25 Essential Tacos in and Around Denver

"With a splashy mural, handsome tilework, and pops of bright pink and orange, this Thornton charmer boasts a festive vibe that’s only enhanced by its fairly elaborate tacos. Grilled mahi mahi sits atop a dollop of rice, sprinkled with diced mango and crema; lamb birria drips with a tangy roasted tomato–chile sauce; and thick-sliced, batter-fried avocado comes drizzled in chipotle aioli over refreshing jicama slaw. Some 20 different margaritas infused with everything from cucumber and mint to habanero and tamarind keep the party going." - Eater Staff, Ruth Tobias

Mixed Experience at Rosa’s Mexican Kitchen I recently visited Rosa’s Mexican Kitchen and had a bit of a mixed experience. First off, the guacamole was fantastic! It was fresh, flavorful, and truly a highlight of my meal. However, the fish tacos left much to be desired—they were bland and quite dry, which was disappointing given the restaurant's reputation. On the plus side, the quickness of getting our food was commendable. However, I have to agree with other reviewers that the service could use some improvement, as the staff didn’t check in to see if we needed anything else during our meal. Overall, while the guacamole was a standout, I was hoping for more from the tacos. I might consider returning to try other dishes, but I would recommend sticking to the appetizers for now.

Google
The food had good flavor pozole was a too spicy and the flan had no flavor . The al pastor tacos were amazing . Food come out too fast didn’t had a chance to finish the food when the rest of the food was in the table. The server seem to be in a rush to get us out because she brought the check 2 times before we had order dessert. Drinks were good

Google
The burrito al carbon was ok but steak were tough to chew. It's masked in the sauce so couldn't really taste flavors. The habanero sauce that accompany it is good and spicy. The green chili was so so as the pork too seemed tough. I couldn't finish nor was I offered a container to bring it home, not that I would had either way.

I’ve tried many “Mexican” restaurants throughout the years and this came as a pleasant surprise. Came in not expecting much but was relieved to find a well put together plate and served with quickness. If you’re like me and don’t like spending on disappointments then you’ll be relieved to find this isn’t one.

We visited for happy hour and had a mixed experience. The happy hour menu listed on the website was outdated, offering only margaritas, a specific beer, and unlimited chips and salsa. We ordered nachos with steak, chicharrones with salsa, and queso blanco dip. While everything was enjoyable, the chicharrones were disappointing. Additionally, there was only one waitress serving the entire restaurant, which affected the quality of service. At one point, she brought us the check without inquiring if we wanted anything else, making us feel rushed and unwelcome. Given these factors, I would hesitate to return to this establishment.

We stumbled upon this fantastic restaurant while doing some shopping in the area. Needless to say we will be back to try the rest of the menu. My girlfriend ordered chicken enchiladas in a creamy chipotle sauce. I ordered the Mole Madre served with a well seasoned chicken breast on a bed of perfectly cooked rice and beans. The mole was fantastic with excellent flavors. The crispy/soft plantains and the pickled red onions was a nice touch. Also the chips and salsas are super tasty. The plating looks professional and appetizing. You can tell the cooks take pride in their work. The decor inside the restaurant feels kind of coastal and vibrant. Nice place to sit and enjoy. My only criticism is my chicken was a little, and a mean a little overcooked. It wasn't enough to ruin the dish or make me not want to come back. I'm recommending this place from here on out for anyone who lives or is near the area. Great work everyone!

Google
First time visiting, and I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was somewhat empty for a Saturday afternoon, but we attended immediately. The art decor is phenomenal. Their menu has a twist to certain recipes. We ordered the enchiladas adobada and carne asada. I'm not sure if the enchiladas were made with flour tortillas, but it tasted like it. Their pickled onion topping was awesome. Highly recommend visiting

I don't like writing negative reviews but I'll make an exception. I went here with a friend for lunch. We were looking for a quick bite to get back on the road. The woman that greeted us was pleasant and seated us but we waited 10 minutes for our waiter to come by the first time. He was cold and rude. My friend asked a question about the margarita and he just starred at her and then asked if we were ready to order. Our food sat under the heat lamps for 20 minutes while our waiter stood at the bar on his phone. The food was good so I bet it would have been great if it didn't sit there for so long. I understand that everyone has a bad day here and there so hopefully we just caught him on a bad day.

