Colorful Latin kitchen downtown turning out jerk chicken tacos, tortas, and fresh salsas. Recommended by Southern Living, it’s a casual counterpoint to white‑tablecloth staples and a reliable stop for bold flavors before a show or parade.

Went down on a busy Saturday night while artists in the park was on display. No street parking, only parking garage in rear at a cost of $10-25. Waitress was not dressed very professionally but atmosphere was very casual. Waitress was not patient with new customers. Restaurant was hot and sweaty. Chips and salsa was not bottomless and was saltless and very bland. Customer ant the table ordered guacamole dip, no salt and chips were very thick. Owner personally heated up some chips for one of the customers with me at my table and confessed he didn’t have the proper equipment to keep the chips warm, it was ordered. After we got the new chips, we felt sorry for the other customers that were being served cold, thick, and bland chips. Brisket Burrito was good, split in two as a courtesy. Manager only compensated for the bland guacamole and offered no other refunds/menu changes for the meal. Felt the meal was over priced under seasoned and not worth the jog downtown. 2/10 stars

We dined outside on a beautiful night. Cool spot to people watch. Our waitress was super personable and offered great menu guidance when we asked. We started with chips and the trifecta: queso, guacamole, and salsa. I’m not normally tortilla chip obsessive, but their chips are thicker than most and were very obviously fresh. The queso…so good that I’d have gladly chugged the bowl if I didn’t fear the scorn of my easily-embarrassed-by-mom 10-year-old. Our kids ordered from the kids menu. They were both pleased with their choices - chicken taco for one and cheese quesadilla for the other. The kids’ plates each came with their own chips and queso, as well. I opted for 2 street tacos - jerk chicken and al pastor. Our waitress said she gets an al pastor every day she works. After tasting it I saw why. The meat was ridiculously tender and flavorful. Probably one of the best Al pastors I’ve ever had. My husband got the torta de carnitas. Based on the speed with which he inhaled it, I’d say it was a big hit. We didn’t venture in to the salsa bar, as we were moving minimally after a long day at the beach. But apparently we missed out on quite a selection.

So if you're ever downtown Mobile, this is the place to checkout. I had the enchiladas and they reminded me of Madre's. This place has been on Triple D, so you know it has to be good. Kim helped me and did an excellent job. Five stars is not enough for this place.

Google
Saw Roosters on all kinds of dining lists for Mobile, so had to try it out. We were not disappointed! Went for dinner around 5 on a Saturday night and it was half full, no problem finding a table. Couple tables outside on a small patio, too. Staff were friendly, and food was ready in good time. Note that you cannot mix and match individual tacos for a taco plate if you want the deal! Ordered a Rooster Sunrise margarita, 2 chorizo tacos, 1 jerk chicken taco, 2 al pastor tacos, and sides of plantains and chips w/ queso. All were excellent. Loved that they have a hot sauce and toppings bar to further customize, too. The plaintains on the chorizo tacos were inspired!

Google
Saw this on DDD several years ago and was excited to finally be in the area to try it. We were beyond disappointed. Chips were hard as rock with no flavor to the salsa. The mahi, shrimp, and jerk chicken tacos were bland. Only things that were any good were the brisket, cheese dip, and guac. It took over 20 minutes after we finished eating to get our check. They were not that busy.

My coworkers and I were in town for a conference and this was our first dinner spot. We loved the lively atmosphere and our waitress was very sweet. The food was very reasonably priced and delicious: I had the spicy chicken, jerk chicken, and al pastor tacos. The chicken was a tad dry but the flavor was great! One of my coworkers is from Jamaica and he ordered one of the Jamaican dishes and said it tasted just like home! The pineapple passionfruit margarita was fantastic. The tres leches cake tasted nothing like tres leches but was still good. We overall enjoyed our meal, but the service was extremely slow. We did visit on a very busy night (Taco Tuesday!), but it took almost an hour and a half to get food for 4 people, which seemed a bit excessive, with no acknowledgement of the wait from our waitress

Google
I can’t say enough great things. They have shaded and sunny outdoor seating and plenty of indoor seating too. The staff are so friendly! The food is top notch!! The surf and turf burrito is not to be missed. Their chorizo is so good. They serve Cammie’s Ice cream with their cobblers!! But those are delicious in their own too. Since my husband and I were sharing the burrito, they even cut it in half and served it on separate plates. Very rarely do places go that extra step for us.

