My husband and I recently dined at this charming breakfast spot, and we loved it! The nostalgic décor made us feel as though we’d traveled back in time, creating a comforting atmosphere. The comfort food was delightful; each dish was generous and reminded us of classic breakfasts from our childhoods. The friendly staff added to our experience, allowing us to linger and savor our meal. We highly recommend this gem for anyone seeking a delicious breakfast and a lovely trip down memory lane.

Absolutely loved The Root Cellar Café in New Braunfels! The asparagus fries with homemade ranch were incredible. The savory Belgian waffle with crispy fried chicken and the biscuits and gravy (we added sausage) were both delicious. Finished with a warm brownie and vanilla ice cream, perfect ending. Great atmosphere with beautiful indoor seating and a cute outdoor picnic area. Highly recommend!

Parking was easy, we came and ate on Sunday at 2:00 no wait at all. The place looked clean and felt like I was welcomed into someone’s home. You definitely get what you paid for, food portions are a nice size where you’re full and don’t need a box. I Will definitely be returning and bringing my family when they come to town!

Roots was an awesome experience. There was a bit of a wait time but definitely worth it. The savory waffle was amazing. The chicken was fried and seasoned really well. The butter and light syrup was a perfect combination. Their cold brew was rich and flavorful. The cappuccino was sweetened but still very balanced and flavorful. Their toast was delicious and fulfilling. Highly recommend this place!

This local breakfast, brunch, and lunch spot is an absolute gem. The food was delicious from start to finish, clearly made with care and creativity. One of the highlights was the delightful weekday specials — the soup flight I had today was especially fun and flavorful, offering a great variety and a unique twist you don’t see everywhere. The only downside was a long stretch with an empty water glass, and I did have to request a refill. Aside from that small service hiccup, the overall experience was wonderful. The quality of the food and the thoughtful menu (with lots of vegetarian options, too!) make this a place I’d happily return to and recommend to others.

I wanted to like this place with how aestheticly pleasing it looked and inviting (initially) it was. We got seated outside and waited a solid 15 minutes before I got fed up and had to go inside to get someone's attention. There were 2/3 greeters just chatting away rather than helping navigate our server to our section. Our server eventually came out to get our order (which was fine) but the food overall lacked flavor. I ate the chicken & waffles but the chicken thigh still had that silver skin/membrane on it which made it tough to chew. I'm not one to throw away food so I ate what I could. My son had the chicken strips & potatoes, with the potatoes tasting almost uncooked and lacked seasoning. We also had the chilaquiles which was down right bad, I get that this isn't an authentic Mexican nor a Tex-Mex restaurant but come on, how do you mess up chilaquiles. It's the most simple Mexican dish. Then towards the end of our meal, it felt like our server just forgot about us. The inside of the restaurant was nearly empty which put the cherry on top for me. Waste of money & time.

This is a very cutesy breakfast eatery! The menu is not basic, it's a little upscale. The food was all delicious, our server was very sweet and attentive. The restaurant was right across the street from our hotel, so very convenient to go to. Dogs are allowed on the patio area!

The food as all pretty delicious with generous portions (always appreciated). We took home a good amount of food. The only reason they lose a star is because my meal lacked any sort of seasoning and was basically a big bowl of unseasoned potatoes with an egg on top. The hash needs to have smaller cut potatoes as well as more variety in what is mixed in and needs way more seasoning. Honestly everything else was stellar, so it's possible this was just an oversight on the part of the cooks since they were so busy. We will be back another time when we are willing to brave the wait to eat their delicious offerings!

We ate at The Root Cellar Café here in New Braunfels and it was absolutely delicious from start to finish. We started with the asparagus fries and WOW, they came with homemade ranch that was seriously out of this world. Crispy, perfectly seasoned, and honestly one of my favorite appetizers I've had in a while. For our meals, we tried the savory Belgian waffle with crispy fried chicken, which was cooked perfectly and had so much flavor. We also ordered a full plate of biscuits and gravy and added sausage, so comforting, hearty, and exactly what you want when you're craving a classic brunch-style dish. Of course we couldn't skip dessert, and the warm brownie with vanilla ice cream did not disappoint. Rich, gooey, and the perfect sweet ending. On top of the food, the atmosphere is lovely. They have a super cute outdoor area if you want to picnic, plus lots of beautiful seating inside that makes it feel cozy and welcoming.

