California Foie Gras Ban Upheld Following U.S. Supreme Court Decision - Eater SF

"Frank Klein, the co-founder and former CEO of local chain Asian Box, is plotting a new chicken restaurant in downtown Palo Alto. Roost House will take over the former China Delight space at 461 Emerson Street with chicken dishes, vegetarian alternatives, and beer, wine, and cider. And given Klein’s history with Asian Box, you can expect more Roost House locations down the line." - Janelle Bitker

I liked my chicken sandwich. The breading was pleasantly light. Next time I'll ask for less mayo though. And they have some hot sauces and jellies that I didn't see in time but those would be nice additions as well. Kids like the fried breast and thigh, both boneless. The fried leg was less popular with them, but that's probably because they didn't like dealing with the bone. All in all a nice place.

Been here twice now, and got the same thing both times. They're still in the process of setting up, so things have a bit of an 'under construction' vibe to the decor, but it's perfectly serviceable for now. Thoughts on the food: The Roost House Sandwich, is (in my opinion) the best fried chicken sandwich in DTPA, beating Patio, Tap Room, and Dan Gordon's for flavor, juiciness, and quality. It is unfortunately smaller than the others, but still adequately sized (I'd argue Dan Gordon's chicken sandwich is a bit too much honestly). It is well topped, and I am a fan of pickles and slaw on a chicken sandwich (I'd guess they'd customize it at request). The sandwich only comes with some mixed greens as a side, and the dressing is sparse to nonexistent. This means that it can be a light meal if you don't order anything beyond your sandwich. That said, prices are fairly low, so really all they've done is made getting a side optional. I'm guessing that may change once they are "fully" open. To make up for the lack of fries on the menu (a bit of a bummer to be honest) we filled out our meal with the potato salad and it was excellent. Mustard forward with a tasty addition of Turmeric, so if you prefer your potato salad to be mayonnaise soup, you may be disappointed, but I found it quite refreshing. Drinks: For beverages, I was looking for a beer -- they have no tap (yet? Hopefully that will be fixed once remodeling is done.) but the selection that they've chosen of bottled and canned beers is decent. Overall: If this place wasn't just starting, I'd probably give it about 4 stars, but DTPA has a severe shortage of reasonably priced places serving normal human food like this so I'd encourage locals to check it out. It feels like it might turn into a local icon. Or not. I don't know, I just love fried chicken.

This place has no posted hours is never apparently open(?). Looks built out inside, but have never seen it operational. I will revise my review once hours are posted.
