"Brad Root’s refined spot in a strip mall off 192nd regularly attracts executives and lawyers from the nearby corporate offices for business lunches and dinners. Elegant dishes made from locally sourced ingredients draw the casual business-attired regulars looking to impress visiting clients. Here, diners can find dishes like cream of spinach soup with beet chips, spring risotto with asparagus and snap peas, or Lan Roc pork loin with white cheddar gratin." - Rachel Pinsky

Loved the whole experience. Husband and I had our 3rd date night since our new baby arrived! I didn’t get a chance to take a picture of the steak. It looked so good and I was too hungry. 🤤

Roots has amazing cocktails & food. Service has always been stellar and consistent. The ambiance is comforting and modern—dim lighting, soft music, and romantic atmosphere. Rich was our first & favorite server. Roots is hands down one of the best places to have a romantic dinner in Camas. The booth seating is cozy. Restrooms are clean & well maintained. Parking is always plenty. I'll post more pics as we continue to stop by... especially for the seasonal menu items.

We had plans at another place but they were fully booked, so we ended up coming here on the recommendation of a friend. We were very pleasantly surprised. Everything was phenomenal, and the service was excellent. We'll definitely be coming back. One thing, I wish I'd asked the price of the special. I was shocked to see the rack of lamb was $75. It was worth it to be sure, the best I've ever had, but a surprise nonetheless.

I came here for the first time with my dad tonight as a very belated birthday & Father’s Day for him (his suggestion since he loves it here) and WOW, was I impressed. The service was amazing and the food & drinks were FANTASTIC. I ordered the 12oz ribeye with an Oregon Strawberry (drink) and my dad got the Dungeness crab and avocado with a side of prawns with a Tito’s and soda. I can’t remember the last time I’ve had such a flavorful, perfectly cooked, and tender steak. The veggies accompanying it were cooked and seasoned to perfection as well. I fully cleaned my plate, which I was not expecting to do with that much food. I will absolutely be returning and intend to tell all of my friends because I haven’t found a spot anywhere near here with such good steak until tonight!

We have been going to Roots at least once a week for most of our 20 years in Camas (except the dark dismal year of the pandemic). It’s hands down our favorite place to relax, enjoy cocktails, wine (maybe both), great atmosphere, wonderful service, and ALWAYS some of the best food around. From Dungeness crab & avocado salad with a vermouth vinaigrette I have tried for 20 years to recreate, to the always perfect pan seared halibut, melt in your mouth buttery short ribs, and gorgeous tender juicy filet with housemade Worcestershire sauce, we keep coming back for more and are never less than blown away. We have come to savor the “Brad Root Bite”, taking a bit of each element served, meat, veg, sauce, starch, all on the fork at once, to enjoy the magical alchemy Roots has mastered in its compositions. And if given the chance, we NEVER pass on a small plate creation offered by young Chef Nate (the Great). His offerings are unique, fun and out of this world flavorful. Desserts, wines, wonderful cocktails, yes. All of it. Special occasions, yes. This is the one place our son wanted to come celebrate his 21st birthday, with good friends and great food. We cant recommend Roots enough.

We always have a fantastic meal here. The staff is very friendly and food comes out quick. Always excited to try something new on their menu. The coffee is absolutely out of this world as well. They brew a stellar cup!

Great service and the food was awesome! A nice Thursday-nite vibe... Not loud or packed.

Loved the experience, the wine cards are very creative. I’ve never seen that and I think everyone should do them.

Yelp
Came here as a guest to a company party. It is a fancier fine dining restaurant. Very modern & nice atmosphere. For appetizer we got gnocchi which had a heavy garlic flavor, so delicious for a garlic lover like me. We also got some scallops which were good even though there were just 3 & there were 4 of us at the table. Got the salmon which was really good, seasoned perfectly. I got really excited that they had chocolate souffle on the menu as that is one my favorite desserts. Also got a The thing with this is that I"m used it being served on a plate, so as you cut into it chocolate oozes out. However, this was served in a cup, a bit underwhelming. I get it, no chocolate is waster that, but that ooze is my favorite part. It was kinda more like a cake inside, just ok in my opinion. Overall great quality food & service was good as well. Service was really

Yelp
We are new to the area and so glad to find Roots. We had a delicious Mother's Day dinner splitting the spinach salad and wild Alaskan salmon. Service was great even after a busy Mother's day. Atmosphere was lively and the best Old Fashioned! Highly recommend

Becky J.

