Had a spectacular meal with a great atmosphere and superb service. All the dishes were very creative and well thought out. One great culinary experience! Compliments to the chef who also took the time to write an impromptu happy birthday on my partner’s desert plate! Would definitely visit again and I would love to try the tasting menu which is changing from time to time.

Wow! I am not sure we have enough good words for this place! From being greeted by the head chef, to the super attentive waiting staff we knew we were in for a treat before the food even came out! We were not disappointed, there was a great selection of specials as well as the regular menu, local dishes, fish and so much more! Food recommendations were given when needed, and it was just as impressive when it came out! A great location, fantastic staff and incredible food all rolled into one! We will be back!

Had a wonderful experience dining at Root 81 earlier today. Our waiter had exhaustive knowledge of the menu and wine list - even helping us to pick out a rose wine we loved! His service was outstanding throughout our visit as was our food. Regrettably we didn't get the name of the staff member who looked after us but he elevated an already amazing experience. We hope to be back on our next visit from Australia soon P.S. weather allowing, try to sit outside - the view is spectacular

The food and drinks here are amazing! Unfortunately the experience was diminished by very slow service. Our waiter tried his best, but there was only one waiter for the entire patio, which was not enough. The waiter also refused to seat us at the table we requested because it was “reserved”, but nobody sat there for the entire time we were at the restaurant (>90 minutes).

5/5 (I tried to add this post 6 months ago but an error with google) Root 81 is seriously impressive. They've held a Michelin Star for four straight years, and that speaks volumes. Definitely a top contender for the best dining spot in Malta. I put it in my top 10 in my life time of travels around the world. I make a point to try dine in a few Michelin rated restaurants every where I go. My experience there started off as a lucky accident when another restaurant nearby was closed. The sommelier, Sean, who's a level three, knocked it out of the park with his wine pairings from regional vineyards. They also have this awesome signature cocktail list, focusing on gin and tonic creations and fusions prepared by Mike. I got there a bit early, right before opening, which gave me a chance to enjoy the place more privately. Their seven-course meal was amazing. The chef makes it a point to greet guests, and they even surprised me with a special dessert for my birthday. The highlight for me was the exceptional service, especially when I needed to make a work call. They offered me a quiet space, and Mike kept the cordials coming. All in all, it ranks at the top of my list for dining experiences worldwide. What else is there to know? I’ll let the photos do the talking

Overall, it wasn’t bad. However, for a Michelin-starred establishment, I was expecting a bit more. A few key aspects kept me from rating it higher. The interior feels rather middle-of-the-road, and could do with a bit of a refresh. The service didn’t stand out from what you’d find in any other mid-range restaurant. By way of comparison, there’s a place a few doors down called The Forks and Corks, which offers a considerably better experience across food, service, and atmosphere. As for Root 81, I ordered a crème brûlée for dessert but was instead served something more akin to a rice Christmas pudding. End of story 🙂

The Food was delicious. The Rabbit had some bones in it but it was still very tasty. The view over Malta is nice but the street is busy and it is a bit noisy.

We had a wonderful night here. And the afternoon sun on the balcony was a delight. The presentation and quality of the food were outstanding
