This place was amazing! We did go at noon on Sunday without a reservation, but was still able to be seated for dining at the bar. Very cool and relaxed boho vibe. We ordered some coffee drinks and a freshly squeezed orange juice to start with. Entrees were the Salmon scramble, Goat cheese Gnocchi and the Chicken Liver on toasted crostini. If you like chicken livers at all, this was the absolute best I've ever had. The sauce was an excellent balance to the liver and it was cooked to perfection. Servers were on point, very friendly and attentive without being too much. This place is definitely a hidden gem and I can't recommend another local eatery better than this!

We met our friends here for dinner. They are 30+ year residents and live by the Plaza. They had never heard of Room 39, which been in my bookmarks for over a year. We were going to a show at MTH and decided to meet here for dinner beforehand. We snagged at 5 PM reservation a few days before and were greeted warmly on a hot summer afternoon by the host. Our server was Alex and she was magnificent beyond words. Her service and insight were magical. With the deft touch, she guided us through the menu and answered all of our questions. We will most certainly ask for Alex when we return. You may wish to do the same. You will not be disappointed. We had some delicious appetizers, including their tasty crabcakes, and the Room 39 salad was nice. Very fresh ingredients and not swimming and dressing. My wife had the steak au poivre, which I got a few bites of and it was delicious! I had the gnocchi with pesto cream sauce, which was divine. One of our friends enjoyed the pasta carbonara very much, and her husband loved the halibut. They shared crème brûlée for dessert and we had the chocolate mousse. All four of us loved our desserts. We recognize that Room 39 is on par with some of the finest restaurants in Kansas City. It’s a smaller venue, but their service is impeccable and so is the food. It’s a farm to table restaurant so the menu rotates and changes with the seasons and availability of ingredients. I love that! We will most certainly return.

I was a bit nervous about eating here after seeing some of the reviews. We were meeting old friends for the weekend and wanted a place for brunch for the 6 of us. We were seated right away and the service was great! The restaurant is pretty small but has a lot of personality and character. Plenty to choose from on the menu and no complaints from anyone. Great neighborhood with an amazing bookstore across the street and a lot of other interesting spots in the neighborhood. Looks like they also do lunch and dinner.

Loved this place! We decided to try Room 39 based on other reviews we read. It was well worth it. The atmosphere is romantic but relaxing. My wife loved the table settings. The service was very good. Very friendly and attentive. We both had the filet with scalloped potatoes and brussel sprouts. The steak was cooked perfectly and so flavorful. The scalloped potatoes were the best I've ever had. I can't believe it took us so long to try this place, but it won't be the last.

Great cozy lunch spot. We were welcomed by a friendly server. They have a really neat menu, a little something for everyone. The blended burger was amazing and the eggs and salmon did not disappoint.

I was sleep on Room39!!!! I was looking for a quick brunch after a long night and realizing I woke up too late from the daylight savings Spring Forward! I am notorious for googling new spots and throwing caution to the wind!!! Upon arrival I took note of the atmosphere which gave rustic meet distressed meet industrial warehouse someone lives upstairs type feel. We decided to belly up to the bar because what’s that expression about “hair of the dog?” The staff were attentive, communicative, friendly, and helpful when it came to their menu knowing we had never been before. Water was given immediately, drink orders taken, and the service was impeccable and timely, like within 8 mins of being seated timely! The food was hot, full of flavor, and beautiful presentation!!! I am always skeptical when I see such a great presentation because I brace myself in hopes that the flavors match and Room39 did not disappoint!!! I loved the artwork and the nice touch of Afred “Slick” Surrats portrait that hangs on the wall behind the bar. Of course I must come back for your dinner menu!!! Thank you for such a fabulous experience, you have no idea how much it meant to me!

We had a great anniversary dinner tonight! Our server was so kind, the atmosphere was nice, and our meals were delicious. I would absolutely come back for the Goat Cheese Gnocchi. Great wine selection as well!

Love everything about this place! It’s not very big so we usually book a reservation. We’ve tried several items from their menu on different visits and all of it has been delicious.

Yelp
Dining in this local spot which was popping. Started off good with our order taking promptly. My mimosa landed shortly thereafter and it was delicious. We waited patiently before noticing another table whom arrived after us getting served first with same entrees. Then ours came out : avocado toast & fruit cup and crab Benedict with side of potatoes - lukewarm. The toast was grilled a bit too long where it was tough and burned around the edges. My order was incorrect as I asked for over medium eggs vs poached. The waiters were all apologetic and offered new eggs and toast but we declined. It was already a long wait. Prevalent in my dish was panko breading of the crab cakes. The potatoes had a grill taste not much flavor either. We were grateful for the offering to correct things, comping the avocado toast and OJ upon getting our bill.

