Where to Eat Before the Game in L.A. | Eater

"Roscoe’s is a Southern Californian soul food staple, and though Inglewood is a trek from the mini-empire’s spiritual home in Hollywood, it can still be counted on to serve up crispy fried chicken and golden waffles. Sitting within sight of the 405 and with Sunday hours that stretch to 10 p.m., it’s a great last stop on the way home." - Vox Creative

I been here once when I was visiting Los Angeles many years ago and craving for some good fried chicken. Upon arrival, there was a wait, but I did not mind since I am a very patient person. Then when I was seated I instantly scrolled through the menu to see what’s for me. Their menu consists of their famous chicken and waffles, different chicken combos, sandwiches, burgers, sweets, drinks, beer, etc. Everything is made to order which is a plus for me and I never mind the wait as long the food comes out great. Their staffs are welcoming, well trained, understanding, that is probably why they are well known and busy all the time. I usually do not like sweets when I am hungry but the chicken with waffle plus syrup was on another level that made it a outstanding visit. I highly recommend this place if you are visiting Los Angeles, want to try something new or if you are looking for a laid back spot. I definitely will be back to tryout the other delicious options they have to offer.

Google
Never again. I have never given a bad review. I believe everyone deserves a chance, but Roscoe's has been around long enough where they need to be held accountable for bad service and bad food, just bad. The chicken was not fried completely through; it was still raw. The cornbread was hard as a brick. The greens looked like they were two weeks old. The waffle was dry and nasty with no taste. I spent $47.95 for one person to eat and to be very disappointed. I pray I don't get sick. I came down to LA to fly out to go to Hawaii for my birthday, and this is crazy. I'll call, and they don't pick up the phones.

Google
First time. Had to try while I was in town. Wasn't packed. Waited a few short minutes to be seated. Had music playing in the background. Service was fine. Plenty menu options. I had the waffle and chicken breast. Didn't take too long to come out. Waffle was good, could taste the cinnamon which was good. Chicken was good, fried a bit hard for my liking though. Overall it was good and glad I got to eat at this restaurant.

Google
This was recommended to me, I didn't expect much at first, but it was delicious. Those are some damn good waffles!! Nice and fluffy, not very crunchy, and they absorbed the syrup well. 10/10. The chicken was lightly breaded and juicy. Usually, you can taste the oil on fried foods, but this chicken didn't have an old, overused oil taste. I loved everything about my meal, I'll have to return.

Google
I love Roscoe's, a special treat for so many years. But...the prices are getting out of hand. $24 for a scoe's special, 2 waffles, a breast and a wing, $8.99 for a side of mac and $7 for a Lisa's delight. $80 for two people to have lunch is ridiculous. This isn't a special BBQ, fine dining or even the best option for lunch. I hate to write a post like this but I was shocked at how crazy expensive its gotten. The chicken was moist, gravy tasty, waffles were perfect as always but damn, not sure how to afford a return visit.

Google
One of my favorite places to visit. Chicken was slightly overcooked this time but 1 out of 155 isn't bad odds. Love this place.

Klohee’s Kitchen

Google
It’s an older location so don’t expect the greatest and latest but enjoy the vibe. The staff is friendly and pleasant. They now have mimosas and it was ok. The waffles were good and hot as well as the chicken. Open parking and family friendly

Google
Good food that came out quickly once we ordered. They handled large groups well. The server opened and dropped off three fresh bottles of hot sauce for our group without being asked to.

Yelp
We've been to a couple of Roscoe's over the years and at the very least the consistency is there. Chicken is good, but the best ever... maybe depending on your preference. The waffle is a must since it's their best dish. The prices have def increased, but it seems like the portions have gotten smaller. Overall, 3.5 stars for me since there are other options out there that tastes better and give more value.

