Room and board is one of my most favorite places to look at home furniture. They’re price is not the best, but their quality is great, staff are professional, attending and informative. They special order pretty much everything they have. Which makes it convenient for picky people like me and my partner.

Big Lots quality furniture at Mercedes prices. Recliner falling apart after only 7 years. T-nuts installed from the wrong side. Customer service useless.

Room & Board Old Orchard – Flawless Customer Service I visited Room & Board at Old Orchard in Skokie, IL to browse and get ideas. From start to finish, the entire team was warm, professional, and incredibly respectful of my time and vision—even knowing I wasn’t purchasing that day. There was absolutely no pressure, just genuine kindness and helpfulness. This location sets the standard for what luxury customer service should be. I’ll definitely be back.

We've been using R&B for 95%+ of our entire home's furniture for roughly 12 yrs. Everything is still in excellent condition. Our last purchase( 16 mo ago) was a bathroom vanity and now it's time for a new bed & mattress(latex). I was happy to see Consumer Reports giving R&B the highest top ratings on furniture stores(tied w/ Stickley). Plus their delivery has been very good - equally satisfying thus far. And what brought us to R&B- many of our pieces had been built in WI. It's all made in the USA as well as the woods used-grown here. This was a priority as well as design & quality.

I like they'r furnitur, well made. Hope to purchase their sleeper couch soon! I think it is the best made on the market.

We've shopped at R&B(this location) for over 10 yrs for our entire home. Our last purchase was this last Spring for a bathroom vanity. Always an excellent experience. The delivery men were super good & very careful. Excellent quality of furniture & beautiful! And all made here in the USA. Our vanity(The Berkley) was made in WI Thank you R&B. BTW; I just learned that Consumer Reports rated R&B #1 for quality-well made.

They have great furniture! A glorious showroom! I love walking through and being inspired. I have purchased many pieces throughout the years. The reason why you have two stars at this location is because the sales associates cannot be any more snooty. They cannot be any more unwelcoming, they cannot not help me any less than they do. I don't know if it's how I look, how I dress, or how they're perceiving me. I have been shopping at that store for many years. But usually happens is: I walk in, and I say hello. I ask for a specific or a type of room. At times they'll just point to me the direction of the room the item is in. Or at best they'll walk me to an area and then leave. Never to return again. If I have a question, I always have to hunt them down, and I feel like I'm irritating them for asking them anything. As I said I love your furniture. If I want something I usually go online and purchase it online to be delivered to my house. I'd rather give the business to just room and board and not to those sales snoots! Yes I am choosing that specific descriptor for your sales associates intentionally. They have attitudes and they are quite snooty. Please let them know that they can lose the attitude in the sooniness considering they are nothing but cashiers, with maybe good taste in furniture. LOL

First of all this building is gorgeous. My daughter and I noticed it after weeks of driving by and missing. So yesterday we decided to do a speedwalk through the joint, even though we had a feeling it’d be way above our trashy price point. We toured counter-clockwise through the larger-than-expected showroom and were greeted by a collection of lovely domestic vignettes, reminiscent of the best (and I mean this as a genuine compliment) of IKEA Scandinavian modern—but this version is of exquisite and lasting quality. Y’all know I’m a dedicated thrifter because I believe in QUALITY, and acknowledge it’s not necessarily affordable when new? Well, here’s that fancy new stuff I’d actually bother to buy if I had the checking account to bear the burden. The gents who run the place (for 35 years, they say!) tolerated us with admirable sweetness, and I saw some gold velvet club chairs I’d have put on credit if my husband wouldn’t have wept tears of blood

Yelp
It's been a while since I visited Room & Board, but I've always admired their modern and contemporary design aesthetic. This Skokie location expanded until it gradually encompassed this entire lot. We stopped in today to look at their office chairs. My companion had researched the brands and we purchased one that was in stock and will be delivered next week. We looked at other furniture in the large showroom. Several leather chairs and a corner swivel chair caught our eye. Sales staff was friendly and helpful.