Google
They have the best Birria Tacos I have ever tasted in my life and that Rooster Sunrise drink was delicious and we had a Surf and Turf Burrito it was delicious as well that Jalapeno Slaw was Divine 😋😋😋

Yelp
I highly recommend Roosters! We were visiting our son and were looking for something more than typical Mexican food, so our son suggested Roosters. They offer Latin America food with burritos, tacos and tequila. The offer inside and outside seating and luckily we didn't have to wait on a Thursday night. I was excited to see jerk chicken on the menu, but decided instead to split the Boss Hog with my husband. The Boss Hog is a huge burrito that contains slow cooked pork, black beans, and cheese and is topped with pickled jalapeños, ranchero sauce and chipotle cream. It was really good, and splitting it was plenty for me. I also ordered a side of sweet plaintains which are always my favorite. I was glad to see them on the menu. When we got the check, it was cool because they brought it in a book. Yes, an actual book that you can read. People write notes on the pages which adds to the fun.

Yelp
Back in November, my wife and I went to see Queensrÿche at Soul Kitchen in Downtown Mobile, but arrived downtown early to get something to eat. After finding some good parking, we made our way toward the venue, and sitting outside Roosters next door to Soul Kitchen were members of the band, who were waiting for their food at a table. We figured if the food was good enough for the band, it was good enough for us. So we left the band to their devices and headed inside to get something to eat. We were pleasantly greeted and seated immediately in an area that was decorative, comfortable and quiet enough for a great conversation. We were pretty excited about the weekend ahead of us, and we discussed it at length. The waitress came and took our order. My wife decided on the nachos, and I went with the El Toro burrito. Now, I've lived in Mobile for ten years, and I've known of this place, but never tried it. And what a mistake that was. When our food arrived I couldn't believe how good it looked, smelled great, and I couldn't wait to try this fantastic looking burrito that was placed in front of me. And when I did, WOW! That had some of the freshest taste I'd had in a burrito! The cilantro was prominent and it really popped the flavor of the brisket, which was smoky and delicious in its own right. I could say I was pleased with it, but that would be an understatement. My wife seemed equally pleased with her nachos, which she called "really good". It was kind of a whirlwind dinner, as we had to go and claim a really good spot in line for the show. I'm actually looking forward to going there again and trying more of their menu in the future.

Yelp
Good food. Great service. The nachos were huge. I also got the taco dinner. Loved the chorizo taco. Kid friendly. I also loved the salsa bar.

Yelp
So there is an identity crisis going on with this restaurant. At first, I thought with the name "Rooster's" that it's a chicken joint. Nope. They branded themselves at Latin America restaurant. However, they serve some Jamaican/Caribbean flavors like Jerk chicken (that is not Latin food). They also serve Cuban Sandwich (Cuban, Dominicans, Puerto Rican has Spanish and African heritage, but identify more Caribbean than Latin American. Latin American is more mainland than island. I had the Paleo Plate with the choice of meats. That was definitely a plate with an identity crisis. I had the Jerk Chicken (Caribbean), and Al Pastor (Mexican with Lebanese flavor) serve with chimichurri (Brazillian not LatinX). This usually comes with one choice of meats. I was charge $14 for Jerk Chicken and another $14 for Al Pastor. Paleo w/ Choice of Meat Grilled Vegetables, Jalapeño Cabbage Slaw, Avocado, Citrus Pickled Red Onions & Chimichurri Mahi Mahi 17 Shrimp 16 Steak 16. Barbacoa 14 Pork 13 Al Pastor 14 Chorizo 13 Chicken 14 Jerk Chicken 14 Veggies 13 Mainly this place a Mexican restaurant that wants to be something else. There is no Peruvian rotisserie chicken. No pupusas. No Arepa. Basically it's a Mexican/Jamaican restaurant. Interior feels more like a Mexican restaurant. Service was okay. I had to ask server several times for a refill my soda and they weren't that busy.