Yelp
We landed at LAX and decided to come here because it was relatively close. We were seated right away but had to wait for our waitress. That wasn't a big issue because we were trying to figure out what to order. I was surprised at the number of people already there because it was morning time. There's a large selection of choices on the menu! Almost overwhelming! When our waitress came to the table she was amazing! The chicken was cooked to perfection. The red beans and rice were good. The candied yams were on point. The collard greens were just ok. The cornbread was great, it had a little sweetness and was moist not dry. Also the restaurant was clean and had a standard seating arrangement. I see why this is a must try place! Overall it was a good experience and I would definitely recommend it.

Yelp
I spent Mother's Day weekend in LA, and as a Bay Area native, there's nothing I wanted more for my brunch than to eat at Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles. This was my first time at this location, and fortunately, it wasn't crowded. We found parking right away and were seated quickly. The restaurant was presentable, clean, and not as crowded as other locations. Although we were seated promptly, we did wait about 30 minutes for our server to take our order. However, our food arrived within 30 minutes after that. I ordered the Scoe with a side of greens and mac and cheese, and everything was absolutely delicious! I have no complaints about the food at all. I'm really glad I chose this particular location and will definitely return when I'm in the area!
google avatar

MaKayla G.

Yelp
The place is kind of small, but it's pretty easy to be seated fairly quickly. The waffles were good and the chicken was flavorful! I enjoyed music playing in the background it really brought the vibes.
google avatar

Danielle A.

Yelp
Service is prompt and food was delicious! The music in here was really loud though and it was hard to talk when we were making our way through the restaurant. We had so much food and left filled. Ordered the country Boy Jeanie's omelette, and the breakfast sandwich. The chicken and waffles and the omelette were delicious but you can definitely skip the sandwich. The omelette was loaded with chicken and cheese and we also had sunrises/sunsets which were delicious! Our waitress was friendly and prompt.

Yelp
Great and clean location. Came during the week and got a table right away. Our server was busy so she got our order and didn't come back till she dropped the check off. We found ourselves asking management and other servers for things we needed. It also seems they have changed their recipe because the chicken is missing something. It was still good but not how I remember Roscoe's
google avatar

Yelp
If you're visiting LA, taking a trip to Roscoe's is a MUST! This restaurant is pretty well known for LA natives and even those who are not from here. This specific location is a short 10 minute drive from the LAX Airport so it's perfect if you're hungry after a long (or even short) flight! The food is authentic, holds a lot of flavor, & the waffles are quite literally some of the best waffles I've ever had! The food came out in a timely manner AND still tasted fresh! There are plenty of options if you happen to not be a chicken or waffle lover. You honestly can't go wrong with anything on the menu but I definitely recommend at least trying the waffles and chicken because that is what they're famous for! I believe our servers were attentive & and we were well cared for! The only complaint I have is the price of the food! Could definitely see why it's that way because of inflation but still wish it was slightly cheaper!
google avatar

Ashley N.

Yelp
Ok so preface is I stopped in while driving back home to Vegas. Upon walking we were seated right away. It definitely gives like neighborhood/family dinning vibe. The food smelled really good walking in, I was super hungry.our waiter came right away asking what we wanted and even suggesting better combo options that combined the "separates we ordered. I got the wings and pancakes , some eggs for my son. The pancakes are to die for so soft and buttery. The chicken best fried wings. I'm Caribbean I know good wings when I taste them. Food took a while to cone maybe about 25 minutes. But if your coming with a crowd like I did , it will feel like 10 minutes.
google avatar

Peter H.

Yelp
Fried chicken is lightly breaded and fried to crispy juicy deliciousness. I like to put some chicken in the waffles to make a taco and then dunk it in butter and drench it with syrup. It's a satisfying feeling to shove it in your mouth and get all those flavors. I really love this indulgence and I love Roscoe's for being nice to our dog too.

Yelp
Take me back to the 90's when Roscoes was really thriving ! I stopped in before a show at the Kia Forum & was flagged done by Monique for my table. No greeting, didn't ask me how many was in my party or anything . Terrible customer service. It Took over 30 mins just to get water & you can imagine how long the food took. Once our wings came, they were still pink on the inside. I know Roscoes is usually busy but 30+ mins for water is insane. This location needs some readjusting .
google avatar

Russell J.