Yelp
I love the furniture here and have been buying it for years - but a recent customer service experience left me scratching my head. I had always had great service here previously when shopping and decided to book a couple of personalized design visits online through their portal with a staff member. These are free, and actually quite helpful - their associates use computer software to assist you with designing your space - you can send them dimensions prior and the appointment is booked for an hour. My issue comes when my husband and I went to our appointment which was booked within the hour before the store closed - while our sales associate the appointment was booked with was beyond lovely, the other sales associates in the store were rudely commenting/turning things off, checking their watches and literally making it known that they had been there "all day" and it was time for them to leave! Wait a minute, I'm sorry - I have an appointment booked for a full hour - and I'm buying thousands of dollars worth of your furniture, and you're rushing your customers out the door on a weekend (this is 6pm, mind you) and not allowing us to answer any questions at all? It was uncomfortable, unprofessional and left a bad taste in my mouth. I would advise anyone wanting these appointments to avoid going close to store closing time and for the store to reconsider offering them at this time if this is going to be too stressful for them. I understand if you have things to do, places to be, but we all do - don't take it out on your customers who are trying to take advantage of your offered services.

Yelp
Wanted to let others know we had a very positive experience at Room and Board in Skokie. When we went in we had excellent customer service from Jonathan, he showed us some different fabric options that we were interested in as we had received some swatches and we were not sure of which one to choose. Today we had our delivery and it went well. They were on schedule, courteous and efficient (Ben and Mark). We cautioned them of our newly installed carpeting so they removed their shoes.

Yelp
3 years ago I spent a fortune furnishing my new home through Room & Board. I bought a Stevens Sectional there for $6k. Soon after I got it feathers started coming out of the cushions. I spoke to their customer service and was told it was normal and would stop and I should vacuum the cores. As time has gone on every day I pick up 10-15 feathers on the floor. I've called customer services multiple times and have been told that the feathers are supposed to come out and the cough has a 'relaxed' feel. After 3 years it looks like a bunch of bean bags. Customer service has been gaslighting me and other people, the same complaints have been put on the website concerning this product. If the product is bad or defective I hoped they'd do something, but I get nothing but gaslighting when I call. Basically I'm told to watch a video about fluffing my cushions. Meanwhile, I'm getting stuck with feathers poking through and feeling like I have egg on my face from getting rooked into thinking an expensive couch is a quality couch. Buyer beware.

Yelp
I am absolutely appalled by this Room and Board store. I make a special effort to go into the store and buy the furniture with a sales rep because someone had told me that buying at the store with a sales person keeps the stores open and it gives the sales people a commission. Otherwise, I would just buy it off their website. This is my 3rd purchase from Room and Board and this was a $9K purchase. It was already passed warehouse arrival date and I had emailed my sales rep to see if there was an update. But Sherri never responded. So I decided to call the store. Oh my goodness, you'd think I calling there to commit a crime. Todd, the sales rep berated me on how it was impossible for him to know where the furniture could be. That while Amazon may track their cheap little trinkets, the Room and Board hand made pieces could not possibly be tracked. The drama of this call, telling me that I was violently harassing him by asking him to check the status for me. This was causing a complete meltdown for Todd. He continued to scream at me as if I inflicted all of the social injustices of the world personally upon him. I'm glad he was able to get it off his chest. He seemed to have been bottling it up for awhile. It would've been comical if it wasn't related to $9K in furniture. I had thought I was paying a premium for Room and Board furniture because their products were made in the US and were quality products. But Todd told me that I should just cancel my order. So I guess they make enough margin to cover all of those cancelled orders from customers they couldn't care to deal with. I purposely choose to buy from Room and Board because I want to buy American made products and support our craftsman. But an experience like this tells me that not all sales people appreciate our purchases.

Yelp
I'll have that rug, that pillow, no wait that chair, oh and that piece of art too, and...and...and... Overwhelming in a really great way, I hadn't been back since I searched for a sofa, and I was quickly reminded as to why and how much I love Room & Board. Start in the kids area and this place will make you want to have kids...and lots of them...just so you can make their rooms look like the show area. Calm colors, cool artwork, and those beds! Move into the office, and you'll be all set, but not before getting a good night sleep in the mattress room. From mid-century reflections, tribal-inspired rugs, urban loft vibe, bachelor pad lounge, to the family room, you'll also find a nice small selection of outdoor furniture here. Leather sofas, lounge chairs, furry pillows, oh my. Okay, that's it! I'm moving in. Did you know they even have their own line of paint colors available? Price is a bit beyond my budget at the moment, but I will say I just got rid of my 25 year old lounge chairs, so the quality speaks for itself.