The price of the food was crazy. It was $59 for two lunches. The cheeseburger was blood red in the middle, and they acted like it was normal. They didn't take it back and cook it more or comp it. My mind is blown that this place is even in business. I definitely won't be back.

What a delightful Saturday morning brunch. This was our first time at the location in new Braunfels. We've been to the original San Marcos location. We are so glad to find this location. Quite charming old building . We love the trees and the warm vibe. Staff was attentive, kind and knowledgeable. My husband ordered the French toast. It arrived warm, fluffy, and sweet. Alongside his entrée also came a cup of fruit. Attention to detail was given to how the fruit was cut and displayed. Nice touch folks. I ordered the eggs Benedict. Best eggs Benedict I've ever had. Perfect ratio of muffin, Canadian bacon egg and sauce. The poached eggs were clearly done by hand by a skillful chef. Impressed. Delicious and will definitely be on our brunch circuit for the future.

This place is super cute! We got the biscuits and gravy and the biscuit sandwich and both were good! Our lattes were tasty as well. Our waitress was really sweet but we had to wait 10+ minutes after being seated to get waters/order anything. From that point on, service was fast and attentive.

10/10 Beet Burger was fantastic. Side of fresh veggies were so good with the home made ranch.

Rustic charm ambiance, with a cozy vibe. Service staff were warm and welcoming. We've been to the San Marcos location so we were eager to check this one out. While the menu offers a lot of unique dishes and the food is very fresh, we were a bit underwhelmed. Partly our own fault though, so not going to ding the restaurant for this. We started with the Asparagus fries, which we loved, biggest winner at the table. My mom ordered the famous Beet Burger, but without the goat cheese, not her thing. Unfortunately, she didn't ask for a substitution nor was she offered one, so the burger was on the bland side. Her fault, mostly. But she said the beet patty itself didn't taste very much like beets, which was odd. I asked how spicy the Chilaquiles were, since I can't handle really spicy food. The server said they were not very spicy, but I forgot where I was, Texas, not Michigan. They were not very spicy for Texas, but were very spicy for Michigan! They were delicious, but I could only eat a small portion due to the heat. I was bummed, but again, my own fault. They were too spicy for all of us, so we didn't even take the leftovers home, sadly. I have had this issue before when ordering in Texas, I know better, but made that rookie mistake yet again. My hubby had a sandwich he liked, but didn't love. My dad had the Brazilian French Toast and loved it. Great service overall and still a pleasant experience overall.

I come here all the time. They have the best beet burger around. Great service and check out my pic. Look how fresh and healthy that beet burger looks. Love the atmosphere here too. Their check-in area is an old ice chest from the early 1900's. So cute. And thy have an old fridge that is just so beautiful. Everything here is just great. Love this place.

Very poor kitchen management. 45 minutes to get a waffle , eggs and potatoes. The potatoes are food service from the freezer to the fryer. The eggs were sprinkled with a weird seasoning salt. Overall overpriced for mediocre food at best. Nowhere near the quality of San Marcos. $58 bucks I won't go back for a very less than average meal. No appeal here. Waste of hard earned money. I don't mind paying for good food but Denny's quality----no thank you

Cool little cafe. Service was great, very attentive. The food was delicious and portion sizes were large. Only downside was it took quite a while to get our food, it was worth the wait though.

Save you time and money. I had the burbon pecan crusted chicken, and left 75% of it on the plate

Breakfast was okay maybe because of what I ordered but the cafe is nice looking and there was only two girls staffing and a large party in the morning maybe for a business breakfast looked like. I would give another try and maybe get something else

Food was good, server Debra was excellent and friendly. Definitely, we'll come back and try other items on the menu. The atmosphere was cozy.

