Matilda was my stylist today for a cut and color. This was my first time working with her and I wasn't disappointed. We had great conversation, she was personable and made me feel very comfortable. Let me not forget to mention she nailed my hair color and I absolutely love my hair cut! Looking forward to working with her again in the near future.

Had my eyebrows waxed and they were made into straight lines, completely losing my natural shape. Short consultation, no clear questions were asked. As a cosmetologist myself, I had some red flags with how the soft wax was used. My skin was not pulled tight when removing the strips, the application of the strip onto the wax was incorrect, and my skin was not pulled when she went into pluck either. Will need to fill in my eyebrows until they grow in more.

I've used this salon for a number of years because it was convenient. I have seen six or more stylists there in that short period of time because the turnover is so high. A lot of the stylists there have limited experience and it’s no better than super cuts or great clips, just more expensive. Their rewards program is just a waste of money, very difficult to use. This place is poorly managed, and the communication is just as poor. Two weeks ago my 18 year old daughter went to get a basic cut before leaving for college. Normally we go together and I handle the checkout/paying. This time she went alone and they took advantage of the fact she didn't understand how to tip on services but not the purchase of the product. Chloe at the checkout stayed quiet while allowing my daughter to add a 20% tip to not only the service, but also the very expensive shampoo, conditioner and other product which was purchased. As soon as she got home and gave me the receipt I noticed the very large tip (34%) and pointed out to her what had happened. I called the salon a few minutes later and the response was basically, "too bad, she tipped what she tipped and she should have known she was also tipping on the product." I asked to speak to a manager. The manager was not in the store. I was told I'd get a call back on the next business day. I waited a week, left a second message, waited another week, left a third message. No call back, not surprised.

I just came from roots salon about 10 minutes ago and got my haircut done by Maddie. May I say that this is probably one of the best haircuts I’ve ever gotten!! I’ve spent 100’s on haircuts and I am so appreciative of Maddie’s work. I think it is absolutely amazing and I will become a regular. My friend just got her hair done by Maddie the other day and I had to get my haircut done by her ASAP. That’s how amazing she is! The receptionist was so sweet as well and I love the energy and the people there. Thank you Maddie for your amazing work and I definitely recommend going here.

My hair is great I think Maddie did a beautiful job. I just wish I had a itemized receipt. I spent a lot of money (about $400) and I'm thinking it is just a little too expensive and I'm still not sure what cost what.....I thought maybe the balayage would be around $200 and it stated in the reservation the haircut came with the color. I did buy some products (a total of $45) and then tip $50 and for some reason my total was $395. Not sure what happened. I did ask for a receipt but it was just a lump sum.

She was very nice and did a good job on the cut. I explained to her I've done the big chop before so it wasn't something I could handle lol!

Update: I continued to go to the same stylist but prices are way too high for a haircut. I felt like everything was rushed and my business wasn't appreciated. Anyways I found a new stylist and haircuts are half the price.

Had my first visit here recently and so enjoyed my experience! I made an appointment online. As a busy professional, I really love it when salons have an online booking option. It was very easy and I was actually happy to be able to make an appointment relatively quickly (ie: they're not booked out for weeks) with Mera. Mera was so lovely, attentive, and did such a great job at matching the color I wanted and giving me the cut I was hoping for as well. The salon itself is crisp, clean, and comfortable. From the moment I entered, the receptionist, my stylist, and other stylists in the salon made me feel welcomed and comfortable. The products they use are high quality. I was so pleased at how soft and nourished my hair felt after my experience. There is both parking garage parking nearby as well as street parking out front. The spots directly out front have a 2 hour limit. If you go a little further up the block (to the east) there is some 3 hour parking, which may make more sense for a cut and color (my appointment lasted 2.5 hours). A really wonderful experience all the way around! Get to it!

I've been going here for about a year now and couldn't be happier. When I first saw Kanece at Roots I had a multilevel haircut I hated and split ends for days. She's worked with me for the last year to get my hair healthy and grow it out and I'm so grateful for her! Each of our visits we address the issues and finally my hair is getting length and headed towards my goals. She is always friendly and willing to find solutions. Did I mention she understands the curly hair game??? Total gem. Highly recommend.