Yelp
I wanted dinner local, a few minutes walk from my hotel and found Roosters. I am a huge fan of tacos and a good margarita. Upon entry I was greeted by their friendly staff. Shortly thereafter I ordered a refreshing hibiscus margarita and the Al pastor pork tacos with a side of chips and queso! The first bite into the taco was delicious and I knew I made the right choice! I loved the salsa and hot sauce bar too! I'm from the Deep South (living in Texas) and it was a pleasure meeting the staff at Roosters! Super friendly and pleasant.

Yelp
Mardi Gras in Mobile and my wife and I needed a place to get a mid-afternoon snack in between parades. Tucked into a former clothing store, Roosters has a cool old-time Mobile ambiance. Several tables for sidewalk seating. Lots of servers and staff that make sure you're taken care of. The menu is eclectic Latin/Mexican. It's not the kind of place that gives you a free setup of chips and salsa. The free salsa bar has plenty of choices for doctoring your menu selections. We had the jerk chicken nachos. The basket had copious amounts of white queso covered chips. The jerk chicken was grilled chunks of chicken with some good flavor and just a little spice. The only knock on our snack was that the chunks of chicken were not as plentiful as hoped. Even so, this a go to spot when we're in Mobile.

Yelp
True authentic Mexican tacos being served here. These tacos are over stuffed with protein and very fresh toppings. The salsa bar is a nice touch. This place is conveniently located in downtown Mobile. I was promptly greeted when I walked in and seated. My server was very friendly.

Yelp
Everything was amazing from the food to the service! The atmosphere was fun. It was cool how they brought the check out in a book that people have signed. I will definitely be back when we visit.
google avatar

Yelp
Literally best place for lunch in Mobile if you want reasonably priced, healthy, overflowing with flavor food. And they have gluten free options! I also most appreciated that I could eat outside. Not to mention, service was friendly and swift.
google avatar

Allen L.

Yelp
Immediately greeted by friendly staff. That genuinely nice service followed through to the server as well. Got grilled chicken tacos and wasn't sure what to expect given that we have some really outstanding tacos in Houston. These were perfectly cooked. Tender and flavorful. Some of the best fresh tortillas I've ever had. The manager told me that they work with a local farmer that is growing an heirloom corn. They also had a wide variety of fresh salsa and some super spicy bottled ones
google avatar

Yelp
The food was good, the Caribbean Jerk chicken will be a good try. No complaints about service and the vibe had energy. The drinks would be my only complaint, the margaritas seemed flavorless with little to no alcohol.

Yelp
Love to grab Roosters for lunch during the work day. It's a decently sized restaurant and typically there is never a wait unless you are with a larger group. The staff is always super nice and food comes out quickly. One of my favorite burritos I've ever had is the Boss Hog! It is delicious. I've also tried some of their tacos and they were good! My favorite part is your check comes in a book :) Will definitely return to Roosters!

Yelp
Everything is good, and I have ordered most of the menu from this place, both dining in and to go. I don't understand why all restaurants don't have a sauce bar?? Their salsa and hot sauces are really good, wouldn't hurt for them to have a more typical Mexican/American style salsa to pick from, but typical Mexican doesn't seem to be their angle. I get more of a Central American, maybe Guatemalan feel. Recommend.
google avatar

Chris W.

Yelp
Service is amazing! Food is phenomenal! Seriously, doesn't matter if you get a Cuban sandwich or an enchiladas plate! Fantastic! HIGHLY recommend!
google avatar

Jerrica C.

Yelp
This review is solely on the chips, salsa and beer I had. The salsa was the worst I've ever eaten. Neither I nor the other six in my party could eat it. They did however enjoy the nachos they ordered. I did like the beer selection. The beer pictured was actually very good. Staff friendly and the restaurant was clean.
google avatar

Delia S.