Yelp
Rosa Mexican Kitchen in Thornton offers a vibrant dining experience that tantalizes the taste buds with authentic Mexican flavors. My wife and I recently visited this establishment, and we were thoroughly impressed by the quality of food and service. Upon entering, we were greeted warmly by the staff and seated promptly. The ambiance was inviting, with lively music playing in the background, setting the stage for an enjoyable meal. For our appetizers, we ordered the divorciadas and the mole enchiladas. The divorciadas, a dish featuring two different types of salsa served side by side, were a delightful start to our meal. The contrasting flavors of the red and green salsas complemented each other perfectly, providing a burst of freshness with every bite. My wife opted for the mole enchiladas, and she was not disappointed. The rich and complex mole sauce coated the tender chicken enchiladas, creating a dish that was both comforting and satisfying. The balance of sweet and savory flavors in the mole sauce was exceptional, leaving us craving more. For our main course, we indulged in a variety of dishes, including tacos, burritos, and fajitas. Each dish was expertly prepared, with fresh ingredients and bold flavors that left us wanting to try everything on the menu. The service at Rosa Mexican Kitchen was top-notch throughout our meal. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable, offering recommendations and ensuring that we had everything we needed to enjoy our dining experience. Overall, our experience at Rosa Mexican Kitchen was exceptional. From the flavorful dishes to the welcoming atmosphere, this restaurant exceeded our expectations in every way. Whether you're craving classic Mexican fare or looking to try something new, Rosa Mexican Kitchen is a must-visit destination in Thornton. We can't wait to return and explore more of their menu offerings.

Yelp
We have been to Rosa Mexican Kitchen several times now and the food has ALWAYS been fantastic. We have ordered all 3 soups, the chicken tortilla soup is so flavorful, and all 3 are delicious. The tacos are so tasty, always great and the sizes are perfect. I recommend the spicy guava margarita with a Tajín rim, so good! The service has been hit and miss here, but the food has always made up for it. The ambiance is cute, small and outdoor seating too! We love this place!
google avatar

Danielle M.

Yelp
Food is phenomenal every time! But, the service...it's hit or miss. We're either really happy with our server, or we have to sit and wait forever for basic things like water. The food is the only thing that keeps us coming back.

Yelp
The tacos were outstanding and the service was great. Highly, highly recommend this place. I'm coming back again to try other items. Simply wow!

Yelp
We stopped in for a weekday lunch. The restaurant was extremely busy and there seemed to only be one server on, so we waited to be seated for quite some time. Once seated however, the service was quick and friendly. We ordered Burria Tacis and the Barbacoa Enchiladas, both were pretty good. I will say that the fact that they charge for chips and salsa was a bit of a downer, since most Mexican restaurants in Colorado offer the first basket/bowl for free. This said, I'd come back and try more off the menu, but I won't pay for chips and salsa again LOL

Yelp
The place is a great option if you're at the outlets and get hungry. When we walked in, we were surprised how nice it was because it's such a small store front. We were Saturday big comfy booth, which I enjoy, but had to ask for chips and salsa they didn't just bring them. I ordered the shredded chicken burrito, it was very good chicken. Not dry at all. My mom got the enchiladas with green chili, the chili was mild but flavorful. We ended with the churros which were amazing, we were shocked when we found out they were filled with cream! Yum.

Yelp
Met up with a friend here for dinner. He recommended this place and told me that I would like it and that I should do a review on it. Well, he is correct. I didn't like it, but loved it! We ordered street tacos for dinner. I was still so full from lunch earlier and ordered two tacos. I had the pork belly taco and the cauliflower taco (curious). Wow, they were both dynamite and tasty for sure. Each were distinct and flavorful. The tacos sauces on each of them were yummy. The cauliflower taco had a nice little kick to it. I love spicy and could've used more hotness but great for those who don't eat much spice. They might even claim it's spicy. Lol. I really like this place and definitely looking forward to coming back and trying more tacos. Next time I wanna see if they make churros.

