Will likely not be back. Not all bad, but they need to sharpen their focus on their food and drinks.
Brunch was decent. The food was good, not amazing, but they lacked many of the usual Cuban food staples. The ambience and service were quite nice, so we wanted to give dinner a try.
Fast forward a few weeks, and we went to dinner there. The vibe was warm, and they had an entertaining and fun singer/guitarist performing. Service was perfect: as attentive and as pleasant as one could ask for.
Their enticing online menu, with a nice variety of standards, simply doesn't exist. Apparently, they're having "website domain isues," which is suspect to me, but the end result was that they offered only THREE options for dinner entrees: ropa vieja (only so-so, honestly), a "vegan picadillo" (Why???), and a "bowl" with various meat options. Bowl-style dishes are not traditional in Latino places (and I've been to dozens): the rice is served on the plate, next to the meat, and beans are in a separate bowl, to be eaten separately or spooned over the rice. That said, the ropa vieja was also served bowl style, so I didn't get what I was expecting there, either. They offer "vaca frita" meat as an option for the bowl, but won't offer it as its own dish, which makes zero sense.
Something is wrong here. Not having a normal and varied choice of entrees, like lechon asado, chicharrones de pollo, or masitas de puerco, was very odd and disappointing. That their website (with a basically fake menu featuring far more entree options) has apparently been hijacked (one can only wonder), is just very strange.
We had a reservation, but ended up being seated at the counter instead of at a regular table because they don't have enough tables in the dining room—yet, they have another good-sized room that they use as a dance/club space with a DJ after dinner. How about bringing in more tables and focusing on being a great restaurant instead of trying to be a hot, jammin' after-dinner spot?
Their staff is warm and welcoming. Their cocktails are very tasty and creative, but not strong or spirit forward (they tasted good, but almost like mocktails). Their coffee menu matches those of spots in Little Havana (Miami), and their coffee is excellent.
Perhaps they're just finding their footing, but we likely won't be back. Sadly, the search for a really nice sit-down Cuban restaurant continues...