Yelp
I like this store. They have the kind of decor I look for. Clean, contemporary, good quality furniture. The sales lady was very helpful when my wife and I were shopping for a new sofa and loveseat. She knew when to be there to answer questions, and when to leave us alone to talk in private. Room and Board has a wide variety of furniture. It comes in different sizes, fabric types, cushion types, and price ranges. Our sales lady asked the right questions as to what we were looking for in style and comfort. She directed us to the right pieces and didn't waste our time showing stuff we didn't want to see. Unfortunately, the store didn't have anything on display that fit our needs. The sales lady sent us home with a ginormous catalog and her business card so we could contact her if we saw something in the catalog we liked or if we had any questions. We still haven't purchased our sofa or loveseat yet, but are keeping our options open and Room and Board is on our list of places to check out again.

Yelp
Two new developments: I just received email confirmation form Customer Service that they cannot sell me a replacement part because they have discontinued the item. I wonder why they would discontinue the item? Perhaps it broke too often? Second development, when I disassembled the broken bed, I found that it damaged the floor beneath when it collapsed. Room and Board has left me bedless with a damaged floor.....

Yelp
Room and Board has some great quality furniture with thoughtful design. We have bought many sofas, chairs and accessories here over the years. What's super discouraging is the staffs lack of help. The folks just sit in chairs and wait for you to seek them out - and when you do they are quick to assume a snooty and snobbish attitude. I don't understand why - we enjoy the space and the stuff - why can't they just be at a minimum kind???

Yelp
I am SO happy I went in here, and I wish I had done it sooner. I've known about them forever but I always associated them with that very minimalist metal / wood furniture. They have had such a specific & well known aesthetic for their tables, I almost forgot they did upholstery. Well, they have an incredibly good selection of sofas. You have to look at their website - it has every dimension, easily identified pricing, simple to configure online, etc... there is absolutely no better website for any furniture store. I've pretty much shopped at every one of them in the last few months. When I went in, I had just printed out the two sofas I wanted and it only took an hour or so to sit in them and figure out the one I liked better (other stores took forever - to leave with nothing). The salesperson & the manager are also very knowledgeable and friendly (and patient). Nobody is on commission either, so they encouraged me to take my time. They explained the different firmness in the cushions which was a little confusing (you can't customize much at R & B like arms and legs and pillow style, etc... but you can change the cushion firmness). You can also change the cushions later on to foam if I thought the firmness wasn't enough (it's an extra price, but it's good to know... if you order it this way, then it is not an extra fee - but then it falls into the custom queue and you have to wait longer). I was really lucky that they decided to stock the sofa I liked in a fabric I also liked, so I am getting it in a week. Otherwise, it's just the typical long wait that most stores have - but their stock fabrics are often pretty nice & then you can return it as long as it is in re-sale condition, if there's an issue. So, that's helpful. They have deep seated sofas with higher backs that I had a hard time finding at many stores. And, the prices aren't bad at all (another thing I seemed to remember was their prices being too high but they're not compared to similar stores). In fact, their prices are a bit lower than what I was quoted for similar items at Crate & Barrel and RH. But, their sofa dimensions are closer to what I wanted. The sofa came yesterday and it's great. It did have a bit of a chemical smell so i left the windows open & it has started to diminish. The pillows are a little crunchy in response to complaints that feathers leaked out a few years back, so there's a thicker case around the feathers, but they said it will soften up (though it's not too noticeable anyway). The big "dome" thing that some stores do with their cushions really isn't an issue (where they overfill them so they break in over time - meanwhile, you can't put your laptop or food on the sofa or it'll slide off the big puffy curved seat). It has this slightly, but nothing like another order I dealt with elsewhere. I'm typing on it right now & my laptop isn't' moving anywhere. So, in conclusion, the great sofa search is over!

Yelp
Ridiculous. Walked in with a drink that they want me to put in a cabinet? That's not covid protocols. That's being incredibly stupid.

Yelp
Disgusted by the sales staff. I have been searching online for some modern eclectic furniture and this place seemed to fit the bill perfectly. Although I do like the furniture, I refuse to purchase anything from a sales team as rude as this. As I walk into the store with my girlfriend, there are two staff members wandering the front of the store - neither of them with a customer, yet they do not feel the need to greet me or ask if I would like any assistance. I see a third sales rep, which makes eye contact and then looks away. I say hello, he responds back hi - without asking if I would like any help. I will admit that I am young (25), but this is no way to conduct business. I am assuming they just made a prejudice judgement and figured that I did not have the means to afford any of their furniture. Little did they know, I am sitting with over $100k in my bank account and was prepared to furnish my entire townhouse with R&B. It will take a lot for me to consider going back to this place again...
google avatar

Jody B.