Yelp
Visited here on my first stop from the airport on a Saturday night and was seated right away. Opted for a seat towards the back of the restaurant by the window and there was a puddle of water nearby that just had a wet floor sign over it. Now this was odd because it wasn't a huge puddle but more of a spill. As I say and waited for the server I saw 3 employees walk over this puddle and move the sign but nobody acted like it was a problem. Ordered The Scoe with a side of Mac n cheese. Food came out very quickly to my surprise and after that someone finally came to mop up water but then the guy puts down another wet floor sign. It really made no sense how many times that puddle was walked around and the place was not busy. Anyways back to the food. My waffles were slightly undercooked and kind of doughy, my chicken on the other hand was a bit over cooked and overly crispy. The Mac n cheese was the only thing that was just right. I don't think I'd return to this location again.

Yelp
Roscoe's is always my first stop when I land and this trip it was so good we went on our way out of town as well!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here to eat morning of 5/22 and we had such a good experience. Not only was the food amazing, but our waitress was very friendly and made us feel taken care of. We tried the Louisiana style hot sauce with our chicken and we were hooked. We went looking to buy at it the front cashier but they didn't have any in display at the moment and our server went to go grab one for us from the back which I thought was super sweet thank you guys can't wait to come back again

Yelp
We were in town for a concert at SoFi . Saw a Roscoe's ! Always a must when in SoCa! Moist and crunchy Chicken - some of the best I've had in California! Everything was fresh and Hot ! Our server Jaime took great care of us ! What a delicious meat :)

Yelp
As good as I remember it! I remember LOVING Roscoe's when I was a lot younger. I wanted to see if it would stand up to the hype in my mind. AND IT DID! My party of 7 arrived at Roscoe's on a Friday night around 6:30 and the restaurant was very open. We were seated right away as there were so many open seats. Our server was SUPER nice. Kind and quick too! I ended up ordering #13 (1 succulent breast, 1 delicious waffle). The food arrived SO FAST. Something that caught my eye was that the portion size definitely seemed small. As a smaller 5 '1 girl, I ate #13 all by myself, no problem, and still had space for a lil more food. The chicken itself was delicious! Crispy, seasoned well, and moist. REALLY GOOD CHICKEN! The waffle is tasty as well. It is definitely more on the soggy side for a waffle so it may not be some people's favorite type of waffle. But the flavor is good and it's got a little bit of fluff to it. The real banger of this meal is a bite of chicken (WITH SKIN), some waffle, butter, syrup, AND hot sauce! THIS BITE ALONE is quite a magical experience. My friend ordered something else that came with 2 sides and the side servings were massive. It literally came with a mountain of fries! Fries were a-okay. Average fries. I'm glad I came back. It was definitely delicious! Hope to come back again!

Yelp
Food! Damn Finger Lick'n Tasty! Service from Jose, Attentive, Patient, Kind and Genuine. Thank you! Just In and Out! Happy!

Yelp
Went to meet friends for lunch and birthday. Place wasn't busy got seated right away. Service was excellent and fast. Food as always is excellent. Chicken, nice and moist, waffles, tasty with butter and warm syrup. Fresh hot tea. Place is open and inviting. Bright wood furniture and inside. Plenty of parking.
google avatar

Serene A.

Yelp
Decided I finally needed to try Roscoe's and it didn't disappoint me, I guess the only thing disappointing was the price. Chicken is juicy and well seasoned. They servers did come around and asked us how we were plenty of times. Lots of people coming in and out they get busy and this location sure does look it. But there is a lot of seating.
google avatar

Renai F.

Yelp
These are the ABSOLUTE WORST chicken livers ever! Dry and not seasoned!! I'm sorry Dinah's Chicken is closed!

Hannah C.

Yelp
The chicken and the candied yams were delicious. There was a little bit of a wait but not terrible and our waitress incredibly attentive and sweet. Would definitely come back.
google avatar

Michelle P.

