In Nova Scotia, the Waves Are Fast and the Food Is Slow | Bon Appétit

"A café and bakery serving maritime classics like fish cakes and chowder alongside a reliable Sunday brunch and a lineup of classic baked treats—lemon and date squares and millionaire’s shortbread among them—making it a solid stop en route to the Eastern Shore beaches." - ByMelissa Buote

Our first time visiting NS and decided to stop at this place for a quick brunch and it did not disappoint. Very welcoming and the food was amazing. We had the wrap and fish cakes - fish cakes were out of this world and everythjng packed so much flavour! Would highly encourage a stop here if you have the chance to.

Cute little place. Food 10/10! Fish cakes were amazing. Ate inside the restaurant atmosphere was on point. Cozy, rustic, warm, and welcoming. Nice and clean with homemade jams on the wall looked so good with fresh pastries. Definitely recommend taking a visit ! Staff very chill and kind.

This place is a gem! Stopped here on our last morning in town for Saturday breakfast. The pancakes on their weekend brunch menu were amazing and the raspberry muffin was one of the best I’ve had—not too sweet and delicious with fresh raspberries. Great coffee as well. Thank you!

A spontaneous stop on a sunny day. Desserts were melt in the mouth delicious ( lemon shortbread and caramel shortbread with chocolate) There's a little deck out back with a lovely breeze. Going to go back for lunch sometime!

We had an impromptu stop at Rose & Rooster after spending a night locally for a birthday celebration. We were pleasantly surprised to find such a great place to stop and have breakfast. The staff were very friendly, the ambience welcoming and of course.. the food was excellent. My wife devoured the pain perdu, which was just incredible, while I helped myself to some fantastic fish cakes and an absolutely delicious home made bowl of baked beans. Can't wait to return - and if you're thinking of going? You will very much enjoy your visit.

Yelp
My family liked this place a lot better than I did. They ordered: Falafel bowl, seafood chowder, quesadilla, and a grilled chicken bowl. The food is original and well conceived - it's a very healthy menu. But this California boy has a preconceived notion of a taco. A taco has hot meat/filling with a heated tortilla. The Pulled Pork Taco should really be called "lukewarm wrap." Room temperature meat and tortilla? No thanks. Beer was also not very cold, but that may suit you.

Yelp
Cute little spot with all day breakfast. They sell nice stained glass and local handmade beauty products. Its cafeteria style ordering and pretty rustic. The food was good.

Yelp
2nd visit: an overcast Sunday in June 2019. Arrived about 9:30? There were two tables taken so it was pretty quiet. I tried the CHORIZO BURRITO (scrambled eggs, Aroma Latino chorizo sausage, spiced potatoes, fresh avocado, and PEI cheddar. With house-made rice + beans & pico de gallo. $13). It was delicious as well. Took about 15 minutes to arrive, but that was fine, since I drove over half an hour to get here anyway and intentionally brought a book, to make it a relaxing morning outing. Friendly service still. I WILL be back.

Yelp
Great cozy little place. I had the breakfast burrito and my partner had the eggs benny. Both were delicious. Good coffee options and David's tea. Their baked goods are served at a coffee shop called Weird Habour in downtown Halifax, which is where we first heard about this place. They also have free WiFi. If you're hungry & in the area, definitely check it out.

Yelp
Excellent food, service and the coffee has to be the best I've had in a long time. Really enjoyed the breakfast burrito. I highly recommend you give a try when you are out for a drive on the 207 hwy.

Yelp
Excellent Americano and lattes, delicious food! We've been to rose and rooster almost everyday during our week visit in Seaforth. Leaving tomorrow and we're definitely going to miss this place!

Yelp
We just came back from R and R Bakery...wanted to let everyone know that they have perfected the cappuccinos. We are very particular about our coffee and not the easiest to please so that says a lot. Coffee was rich in flavour but not bitter - a winner. I had a good mixed berry crumble muffin - yummy though I should have asked to have it warmed up a bit. Jeff, who co-owns this with his partner Sara, was a delight to talk with ....learned a lot about their quest for a good roaster and plans to do more seasonal BYOB dinners. Can't wait for the planned Spring Dinner (hopefully, local lamb). Way ta go! Leslie and Jim