Yelp
Fine dining at its best. Cute little restaurant with amazing food from the appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts... you can't go wrong! Special occasion or just a nice meal out, a bit pricey, but the food is always fresh, seasonal, and impeccably prepared and presented. Make sure you get a reservation as the place is small. LOVE this restaurant!

Yelp
Phenomenal. Everything we ordered was delicious, the service was quick and friendly. We started with the tempura app and the crab cakes - both were savory, delicious, and texturally amazing. For entrees we got the pasta Bolognese (pasta tasted homemade, it was the perfect comfort food) and the halibut on crispy rice. My partner said it was some of the best fish he'd ever had. The bite I had was seasoned to perfection. Our dessert was also wonderful, we went with the creme brulee and berries and a white chocolate basil cremaux. The second dessert was highly recommended by our server and she was right. It was a wonderfully confusing mix of flavors, almost like a creamy dessert pesto but rich, sweet and bright.

Yelp
While this meal may look promising, the meat quiche was a bit of a disappointment. Everything from the texture, flavor, and crust of this quiche was mid and not something I would order again. The service was super welcoming and attentive - perhaps this item was just a bit of a flop.

Yelp
Food was fabulous Great small bistro right on 39th Server recommended the chicken livers and he was right Wonderful neighborhood gem!!!

Yelp
Came in on a slow Monday night and had exceptional service and food! I can't believe we haven't been here before! We ordered the brussel sorout toast and it was so yummy. The flavors went really well together. I stepped out of the box and got the Chorizo Crusted Cod and it did not disappoint! My husband got the steak (sirloin maybe? I have no idea lol) and it was cooked to his preference which is always important to us. The dessert was fun and funky. Only disappointment was the menu being a little different than the one online so I wasn't able to get something that sounded really good, but that didn't ruin anything and we just opted for something else! The price was very fair for the quality of food and service we received.

Yelp
I picked this restaurant based on reviews and intuition for a meeting with 2 friends I hadn't seen in far too long. What a perfect setting and brilliant meal we had. Turns out that our hostess/waitress and one of my friends knew each other which set the tone for a warm, friendly, happy meal. The service was impeccible; quick but not intrusive. And the food was utterly delicious. The crabcakes were amazing, the fries addictive and our entries wonderful. My first visit but certainly not my last.

Yelp
The restaurant offers great breakfast. The croque madame was pretty great! All the potatoes were tasted very crispy! We also ordered the steak Benedict, one of the eggs got overcooked, but overall the food was good.

Yelp
Food Salmon Scramble is a must-have! Service Excellent as always. Ambiance Cozy. Not very grand and will highly recommend that you arrive as early as possible. It fills up pretty quickly.

Yelp
Gosh it makes me sad to update my review. I was back after a year and absolutely craving my Room 39 biscuits and gravy. How sad of day it was. I drove 20 minutes from where I was staying during the only open time I had on my quick visit to the KC area. It was a Saturday and they were pretty full. Service was not as friendly or as attentive as it had been in the past. I didn't get a drink menu (or maybe they no longer have one? But, I did see others with iced coffee drinks which were not on the menu). I ordered biscuits and gravy and bacon. Unfortunately the gravy was actually room temperature and in some places cold. This is so disappointing because it has always been so good. Do they reheat it in a microwave? It was also very runny, nearly water consistency. Biscuits were fine, but room temperature. Bacon was HARD and also room temperature. My happy place became my depression palace. The food TASTED good, so I ate it. The waiter didn't return until I finished my meal and he kindly took $5 off my bill. Hopefully this is an off occurrence but I can't tell you how disappointed I was after making such an effort to eat here.

Yelp
I landed on Room 39 for brunch with out of town friends after reading several positive reviews on Yelp! Unfortunately, I didn't have the same experience of others. It took longer than I think it should have to be seated (I had a reservation). Once I was seated, it took the waitress several minutes to come to the table. My friends and I ordered our food, and it came out in a timely manner. I ordered the smoked salmon scramble with the breakfast potatoes. The scramble was alright, but nothing special. And the potatoes were bland, with no seasoning. My friends had the same experience, with none of us being wowed by our selections and agreeing that we were all missing flavor. The restaurant itself was nice and clean, with kind staff.

