garage. I really enjoyed this place and will definitely be back in the summer.

Yelp
First experience and couldn't get over how amazing it was. Only issue was accessibility, a little confusing to find but nothing that was terribly difficult.
google avatar

Miranda D.

Yelp
Absolutely LOVE this place! I surprised my bf by taking him to see his favorite movie (The Princess Bride)! We went to the matinee show so the sun was a bit of a bother but that's literally my only complaint. The movie was amazing, the snacks were great, the people were nice and EXTREMELY helpful, and it's just such a beautiful place to spend a few hours at!
google avatar

Bariche R.

Yelp
The rooftop cinema is the place to go for couples, for girls night, for guys night, for it all. There are a selection of old school movies on the website to choose from. It's such a vibe and there are drinks and snacks as well. It was so much fun and I will definitely be coming back.

Zoe W.

Yelp
Do NOT purchase anything but standard seating... they charge you upwards of $60 for a "loveseat"...they're all fucking lawn chairs!! If we would have known that we wouldn't have PAID for a loveseat! Ridiculous and disappointing.
google avatar

Calli C.

Yelp
Tickets are $75 for 2 people which doesn't include parking which will run you another $10. You also can't get around the $9 convenience fee by purchasing tickets in person and must buy them online. There were several heaters placed in between seats but majority were not turned on. When we asked an employee if they could be turned on, we were simply told no they can not and dismissed as she turned to her coworker and they both made a face. Overall the experience was very disappointing.
google avatar

LeShea B.

Yelp
Pricey. But I guess you're paying for the experience. Paid for the upgraded seats in the middle. Adirondack love seats. Wouldn't do that again necessarily. $26.50 per ticket. (Come with free popcorn) I think I paid around $60 for tickets after taxes. We watched "The Wood" which is a movie from way back when. We FINALLY got a parking spot (it was free on the street) and found the venue. We didn't know where we were going. Just followed the crowd of black People You could take some alright photos up there. The rooftop is maybe two small flights of stairs upwards. Not really high at all. You're given headphones and popcorn and you take your seat. Headphones have to be on full time to watch the movie. The screen is silent when movie is playing (not beforehand though) I hung one off my ear to be more aware of my surroundings. Drinks were like $9-10. We got the canned drinks, as the margaritas weren't available I would try to see if they rain a special or something. That was too pricey for the experience, to me, especially when sundown at the Granada has free movies on Tuesday in Dallas. Would I go back? Probably at a later time with a newer movie if a friend paid.
google avatar

Mariska D.

Yelp
The location was cute. We had fun overall, but I definitely recommend looking at the temperature for outside!!! Also the Loveseat was not worth it. Its the same seats just together. Save your money! Texas heat was not kidding. There is no shade whatsoever for seats unless you want to sit in the very back by the green hedged fence.

Yelp
Went here and the people next to us were smoking some illegal stuff & ruined the whole experience, we had to leave early but unfortunately took us a while to get out of it. wouldnt reccomen

Savannah C.

Yelp
My boyfriend bought tickets for Deadpool and Wolverine for Feb 2 a week in advance and got the confirmation email and everything with no issues. We show up and as he's pulling up the tickets it said cancelled. We get to the door and there's a whole other company having a work dinner where the cinema is. No cancelation email or anything. I don't mind that it got cancelled but we drove all the way there and had to pay to park as well. Should've sent an email letting us know that the movie was going to be cancelled. Luckily he got ticket protection and his money back but we were very disappointed that we didn't get a warning, especially since it was our plans for my birthday.

Yelp
Had an amazing time watching "Love Jones" on the rooftop! Such a cool set up, and vibe! Lots of cute photo opportunities and popcorn refills (for those that purchase). Drinks and food available for purchase as well. All the workers were very kind, efficient, and friendly. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
I've been a huge fan of Rooftop Cinema Club since I started going in Houston years ago. Since moving to the DFW, I've been waiting for it to open again out here. The Fort Worth location is so beautiful! They have all the signature floral decor and IG Worthy spots. They have games everywhere literally. So you can play with your date or friends before the movie starts. This location also has drinks and bar food on top of the usual popcorn and candy. The margarita on top was strongggg but good. Only downside is it's kinda small for the price. The movie experience itself is so fun! You get your own set of headphones and a pretty comfortable seat. They even play music in the headphones before the movie so you can a little lit and dance. All of the staff were very kind overall too. I recommend the rooftop to anybody looking to do something fun this spring whether it's a date, girls night out, or family night out.