I've been getting biweekly manicures for six years. This was hands down the worst manicure I've ever received. I arrived with almond nails but wanted to switch back to oval. I provided the stylist with a picture of my nails from a month or so ago (when they were oval) as a reference point on shape and size. Instead of shaping them to the appropriate length, she cut them down super short and spent almost no time filing them. There are four different shapes between the ten nails in varying lengths. None of them are even or symmetrical and they look nothing like the picture I provided. There is polish on my hands/skin and my thumb chipped within 90 mins of departing the salon. She did make an effort to fix the shape but just didn't seem comfortable using a nail file. I left and popped by an hour later to discuss. The woman at the front desk offered to have an alternate employee do a "redo". When I arrived the "stylist" told me she couldn't do much to fix the shape. She removed the polish on my pinky using only a drummell (she didn't soak, wrap or use any polish remover at any point). I told her she was hurting me snd her solution was to let me know about a nail place nearby that does good work which I guess was helpful. She then fixed two nails but refused to do the rest stating "it would cause unnecessary wear and tear to my nails". It does cause wear and tear when you refuse to soak the polish off. She appeared unconcerned and disinterested when I told her I'd have to pay a second salon for the same service (not to mention the three hours of time). I could deal with shoddy work but the disregard for both my time and money is disappointing. I will say the first employee was trying her best but she specializes in hair and didn't seem comfortable doing nails. I still tipped 20% because she was clearly making an effort (and she did a very nice job on my eyebrows so it just seemed wrong to leave a bad tip). The second employee (who recommended an alternate salon) was curt - almost to the point of being hostile and appeared completely disinterested in anything other than getting me out the door. If she had done nails at least one other time in her life, she'd have known you have to soak off polish before using a drummel. She either doesn't do nails (in which case shouldn't have been elected to fix my manicure) or has a complete disregard for the health and safety of others. Either way, this salon is exposing their clients to risk. I have included a photo of my nail after the second employee "fixed" the chip. There is a giant bubble/bump where the chip used to be.

I called to see if they had any availability that same day for a haircut and they took me immediately! I could really tell my stylist (Christina) cared about my results and took a lot of time in making sure I left happy and let me tell you I have never loved a haircut more. I have been seeing Randi @ Roots for 2 years now. I could not be happier with how my hair turns out each time I walk out that door! I am CONSTANTLY getting compliments on my hair - who doesn't love that?! I haven't had anyone else touch my hair in the past years, so I can't speak to the rest of the team. But Randi is an absolute hair goddess. Oh and she gives the best head massages!

I typically do my research when looking for a place to do anything involving my aesthetics, as aesthetics is part of my job. I saw the reviews were decent at Roots and was offered a same day appointment for a hybrid volume full set of lashes. Score! I've gotten my lashes done off and on for years and was pumped to feel pretty and put together again. Please see the attached photos and queue the tears. Is this full? This looks like all my lashes have fallen out and I need a fill. I had asked for a hybrid volume, and when I expressed my discontent, the lash technician said she would add longer lashes. I tried to explain I wanted them fuller, not longer. When I examined my lashes closer, I saw majority of them were clumped together so there was not much for her to work with to give me the volume I had asked for. Not to mention, the gal wanted to charge me $220 for this, then offered to cut it in half. $110 for whatever this is? You're joking! The manager, Marcel, was kind enough to waive the entire fee after I shared the lash technician spent the last half of the appointment trying to get my eyes open, as she had glued them shut. I kid you not. Glued. Them. Shut. As much as I am not the "manager" type, there's no way as a salon owner I would be proud of this work walking out of my business and representing the services my salon offers. I would have loved nothing more than to walk out of that salon feeling confident and pretty again. Instead, I walked out in tears with my lashes clumped together and my eyes burning from being glued shut. While I'm sure the other services the salon has to offer may be alright, getting lashes at Roots is a giant waste of time and money.