Yelp
The service and atmosphere were both very friendly and vibrant. Andrew made me feel right at home, and I was able to make a few trips here before I needed to fly back out. The food was superb. The duck in particular was rich and flavorful, and paired well with the crispy arborio rice and amarena mostarda. Definitely recommend getting that or the gnocchi if you visit.

Yelp
Room 39 feels like it was snatched up off the streets of a European city and nestled in KC - it exudes an eclectic, quiet elegance. Service is excellent and the crab cakes are to die for. Make reservations for busier date nights.

Yelp
My boyfriend was raving about this place and I kept my expectations at a reasonable level. But there was a reason why he raved about this place, this croque madame was one of the best I had! Coming from NY, the $14 price point blew my mind. You just don't find that here. The potatoes, if your dish doesn't have potatoes make sure to order the side! They were so crispy and reminded me of my favorite brunch spot in plow. This croque madame delivered! Generous portion of turkey and on it and the melted cheese with the buttered toast, perfection. I think every time I am in KC, I would need to go here!

Yelp
When I visit from Austin this is my home away from home. Great vibe. Great people. Sit at the bar or have a great get together. Outdoor seating on the sidewalk can be great if the sun is in the right spot.
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite brunch spot. I always get the Croquet Madam- soo so good. And the breakfast potatoes are also real crispy which is nice. Service is always good. Definitely get a Rez

Yelp
The ambience was amazing the attention to details in the restaurant were quite special. We went on a Monday night so it wasn't crowded at all. The staff was so friendly and personable. The food was so good and fresh and hot. The shared plates were so large and delicious. Pro tip go with friends everyone order something different and try a bite of everything you won't regret. Would go again!

Yelp
First we were greeted by a lovely hostess named Laurel, who also happened to be our server. She graciously seated us on a Wednesday night without a reservation. Our drinks, salads and entrees came out in a timely manner and were hot and delicious. Our experience on a cold night was made even nicer with a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Christy T.

Yelp
Steak and duck were both room temperature, sent back, came back still room temperature. Neither my husband or I had a meal. They took the meals off our bill, offered a free dessert that we had no interest in and wouldn't give us the leftover meat for our dog to keep it from just being thrown away. To sum it up, VERY limited menu, expensive, and NOT GOOD! There are MANY other better restaurants near by to spend your money at and not be disappointed.
google avatar

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
I think I ordered the wrong thing. I got the blended burger, which was suppose to be a mushroom, beet, and beef patty. It was just beef and it was over cooked. However, my espresso martini was boozy and perfect. The 2 people I was with both got the Croquet Madame with sunny side up eggs and they loved their meal.

Yelp
Stopped in here with family for brunch, we went based off of reviews and were certainly not disappointed! My daughter has some pretty serious food allergies and they were able to accommodate her quite readily and knowledgeabley! I had a craving for the breakfast burrito and the Chorizo Burrito with eggs, black beans, tomatillo salsa, crema and queso fresco was wonderful! Not too spicy and it just right to fill my tummy with my substitute of a waffle instead of home fries! The berry jam/topping complimented the syrup quite nicely! Everything had just the right amount of slight crispiness to it without being overcooked or underdone. The ambience was pretty hip from the decor to the music, and our reader was absolutely on top of everything! I am not a coffee drinker, but the aroma of coffee when you first walk in is super comforting, but not overpowering. There was something for each of us that we really enjoyed. The menu was varied but not too big so that you had some great options but weren't overwhelmed with your choices. The waiter was quite helpful in choosing what to order. Something I really liked about this place was that although the ambience was great we could actually hear each other when we were talking and enjoy each other's company. Definitely recommend the food, the place, and the location! Really cool spot!

Yelp
Our food and drinks were perfect! Hot afternoon late brunch and the delivered a great experience. The bartender, Andrew, was awesome in helping us pick out a perfect summer drink. Our server, Brett, was spot along with the menu. Try the Steak and eggs Benedict. It's good! I highly recommend this establishment!
google avatar

Becky L.

Yelp
We went to Room 39 for restaurant week on 1/12 and it was perfect! The food was delicious, the waitress was extremely helpful and the cozy little restaurant was the perfect spot on a cold KC night. Highly recommend it. We shared a bottle of wine and had a black Manhattan. The steak was cooked perfectly and the lemon tart dessert was heavenly. Perfect night!

Yelp
We're always hunting for a non-chain place to call our own. I totally loved this spot! The atmosphere, service, and food were awesome. First, I ordered a spicy bloody mary it was great. Our server really knew hospitality. He offered a meal and I happily accepted his recommendation. The whole vibe was amazing. My steak Benedict was perfect--they nailed the medium-rare. The attention to detail was incredible. The overall experience was something we were looking for.