Yelp
Food was generally greasy, just not good, very limited menu. Lots of good Mexican food in Brighton, this is not one of them.

Yelp
A great neighborhood restaurant! The food was different than your standard local Mexican restaurant. I had the carnitas but they had a unique spin to them with the side items. Great service. Everyone was very friendly and happy to see us there. We loved the decor.

Yelp
WOW. Just WOW. Amazing spot. For starters, it's a locally owned business. The owner was there.. working. On a Saturday night. Respect. The ambience is uplifting and the spot is decorated super funky, in a fun way! I didn't take any pictures of the inside part but it's very colorful and bright. A total vibe! Also extremely clean. It is a small space but it was completely occupied, giving you a picture of the quality of business. The service was exceptional, Maria, our waitress, was awesome. We loved her. She was very attentive and our drinks + food came out super fast. She also explained the questions we had to the menu very well. They fill up your water continuously. This may sound weird but I really liked the taste of the water LOL it was fresh and didn't have that "tap water" taste. So another major plus on that part. I got a draft Modelo beer and I really liked it. It tasted just like the bottled ones. My boyfriend got the Oaxaca Collins (which I also tried) and he really liked it. We ordered the Queso Blanco appetizer and absolutely loved it. Totally suggest trying it out. The chips are homemade, you can taste the quality of the freshness. Will definitely come back to try out their other appetizers! Okay so for the real review, the food. I grew up in Cuba and Miami so my expectations for Hispanic food are severely high. This place met them all. The food is authentic and you can taste it. It reminds me of the food my mom used to make at home growing up. I was extremely impressed. We also got a side of sweet plantains and ate them all. I saw online that they have another menu for lunch time. I already wanted to come back for dinner time again but I know I'll be returning for lunch too and ordering for takeout as well. I strongly recommend checking this spot out. Everything was off the charts. I loved every second of it. Other restaurants should take notes from this place. Quality was top tier.

Yelp
I thought Rosa was just an average taco place, nothing special. I'm a queso fanatic so, of course I ordered the queso blanco. I found it to be disappointing and lacking flavor. I also did not care for the tortilla chips. They were not salted or seasoned and were very oily/greasy. However, I did very much enjoy the two tacos I ordered ($4 each). The Trompo is Al pastor pork, avocado and pineapple and the pork belly taco with mango aioli and pineapple were both delicious and flavorful. I loved the mixture of flavors on both tacos, the meat was also cooked very well. The pork belly had a crispy coating but, was soft inside. I was with my two kids and our waitress did not give us any kids menus so, I thought that was strange. When she came to take our order she just told me the kid options. But, I was not able to look at a kids menu for pricing. I would like to return and try the margaritas, they had lots of drink options. I would also try more tacos here. They were very good and well priced.

Eva M.

Yelp
Pretty ambiance, service was great. And food was amazing!! Try the nachos for appetizers, delicious. Support your local businesses and try this place out you won't regret it.

Yelp
We decided last minute to go to dinner while we were out. Rosa Mexican Kitchen did not disappoint! We sat at the bar and had margaritas (Toasted Coco Rita, Jamaica Rita, Traditional Rita). They were beautiful and made fresh! Entrees were Pez - Fortaleza (Mahi-mahi) and Molcajete Style Fajitas. Each one was plated beautifully and tasted wonderful! The staff was super friendly and attentive, and the ambiance was amazing and authentic. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Delicious, upscale Mexican food. Loved the margarita, loved everything we ordered. Queso was delicious, as were enchiladas. Priced right.

Yelp
Our first time here and we were blow away. We got the chips with queso and quac. They made the quac fresh without much spice for our 4 year old. She loved the chips and dips and her kids meal of quesadilla, rice, and beans. My husband can't remember better chips and queso. He said it was the best he ever had. The chips were crunchy but light and tasty. We got a variety of tacos and they were all excellent. Tons of favor and delicious. Can't believe we haven't come here until today. We will be regulars. Ricardo was our server and he was great!
google avatar

Alan R.

