Yelp
Wonderful little hotel located next to Placa Catalunya. It does try to be a bit hip- but if you ignore that part it's actually a wonderful hotel.
It's very safe, key card to enter lobby, key card to use the elevator, and front desk is always manned. (They can let you in, if you forget your key card.)
The front desk is excellent and a special shout-out to Yao, Raquel, Marta, and Sahand! (More about the front desk later!)
They will hold your luggage, if your room is not ready. The breakfast area is nice, spacious, and clean. The breakfast buffet is quite good for 10 to 12 euros, they keep it fresh until noon- no picking at leftover food if you come late- it's actually a very nice spread with hot food, cold cuts, pastry items, multiple types of juices, and fancy coffee machines. The food is quite high quality, I definitely recommend getting their breakfast buffet or at least going to take a look.
The room did smell a bit musty, but was clean. I'm not a fan of how two beds are directly next to each other- I like space between the beds, but that's me. The bathroom is modern and clean, love the handheld shower head or rainfall shower head. Water pressure and temperature was excellent!
I booked through Chase points for four nights, but only stayed two - because I became very ill in Barcelona and decided to return to the US immediately. The morning/day shift on both days were Yao and Raquel. They were wonderful during check-in, Yao and I had a very lively conversation in Mandarin where she explained the hotel and city to me. (First time in Europe.) I wish I got a chance to try some of her restaurant suggestions. Raquel was quite nice, but I didn't get to interact with her more until the next day.
The next day, I was quite ill and kept asking Yao and Raquel questions- they offered to call a doctor to the hotel and try to find a pharmacy that was open on Sunday. After the doctor came and I was told I needed to be hospitalized- Raquel made the taxi reservation to take me to the hospital.
Upon returning from the hospital, Sahand and Marta were on shift. I'm not sure if Yao and Raquel had left them a note or they saw me holding the hospital discharge papers, but they were both very kind and offering any type of support I may want. They offered tea, order service from a restaurant so I wouldn't need to go out again, etc etc. it was very nice, especially since I was still feeling so crummy.
When I asked for a blanket, Marta immediately went upstairs to retrieve it for me. I told her I didn't need it immediately, but she waved me off and made sure I had it immediately. When my xrays dropped behind some furniture, Sahand came up and tried to retrieve them for me. It was behind some bolted furniture, but he definitely tried his best.
All four of these front staff members were amazing. It's scary to be that sick in a foreign country, where you need to be hospitalized and not know the area, language, etc. Yao, Raquel, Marta and Sahand made a huge difference in helping me feel safe and supported.
There might be nicer hotels near Placa Catalunya, but the genuine care shown by the staff is what causes me to recommend this hotel.