I emailed ahead of time to hear about the safety measures the salon is implementing in regard to COVID. I was told they are cleaning surfaces more often and customers and employees are required to wear masks. I was there for roughly three hours. During that period of time I saw nearly every employee mask-less,in close proximity to others, at some point. It made me uncomfortable, however I felt uncomfortable to say anything. Also, it is not my responsibility to say something. The manager was being negligible, as were employees, by not abiding by the protocols Roots Salon put into place. I would not have booked an appointment if I knew employees were not following the salon's health guidelines. This is the reason I took stars off. I really like my haircut and balayage highlights that I got done. The balayage looks natural, yet you can tell I got something done, which I like. I think I will go back to the same hairstylist, Izzy, in the future. However, I will do so once I feel comfortable to be mask-less.

The booking app is rarely accurate and difficult to use. Always call to confirm if you book a last minute appointment. The salon can usually get you a last minute appointment if you are willing to see multiple people for multiple services, The salon is clean and the chairs are comfortable. The water in the shampoo bowl changed quickly from hot to cold. I don't like the shampoo and conditioner brands that are used and the styling hair tools seem out of date. Also the ala cart pricing is outrageous. I booked a root touch up for my basic brown hair and a trim- strait across 1 inch off the bottom. I was charged EXTRA for the blow dry and flat iron because "the style was extra" total service charge was 169.00! Recommend to confirm price prior to the service as every stylist charges a different price.

I called on a whim around 6:30pm to see if anyone could take me in for a women's haircut and it turned out to be the best haircut I have ever gotten!! Mera did such an amazing job. I have never loved my hair more. She was so friendly and understanding and recommended really great products for me. Book with Mera you won't regret it!!

Absolutely awful service and stinky smelling lobby! My shellac manicure was scheduled for 6pm and I was told "she's running late." I was taken 45 mins late! Not only was my first service cut short, but she used the wrong coat, left messy edges, was on her phone and did not talk at all! My pedicure was okay but that service was cut short as well since it was 9:10 pm by the time I was checked out and in my car. I wasn't even offered a discount or apology for the major inconvenience and lack of attention to detail. I have been going to get my nails done for ten years. This is the first time I've ever returned home irritated and not relaxed from a salon. Never go to a Roots Salon especially if you're on State Street in Tosa unless you want to smell a feet odor as you walk in the lobby, be ignored, feel like an inconvenience and pay for unprofessional work!!!

Pretty unprofessional. I made an appointment here for a color and cut. I specifically picked a senior stylist. I show up for my appointment and the stylist was not available for some reason and they changed me to be with a less experienced stylist. They even had called to confirm 30 minutes prior. I understand that things happen but out of respect for clients it makes more sense to give the client a more experienced stylist. You list senior and master stylists for a reason (I assumed so clients can understand the stylists experience when trying a new salons). Further when washing my hair. The stylist didn't have the consideration or knowledge to use a towel. When I stood up my back was soaked. I mentioned it and she said She can dry it later. Proceeded to cut and dry my hair and left me with a soaked back. Then partially dried it at the end. I walked out cold and uncomfortable. And lastly. She left dye all over the side of my face. Really makes a client feel like they aren't important.

First time coming to Roots in Tosa and I can confidently say I have found "my hair girl". Got a balayage done by Jeanette (which I have had done by other stylists in the past) and I have never felt so beautiful! She hooked me up! 12/10 recommend setting up your next appointment with her, I know I will.

Our first experience at Roots Wauwatosa was good enough in June to make us want to return to help a village business because we are Tosa locals. Our second experience this weekend will make us not return. My daughter's stylist (Katherine) was rude upon greeting her. Definitely was not the expected attitude of someone providing a service. After her cut (which looked like very little was done), Katherine complained that she was a child's cut because she has too much hair and that she should be a women's cut. This was not said at our last appt where Katherine also did her hair. She is 12. Katherine did not thank us (still gave her 20% tip), did not ask to schedule more, did not say have a good day or anything. Her poor attitude will prevent us from returning.