Yelp
Brunch here was so good! They have a more unique breakfast menu, which I loved and the portions were big. Such a cute place with great service!

Yelp
Great ambiance and food selection. Two of us arrived without a reservation around noon on a Sunday and were seated within 10 minutes. Staff was very accommodating and modified a dish to make it gluten-free for me. Drinks were unique and tasty. Overall, food was great and would definitely go back.
google avatar

Chintan D.

Yelp
First off, surprisingly lots of good options for vegetarians. The service was really good. The waiter was very patient as we had a group meet face to face for the first time and had lots of catching up to do. They had great selection of wines and drinks on top of variety on their menu. I enjoyed the food. The setting is a bit rustic and could feel cramped at times but not too bad. Only downside was that I felt it was a bit overpriced as we ended up spending $400 for 4 people. Even with drinks, apps, and entrees, $100 per person is definitely high for this place. Other than that it was pretty fun evening.

Yelp
KC's 39th St's best kept secret. Fantastic food @reasonable prices as well excellent service and pride in presentation and food quality. Best hamburger and blended burger in town.

Yelp
Came here for my birthday dinner! It's a cute small place. No parking though so find some street parking! Haha. Rather small inside but it's farm fresh food so it's really good. The menu was super cool, looks like they change them out daily because they had todays date on the top! The mushroom soup was amazing. I got the garlic shrimp . The shrimps were huge and juicy. Yum. There was plenty. I was stuffed by the end of it. Lol the flavors were great too! We got three different desserts lol. The lemon one was the best! And I'm not normally a lemon fan haha. But it was amazing. But all of them really did taste fantastic. We also got the crème brûlée and the bread pudding I believe... they even put a cute little birthday candle on it. Teehee. Super nice place. Rather expensive though! But overall great night for a fancy dinner!
google avatar

Yelp
Super delicious. A quaint, intimate setting with some really good comfort dishes. Make sure you make a RSVP, it gets busy. Service, for a full house, was good. Slightly slower, but there wasn't an available table at all. Opted for their wild bass and quinoa, which was zesty, flavorful, but sadly... really small portioned for $18. It was probably less than a 3oz fish portion with 1/3 cup of quinoa--when I got home I actually had to feed myself again. I'll definitely come back to try other items. If all entrees are as small as this, likely several dishes to share might be a better option for my belly.
google avatar

Felicia S.

Yelp
We have not visited this restaurant in a long time so decided to give a try and pleasantly surprised to find a very pleasant ambiance, delicious, well prepared food and impeccable service. It was on a Wednesday evening and the place was not busy. Will come back.

Yelp
Came here to eat brunch with some friends. The wait time was over an hour, but definitely worth it if you're looking for farm to table dining. I love the fresh ingredients and friendly smiles on staff. I've order the appetizer of their in made pate. I just slather that on the toasted bread chip and add some fresh slightly pickle radishes. I wish the pate had more of a flavor but it pair well with everything on it. Next order a steak salad. I love mine rare I don't have to chew or cut it, it just melt in your mouth. It's very different, but tasty with the arugula, quinoa, cheese, and some healthy nuts. I definitely want to try their regular menu next time and hopefully the wait isn't that long.

Mark H.

Yelp
Great vibe! The Steak Benedict's was an amazing and the potatoes were the best I have ever had. Wow wow the potatoes!!!! A must visit when in the area, maybe make a reservation to assure minimal wait.
google avatar

Stacy S.

Yelp
Friends have told me about this place for years, so I finally decided to try it. The food was just okay. Pro Tip: Don't ask for the bacon crispy. The brioche french toast was really bland. I LOVED the potatoes. They were crispy on the outside, but light and fluffy on the inside.
google avatar

Ben D.

Yelp
This is a quaint restaurant that has some history after 18 years of business. The service staff is small and highly efficient. The ambiance is pleasant and the music is low enough to have a conversation. I ordered the Froie Gras and Steak Au Poivre. Both were wonderful. The owner/chef made the meal. For $39 the steak was a good value as well. You should make room in your life to take the time to enjoy Room 39. The only thing I would change is there is a light from the parking lot across the street that shines into the restaurant. A painting needs to be put in the window to block the light.
google avatar

Jenna C.

Yelp
Room 39 is one my favorite Kansas City brunch spots. The service is always on point and food is amazing. I also love their green chili Bloody Mary.
google avatar

Yelp
As always delicious. Service on point. Been a staple of 39th for a long time, happy it's still here!