Yelp
Hubby & I stopped in for nightcap. Ordered fries, beer and manhattan. Fries and beer were good, Manhattan was disappointing. Ordered Blanton's (high end) for the manhattan. Bartender added several shakes of bitters (saw him do this). Bitters totally dominated the cocktail. Should have sent it back but got into discussions with bar neighbor. As we were paying bartender asked if everything was okay. Told him everything was good except the manhattan was overly bittered. Rather than acknowledging, hearing what we said, open to discussion, he defended himself saying he only added a few drops - period, no apologies. $25 for a top shelf bourbon manhattan that could have been a cheap bourbon since it was completely over powered by the bitters. Left some in the glass - never going back.

Yelp
As usual the food was amazing and excellent service. The scallop appetizer with strawberry and arugula was off the charts. Halibut was like eating delicate crab meat.....so tasty and tender. Excellent food.....kudos to Brad & Rich your chefs are outstanding.

Dianna M.

Yelp
We brought my mother-in-law here for Mother's Day brunch. We thought it was a pretty solid choice after reading the rave reviews. Maybe we were just here on an off day? Our server was Andrew, he was friendly and kind. We started off with the beignets = highlight of the meal. For our mains we selected corned beef hash, eggs Benedict and pancakes. The corned beef hash had big chunks of (fatty) corned beef in it and it was difficult to eat. The eggs Benedict = average and the pancakes were cooked well. Service was undeniably spotty, yet our busboy was ever present refilling our water and coffee. Taking everything into consideration our experience was closer to 21/2 stars.

Christina D.

Yelp
The Atmosphere and Service is Great! The Food is Incredible. I had the Halibut and it was cooked to Perfection. It melted in my mouth. The Short Ribs, Pork Chops and Salmon were all Terrific as well. My Favorite, The Peach and Blueberry Cobbler w/ Vanilla bean ice cream was so Delicious and Fresh. The warm Toffee Cake and Crème Brûlée was also Bursting with Flavor and Creamy Goodness. This is a nice place to Celebrate any Special occasion or just have a nice meal. Enjo

Yelp
A favorite place with lots of good food. It's nice to eat in the bar area or the dining area. A great place with a separate dining area for a group dinner. Bright with a nice open feel in the daytime as well as subtle lighting at night. Always a pleasure going there

Joanne M.

Yelp
Excellent food and professional service. Crab appetizer was to die for. Halibut was enjoyed by all. Short ribs were more like pot roast and a little dry. Has outdoor seating which we liked as it was a nice warm evening. Would definitely return.

Charles H.

Yelp
Great restaurant. Quality food and service. If you're looking for a wonderful five-star dining experience in Vancouver, you can't go wrong at Roots.

Karina G.

Yelp
Came on a Sunday morning for a lovely brunch! We always had gone for dinner, which is always amazing. Let me tell you, the brunch will not disappoint, it's just as fabulous!! The portions are huge, and the food quality is absolutely perfect! On this visit we started with the German pancake to start, my son got the fork and knife, which is a fried chicken breast with homemade biscuits, The Eggs Benedict, and the goat cheese open face omelett! Everything was outstanding!

Serena H.

Yelp
First time at this restaurant and the food was very tasty, especially the scallops. That was the best. The Yorkshire pudding (think deep fried bread in suet) did not need to be part of the braised ribs entree. There was already a lot of food. The beet salad had a fair amount of beets but the plating was off. There were both slices and cubes, and the slices stuck to the bottom of the dish. As for fine dining in the SW Washington state area, there just aren't a lot of choices in our sprawling county. Please raise the brightness of the lights at dinner time or at least have lights for each table. Couldn't read the menu.