I'm so happy with my experience here. I was ready to make a big chop but needed to find a stylist I could trust. I live near Roots so I stalked their Instagram to find a someone with some experience in what I was wanting. Noah did such a great job! She is so warm and friendly, she has a great eye and took her time cutting/styling me and explaining how to style myself at home. I was nervous about saying goodbye to my long hair but she was so confident and jumped right in which put me at ease. With a new customer & referral discount, I was able to buy hairspray AND give a 20% tip for about $50 altogether. I'm a happy happy customer! Really terrible mani/pedi experience. Went with my daughter and stepmom. Didn't learn until the ladies had started that they did hair for a living and were not nail techs which was obvious when they didn't know what they were doing. The order of the steps wasn't right, and each step just wasn't done the way it would be by someone who knew what to do. My step mom's was the worst by far. Her pedicure lasted twice as long as it should have because her person was so slow, yet steps were missed. Then she moved onto her nails and had to have shellac removed. Oh my goodness ... the woman had absolutely no idea what to do. It took her an hour to remove the shellac. My stepmom was so tired of sitting there she left without getting her nails painted. With my manicure, there isn't full coverage, even at the tips, and they are globby. She also didn't do anything to my nails other than file the tips (and paint of course) so when I remove the polish (which I'm going to to 36 hours later because I can't stand looking at it) I'm going to have to file and treat the cuticles ... all the work that was paid for and should have been done. The woman working on my daughter did an ok job. Not the best but not as bad. She did, however, keep leaving to do other things. For example, she wrapped my daughter's hands in hot towels then left for a solid 20 minutes. Those towels were cold when she came back. The frustrating part is that my stepmom even called to ask about the experience level of the people doing our nails and was assured they had experience. Not sure what Roots defines as experience ... I haven't received that many mani/pedis in my life (maybe a dozen?) but I've been to enough to know that these ladies are not experienced. Roots didn't charge my stepmom for her manicure but I can't believe we were charged full price for the rest given the amount of time we all had to wait for my stepmom's girl to not do her nails, and given the poor job and experience all around. Do better, Roots. Or stop billing yourself as a mani/pedi salon.

I had a glaze applied and every aspect of the experience was great. Rose recommended 2 colors, showed them to me and explained why she thought it would be good. She was very professional, did a great job from shampoo to blowout. I'm very pleased with the results!

I was very excited about going to a new salon for a new look. I went in for a consultation, the stylist took a sample of my hair for a loose perm. I went in mid Sept with my gray hair for a new look, the stylist suggested a minimal foil hightlight. After 2 + hours there and $200 with perm, highlight and product, the highlight negated the perm. I am very very disatisfied. They are professionals and should have known that. I went back one time and was told to make a consultation appointment but there is no perm to discuss. I called and left a message for the manager and no reply. Two hours + of time and $200 later and no perm and call - I will never go back there again and shame on you for not being professional.

Bad experience. I went for a cut and asked for my bangs and hair to be cut. She cut my bangs only, and then dried my hair. I kept waiting for her to cut the rest of my hair and it never happened. A very very expensive bang trim- $47!! When I reached out to a manager they had me come back. The stylist who cut my hair the second time seemed very rushed the entire time, and was not gentle when brushing or drying my hair. I never leave reviews or like to complain, but this was honestly the worst experience with a salon I have ever had.

I love Roots for getting my hair color, but I just came for a spa pedicure and was disappointed. The spa pedicure itself is supposed to be an hour and took 45 minutes but I figured that wasn't a big deal. But on taking a closer look at my nails, I do a better job myself - I just can't right now at 37 weeks pregnant! I actually had to return to have one redone that I tried to fix myself, but now I'm thinking I should have asked for the whole thing to be redone because the color is so uneven and my nails just look kind of sloppy

Poor nail experience. Booked a shellac spa manicure, the stylist was very nice and pleasant but unfortunately as others have mentioned my nails were only filed - no cuticle treatment. The color was not near the base of the nail. Once I got home I realized how uneven it was and that the color extended onto the skin. It looked terrible. I lost two of the the nails two days later. I called to inform the salon and I never do this, but I felt like after spending the money I should. And also I feel like it's good to give a place an opportunity to fix things. I was booked for an appointment to address the cuticles and the poor color. When brought back the woman was very kind to me however the shellac was peeled off my nails! No acetone just torn off. I didn't know what to say or do. I could feel the layers coming off. I had some cuticle pushed down. I could tell my message from my call was not relayed as they seemed surprised I wanted it all redone vs just repainting the two that came off. The edges are rough it's not well done and I know the stylist that was tasked with helping me was already very busy and rushed. Now here's the worst part. I was well prepared to tip the person doing this service. However I was also charged to remove the shellac!!!! I will never go back, I'm dissatisfied and disappointed. They should simply not be offering nail services if this is how they are handling things.