Yelp
My wife and I had a collection of four kinds of their street tacos, and all were delicious. Although they have full meals, we were eating a late and light lunch this visit. Prices ranged between $3 to $6 each. It's informal with good food. Service was fast and friendly. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. It was a bit noisy inside for our tastes (we favor quiet places), but all the outdoor tables were taken, so we stayed inside at a booth. Still - all in all it was great and we'll be back!
google avatar

Jeremy W.

Yelp
Jesus dude every single dish here is elevated. It is pricey but they could charge more. I think the only thing that's not Michelin quality is the ambience. And to be honest with the quality of food here I don't care. Because it's all photo quality and as good as it looks. Straight

Yelp
Looks great on outside. I noticed how small it is inside. That is fine however must the music be so stinking LOUD???? Everyone is yelling to talk to each other.there was nothing on the menu to my liking. The hubs has their regular onion and cheese enchiladas. So different from what I was used to! Stacked on top of rice and beans with pickled onions, cabbage etc. you can't really taste the enchiladas due to the stacked addings. Very different. He said they were on however he didn't care if we went back. I could not find a thing. I did t see quesadilla on the menu so asked. She said they could make one. Not good a whole ton of white cheese with no flavor. Nice people, beautiful setting, TOO LOUD MUSIC! We won't be back!

Richard M.

Yelp
Eden is one of the best servers I've ever been around. She is kind and patient, the food is absolutely delicious. My favorite meal is Molcajete and the shrimp tacos! Love this hidden gem.
google avatar

Laura G.

Yelp
Wow! This is a great little place! Highly recommended...the food and flavors were fantastic. The chicken tortilla soup was substantial and full of shredded chicken and other bits of onion, rice and tortilla strips and beautifully garnished. I had the guacamole & salsa with chips. The blue corn chips were served warm, thin & crispy. I will definitely be back! Service was also friendly and welcoming. A gem of a restaurant!

Yelp
Stopped in to try cute little place. Service was kind, attentive. Food was pretty good, margaritas we over priced , small and weak. Chips and salsa we just ok. I'll try it again.

Yelp
Amazing food and wonderful service. The cleaning solution that is very fragrant is a little overwhelming. But everything else about this restaurant is amazing!!!!

Yelp
I love this place! Service is always prompt. Their taco menu has good variety! I need to branch out and try other dishes, lol! And now they have 3,6, and 9 margarita flights! Whaaat? Yumm!

Andrea A.

Yelp
Started with chips/salsa appetizer, for dinner we ordered the Oaxaca Relleno, Tijuana taco and house margarita. The tacos were delicious, the main dish was ok, a bit underwhelming. Margaritas were margaritas. Our waiter, 4/10 in service, cold attitude, had to flag down, $100 with tip. Restaurant is clean and vibrant with small seating area.

Yelp
My wife and I recommend Rosa Mexican Kitchen if you want the finest Mexican dining experience. Our experiences include the establishments in Longmont and Thorton. The food is the finest in taste and presentation. We have tasted a variety of the items on their menu. My wife and I agree that every entre we have tasted is superior. The service is great. Adriana, at the Thorton location, works extremely hard and always has a smile on her face. She allowed us to feel as though our patronage was appreciated. We felt very welcomed. I cannot stress how much we enjoyed feeling like being their customer was appreciated by the employees of Rosa's. The service in Longmont is great as well. We feel welcomed at both locations. The decor was reflective of what I have experienced when visiting Mexico. I do like that it allows me to remember my experiences in Mexico. The decor is light and happy. We are very happy to recommend Rosa Mexican Kitchen. All our friends now know where the finest in Mexican dining can be found.