Yelp
Food is consistent, can always count on the chicken to be seasoned well, the Waffles are soft and cooked through and their syrup is always warm. Depending on the time of day, the wait can be long, but people rotate out fairly quick. The staff are friendly, they're not overly attentive as they running trying to get to all their tables.
google avatar

Monica S.

Yelp
The food is horrible! I ordered a breast and waffle and asked to fry it fresh and cook the waffle fresh. This location is near the airport and they fry up a bunch of chicken and waffles and sit them under a hit lamp for quick service. I didn't want old cold chicken from the heat lamp. However I got old cold chicken that they redipped in the oil to make it look hot. The problem was it was now dry and overcooked. The server them came back with more old dry chicken. By the third time I said no thank you and offered to pay for my drink. The table next to us overheard everything and they too walk out. DONT DO THIS ROSCOES!! Try the Pico location.
google avatar

Nathan S.

Yelp
Food was great, service was also great, The fried chicken was the star of the show, when in Cali a must visit
google avatar

Sarah W.

Yelp
OMG! They have the BEST WAFFLES I've ever had in my life! The chicken was hot, crispy and very flavorful. The waitress was very attentive and friendly. The atmosphere felt as if you were at home eating at grandmas house, very warming and inviting.
google avatar

Tamara J.

Yelp
Overall, our experience here was good. The servers were friendly, our order was brought out quickly and the restaurant was clean. The prices are high though. I really only wanted one waffle and three wings, but it came with two waffles - probably so they can charge more. Loved the wings and waffle, they were very tasty. My cousin ordered three wings and smothered potatoes - which were not very good because they were pasty. We each had orange juice and the total for those two meals was over $60!!
google avatar

Camille C.

Yelp
What's not to like about delicious golden fried chicken and mouth watering buttery waffles! Roscoe's never disappoints! Brought some family friends visiting from France to the iconic Roscoe's Chicken n waffles and while I missed taking photos of everything consumed, you get the gist. Server was friendly (and patient--thank you! :)) while our French friends decided what to order. Restaurant was lively, busy and bustling per usual on a Friday afternoon and the kids even got giddy showing they really enjoyed their meal! Lol Bon Appetit!
google avatar

Anita T.

Yelp
I enjoyed the meal at Roscoe's House of Chicken & Waffles. I particularly enjoyed the side dishes and the Sunset drink! We didn't have a reservation and even still, the service was still pretty quick. It was cool to visit the infamous tourist attraction.
google avatar

Peter P.

Yelp
As classic LA spot, this place is what you'd expect. Simple good food in a welcoming environment. It feels a bit chaotic when you walk in but the service here was good, fast and attentive. They have kind of a basic diner type menu but you should stick to what they are good at, the chicken and waffles. On my visit got 3 pieces of chicken and a waffle. Waffle came out solid, crispy with a side of butter and syrup. The chicken was nice a crispy and juicy, well seasoned. Was very happy with my meal. Not a mind blowning meal but the perfect comfort food classic. Also was surprised there was parking in their lot which was nice, but i did go during the morning.
google avatar

Jeff W.

Yelp
Stopped by Roscoe's prior to a football game at SoFi. Originally from SoCal and wanted to show my kids the original LA legend. It lived up to its reputation. Love the original vibe of the restaurant's design. Service was prompt and friendly, and the chicken and waffles was simply amazing. I was impressed, my kids were impressed. A great experience all the way around
google avatar

Jonathan B.

Yelp
A national treasure. Is the attitude of the place. The staff mostly cant be bothered by non regulars. Pretty regular food. If it didn't have the iconic name and history idk how they would stand out against frozen food at home. The waffle was the highlight. Service was slow but then hasty not in the good way. Over hyped. If you did a blind taste test I don't think they would be above anything else.

Armando R.