Yelp
I woke up craving steak and eggs benedict so I searched for places in the city that would satisfy my craving. Room 39 came up. Looking at the pictures, the dish looked amazing and the reviews were glowing. So I came to give it a try. I was thoroughly disappointed. While beautiful, I could tell the timing on the cook was off. My steak and eggs benedict were lukewarm while the potatoes were piping hot. If I had come for the potatoes, I'd be so happy. They were crispy, crunchy, and hot. They could use some salt but the hot sauce fixed that. As far as the benedict, everything went wrong. The muffin is soft but barely toasted. Forgivable. The spinach: watery and lacking in flavor. No salt. No seasoning. The steak: my gracious! I've never had such a tough steak in my life. I had my steak cooked medium but could barely cut it with the butter knife they gave me. I chewed for ages before I could swallow. Chewing any less caused me to choke. When I received the requested steak knife, it was still pretty difficult to cut. The egg was cooked well but there were still traces of the vinegar water on parts of it. The only reason I did not send it back was because it's a pretty decently sized piece of meat. Big enough for me to feel bad for the cow that died so it could be on my plate. At least, half of my benedict was like that. The other half only had steak on the edges of the muffin but you couldn't tell until you moved the egg. The upside of this dish is that it's hearty and a pretty decent amount of food. The downside is the lack of flavor and salt and the toughness of the steak. Service was mediocre but I did get served. Would I come back? Maybe if someone asked me to but definitely not on my own.

Martha G.

Yelp
I am rating Room 39 in Overland Park, which unfortunately is now closed. It was wonderful and the food fantastic! The eggs Benedict, the ham and cheese madam croquet were my favorites and they had true fresh squeezed orange juice. If this restaurant on 39th street is owned by the same owners--I would highly recommend it. I just do not get down to that part of town, so I've never actually experienced this restaurant.
google avatar

Beth G.

Yelp
Took a late reservation on a Sunday. This little gem is tucked into the corner of a neighborhood. The small space is homey and funky all at the same time. A well stocked bar and an eclectic menu greeted us as we walked in. The service was excellent, answering our questions about the menu and making a few recommendations. There was all kinds of diners in the cafe including a larger family group, couples and friend groups. We will be back! A great Kansas City find!
google avatar

Kary W.

Yelp
Can't beat this place! Food is delicious! I've been here a few times when I've been through town as I make it a point to stop in. There are some menu items that stay sane and some change. Always friendly service. Fresh food and very reasonable prices. Indoor and outdoor seating. Cocktails available. Check them out!
google avatar

Yelp
Small unassuming restaurant with excellent food and service. Great casual local vibe.

Yelp
First time in, food was great and service was equal to or better. Perfect recommendations. If you're lucky enough to come by and Adrian is working, you'd be doing yourself a favor in asking for her.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in Kansas City! The food, the ambiance, and the service are always perfect. It's quaint, the restaurant is Kansas City owned and operated, and after going there and getting to know the staff for so many years, I feel like family! Andrew always greets me with a hug and a giggle as do the rest of his staff. The quiche is always my go-to and it is divine! Good veggie choices along with meat choices. Something for everybody! Great coffee too!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I decided to stop in and try this spot for dinner on a weekday night. We were immediately seated and our waiter quickly greeted us after. Room 39 has a very cool and calm atmosphere which adds nicely to the dining experience. Our waiter was very kind and knowledgeable about the menu. He helped direct us to entrees that we would both enjoy based on what we were craving. We had to request the complimentary bread, but besides that our food was great. I ordered the Arugula salad and the daily soup, which happened to be a type of tomato. Both were delicious and satisfying to my taste buds. Overall, I enjoyed our dining experience and I will be returning to try more items on the menu.

Yelp
Grabbed brunch at Room 39 recently and it was delish! First, the place is small. We had reservations for a Sunday at 11:00, and I'm glad we did because it was pretty busy. By the time we left, every table was full. We were seated quickly and ordered drinks- a kir royale for me and a coffee for the husband. The kir royale was great! I ordered the croque madame and he ordered the breakfast burrito. The croque madame was incredible, great bread, cheese, and perfectly cooked eggs on top. I took half of it home and ate it the next day! The breakfast potatoes were also really good- well cooked and seasoned. The burrito was also good! I would definitely go back!

Yelp
The Croque Madam was unbelievably crisp and delicious Ham was just right not salty and the eggs were cooked perfectly