Yelp
I walked into the restaurant and was immediately greeted and seated. The staff is so friendly and I can tell that there is an energy in the air that is exciting and electric. While I was waiting for my food, the owner brought out a taco for me to try, as well as a special sauce. I was blown away by the restaurant. When I received my food, I was originally going to take it to go but after trying the taco, I realized this might be the best plate of food that I've ever eaten so I ate my to-go order in the restaurant and it was literally the best food I have ever eaten. Smothered burrito with chips and queso. Literally changed my life, and I have been talking about Rosa's nonstop since my first visit. On the second visit the owner remembered me and so did some of the staff. 10/10 best food, service, and ambiance. Go there and leave happy

Yelp
My man has been gone for a week, so I was on the search for something equally satisfying. So when I say this hit the spot, this hit the spottttttt. Everything in my body is tingling and will be back soon for more tantalizing drinks and cuisines.
google avatar

Savvy J.

Yelp
Fresh food and not your typical Mexican. We ordered Guacamole,Taco Salad and the Relleno/Tamale plate. The chips were blue and very crispy and the Guac came with a good salsa as well. The Relleno came with a side of that delicious white cheese queso. The only negatives were that the tamale was 98% masa ( I like a wee bit more meat) and the noise level is LOUD due to the acoustics. But cute design. I would go back.

Bao M.

Yelp
The food is okay the service is good and the patients is a while only 20 minutes to get your food but if your like addicted to Mexican food I recommend this place for you if you don't I suggest you go somewhere else

Yelp

Yelp
I came here with my girlfriend and had dinner. We both LOVED it and will for sure be back. María was super nice to us and made sure we had a great experience, and the chefs know how to throw down in a kitchen. The chips + Queso were fuego, as well as our meals. I had the pork carnitas and my god I forgot it even came with tortillas until the very end. MAKE SURE!!! You get a side of fried plantains too! I've been searching for the best in denver and these blew me away. I will for sure be back again!!!!

Yelp
I was craving some Mexican food and decided to give Rosa Mexican Kitchen a try. I am very happy with trying a new place as I loved the food. I got the Enchiladas Divorciadas which were awesome. I ordered this for pick-up and the food was still great, so I'm super excited to come back and dine-in to have the food when it's hot and ready. The place itself looks great, and they have a small outdoor patio as an option to eat here. So glad I found this gem which is near-by!

Alexa I.

Yelp
Super yummy, beautiful presentation and great service! Prices are reasonable as well.

Yelp
Really was craving Mexican and didn't want to do the I-25 traffic on a Friday thing. This showed up as the highest rated in the area and what a happy accident because this food was amazing. The poblano was delicious. The guacamole was table side and the serving ware is adorable. What a gem. Will be back. Everyone working was pleasant and the portions were a great size for our group. So fresh and the red salsa was glorious. Now I need that on tacos next time. Can't wait to return.

Yelp
The service is always good, the food used to be good in the beginning when they first opened. Now when i ordered the carne asada, the meat had a lot of nerves & the hard to chew parts of the steak. The place is really cute and modern with a few Mexican art pieces. Overall a nice place with nice people.

Kimberly M.

Yelp
Went here with some coworkers and it was SO good! The guacamole, queso, poblano we're all incredible. Will be coming back for sure. Everything we ordered was plated beautifully and so delicious!
google avatar

Joshua M.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the food here, I ordered the mole enchiladas and they were not to my taste but they grew on me. I could tell they used quality ingredients and the subtleties of the spices came out in great ways. Also had the flan and really enjoyed it, so many places have horrible out of the box stuff. Would def come back.
google avatar

Bill W.

Yelp
Don't be put off by the mall/chain exterior. Food is great - fresh table side guacamole, street style tacos are excellent (multiple pork options) and the carnitas are delicious. Servers were incredibly friendly - feels like a family run spot. Margs are solid too! Would absolutely go back again. Seriously good tacos. No joke.
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Absolutely DELICIOUS!! Everything is so unique. Their blue corn chips are freshly fried and hot when they bring them out! So much YUMM! The queso is out of this world and the chicken cream enchiladas are DELICIOUS! Totally love the colorful artwork too!
google avatar

Sherry G.

Yelp
I just went here with my best friend we were excited to try their margarita flight. It was really good I tried 6 of 9 of their margaritas which were spectacular. I also got 3 different tacos while my friend tried their quesabirria. We also has the avocado. Everything was really good and their service was good not great. I would definitely go here again tho.
google avatar

Tiffany O.