We ate at the bar and we're well served. We ate all the things, Brussel sprouts, pesto pasta with chicken and a tender chicken sandwich on a fluffy chibata bun. Our cocktails were fun, strawberry basil mimosa and a limey gin drink. All food was made by experts! The ambience is a cozy farm house. We'll return for the dinner menu! Ps the snickerdoodle bread pudding is mandatory!

We had heard good things about the Root Cellar so we decided to give it a try. This place didn't disappoint at all. I had the chilaquiles with carnitas and they're easily the best, most-authentic ones I've had since we moved to Texas a couple of years ago. Service is always friendly, attentive and considerate (they aleays pamper Luna, our Siberian Husky).

Food service and experience is fantastic. The beet burger is such a creative option and really everything I've tried is superb. One of the best old fashioneds in town.

This restaurant is a treasure! So good. Such nice wait staff. We stopped in between softball games for our granddaughter. It was all delicious. Some had lunch, some breakfast. Will not disappoint.

This is such a cute place and their cold brew is delicious! However the food and service left a lot to be desired. I went with my parents before it was even busy and we didn't see our server much for water or coffee refills. The portions were big, but the flavor was lacking. It also seemed like everything was an add-on charge. They asked if sunny side up was okay for my hash and I asked for poached- up charge, so Nevermind. My moms got the hill country breakfast, and while it was massive, there was a drizzle of cold gravy on it- not enough for the huge biscuits. She asked for more and some that was hot- another upcharge. Not sure I'd be back as it wasn't that memorable. I think I'll stick to the one in San Marcos.

We stopped here for dinner on a Saturday night. We love the one in San Marcos & this location did not disappoint. There was no wait for a table for dinner at around 7:30pm which was refreshing. The building is cute, clean & airy with many windows. The landscaping around the building has so many beautiful live oak trees. The bathroom was super cute & handicap accessible. Fonda waited on us & kept our water glasses filled. She was attentive & friendly. The food came out quickly. I had my favorite: seared salmon with balsamic rice & vegetables. I love the tangy vinaigrette on the side salad. I wish they served a side of the eggplant chips that they put on top of the salmon. Those are amazing! We had the brownie with ice cream for dessert & the fresh whipped topping was the best. Everything was wonderful. This place is a great date night meal.

The service was amazing out the door. Very friendly servers. I ordered the savory Belgian waffles the siracha honey was fire! So so yummy! They have a full espresso With delicious coffee!! I was so happy to find a good breakfast place with real coffee not just drip. Hope y'all enjoy your visit as much as I did

I'm still dreaming about the shrimp pesto like I'm literally obsessed with it. Came here with some family friends & we made a reservation but you honestly don't have to. The vibe is kinda like a modern farmhouse but let me tell you the service, drinks and food were amazing. I'd also HIGHLY recommend the butter + bread, and don't be modest get 2 of them. You won't regret it!!!

So, I have been here for breakfast but I never made it back for dinner. Well, now I know I plan to be back many times. Just want to share this story first. A group of my pickleball friends planned to meet for lunch there. I got there first and was told they were closing for something unexpected happening. No biggie. Easy to understand those things happen. Well, they gave me a $10 gift card for not being able to have me dine there at the moment. They also offered a serving of bread pudding!! Man, that is great customer service. They left me with a great impression of them even though I wasn't able to eat there. We went for dinner last night and loved it. We had the Asparagus fries which were yummy! I would only suggest for it to be a larger amount. We also had the Spinach Artichoke Dip. That was very good and loved their chips. A Sausage Potato Chowder and Side Salad were ordered. I did not order them but could tell that my guys were impressed with them. I ordered the Salmon with Balsamic Glaze over Rice Pilaf and Veggies. Salmon and glaze were great. The Rice Pilaf was perfectly prepared which is not something I can always say. And I loved the veggies. My guys both ordered the Pot Roast. I never understand why they would order that in a restaurant because I make a really, really good Pot Roast. They have ordered in the past and always disappointed. Not here!! Oh my gosh, it was really good!! Different from mine and most pot roasts. The green beans were perfectly prepared as well. I cannot stand mushy veggies. These were al dente perfect. We cannot wait to go back.