Carrie G.

Yelp
Love roots- Best steak, heirloom tomatoes, and drinks. Service is fabulous. This is my go to, and I'm never disappointed.

Tami H.

Yelp
We love this place. The service is always top notch, friendly and welcoming. The food never disappoints.

Rhonda H.

Yelp
I can't say enough great things. They were able to accommodate a last minute party change from 4 to 7 people, didn't rush our finish of a special occasion celebration and the food and service were absolutely superb. Our server Andy was attentive without hovering and very gracious about us accidentally staying longer than we should (we thought they closed later than actual close time. Will definitely be back (and not stay past close next time)!

Jimmy B.

Yelp
What can you say about a little restaurant in a strip mall in Camas? OMG SO GOOD! I'm in town for business for a few days, and was looking for a casual place to eat. My nephew recommended Roots. Yes it's casual, with sn understated yet nice atmosphere, and a menu that includes a great mix of traditional dishes as well as some very creative twists on a variety of items. The wine list is pretty good as well and the their specialty cocktails look inviting...but I'll stick to my gin & tonic. I had the filet mignon which was seasoned and cooked perfectly, My nephew had the risotto with grilled shrimp that presented like a piece of art and he said was great as well. Our sever Andrew was fantastic, the meal was exceptional, and the overall value based on price and quality was damn good. If you're anywhere near (or far) from Camas, Roots is worth the trip. Roots will be my "go to" for a great meal whenever I'm in town.

Yelp
If you can't see the forest for the trees, try looking for the Roots! I don't remember where I heard it, or who told me, but some statement lingering in the back of my head informed me that Roots was considered among the best restaurants in Clark County, if not *the* best. Prior to this last weekend, I'd never put this opinion to the test. Although we only came in for a (staggered) brunch, I have to say that thus far, my wife and I are quite impressed, and Roots definitely is in the running for the title. I had an appointment at the chiropractic/massage clinic nearby, so my wife took the vanguard position and settled in for Crab Benedict and a cocktail while I was kneaded back into shape like a sourdough starter. By the time I caught up with her, she had rave reviews about everything, from the service (swift, polite and impeccable!), to her incredibly delicious breakfast, and the French Gimlet cocktail (her 2nd). I joined her by ordering a bowl of the soup du jour, a Cream of Asparagus with some sort of pistachio crema garnish, which blended surprisingly well. Coupled with a Bloody Mary, and my freshly tenderized back muscles, I was feeling pretty good by the end of it all. Brunch is one of those meals that doesn't get a lot of traction with me, as most places serve up their iteration of the same old thing, pretty much everywhere you go. And yet, every aspect of the experience here was enough to wow us into a return visit, far sooner than later. We suspect that this establishment truly shines during dinner service, so on our next visit, we hope to get to the root of what makes Roots as revered as it is. I'm sure we won't be disappointed, if this visit is any indication.

Liane C.

Yelp
Food is wonderful and the decor and service our outstanding. Great special occasions place

Janeen B.

Yelp
Five star food. Everything was incredible. Well seasoned and served perfectly cooked. From the chicken livers to steak. Relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. Tried a variety of cocktails including espresso martini and old fashioned. All were winners. Service was smooth and efficient. Spendier but you get what you pay for and it's worth it.

Suzie M.

Yelp
We love this local restaurant and bar! They know us by name (who says customer service is gone, not here) the hospitality and food is excellent! Cheers!

Brittany G.