Yelp
Avoid. Avoid. Food is beyond forgettable and sub-par. The rice was hard, guacamole had no seasoning, and the chips were cols. I ordered the barbacoa taco and it was inedible because of a rancid aftertaste. The carnitas was the least offensive of the three tacos. Skip the plantains. Burnt. The most horrendous part of this experience was that during our meal, an employee wheeled a large garbage can through the front door. I have NEVER been to a restaurant that would allow their guests to see the trash being taken out. Horrible horrible.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been here twice I thought it was ok. Had food and margaritas both times, both were ok. Service was good both times. Many people must like this place because they are always busy
google avatar

Jim M.

Yelp
The drinks were decent but the appetizers we had were not good at all. We ordered chips, salsa, queso, and rice. The chips were straight out of a plastic bag. Salsa was bland. Queso was the stuff you get at high school football games. I wouldn't recommend.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
Had a late lunch/early dinner with my wife on 02/18/23. The Torta De Carnitas was 2 stars. The El Toro Burrito was 3 or 3 1/2 stars. We were seated quickly. Our waitress was nice. However, I should have had an option for a side of either the kettle chips or jalapeño slaw. I was not given a choice and received the chips. The food came out hot. The ambiance was nice. My wife especially liked how we received our bill in a book.
google avatar

Josh F.

Yelp
Had something to do downtown and had a few minutes to spare and went to roosters! The nachos were amazing! Best I've ever had and I immediately bragged about how flavorful they were! The counter lady wasn't pleasant but my food came fast! Go to roosters and get the nachos!
google avatar

Yelp
The Ambience is Kind of a Gulf Coast local mash up. Not a romantic getaway but not a bad place for date. The staff was very friendly. The food took a little long to come out but it was lunch rush so no points of there. The burrito was large and vey filling. The sign says authentic Latin food. Well that's a bit hard to pin down, "Latin food" does cover a large swath of things. But it was authentically tasty.

Brianna P.

Yelp
The food is AMAZING and the service is even better! I honestly have never been to a restaurant and been this pleased. Will come back over and over again!
google avatar

Whitney J.

Yelp
The food was pretty authentic and delicious. The waitress we had was very knowledgeable and kind to our big group of kids. We sat outside and the street was lit up above making it a great night.

Yelp
In an effort to celebrate my birthday I treated myself to a birthday lunch on me. Yup. Yup. I took me out to lunch on a beautiful day and enjoyed the scene. I rarely get into an arguèrent with me. So I make for good company. But then I met Caris. Kinda like Paris but with with a "C". She was my assistant for the day. She introduced me to my burrito and a Stormy Cocktail. Very good. Then they treated me to some cake for my birthday. Yeah team. Thanks a bunch gang. That was fun.

James B.

Yelp
Was in town for a couple days and I regret not going back!!! The staff was friendly and the surf and turf burrito was definitely top 3 I've ever had, and I'm from Texas. If I go back to Mobile it will definitely be the first place I go eat at!
google avatar

Brian V.

Yelp
I love the authentic Mexican menu at this great downtown spot. The place looks great from the street and even better inside. I sat at the bar but had a very good server that took care of me while I was there. Carne Asada taco lunch was a perfect lunch portion and really fresh. Will be back soon.

Yelp
Came here for a team lunch on a Friday during work. When we came in, we were the only people in the restaurant and were seated quickly. Our waitress fairly attentive and polite. 4 of us ordered the Torta de Carnitas and the other 2 got the Surf and Turf burrito. My coworkers said the surf and turf burrito was "really good". I got the torta de carnitas and it was fantastic. The sandwich comes cut in half and served in a bowl of Ranchero sauce. We also all got the tres leches cake, which was good, but not 6 dollars good unless you're putting the meal on the company card. I asked my coworkers what they would rate the ambiance out of 5 stars and they said "it's a Mexican restaurant, what kind of ambiance is there. Eh 3.5" So do with that what you will. The one thing that is pretty unique about this restaurant is the hot sauce bar, complete with both store bought and homemade hot sauces.
google avatar

Spencer M.

Yelp
I have zero complaints! Location is cool - the street outside is covered in twinkle lights and it's right downtown. The restaurant is clean and the decor has a lighthearted and fun vibe. The service was fantastic, and THE FOOD was wicked. They have a salsa bar with a variety of traditional salsas and hot sauces, and more contemporary choices as well. The Hawaiian sauce was stupid-good! Also doesn't break the bank, so perfect for a low key weeknight or a budget-friendly weekend dinner.