I traveled to the New Braunfels location last week to try some try a this restaurant because I am thinking of hiring this catering company to do my wedding. Service was a little rough getting seated and served the correct drinks. The waiter informed us of what was in season and we order some great meals. Not pictured is my salad or what is left of it. I was hungry but I can assure you the food was all that good.

Service was great. We were welcomed and seated right away. Our drinks were taken promptly. Our food was great! Hill Country Breakfast didn't disappoint. Gravy is my favorite. Good flavor, right hunt if jalapeño without being spicy. Biscuit was nice thickness. I'm not a potato person but the homefries were a good crispness!

We frequent the Root Cellar in San Marcos so we were excited when they opened one closer to home. We were meeting friends tonight so figured it would be the perfect time to check them out. Reserving a table was pretty easy. Loved the location, loved the ambience. Our server was pretty chill, entertaining and was always on top of things. I did not even need to look at the menu because I knew exactly what I wanted - crispy fried Brussels sprouts for appetizer and shrimp n grits. Yup! I dream about their shrimp and grits. We also ordered beer bread with honey butter, a brew house burger(another favorite), a chicken fried ribeye steak and blackened mahi-mahi tacos. I also tried their Bee sting cocktail. The Brussels sprouts were as expected, crunchy and delicious. The beer bread was pretty good too. I wish I could say the same of the entrees. I was told the chicken fried ribeye was ok. The mahi tacos got an " ok, I guess" . The usual brewhouse burger loving person in our group thought it was just an ordinary burger, no bacon tomato jam. The biggest disappointment though was the shrimp n grits. The shrimps were cooked perfectly but the grits was not creamy at all, it was dry. It was topped with what I thought was either pieces of crispy bacon or spam or pancetta, not chorizo. This definitely was not the same shrimp n grits that I love. I am not ashamed to say that at the San Marcos location, I lick the bowl clean. Here, 80% came home with me. Except for the chicken ribeye steak, everything else ended in to-go boxes. The Bee sting was ok too but it's not something I will order again. At this time, we would rate the service a 5* and the food 3*.

We came here for dinner yesterday (Saturday) around 5:15 and were seated immediately and without a reservation, which was nice. Although when we left around 6 at that point they did have a little bit of a wait. Our server was Fonda and she did a great job taking care of us. As for the food, it was all delicious! The hummus appetizer with half chips half pita was on point. The crab cakes were a little pricey but also solid. The entrees were also very good. I haven't had chicken fried ribeye before, but trying that with mashed potatoes was made for a very good entree. My fiancé also liked her bourbon pecan chicken entree as well. We also tried the snickerdoodle bread pudding dessert, which my fiancé enjoyed (I personally am not the biggest fan of bread pudding, but people who like bread pudding would probably enjoy it). Overall, it was a great experience! We would come back again.

Our food was delicious, we started with the Brussel sprouts, had the French toast and steak and eggs. But our most enjoyable part of the experience was our server. Kamryn was awesome! Very attentive, made substitutes that she could had easily said "we can't do that to". Very professional and cool at the same time.

Wait staff was good. Food was good. The place is so loud. I think they should do something about absorbing some of the sound. I would go back. I just know what to expect.

Stopped in for breakfast and sat at the bar -- great choice, place was on a 30 min wait. The vibe was relaxed, and Gummy behind the bar was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. We had the eggs, grits, and avocado toast, and everything was spot on. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the grits were creamy and well-seasoned. The avocado toast had that perfect balance of freshness and crunch. You can tell they use quality ingredients. Coffee was hot, which I always appreciate when I'm at the bar. Overall, it's the kind of place that makes you want to linger a little longer -- comfortable, welcoming, and consistently good food. Definitely a spot I'll come back to and try the lunch!

The food is so delicious - I mean the chicken and waffles and the Hill country (biscuits and gravy) are to die for. Everyone here is so attentive and fast! The coffee is the best around - like I LOVE this place!! Hands down the best breakfast! Did someone say mimosas?? So delicious and reasonably priced! Bring your friends and enjoy a good time - you will thank me!