Yelp
Don't come here, service is slow and people don't seem to wanna earn a tip! Waitress saw me get sat, and wait 20 mins before I had to go ask her for service. What a let down.
google avatar

Salvador O.

Yelp
Overall this place was pretty good. The chicken was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. The waffles had a sweetness and crunch that was a good mix with the chicken. Oh I would like to highlight the honey mustard they serve with the tenders!!! It was bold and delicious and gave the tenders that extra flavor. If you are ever in Inglewood or LA, CA area this place is a the perfect spot to try out!

Ally B.

Yelp
The place use to be good...now just average. Got the Scoe's special. The waffles are thin, chicken okay. Not worth $25...wait with tax and the automatic tip it came to 31.08...so not worth it. *Note I had removed one waffles to heat up and crisp on the stove and put the chicken in the airfryer to make crispy.
google avatar

Lawrence T.

Yelp
Great food. Service was a bit slow but okay. A bit loud inside because of lack of acoustics. Chicken was hot and crispy. Waffle was just really good, I even prefer this waffle than Belgium waffle.
google avatar

Ashleigh B.

Yelp
2/2 My family went here on Friday during our trip to LA. Roscoe's is always our breakfast/brunch spot. This time around there was no wait and as always we enjoyed the food. My go to is the Country Boy (former Obama Special) and my husband stuck to his a thigh & waffle. Our waitress was attentive and our food was ready quickly. Of course we'll be back during our next trip.
google avatar

Mandisa A.

Yelp
Horrible! Horrible! Horrible! Wayyyyyyy too high a price for trashy food!!! The service is pathetic! I was told after ordering my food it would only take ten minutes to receive it. I bought the Oscar E meal: 3 wings, 1 egg, 1 biscuit, and grits. I paid $5 extra for a thigh! Yes 1 thigh was $5!!! As you can see I never received the thigh!!! Security guard had a smart mouth when I demanded a refund after waiting over 40mins for my food and getting to work only to realize I never received the extra thigh I paid for! No sense of urgency! People quickly stormed out because of the bad service, deplorable food, and terrible staff. RIP Roscoe's when u changed the staff and criteria for hiring, u lost ALL credibility.
google avatar

Justis T.

Yelp
Decent soul food served in an unassuming manner. The prices seemed a tad high, but it is Los Angeles, and the portions were of good size. The service wasn't anything special to write home about--I.e., we waited at the door for a while to be seated, and it took the staff a fair amount of time to come by the table to take our order. That being said, the food came out very fast once the order was placed, and it was hot. Overall, a good place to scratch that soul food itch. There is a 3% surcharge placed on all checks paid using credit.
google avatar

Arlene G.

Yelp
Stopped in after spending the day in LA. We wanted to make sure we hit local foods and let's just be honest. You cannot go wrong with some good chicken and waffles. Food was hot and service was great. This location was not that packed given it was the weekend.
google avatar

Candace C.

Yelp
My first visit to this location, I dined at a different location in the summer and had a different (food) experience. Hubby ordered smothered chicken and waffles. The chicken wasn't smothered...as in left in the gravy so the two could marry; but rather "gravy over chicken." There was so much gravy that I used some for my chicken and hubby still had a small bowls of worth of gravy to take him. My friend wings were good, but teeny weeny in size. The candied yams were too firm. Taste was on point but they needed to cook down a bit further. Cornbread was dry so I only had a couple bites. The greens were pretty good. Staff was really nice as well. Overall I'd visit the other location I patronized in August, over this location.
google avatar

Jen S.

Yelp
We wanted to check this place on our vacation and it was a great spot, service was pretty slow but the food was top notch.
google avatar

Yelp
When visiting LA, Roscoe's is always a must have! My friends and I came here one morning before heading to Rolling Loud. The lady was a little pushy about us ordering, but we weren't ready yet, by the time we were actually ready to order, she took like 25 minutes to come back, that's the only reason for a 4 star. The food was great as usual!
google avatar

Paulla L.

Yelp
The Food was mediocre, customer service was lousy. The waitress took forever to take the order. Won't be back.
google avatar

Jackie Q.