Yelp
This is an odd one. I've been to roots many many times over the course of around 10 years and overall liked it. Had a company party dinner there that was exquisite (we were in a smaller private room). Visited many happy hours, dinners, and lunch. Everything has been good but nothing that stood out other than at the company dinner (rib-eye if memory serves. So here is the cause for the one star: Mistakenly at my recommendation, I told my closest friends about roots as a cute location to do a celebratory dinner between three women, who one of which would be asking the others to be their made of honor. This was most certainly not a sorority type behavior, but an elegant and classy proposal. Our server became agitated over the questions regarding beverage selection, as I wanted a nice Italian Prosecco. We also had questions about some of the preparation of the meats and the risotto. They were not obnoxious but simple inquiries. We all ordered exactly what we had asked about. I understand risotto can be difficult for some, but this particular dish was nothing short of awful. I tried to make do, but in the end, I asked them to remove it. Everyone else was nearly done with their meals, so I didn't re-order. I also have had gastric sleeve surgery so I don't eat as much and the food had already made me feel nauseous. The waiter was extremely annoyed, and walked away before I even finished explaining and without offering to replace. There were only small bites out of the dish. He did. It remove it from the bill. My friends and I are of a diverse group, each of us of a different cultural background. I absolutely feel that this had to do with the way that we were treated. I didn't end up signing the receipt but I did run my card because I had hoped to talk to a manager first. When I had asked, I am completely ignored and we left the restaurant. I was horrified I recommended this location for such a special gathering (3) women. It's taken me awhile to write this but I think of it often as I live close by. It's shameful to treat your customers that way and people in general.

Melissa R.

Yelp
Went on a Monday night for a birthday dinner. We made a reservation but there were plenty of tables for walk-in service. Everything was delicious! We had the mussels and gnocchi as appetizers and there was a special scallop appetizer as well. For the entree we split the short ribs and it was also delicious. Out of everything we had the mussels were my least favorite which is saying a lot because I LOVE mussels, they had a more wine forward broth and I prefer a butter / cream forward broth. Service was friendly and attentive!

Natalie H.

Yelp
Been here many, many times. I've loved every single thing I've ever ordered. It my favorite restaurant in Vancouver area.

James G.

Yelp
This is our go to restaurant on the east side of Vancouver or west side of Camas. We live close. We have been here 20 times over the years. There is not one thing on the menu that is even marginal. I guarantee you will like this place! The service is excellent and the servers are all long time employees with exceptional knowledge of the menu. Some of my favorites are the crab appetizer served over avocado with radish sprouts and a vermouth vinaigrette, slow cooked short rib dinner over mashed potatoes with an amazing sauce. They also serve breakfast on the weekends with an amazing corned beef hash and great eggs Benedict. Go online and check out the menu. Be mindful of the hours as they have a later schedule on Monday through Wednesday.

Margaret R.

Yelp
Very expensive. Service is good, food is good but the wait is long. I have been there at least 7 x. Always satisfied but not comfortable with the expense.

Shannon R.

Yelp
The food and service is amazing! It is a bit above our usual budget, so we come here on special occasions.

Angelica A.

Yelp
Came to Roots on a Friday for the first time with my husband. I love that they utilize Open Table for reservations which is always a sigh of relief for a busy weekend. The restaurant inside is nice, intimate lighting and we were greeted warmly! We sat in a bar booth for Happy Hour. We ordered two drinks - the grilled shrimp cocktail - the Salmon meal and the Pork chop meal - with the creme brûlée for dessert / they also bring bread and butter. I was thoroughly blown away with the level of finesse, skills and plating in these dishes. My pork chop cane with spatzel and cabbage and it was perfection! So impressed with these dishes and flavor profiles! The restaurant is on the pricey side - but was definitely worth the money. Great food and great serv

Phil L.

Yelp
Roots continues to deliver excellent food and great service. A nice feature is changing the menu to coincide with seasonal changes.

Dana C.

Yelp
I don't typically write reviews but I think it needs to be known this is the BEST restaurant. If you want a true NW dinner this is your place. The menu is seasonal, which I love! From the perfectly cooked halibut, salmon or steak they won't disappoint and the old fashioned...perfect! Whether you are celebrating a special occasion, business or just want to treat yourself to a perfect meal look not further you found it. Enjoy

Lori H.