What a wonderful hidden gem in New Braunfels! I really like the vibe of this place-very homey. We had a large group that we were entertaining, and they put us in the private room in the back which was perfect. Food and drinks were excellent, along with our service-can't ask for more than that. The food is made from scratch and you can definitely taste the difference in the quality of food here. I had the Better Than Mom's meatloaf and it was absolutely delectable. It was really moist and tender, and not dried out at all-I would absolutely recommend this dish. Check this place out!

After checking reviews I decided to check out the restaurant myself on a Monday (midmorning). Few people, but tables filled over the hour I was there. Server Jordan was pleasant and attentive. Her smile set a nice tone for my breakfast. The Hill Country Breakfast was good. The serving was generous. The black coffee actually tasted like coffee - a plus for me. My only negative would be how loud it became inside, especially when young children with very loud voices were seated nearby. Their mothers spoke loudly as well. Oh well, I'll have to come earlier next time. : )

Food was amazing!! The French toast was made with challah and tossed in cinnamon sugar. Good even without the syrup. The eggs Benedict was cooked to perfection and the potatoes were super crispy and delicious. Trevor and Debrah gave amazing service and the restaurant is comfy and cozy, perfect for this cold rainy weather.

First and foremost: THANK YOU, ELLA! It's so rare to have perfectly timed service that's neither too intrusive, nor too aloof. She never came while our mouths were full of food, either! The food... OMG! First of all, those brussel sprouts with tomato bacon jam were delicious! Personally, I wanted to try all of the appetizers, but I knew I didn't have the stomach to finish it all. I definitely made the right choice by going for those brussel sprouts, though. I'll have to try the asparagus fries next time... *le sigh* My friend got the Caribbean stacker and I got the marinated eggplant sandwich. Perhaps I'm biased, but my sandwich was utterly perfect in every way! Hers was delicious for the carnivore in dire need of protein, but mine was delicious from the bottom slice to the top of that wheatberry bread sandwich. Do I need to go back? Absolutely! Next time, I'm going for asparagus and the beet & goat cheese salad. Don't be surprised if I'm back in soon. #JustSayin

This is one of those places that I'd like to keep a secret so I don't have to wait to be seated! But it's so good and the service is fantastic, they deserve the recognition and business. Their sausage patties and jalapeño cream gravy are my whole reason for Saturday mornings! Coffee stays full, even with a splash of Bailey's in it. ;)

Came in during the rush looking for a hearty breakfast. Sat at the bar to avoid the wait where our order was promptly and politely taken. For those of you not wanting booze with your breakfast there is a plethora of juices. I had apple juice, cold and crisp in a mason jar. Later I had a coffee that was both smooth and refreshing. However!! If you find yourself wanting to pair your plate with a pint, a spritz or something to make you rosey cheeked. Their selection of whiskeys is quite impressive as is the mixed/specialty drink list. For breakfast I want with the smokehouse hash! From order to food hitting the table took about 12 minutes. Pros: that kale was the bees knees. Along with the whole plate all the flavors both natural and added were really good! I could eat that every day! Cons: I only got a few slices of sausage that I didn't see until the bottom. Flavor was fantastic, but I feel it wasn't used as well in the contextual mix of the dish. Would have enjoyed a slice or two more in the bowl. All in all, really good stuff! Next time Im exploring the mixed drinks and getting a waffle! Well done yall!

Everything priced on menus was $1.50-2 more on receipt so check that out if you do try this place! Other than that it was pretty good!

My girlfriends and I came in for brunch. From the time we walked in the door until the time we left out, everyone working, there were extremely welcoming and very nice. Our waitress, I forgot her name, was awesome! She was attentive to everyone's needs, and kept refilling our drinks as they became low. The food was amazing! I ordered the Brazilian French toast with a side of bacon and eggs. Everything came out hot and fresh. They gave me plentiful French toast that I could have taken some home. This was my first time coming here, but definitely will not be my last! I recommend anyone looking for a good meal in a wonderful atmosphere to come here. You will not be disappointed.