Yelp
Over a decade ago, I went to New Orleans on a road trip and the whole group of us stopped in Mobile for some Mexican food. I don't remember where exactly we stopped, but my Chicano self was thrilled at finding food as good as my dad made. My companion and I kept trying to find that restaurant to no avail (although apparently our host told us it was probably one specific restaurant to be left purposely unnamed here as to not deter from the intended review). Anyhow, we wound up at Roosters as I wanted tacos and the lady at the reception desk at Candlewood Suites nearby heavily recommended this place. Have to say she killed it. This place was just as delicious, perhaps even more so than the last time we had tacos in Mobile. Oh, the memories. Tear. Nostalgia aside, we just barely made it to the restaurant. In fact, I think we were the last people they sat. They stop taking customers at 9 PM on Saturday, so yes folks, I could definitely tell I wasn't in South Florida anymore. As far as drinks went, I abstained, but my companion had a Corona. He also had chorizo rice and beans and the plate was massive. The same can be said for my tacos. I ordered the spicy chicken tacos, which were only two, but they were stuffed to the brim and had an accompanying side of chips and guacamole. I think my only regret with my order was that I only have so much stomach. I couldn't finish my meal, and goodness knows I wanted to. The food really took me by surprise. The jalapeños in the tacos were extremely fresh, perhaps the best I've ever had. If I could, I would totally take this restaurant with me back home. It was amazing. I loved the place so much that I bought a couple of souvenir t-shirts from them, so my companion and I could remember the restaurant (seeing as we couldn't remember the restaurant we went to over a decade ago). I think we found our Mexican restaurant in Mobile, although yes, this is more generally Latin American food, but from this Chicano self, anyone with Mexican roots would be thrilled with Roosters.

Yelp
Service and food quality were fantastic. The atmosphere is simple but the food was spectacular.
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
This is handily a five star spot. We had no trouble getting a lunch table for four, and everyone ordered one of the taco plates with a side. There were absolutely delicious and very filling, but it didn't sit on our gut and spoil dinner. Service was tip-top and our water glasses were kept perfectly full, and the ambiance was quirky-urban-charming. Perfection!
google avatar

Jayson S.

Yelp
Came to this little gem of a dive. At first the expectation were minimal at best. What came as a surprise to me with this being a Latin restaurant was the option to buy meat only as I live a keto/carnivore lifestyle. I order the steak, jerk chicken and al pastor. All were delicious. Morgan our server was busy but still attentive. I will definitely return here again while in downtown Mobile.
google avatar

Jack C.

Yelp
Really felt compelled to leave Roosters a review. Excellent food and service. The food came out within minutes and was delicious and fresh. The atmosphere was fun and unique. Everyone on staff couldn't have been friendlier. Loved my experience here and can't wait to come back when I'm in town next! Keep up the great work, Roosters!

Yelp
I don;t know anything about the wine or beer menu since I do NOT drink..but when I came in,,it was crowded..mostly because most places here on Dauphine Street close early..I also grade Mexican food places hard since I am MExican and live on the border..I did not order a meat entree..only 2 vegetables and tortillas..the burritos are made different, but this is south Alabama,,not Ciudad Juarez.my mixed vegetables were good, but rice needed a little bit more seasoning..I wanted chips, but you get charged for them..in my turf..chips are served as an appetizer with salsa when you sit down..not charged for them..

Yelp
Very impressive! Seating outside but it was very windy and a little rainy. Really cool looking inside. Our server Karis was very attentive and she did a very good job keeping up with what looked like quite a few tables. She was very personable and just an awesome server. I could not believe that I liked the nachos, my husband talked me into it and I was pleasantly surprised, I'm just not a liquid cheese lover but wonders never cease. The Cuban was ok it didn't have any mustard and my Cubans have always had mustard so I didn't love it I also took it home.