Yelp
I love the furniture at this place. Everything is simple and comfy. It's easy to find pieces that go well together. I also think the help is decent. They are not on commission, which is good on one hand... but sometimes I felt ignored. But once someone found out we needed help, they were johnny on the spot. Rachel is particularly helpful. She will always look for an answer. I have had a few unusual requests and she has always asked her management... or the warehouse... or whoever she needed to find to get the answer. She has followed up with email and just gets things done! They do not have "sales" much, and the furniture can be expensive, but between the product and the service, I have found it worth the cost.

Yelp
I like the type of furniture that Room & Board carries. It's modern and uses a lot of natural cherry tones, which I like - not too light or dark. I have a natural cherry bedroom set that I bought from them about 15 years ago and it still looks great. I've always had a good experience with the sales staff here as well - always friendly and helpful. Delivery is prompt and as promised too. The reason i can't give R&B anything higher than a three star rating is that I question the quality of some of their stuff. The headboard on the queen size bed I have started coming apart where the bottom supports connected to the bed posts. Fortunately, I was able to get these fixed (See my review - De Frenza Furniture). My mom has also purchased some metal chairs with cushions from R&B and the welds have come apart. Several times! So while I like the style and design of the furniture at this store, be weary of the quality of the items! Especially when taking the price of the furniture into account.

Yelp
Top notch experience. In advance of moving, we came here to pick out a few furniture items to fill our first home purchase. We worked with Holly who was the sweetest and friendliest person. She was patient with us as we ran from one side of the store to the other, she helped us make decisions when our indecisiveness got the best of us, and she worked with us to make sure we got the delivery date we wanted. Oh, and speaking of the delivery, unheard of... these guys hustled to get our stuff in as quickly as possible while being ultra careful. After carrying heavy pieces of furniture up three flights of stairs, they kicked their shoes off before actually stepping foot into our condo. We even told them they didn't have to.. but they insisted. They were friendly, quick, showed up at the top of the delivery window, and were gone in no time. We couldn't be happier with our new furniture.

Yelp
This store is truly amazing. The downtown location is also great, but the drive to Skokie is well worth it due to free parking and equally huge selection. Prices are comparable to stores such as Crate & Barrel, and the quality of furniture at Room & Board is phenomenal. I recently worked with Sally G. to purchase a well priced sectional sofa and beautiful bed frame. Both pieces are sleek, modern, and exceptionally constructed. The furniture is arriving in one week for a reasonable delivery fee. I cannot emphasize enough how wonderful it was to work with Sally. She was non pressuring, honest (admitted she does not work on commission), knowledgeable, super friendly, and so very helpful. This company, whether it is downtown or in Skokie, will certainly retain my business. I will be returning soon to work with Sally for lamps and rugs!

Yelp
Beautiful furniture displayed in a large, open and bright store. The staff was also friendly and available to help, but left us alone when we said that we wanted to browse. The prices are high, but so is the quality... no Ikea-looking pieces here. You can also get the tables in a wide variety of materials (stone, glass, wood, etc.) so if you like the design, but not the material, ask about other options. Buy at Room & Board if you are willing to spend a little bit more to get exactly what you want. If you want one of their high quality pieces, but don't want to spend quite as much, they also sell their floor samples.

Yelp
Love Room and Board! Their Staff is FANTASTIC!! .. it's all about the Customer Service for me. I work hard for my money and sometimes the Customer Service will fail you everytime. I take my $$ elsewhwere Their furniture is super cute!! Their Styles are classic. A little pricey but I'm not trying to purchase furniture every other year. I will certainly suggest this furniture store to others :)

Yelp
If you like contemporary furniture design, you will love Room and Board. I do not know (or care to know) furniture fashions but this place strikes me as occupying a good spot between, say, Design Within Reach on one extreme and Dania at the other extreme. In other words, Room and Board does a good job of selling furniture that is contemporary looking. There is so much variation in furniture pricing that it is really hard to say if the furniture is pricey. The one exception is that I think the sofa pricing is pretty good. As stated in other reviews, the salespeople are very un-pushy. And Room and Board delivers when it says it delivers. I think most of the items are not custom made, so you won't have to wait four months for your couch.

Nate V.