Yelp
I was hoping to have a better review of this place. We went on Cinco de mayo so it was a little busy but we were seated quickly. It did take a while for someone to come take our order. We put in orders for guac and chips and salsa, the guac was large and fresh, the salsa was not good. I had the Frida margarita to start, it was not good, did not taste the tequila and it was sweetened only with the berries they used so hardly any sweetness and so many seeds! My husband had a metzcal Marg I believe and he wasn't impressed either. I ordered a Marg flight and the last one was the best over all which I believe was a spicy margarita. Still were very mediocre unfortunately. I wanted a good margarita and this place just didn't do it. The food- we ordered several different tacos, they all had good enough flavor, however the tacos were so wet with juices from the meats that it completely soaked the tortilla and everything fell out and ripped it apart when picking them up. Scooping them up with a spoon was basically the only option which was really annoying and completely took away from us really wanting to come back. I felt it was over priced for what we got. If the tacos stayed intact and the margaritas were better I would go back. But really disappointing overall.
google avatar

Genesa L.

Yelp
Let's start with the prompt seating, super friendly waitresses. A delicious margarita (not your normal pre-mixed yuck. Although do add the lime slice as they're a bit on the sweet side.), chips and salsa which are purchased but well worth it & they're also gluten-free. I had the carne Asada taco and pescado al a.... The tortillas oh my goodness!!! I make my own and these taste homemade, they're made specifically for the tacos. Now let's talk allergies! I am gluten and dairy free (super sensitive to gluten and dairy both). The waitress was super knowledgeable and helpful. I will tell you this is very reminiscent of a little place we used to go in downtown Denver and I drive an hour plus to all places as I live on a ranch in eastern Colorado. They have options for everyone including our milk allergic and begin, competitive cheerleading daughter. Also super respectful of everyone's right to choose. Aka hope you know what I mean!
google avatar

Tim S.

Yelp
This was hands down the best Mexican food my wife and I have had in Colorado. We had the Poblano, chips and salsa, and Tres Leches. Simply incredible flavor profiles. Live about an hour away from it so can't return too much : but there is a Cabelas near by so maybe can use that as an excuse :-)
google avatar

George P.

Yelp
This place was a shame. The menu was so limited that there was literally only tacos and some other Mexican food. Me and my family stopped in one day and were utterly disappointed. The server was okay, the drinks were expensive, and the food was a ripoff. Utterly disappointed.

Eva H.

Yelp
I have gone to Rosa's a couple of times and probably would go more often with business associates from Denver but the music is too loud. The first time I went I met a business woman and we had to shout at each other. My second time I went I had people who were hearing impaired. I asked if we could have a quiet table and explained why. They didn't have one. I then asked if the music could be turned down and they said "No" The food and drinks are great but the music is so loud that I won't be back.
google avatar

Kelsey P.

Yelp
The food was great! Beautifully presented and flavorful. There were 4 of us and we all loved the food. I will definitely be visiting again!

Gen O.

Yelp
This is the third time we have been here but the first time with our daughter. She is a slightly picky eater and does not enjoy spicy food. The waitress refused to let her order from the children's menu since she was over 12 years old. Ridiculousness!!! It's the same food no matter what age they are. Be sensitive and treat the customer better. We will NEVER EVER return. You lost a customer for life!!!
google avatar

April T.

Yelp
I'm only rating this a 4-star because it didn't quench my authentic craving. The chips, salsa, queso and margarita were good but this is definitely an artisian mexican place. Beautiful ambiance and delicious food but it is just catered towards the not-so-adventurous mexican cuisinist. The ladies that helped me were incredibly polite.

Yelp
This place is a gem. I thought it was the other Rosa Kitchen in Littleton but was told there was no affiliation. The food was very good. I had the Tijuana taco, steak taco, and chicken tinga. I think 3 is just a perfect portion if you are ready to eat. The beans and rice were good. Margaritas were very good. A wide selection of tequila. This place reminds me of a restaurant in Mexico City. Great taste and great prices! I'll definitely be back!