Yelp
Southern hospitality and friendly service with some tasty options. We shared the surf and turf burrito with the carnitas tort-a and they were both yummy!
google avatar

Trey C.

Yelp
Great spot! Seriously. Good tacos, good salsa, great sandwiches. If hungry, don't pass it, even if you only want 1 taco. You're welcome!
google avatar

Killian B.

Yelp
Nothing bad to say. The chips were crispy , the salsas and homemade hot sauces are fantastic. The surf and turf burrito was gigantic (got 2 meals out of it) and the tacos my wife loved. Service was great and multiple people checked on us. Really nice play with low music so just enough to relax.
google avatar

Ashley D.

Yelp
We were welcomed as soon as we walked into the restaurant which is always nice. The inside is small, but full of decorations and a good amount of seating for the space! My husband ordered the surf and turf burrito and he seemed to really enjoy it. I got the rice bean and meat platter with the barbacoa. The meat was super flavorful! The rice and beans not so much. But adding their salsa on top of everything in one of the corn tortillas definitely helped! I would give this place another shot but would choose a different meal. Stop by if you're in town!

Lorrie N.

Yelp
Pretty cool place. Food was ok. Service ok. Had to sit outside because we had out Yorkie with us in her stroller. Did not enjoy all the cars coming by playing loud music over and over. Must be a cruising area.
google avatar

Tim M.

Yelp
It's been on Tv so how could it not be good!! The sandwiches are pretty good and the unique flavors they come at you with makes this place want to be known. The mango sauce is also a must try to understand how good this place is.
google avatar

Juliet H.

Yelp
Yum! Roosters is yummy! I love their tacos, queso fundido & guacamole. Their burritos hit the spot also! I never have and issue being seated and getting food fast here, and that's a plus for me as well. Roosters is one of my go-tos when I'm in a good, chorizo mood!
google avatar

Tad D.

Yelp
Super good food, kind and fast staff. I had the carnitas torta and it was friggin dynamite. Sandwich of the month. Worth driving over from Baldwin county if you're wondering. After the meal the owner came by, he was really cool. Show these people some love, they work hard and make great food.
google avatar

Yelp
Phenomal food. Paleo plate has tons of different flavors. Service was excellent. Been here a few times and always have a hard time decided what to order as everything is great. Gets packed quickly around lunch so get there right at 11 when they open.
google avatar

Deej Jo A.

Yelp
I suggest you order a plate if you are hungry like thr Carribean Jerk Chicken. The mahi-mahi sandwich was good and came with potato chips. My kids loved their quesadilla and burrito even if it was their first time eating "tacos", but the meal doesn't include drink. They have a kids menu with a coloring page at the back and they give crayons to make them busy. Haven't actually seen that for awhile so this made me change my mind in giving them 5-star instead of 4. Love restos who think about how challenging it might be to dine-in with little ones. The gulf shrimp taco wasn't as good as I expected, you need to add salsa to make it better. Good thing they offer free 4 different house-made salsas. I tried the mango, it was unique but so-so. Loved the tomato habanero salsa though! If you're ordering to-go, make sure to ask for at least 1 salsa. They have indoor and outdoor seating with red/white umbrella. Eye-catching and easy to find in this food street.

Ira H.

Yelp
The food and service were great. Shrimp paleo was excellent. The brownie with ice cream and chocolate drizzle was amazing! April was our server. She made great recommendations.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was delicious and sitting on the table outside in mid March was fantastic for dinner. What really made it an amazing experience was the service. Told wait time was thirty minutes, was seated in half that. The staff had fantastic suggestions and perfect interactions every time.

Yelp
Great tacos. Ridiculous about the 21 older So we left as I didn't h have my I'd. I'm 58. And we left. No business at 5:30. Change policy!!
google avatar

Michael R.

Yelp
The service was good. The atmosphere was energetic; much like a neighborhood restaurant in Guadalajara, although it's located in downtown Mobile. Odered the mahi mahi and barbacoa tacos. They were both fresh and good. I thought they needed a bit more seasoning, but that's more of a reflection of my preferences. If you're in Mobile for Fat Tuesday (or any reason for that matter), Roosters is a solid place to grab a meal.