Yelp
A really great place to purchase your next sofa. We have been very happy with the sofas we purchased and the customer service was great. The highlight was the delivery team who could not have been more professional. I wish every delivery experience was as good as Room and Board's delivery team. If you're looking for reasonably priced furniture, made in America, where workers are paid a living wage then check them out.

Yelp
Great products and great customer service. We had an issue with the valve on a sleeper sofa and they promptly and easily took care of it. Nice customer experience.

Dee L.

Yelp
Beware of this awful store. Worst customer service of any furniture store in Chicago, true the designs are modern, but the QUALITY POOR and way over priced with very rude customer service. We purchased a coffee table from them that is all metal and was way over priced, but I still figured it was worth it b/c we mistakenly thought high prices equals high quality, NOT true at Room and Board. The coffee table became ALL rusty in less than one year, we are younger working people with no pets or kids and live in a condo... the table hardly got any use! Such a scam, pretty much bought an expensive piece of junk metal. The manager lady even after admitting that it was indeed a DEFECTIVE table wanted to charge us a "Usage fee", which really got us mad. If you're admitting that the table is defective and giving us a new one, what the heck is a "Usage fee"... their furniture's prices are so jacked up I know they are making a profit even with giving us another new one. Either way we left the store w/ our first POS coffee table and refused to give into their silly "Usage fee". There are plenty of other modern furniture stores that put room and "card"board to shame.

Yelp
Thank you Bonnie for your great customer service and support. I hate shopping but love how you made the process seamless!

Yelp
We ordered a sectional sofa on December 3, 2017. Despite being assured that the items would ship on 2/8/18, I emailed to confirm in early January. A design associate promptly replied that yes, everything would arrive on time. A few days later, I received a form email from the salesperson - who helped us & encouraged us to order early - saying that the sofa would be delayed until at least 2/22. After many emails and a lengthy phone call, the salesperson and his manager said they could give us 10% off THE DELAYED PIECES ONLY...WHAT????!!!! So...we paid for an entire couch over 2 months ago, the entire couch will be arriving late, but we are being offered 10% off of 2 of the 5 pieces. We requested 10% off of the whole order and were informed that Adam & his managers consider their offer to be quite fair. No one at Room and Board has taken any responsibility for this mess. They keep repeating the new delivery date - yet they admit when questioned that it could, in fact, be delayed further. They give excuses about the warehouse from which the couch comes from and repeatedly explain that "this is just how it is with custom upholstery". That is garbage. Nowhere in the email receipt or online does it say anything about how it can be delayed without consequence to them. It clearly states the "expected" (not estimated) date of delivery. The salesperson likes to say a lot of different things (like it would be different if we had ordered in the store), then backtrack when we bring up the e-mail he sent in December saying ordering online is exactly the same. When pressed for details on why they were originally offering nothing for missing their delivery date, and why he was making things up about the ordering process, he simply told me to calm down. So helpful. Moral of the story: Room & Board does not care at all about their customer service or delivery service. They make the delivery date sound ironclad, then shirk responsibility when they miss it. And it looks like I'm not the only one with this problem - check out Tim M's review from 7/28/16. Room & Board clearly does not care about its customers and thinks that "oh well" is an acceptable response to an indefinite delay on expensive items. Let's not forget that they take payment up front - so they're good to go even when you don't have your furniture 3+ months later. Purchase at your own risk and ignore the expected delivery date. It is a deceptive marketing ploy, rather than reliable information about your item.

Christine T.

Yelp
Love this place. Inexpensive it isn't, but over the past couple of years, we've managed to accumulate a decent amount of furniture from R&B. The people that work here and at the downtown location are phenomenal (shout out to the guy downtown that helped us with selecting a custom fabric for a couch-he was super patient and helpful). Eileen, at the Skokie location is fantastic as well (whether you are buying a bin or a sideboard). The furniture is droolworthy. (Follow them on IG if you like their aesthetic) They get busy on weekends, so sometimes you do have to wait for help.