Yelp
Met family here for lunch on a Saturday at noon. I made reservations through Open Table, in advance, since we had a party of 6. Upon arrival, our table was ready and members of our party were seated as they arrived. The interior decor was modern, and the restaurant clean. They are located in a strip mall so there's plenty of parking available. The two restrooms were unisex and very clean. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Our party ordered a variety of menu items, including avacado toast with salmon lox, turkey sandwich with fries, fried oysters with slaw, knife and fork crispy chicken biscuit, and fish and chips. Everything was delicious! I think the favorite at the table was the knife and fork crispy chicken biscuit. It came with a perfectly cooked egg, bacon, sausage gravy and home fries. VERY good! Overall our first experience here was wonderful, and we'll definitely be returning. Highly recommend!

LauriJean A.

Yelp
Food is 5 star but the price !! We are no strangers to paying for a good meal , but this was even over our comfortable price .Dinner and drinks for 2 .... $250 before tip ....

Bob H.

Yelp
Here is a neighborhood restaurant that is 5 stars. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. They have a fun menu, but it isn't large. It is quality. We've taken many friends there for dinner and we all have walked away happy. Don't forget dessert. Also, they have an outstanding wine list.

stephanie b.

Yelp
Very nice ambiance. We sat in the bar, but ordered a full meal. Our server was excellent. It's definitely a little pricey, but the food and drinks are worth it.

Molly M.

Yelp
Delicious cocktails and food and nice to have a place in this neighborhood that feels like I can go for a special occasion or a last minute stop in.

Scott H.

Yelp
My uncle took everyone out to dinner for my aunts birthday so I was happy to have a free mmeal for my son and I. That being said it cuts some mercy on my review. We had a large party and the service was very attentive. On the one hand I don't know why anyone would bring a small child here. On the other hand I did and I was not super impressed. He had the pasta and cheddar which was as advertised, pasta and cheddar. However nothing else. It was decent pasta too. Definitely worthy of the steep price tag but with not fruits or vegetables as part of the kids meal. Come on I do appreciate something better than mini corn dogs but I understand if no children actually eat here. Like the articles in adult magazines I got the pork and I got it for the accoutrements. Even though I was being treated I had a hard time abiding with the steak price and lame accoutrements. It was a good dish. Cooked perfectly, well seasoned with appropriate and flavorful sides. Just freaking expensive. Spending my own money, extremely unlikely I would return but a good meal to be treated to

L C.

Yelp
$35 corking fee!!! This is the highest corking fee we have ever encountered. Lost us as a customer! We love the staff!

Dave D.

Yelp
Went here for a late lunch with 3 other buddies. When I asked the hostess what was her favorite thing on the menu she said Fish and Chips without hesitation. We'll...all 4 of us ordered the Fish and Chips and loved them! Throw in a few Craft Beers and the best Arnold Palmer I think I've ever had and you a great meal! Wish this wasn't so far away from me as I'd go back in a heartbeat to try other options. A friend lives 15 minutes away and said he was coming back this weekend with his wife. Great staff, pleasant and friendly and service was spot on. Give them a try!!!

Christine G.

Yelp
Mixed review. I had a spinach salad that was meh. It was actually pretty blah. My friend had the mussels and he devoured them. The service was very attentive though.

Barbara W.

Yelp
Some of the best food I have eaten in this area. I am not easy to please and only write reviews when food is outstanding or service. It's always fresh with great ingredients and plated beautiful. A little $$ but wroth the money I have eaten at Roots many times. Also happy hour is great!!

Kim B.

Yelp
One of our few main stays that have maintained consistent with food and quality since covid. Yes prices are higher but let's be honest.... They have to spend more on product as well and absolutely anyone who owns a business or is business savvy should understand they are not in the industry to loose money. I personally don't mind spending a little more to not have to cook or clean. Keep it up Roots!!!!

J G.

Yelp
The halibit is yummy, but the interior needs some deep cleaning. The ceiling vents are filthy.

Jon S.

Yelp
Just wanted to say thank you for getting us in last minute for a family birthday celebration. Loved the new menu Loved the old menu And Roots staff always ( always ) makes our time there very special

Kat S.