Yelp
Everything is so pricey for what it is! We ordered the economy special along with sides of grits, potato salad, and cornbread. I understand it's LA but these are soul-crushing prices for true LA portions. I've never seen a chicken leg so small when the economy special came out. If you've never had grits, I'd say it sort of tastes like cornmeal. The chicken was, as I already mentioned, strangely small, and the crust on it was not my personal favorite. The best thing was the potato salad, it had pickles and bell peppers which is not what I expected or ever had before. I'd have it again, just not for the price on the menu here. This would've been a four star review if the service was just adequate. We waited a long time before someone came by to take our order, and the guy who did come by spoke in a way that was difficult to comprehend. We got the comeback sauce at his recommendation but that didn't come to the table with the chicken and nobody came by to check on us until we just decided to eat the chicken without the sauce. Seems like a lot of the complaints are centered around chicken size and service, so I'll add mine to the mix.

Yelp
With it being my first time in LA, we couldn't pass up an opportunity to go to the famous Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles. I had high hopes for the restaurant. Walking inside, we weren't acknowledged until we spoke to the hostess which was 5 minutes we arrived. We were seated near the kitchen (which I asked not to be). The restaurant was very clean for how busy it was. A few areas to take photos and music was nice. Our waiter came out immediately, took our orders and we never saw him again. We had to ask the runners who delivered our food to the table for refills and napkins. My friends had chicken and waffles, I had the waffle with cheese grits. The chicken was over fried and dry. The grits weren't cooked enough (grainy) and cold, and the waffle was ok. I'd compare it to a Waffle House waffle. Definitely not what I expected. I had the experience of coming, but I'm totally ok with never visiting again just from the service itself.

Yelp
I had to stop at the classic Inglewood Roscoes chicken waffles for the first time in LA. The atmosphere was of your basic café or diner. It was clean enough. The wait staff was sweet and provided everything we needed for the day. There were a lot of exciting items on the menu. I wonder how much people order beyond the basic chicken and waffles. I was there with friends, so we all ordered the classic chicken waffles with side eggs. The meal was solid, and the double-stacked waffle was cooked well, not too crispy or soft. The chicken was good, not exceptional, but not bad. I did like their special Roscoe's hot sauce. I think it's important to remember that this is the blueprint upon where innovations of chicken and waffles came from, and with that being said, if I were to think of what chicken and waffles should taste like, this is it. Roscoes' chicken and waffles did not blow me away, but I was satisfied. Solid 3 1/2 out of 5

Yelp
I wasn't going to write a review because to me... it's Roscoe's... but that's because I'm from southern California.. if you know, you know. BUT here I am because there is one thing that stuck out on this visit and that was a customer service. We came in on a Tuesday afternoon, it was very slow, not many people, but service was quick, attentive, and the food was great. Feels like we got in and out of there very quick, but again food was amazing. My partner and I shared the scoe's #1- we got the 2 waffles, 1 thigh, and 1 breast. The waffles, of course, were so flavorful and light, and the chicken had great flavor while also being so juicy and crispy. It was a simple trip this time, but everything went perfect!

Yelp
I had to get my Chicken and Waffles in before leaving LA and couldn't leave without visiting Roscoe's. I always go out of the way to stop by, this location was my first visit and most likely last one. Service was prompt and quick. I got the 1/4 chicken with the gravy on the side. I totally forgot to ask for dark meat, so I got to try the white meat this time. Unfortunately, the chicken was over fried and hard to eat. The wings were ok, but the chicken breast felt like eating rubber, I abandoned it after trying few times. The interior layout is same as other locations, although this place look bigger than the other ones that I've visited.

Yelp
What's not to love. Crispy chicken and waffles done right. A classic and a must go to when you're near by. Parking is tight, but worth it.

Yelp
We walked out. Very dirty and loud. Inattentive staff. Didn't get a chance to taste food. Seemed unorganized and unaware of customers.