Yelp
They lie, they fail to communicate and then they blame you claiming you misunderstood the word "delivery". My story: ordered a sectional on May 31 and was told it would arrive the last week in July. Had a long discussion with the sales person about how I've had problems with other furniture stores in the past where they did not meet delivery dates or even let me know of their anticipated failure. Informed her that in those cases I had gone to those stores and had a major fit, loudly, on the sales floor (which, interesting to note, has always resulted in delivery within days rather than the weeks I'd been told). She assured me that if there was a delay they would call. Stupid of me to believe her. Last week, having not heard from them, I called to confirm delivery of this week. My sales person was out but the person who answered the phone said she would look it up and then told me yes- July 28. Yesterday I called to see about delivery time. You guessed it- delayed. I pointed out no one called me about that- no apology. Then they told me that they had a note in the system from EARLY JULY that it was delayed. So they failed to call me and then blatantly lied to me last week. Then they told me that the July 28th delivery date, in any case, was delivery to the warehouse in Minnesota! And tried to suggest my belief that delivery meant delivery to me unwarranted. Really? Now I am told I will not get it until at least the 12th. Getting nowhere with the sales person who answered the phone or the store manager I asked for his supervisor's phone number. Left a message for her, having not heard from her for several hours I called again and left a second message. In the meantime I called the 800 number and the guy was allegedly trying to contact the manufacturer to see what could be done. Finally the supervisor called me back and, to her credit, apologized. She is seeing what can be done. That was about 6:00 last night. Still waiting to hear from her. Oh, one other thing, they have offered to refund the price and cancel the order. They have not, however, told me how I would get the eight weeks of my life back. They know this is an empty gesture. Actually it is not even a gesture, just empty. Never again will I order from these people. In my experience they are incompetent, unable to pick up a phone and they lie.

Yelp
The sales associate that helped us (Jamie) was great. Totally helpful without being too pushy. The furniture was a bit out of our price range, but they have excellent merchandise. Bedroom, dining and living room sets are all available, as well as individual items. A very good store if you are looking to upgrade what you have in your home/apt/condo.

Yelp
Everyone must know what this company has recently done for us. We purchased a bunch of furniture from them for an apartment in Chicago. We basically furnished our entire apartment with Room and Board. We were very pleased with the entire process of purchasing, selection and quality of the furniture .Even the delivery was great. Well our experience even gets better. We had the furniture for close to sixty days and we sold the apartment so we did not need the furniture any longer . On a whim, my wife calls the folks at this company to see if they would possibly take the furniture back and refund us our $$. Without hesitation, they did just that!! A full refund and they picked all of the furniture up at no charge. Room and Board clearly understands the importance of great customer service. Kudos to them!!

this place is amazing! People that work there are super helpful and DON'T work on commission! Little expensive but thats the price you pay for quality work. Also you can't go there and actually pick it up that day. It has to be ordered and then delivered to your house.

Yelp
I really liked this store. It's right by the mall so it's easy to find. The store layout of the store is well done and there is a wide range of products to look at while you go through the store. I was looking for a dining room table and chairs. I sat in every chair in the store and found that the Marie was the best. I also bought a table from there that is very similar to a table at Crate & Barrel, but the one here was a little cheaper and better quality than the one at C&B. There's also a design area so you can look at swatches and visualize your rooms. I chose to come here although the downtown/Ohio St store is closer because I didn't want to deal with the crowds in the city. Plus, it turns out you can save a teeny bit of money on taxes by buying from the Skokie store. Michael Kasper helped me a lot. He really helped e figure out what I should consider to go with the painted walls and floors. I left the store with several fabric samples and a quote for my order. I put in an order about 2 weeks after my visit to the store and it was delivered 2 weeks earlier than the quote. The only reason I took off a star is that the store was somewhat crowded that day and all of the design associates were busy so they called someone from the storage room/shipping area to help me. This person tried his best but he really wasn't any help. He wasn't as knowledgeable about where some items were in the store and he when I asked him about color choices he kept telling me to email pics to the store for help- he wasn't able to help me in the store then. Fortunately I waited for Michael.

Yelp
I love Room and Board! Not only is the furniture well-sized for a condo, but the prices are reasonable and the quality is excellent. Most importantly, their delivery was outstanding and in a reasonable time frame. I had two delivery men who arrived exactly when they said, with the merchandise I requested in perfect condition. The couch is comfortable, the desk and table are beautiful, and everything fits perfectly in my new space. Room and Board is a service-oriented company, and you made my move to a new city go smoothly. Unlike another furniture company that has me waiting for months for delivery, Room and Board was timely and efficient. Thank you.

Yelp
Love, love, love Room & Board! My husband and I moved to the north shore several months ago and frequent the Skokie location. Great showroom, super helpful and friendly staff. We have made many purchases here and will continue to do so. Delivery guys are great and setup is quick. Highly recommend if you like modern, quality furniture!

