Rose and Rye review: Dessert pop-up is Decadent with a capital D - Review - Granada Hills - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"It’s official. We’ve entered a new stage of quarantine. Gone are the days of at-home bread baking and absurdly large novelty puzzles - much like Taylor Swift doing songs with Bon Iver, we’ve been thrust into a new era: Distract us. For the love of God, distract us. In this new era, we need food to be exciting. We want it bigger, better, prettier - and preferably served with a side of radical justice. Rightfully so; food is political, and it has real power, so yes, it’s also nice for it to be made by ethical people - and for it to be so rich and so indulgent that it feels like we’re eating… well, the rich. It’s a pretty tall order, but somehow, Rose + Rye is able to fill it. Created by Armenian baker Kristine Jingozian, this baked goods pop-up has only been around since the end of May, but it’s already managed to hold cake auctions in honor of Breonna Taylor and Elijah McClain, participate in the Pies For Justice bake sale, and educate their followers on issues like The Breathe Act, Black Lives Matter, and the importance of democratizing of food. Oh, and yes, the desserts are really f*cking good. You’re obviously going to want the banana Nutella pie - admittedly, it’s a bit of an undertaking (it’s only sold whole and you’ll have to drive to Granada Hills to get it), but if you’ve got the time and the willpower, this decadent behemoth should be a no-brainer. If you’re not in the mood to eat an entire pie, there are plenty of other things that deserve your attention as well. Namely, their sweet, vegan Persian halvas and flaky, bite-sized nazooks. Each comes in a beautiful box wrapped with twine and attached to a handwritten note. So whether you’ve got a special occasion coming up, or just want to distract yourself in the most delicious way possible, head to Rose + Rye’s Instagram, place an order, and then… we don’t know. Go for a walk? Delete the Twitter app from your phone? Call us, we’re worried about you. Food Rundown Banana Nutella Pie Duh. Baked into a golden, flaky crust and filled with (what seems like) 80 pounds of chocolate pudding, this pie is Decadent with a capital D. It’s essentially a banana cream pie, but with a dash of hedonism - it’s dense and delicious, with thick layers of Nutella cream and gold flakes on top. If you have anything worth celebrating, order this pie. Vegan Persian Halvas Dense little squares made with sugar, saffron, and cardamom, this dessert is reminiscent of both shortbread and caramel fudge, and that’s all good. It comes in either 15-piece or 40-piece boxes… guess which one we’re going to recommend? Brandied Date + Walnut Nazooks This traditional Armenian pastry/dessert/treat also comes in vanilla, but we like the way the dates and walnuts add a little extra crunch to the crisp, flaky pastry. Perfect with coffee at breakfast, a bite after lunch, or as a stress snack while you destroy your whole room, searching for a lost W-2." - Kat Hong

Rose Bakery Cafe is a must visit! The staff are very pleasant, accommodating, and friendly. The food is delicious - freshly prepared, seasoned, and well priced for the portions. There’s a really nice outdoor seating area, and it’s not too difficult to find parking during the week. Despite the busy atmosphere, service is very fast and we received our food quickly. I highly recommend the smoothies and jalapeño cheddar bagel!

Wonderful experience, amazing quality food, highly recommend. I do want to point out my experience was on a Saturday around 2pm. With that written there was not a lot of waiting time. (I could only imagine it's packed at earlier times) We order the fiesta burrito/ stack of pancakes(blueberry) side of eggs, plus another stacked of pancakes(🍓)| I order another set of pancakes since I didn't see French Toast on the menu, but once I asked if they served French Toast, I asked if I could change the order and they were responsive & kind to change it and not charge it. We also order the fresh squeezed 🍊 juice and a vanilla Expresso shake. Again the food was delicious, not greasy- home made quality. Almost forgot- the donuts are delicious.