Yelp
We love love love the rooftop cinema club! Great ambiance and unlimited popcorn. Perfect for date night.

Yelp
Very nice and easily accessible.. great date night.. walk Sundance and the chill on a weekend night watch a movie then a few steps from some bars to end the night.. hotel room right there as well :)

Yelp
This was a cool experience. Rooftop movie we watched Grease my childhood favorite. Screen quality was great , seating was not so great but it wasn't horrible. The lounge area had games on tables, ping pong table , bar, small food it was great.. we played ping ping mostly lol . Drink selection was ok food was just ok the pretzels looked amazing . All in all not a bad experience. I personally do not like head phones and that's what we needed to hear. That made it difficult to chit chat with your partner and got hot and sweaty so I had to remove mine leaving me unable to enjoy the movie till I put them back on . I would definitely do this again in the cooler seasons .
google avatar

Grace O.

Yelp
So much fun! Perfect for a simple fare and movie date specially on a warm spring day like yesterday. Bring a blanket to be more comfy! The headsets help you get lost in the movie.
google avatar

Yelp
Very nice setup! Such a cute place, me and my wife really like the ambience, perfect view of downtown!

Yelp
Love this venue! It was adorable! We had a blast. Will definitely come again! I can't wait for Dog night to bring my sweet pup.

Yelp
If you're looking for the perfect date night spot- THIS IS IT! I'm not sure it can't get better than this! Rooftop Cinema offers a great view from any chair you're seating on, snacks and eats AND drinks! (Both alcoholic and non alcoholic) if it's cold outside, please feel free to free to bring in your blankets or pillows to keep you warm and comfy! As soon as you check in- you are provided with your headphones (think of it like a silent disco) and can purchase your drinks or food at that time. Amazing service plus they have a few yrs games for you to play if you want to get there earlier! You can park in the hotel (valet parking) for a small fee OR use street parking! Don't forget to read the pay meter to avoid any potential parking tickets :)

Ann E.

Yelp
I can second the review about not being able to talk to anyone for a group outing. Forget speaking to anyone. you receive an automated response, and then email not even attemping to help.
google avatar

Kezia M.

Yelp
Would highly recommend and would go again! Unlimited popcorn, great audio (noise cancelling headphones) and classic movies to choose from. I wish there was a Dallas location but the drive is worth it. Board games and snacks available. Drinks can get pricey ($5 for a soda)-regular theater prices. Paid around $50 for two people to sit together. Staff is very friendly and the ambiance speaks for itself. Bring blankets if you're going in the evening!

clarissa r.

Yelp
So cute! And fun way to have a little date night . Chairs are comfy . Come early to get good seating

Andres M.

Yelp
Amazing experience! Really cool place to go on a date or with friends! Do bring blankets if it's during cold weather. I really enjoyed the experience.

Chris M.

Yelp
This place is great. Great food, drink and atmosphere. From the time you get walk onto the rooftop, you know it's gonna be a great time. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

Jenna N.

Yelp
This is such a fun date idea! The location was great. I loved the free popcorn, table games, and friendly staff. Highly recommend!

Katie F.

Yelp
This was our first time here and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Such a great atmosphere and wonderful date night spot!

Karla H.

Yelp
Great vibes and very picturesque. Recommend the loveseats. The popcorn was blah didn't like but overall awesome girls night, mom daughter date, and date night!

Jessica S.

Yelp
Such a fun idea. My kids loved it! Drinks were really good. My only complaint is kids aren't allowed after 4:30. That's silly. Hopefully they change that soon.