Randi at Roots in Tosa is so good! I have thick hair down to my belt line and for the last 10 years every stylist I've gone to has been overwhelmed and never completed the color I want. They would tell me they can do a balayage in a 4hr session, and then take 8hrs to only do half. I get it, my hair is a lot, but I always left unsatisfied. Randi was awesome. She got to work, did a beautiful job and did what I wanted in a normal session time. I went back a few weeks later for a full highlight and again, gave me exactly what I asked for. I haven't been this happy about the service or stylist I've had in years, Randi does an amazing job and everyone I've interacted with at Roots has been polite and helpful. I've been recommending Randi to everyone!

I was a little nervous about getting my hair done the first time in a long time in a salon and also with all that has happened with covid but, Kanece did an excellent job on my hair, took her time, was so nice and honestly was the best hair dresser I have had. Jeanette is the absolute BEST! I can be pretty particular about my hair when it comes to color especially, and seriously -- Jeanette is incredible. The last few times I've gone to her she's completely knocked it out of the park. The quality of the service is fantastic and everyone at the salon has been super friendly as well. First wax, the lady seemed inexperience (which I knew from the beginning since they did state that it was with a level 1). I just so happen to be on the last day of my period and wore a tampon during my session. She kept getting the wax stuck to the string and tucking on it, it was messy and sticky everywhere. So I told her to cut the string, session went smoother, once my wax was done, I had such a hard time pulling out my tampon because it was stuck with wax. Hahaha. Second and third session, the original aesthetician I waxed with had resign. I got a new lady who was considered to be a high level aesthetician. I could tell she was much better. My complain is her technique. After she applied wax and pull off the hair she doesn't pat the waxed area to reduce the pain/sting (everyone I've waxed with pressed/pat the area) nor does she pull the skin tuck before pulling the wax off. So it was very painful! After all the pain, my lady part wasn't even clean, there's a lot of hair that I still had to pluck.I wouldn't recommend this place to any of my friends and will not be returning if I had not purchased 3 sessions there.

Love coming here, great atmosphere, nice amenities, and the employees are always nice! If your new here I recommend choosing Katherine as your stylist. She always makes sure you love your cut. Does a great job on both men's and women's cuts. She's also very charismatic and great to talk to.

This was my first visit to Roots and don't think I'll go back. For starters I walked in using the back Door and walked through the salon to get to the reception area. No one greeted me nor acknowledged I was there until I had to get someone's attention. I was early but I've been in customer Service for over 35 years and felt this was unacceptable. I was also not impressed with my haircut especially the styling. My hair looked more sleek and put together and better styled before my haircut. Did a nice on my bangs. I was grateful for being able to use a coupon. Would not have been too happy paying full price for haircut and style.

Glad to have a young/hip feeling salon in the neighborhood! Love the industrial decor and covered parking in the rear. They do seem to run late in my experience and the stylists overall are good. I have never come away thrilled with the finished style, but that's just me I'm sure. The cut is always decent and an overall positive experience. Great location and specials also.

Superb service. I am really happy with the fast appointment scheduling and the lady who did my hair (i forgot her name) was sooooo nice. Usually after hair cut my roots hurts alot but she was so soft with her hands and was very nice throughout. Definitely going back.

I had a great experience and am super happy with my hair. My only complaint would be that since I cut my hair short, I wish she would have moved my side part around a little to make sure i wouldn't have longer sections of hair when my part moves the littles bit.

I had a hair appointment but, due to an emergency, I called Roots and asked if there was any chance I could come in a couple of days earlier and my stylist, Randi was able to accommodate my request. Randi did an amazing job on my hair as always. I had my roots touched up and a hair cut and my hair look great. I find it so interesting that Randi is able to remember each client and how they liked their hair done. From the moment you step into the Roots Salon, you are treated as a guest and the service is impeccable.