I just paid $17 and change for a large DECAF coffee and a breakfast sandwich with egg whites, bacon and avocado…. Didn’t even get any cheese! Check out pictures. The sandwich is PA-THE-TIC!!! I had to go back to ask for a properly made sandwich and I gotta say I am still very disappointed. The first sandwich had guacamole like avocado and the second has sliced and significantly less. I make a better sandwich at home for more than half the price. Picture of second sandwich included as well. You can tell the difference. On top of the kitchen’s major L, the workers do not make the experience pleasant at all. They are rude and like to chat with each other about the drama in their lives before acknowledging customers. No “good morning”, no smiles, just “😑 what can I get you” I have lived down the street from this place for almost 15 years! Since the previous owners sold (who I loved SO MUCH!) this place has gone DOWNHILL and the prices have skyrocketed! I am sad to say I will not be going back to Rose Cafe. I’ll leave it to the tourists to continue getting ripped off. GO TO AMARITH CAFE IT IS RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET BY CHRONIC TACO!!!

Food is good and services is great but really, what really gets me and what I absolutely hate are the tables outside. I have enclosed photos. These old tables are absolutely inappropriate for food service because their surface has a design that I guess cannot be cleaned. People who work here are very diligent, and I have observed that they walk around and clean it, but look at the tables. There is food and dirt and who knows what in there because I guess they just cannot be cleaned unless they wash it with a brush every day. At any rate, I’m not an expert all I can say is that way things are the tables are extremely uncomfortable, and frankly disgusting. This place deserves better, tables with a flat surface that can be cleaned. The bathroom could be in a better shape as well. For many years I’ve been coming to this bakery at least once a week & sometimes both Saturday & Sunday but after coming into this place for three years, I stopped because I just couldn’t eat food on these dirty tables. I think they need to change the tables into something more comfortable and clean. Also, would be nice to have some decent napkins. The current ones are very cheap and ineffective. If they fix these things, I’ll go back and give five stars.

A cafe right on PCH. It’s in a great location with scenic outdoor dining, nice breakfast/lunch options, a small parking lot (essential in this location), and nice coffee according to my friend! I ordered the breakfast burrito and was very happy with it. It wasn’t as stuffed as my usual breakfast locations, but the bacon was crispy, and the flour tortilla had a nice crunch where they toasted it! The complimentary water was also cold and fresh, something I really appreciate on a hot day.

I have been dining at Rose Cafe for over ten years, and the food has always been wonderful. Unfortunately, today I had the worst service I’ve ever experienced here, which really ruined what should have been a pleasant morning. When our food was being served, we politely asked a server (an Asian lady dressed in black) if one of our French toasts was still coming. To our surprise, she raised her voice at us and insisted that the restaurant has never served French toast. I calmly explained that we’ve ordered it many times before, but she repeatedly and very rudely emphasized that in her 30 years working there, she had never seen French toast on the menu. Not even a minute later, she herself brought the French toast to our table and bizarrely said, “Wow, they actually made French toast for you,” without offering any apology. Instead, she continued to insist she had never seen it before. The entire experience left me and my family shocked and upset. I never expected to be treated this way, especially at a restaurant I’ve supported for a decade. My disappointment has nothing to do with the food—which remains delicious—but entirely with the lack of professionalism and respect in the service. After ten years of loyalty, this is the first time I’ve walked away from Rose Cafe feeling truly let down.

Used to come here since 2015. Was always nice neighborhood, homey, cozy breakfast place. They did remodel last year and now, not so cozy, loud and looks like every other coffee shop. Food & coffee is only reason I gave 3 stars 🌟. No table service, order at counter. Not homey atmosphere. And prices have DOUBLED. Don't go by menu prices on Google. They're incorrect! Sad that all the changes caused a great experience to turn into worse as going to Starbucks.

The breakfast burritos are the best in town and honestly the best around any town!! All ingredients are fresh and even if there’s a line out the door (because it’s THAT amazing) it will move quickly because their customer service is that good. This establishment truly knows good food and good service. Also don’t sleep on their donuts and muffins. They are phenomenal and not too sweet!