Yelp
I was in from out of town over the weekend to order a sofa. After strolling through the store, I decided to pick up the Parsons bed as well! The decor is on point but that's as expected with Room & Board. I just wanted to give a shout out to Eileen who was not only lovely to work with during my visit but corresponded effectively and efficiently postorder. I had to make a quick fabric change after the order had been placed and she was able to contact the factory and waive the 10% fee that would have been charged due to the change. I not only suggest stopping in, but I highly recommend Eileen who is a superstar!

Yelp
I purchased furniture from this store many years ago when they first opened and they have grown much bigger and more popular over the years. I have recently purchased a kitchen set and dining room furniture here and am so satisfied. The sales woman I have been dealing with (Eileen) is amazing and wonderful! She really wants her customers to be satisfied and goes above and beyond to help you choose just the right items. Whether it's a pillow or entire room of furniture, she is just so caring and helps you find just that right item. I have dealt with other sales people in the store in her absence and they are also just as pleasant to deal with. There were a few times I was just browsing and getting ideas and I still found the sales people not pushy or overbearing. I can't say enough good things about this store. I have been to the downtown Chicago store and it's set up a bit different and not as easy to browse around in. I wish I had a budget to furnish my entire home in Room & Board. But for now, I'll just do the redecorating a room or a few pieces at a time.

Yelp
Went to R&B today for their floor sample clearance sale. Saw a nice end table at a good price. However, when it came time to purchase the item I was told that I would not get the item for 3 weeks (after Jan 15 - it is Dec 26). They would make no guarantees that the item would not be further damaged in those 3 weeks. And I would either have to pay $90 to have it delivered or drive an hour to another store to pick up. Yes, I get that this is a nice store with good quality merchandise, but this sale is a complete rip-off. You basically pay them today and take your chances that the item is not damaged in the next 3 weeks. Then you either pay an exorbitant delivery charge that was 35% the cost of the item or have to drive two hours round trip to another store when your home is 10 minutes from the store you went to. Very poor customer service.

Yelp
i only write reviews when i receive exceptional service - and room & board has delivered just that. i bought a leather sectional 2 years ago - it's big, beautiful and exactly what we needed. earlier this month, we noticed one of the cushions was sagging. i called room & board and they had a furniture technician out a few days later. he quickly diagnosed the problem - a broken frame (likely attributable to boys jumping on it), and was unable to fix it on the spot. the same day, customer service called and schedule a time to pick up the broken section of the couch, and return it once it was repaired. the delivery guys - on both ends of the transaction - were courteous, prompt and 100% professional. all in, it took one week. when they say 100% guaranteed satisfaction - they mean it. thank you room & board!

Yelp
This review is specifically about the wool shag area rug we ordered. Disappointed with the quality. The rug was a custom color and didn't arrive on time because it had been refused to color quality being poor. Finally, the rug arrived and since then (two years) it has shed like crazy, despite having been cleaned twice. Now, the fibers are pulling away at the perimeter. For us this was an expensive rug and it doesn't get much traffic, just sits there. I would stay away from the longer shag rugs here.

Yelp
We ordered one couch from Room and Board and would have ordered another. However, the process for looking at fabric is horrendous. I can't get a piece of fabric bigger than a 3 inch square to get a sense of how it would look in large form or in the space. We were told that we could NOT take fabric from the downtown Chicago store. Those are large pieces of fabric that we could basically drape over the entire existing couch to get a very good idea of what it would look like in the space. So we trekked out to the Skokie store (45 minutes each way) 4 times because we were not going to order a $3000 couch without making sure the fabric worked. Each time we were harassed about getting the fabric back by 10 am the next day after an evening pick up. This is just not feasible with two working people and a designer who live and work no where near the store. So then when it is not returned in this completely unreasonable time frame, the store people leave threatening messages on the designers phone. It's is absurd that the stores don't have larger swatches of fabric that people can take home. It serves no one to have dissatisfied customers with couches that don't work or people not purchasing at all because they are not comfortable with the process. If you had some 12 x 12 in pieces that a customer could take on a more liberal basis (a couple of days) so that the one could look at multiple pieces at the same time in the space, that would be a decent process. Instead you have these large pieces of fabric on a hanger that are treated like they are made of gold. I recently bought a rug which the store delivered an 8 X 11 ft version to my house and it sat in the space for several days. It seems like losing a little fabric along the way is the cost of doing business if you really want to sell couches. After the harassment, I'm not interested in giving anyone a commission or ordering your product. It's ridiculous.