Yelp
Although in my heart of hearts I truly believe I can grill the best stake; Roots makes me look like a absolute fool standing near a grill. I never fail to cry of joy after ever single bite of the filet. This stake deserves all the lone ink the world. If my husband wanted to leave me for a bite of the stake at roots it would be impossible to be mad. The Bar tender is phenomenal so is every singe one of the waiters. I could not be more pleased.

Dorota C.

Yelp
Very disappointing visit. I've been to this place a few times and it was always a good experience. Our last visit felt very different. We ordered the eggs Benedict and all three dishes arrived with solid hard eggs, on top of that all we could taste was vinegar in the hollandaise sauce and the potatoes were old and dry. In addition to this, general hygiene seems to have dropped - even the toilets were noticeably dirty. Not sure if it's a management change but it doesn't have the quality that it used to so we won't be going back in a hurry.

Todd T.

Yelp
Ordered a medium rare steak and it came out practically uncooked. For the price, you'd think they would be able to cook a steak properly.

Patrick O.

Yelp
Great ambiance, food choices were a good variety. The steaks and chips my party had were complimented highly.

Masha A.

Yelp
It seems to be kind of nice place, but eventually almost every visit turns out to be a disappointment. These time went to a brunch with friends. My corn beef hash was soaking in the oil, poached eggs overcooked and hard. Last time when I really enjoyed this place was probably 3 years ago. Rice with chicken was AMAZING. But there was a change in the chef ever since.

Julie Z.

Yelp
Amazing from start to finish!! From amazing friendly service to great ambiance! Best steaks in town and d!! Ish desserts! So glad I found this spot! Can't wait to take friends and family here

Kayoko K.

Yelp
Good food and good atmosphere. Even it tells bar, unlike the sports bar. The service is also good. The mussel dish is very fresh!

Scott P.

Yelp
A great spot! This restaurant "saved us" from a disappointing start to our vacation. My son and I began our motorcycle tour of the Hood River Valley in Camas on a 95 degree plus afternoon. After his long flight from Boston we headed (by motorcycle) for a quality meal in Camas. Our first stop (at another highly rated Camas restaurant) was a disaster including poor, unimaginative food reminding me of Cisco fare. I wanted to just "tough it out" and stay, but my 17 year old son insisted we could do better - and the work putting on all our riding gear once we found a quality spot to dine. So we replaced all of our heavy gear, ventured out into the oppressive heat and departed on our motorcycles once again. An Oasis What we discovered (thankfully) at Roots was an oasis of quality food, served in a comfortable atmosphere offering attentive professional service. The food was fresh, high quality and true farm-to-table fare. Additionally, we found the menu selection was inspiring. Since we are originally from the New England area - the mussels were one of our choices. And the mussels were prepared perfectly! The caprese salad with farm fresh tomatoes, fresh fragrant basil was perfect! The rest of the dinner was terrific, and exactly what we'd expect based upon the images shown on yelp, and the 4.5 rating "earned" by yelp reviewers. I'm not sure how the other restaurant "earned?" 4.5 stars. I'd like to think it's attributed to a less-than-experienced dining (voting) crowd rather than some nefarious ballot box stuffing. Regardless - it's hard to imagine Roots wouldn't be a 10* if the other spot we dined at is considered a 4.5. If you love fresh, high quality food, I think you'll like it here. We left with a smile and a pat-on-the-back to ourselves for literally "going the extra mile" and departing "average" in search of "exceptional!"

Kara C.

Yelp
They are artists so good!! We had the buttered rum and apple pie cocktails, spinach salad (they split in two for us without us even asking ), mussels, salmon and steak. It was all sooooo delicious. I have to omit dairy and they were so kind about it. The spinach salad has shredded hard boiled egg that looks like cheese but wasn't. I personally loved the salmon most. It has so much flavor in the mushrooms. The sweet potatoes with salmon is such a good combo. We left very happy feeling like we experienced something special and unique with proficient staff. Will be back!
